Cafe Maelmin in Northumberland

Wonderful to finally find a cafe with parking and a lovely surprise to find good coffee and toasted sandwich’s which were so big we had to take away half for later! Great find!

My first advice to anyone is; try their lentil soup. OMG, best lentil soup ever. Staff were lovely and friendly.

We had a full English breakfast today and what a disappointment. It was all deep fried and greasy. The hash browns tasted of fish as if fried in same oil as fish that was served at lunch. The bacon was so salty and the sausages were deep fried and the skin so tough it was nearly impossible to cut. Mushrooms were awful on cutting into them they just oozed wet. Very, very disappointed. I was concerned when it arrived so quickly it’s impossible to cook things like that in as long as it took to poor two coffees from the coffee pot!

Lovely coffee and Freddo caramel brownie. My son had a massive pork pie, too. 1 tea, 1 coffee, 2 Freddo caramel brownies, 2 soft drinks, and a pork pie were only £15, so excellent value. We came in again last Monday and had a lovely breakfast (2 rolls with sausage and 2 rolls with bacon) plus a sausage for our dog. Still excellent value, even when one of my children chose a litre carton of orange juice 😁

A fantastic place for light snacks to full Sunday roast dinners. Gets very busy most days and I'm not sure you can reserve a table. Tea and coffee is excellent as well as scones. Well used by locals. Highly recommend.

Great veggie breakfast for £10.50. Includes fried egg barely seen in picture! Will visit again when using this road. Has gifts for sale and household essentials too. Spotted veggie sausage rolls I will try next time.

Our first visit and nothing but praise for this cafe/restaurant. We thought the food was excellent (scampi with chips & salad and quiche with chips & salad together with a pot of tea and a cold drink). All the staff were very friendly and if you are in the area and looking for a value meal then can't think of any reason to pass it by.

Stopped off en route to the union bridge. 1st visit but won't be the last if I'm up this way again. Friendly staff, very clean and well stocked. Only had a coffee and meat and potato pasty. Give it a go, I wasn't disappointed.

We stopped in here on our way back from Coldstream. Lunch was beautiful and the homemade coleslaw was delicious. Staff were lovely as well.

Never stopped here before but a great cafe and excellent service and food.. highly recommend visiting with a shop as well..

This place is also outstanding, 10 different tables, each with different matching chairs. There are two or four identical chairs at each table. Only there are oval, rectangular, round and square tables, each with two or four identical chairs. This seems messy to some people at first, but is part of the concept in the UK. and you get used to it, learn to appreciate it, that there is no boring uniformity, as is the case with us.

Another wonderful meal our favourite place to eat. Just had Sunday lunch which we thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you to the owners, staff and brilliant chef. See you again soon, this time with the dog?

Staff are all very friendly and very welcoming. Food was lovely and very generous size portions. The chips are one of the best we've ever had. It's definitely worth a drive up.

This place is great. The staff were so helpful the other week when my youngest was travel sick. I bought a snack as a tiny thank you and it was delicious as I knew from previous visits.

Wonderful stopping venue. Came across it purely by chance but glad I did. Unpreposing from outside but it cuts the mustard inside. It appears to be a jumble of ideas but in fact is sensible and structured. Takeaway and shop one end, sit down cafe at the other. Home made goodies might not please the dieticians but they taste delicious. Close to the border its the perfect place for a break 👌

This is a great place to stop off for a bite to eat & drink if you are heading up or down the A697. The food is superb from scones to full & hearty meals. The breakfasts are something else and they even cater for those funny vegan types... Something for everyone and not to be missed!

Recommend the baked potato, we also had a toasted sandwich and 2 teas! Bill came to £20!

Nice welcome and the food and coffee are great Called in there today while touring on the motorbike, ambiance, cleanliness, welcome and service first class. Large car park and FOC but partially gravelled (take car if you’re on a bike) Definitely recommend and would definitely return.

Great little cafe. Right on the roadside. Really nice food even got a Sunday dinner on a Sunday whilst travelling north to Scotland. Soups, sandwiches, toasties and milkshakes are also good. Doubles up as a little shop also with sweets, chocolate and drinks available to buy. Good amount of parking and outdoor benches for the warm sunny days.

I have been visiting maelmin cafe for several years especially when working in Scotland A nice clean cafe with nice selection of hot and cold food available at very reasonable prices. If you are passing and need a break in driving I recommend this place. Staff are great and very polite.

Visited for the first time for lunch. Received a warm, friendly welcome upon arrival. The menu had plenty to choose from and the quality of food was excellent. There was coleslaw on my meal which I don't normally like but I tried it anyway as it looked nice and WHO KNEW, It was amazing!! Made on the premises I was told. As an added bonus there was a young man serving tables who I worked with for a short time at a different company who is great, very friendly and helpful it was great to see him again. I would not hesitate to recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a quality cafe for a tasty meal. We will most certainly be back very soon. Thanks to all of the staff for a superb experience. 👌
