Best breakfast in town. Great service and very friendly. Great choice of food and drinks. Been a couple of times and it beats 90% of cafes/restaurants in Dunfermline. Would definitely recommend cafe on the cobbles Dunfermline.

Very friendly cafe which has separate gluten free menu - good options for breakfast or lunch or cake time. I had best gluten free breakfast (included Lorne sausage, haggis, black pudding, bacon, egg, gf toast) since being diagnosed with coeliac disease 5 years ago. My wife had pancakes and bacon from the main menu and said it was delicious. And prices were good. Well worth a visit if in town.

Really liked this place. Dropped in for breakfast. Very friendly, clean and comfortable. The owner/manager was a real joy to meet! Food was great as well as being really fairly priced. Try the porridge- it’s fab! Just liked everything about the place- it’s also perfectly placed for the Abbey and tourist attractions but doesn’t use this to ramp up prices. Another indie place that absolutely deserves support.

Fancied a cuppa and found Cafe Fresh was nearby. So glad we went in rather than our usual Costa. So much better with the clue in the name. Fresh. Had soup and it was superb. Huge portion of lentil and bacon with crusty bread and butter. Best plate of soup had for a long time. Friendly service adds to pleasant visit. Definitely a place to revisit. The breakfast menu looked awesome. Also very reasonable prices so you will be well catered for without breaking the bank. A real gem for Dunfermline.

Hi Folks, Was through from Leith to-day. Really Glad i found ‘Cafe Fresh’ because this is the sort of cafe we are loosing to the not so good ‘So called stylish places like Costa, Nero, etc etc. Was looking for the Old Stephens shop for a pie and coffee, ( But i see they are no longer there, I will be nice and say they where OK ‘but not perfect’ and about the best available... So…. to get back to thee Original…. I needed something nice to eat. Although it does not bother me…. I take on board from talking to single Folks of my age that It’s never Easy for some of us to go into a cafe on our own..’irrespective of our or Gender or age’ Yip that's right folks..’Many of you will identify with me’… I am not a Coffee & cake man or Gregg's or Big mac fan...Just good honest catering does me fine….and I may add with a genuine feeling that you must feel welcome in thee Establishment you choose to Eat/Dine in....………... I was after a hot filled roll to tide me over till tea time. I was not disappointed at ‘Cafe Fresh’ warm welcome as I at first hesitated to go in, and when I Did ‘From the staff at the kitchen Area’, asked and got a First class delicious Bacon roll….with spread on it... A simple act that so many caterers forget these days... I Hate dry Hot rolls...Some believe in going all Gordon Ramsey on me and just dip the roll on the hot plate some thing I will never really understand cos it achieves Nothing apart from a burn on a dry roll... So because he does this and recommends this form of cooking in between changing his Lamborghinis I am much happier with butter or spread on our good old fashioned morning rolls….All be it a certain tongue in cheek in my comment this is the way forward for a Good community Cafe which I will always visit when I am in Dunfermline....

Fancied a coffee, so dropped in to Fresh at the Kirkgate. Small cafe, with seating indoors and also outside al fresco. Very clean, Two pleasant ladies serving. They had a good selection of cakes, both individual and on cake stands waiting to be portioned. I am advised, they are home made and also some sourced from a local baker. Also, a lovely selection of fillings for sandwiches, baked potatoes being made as we visited, including a very fine mixed salad. They all looked fresh as a dew kissed daisy. Will return again to eat here again and only negative was that it got quite warm indoors. It is a small premises and with the ovens going, plus it was a warm day...... That said, an ideal venue for a cool day. All in all it was a great little place and the prices were very reasonable.

Being in town early my wife and i stopped in for a roll with square sausage. The sausage was thin and dry, not freshly cooked, and not of any quality. The roll while fresh, was twice the size of the sausage which was lost inside it.The manager joked about this fact but it meant my wife had to pull chunks of bread from the bun before getting close to eating any meat. These things aren't difficult to do well, and with so many cafes in Dunfermline I wonder how places can risk not trying to be the best around? You only get one chance at a first impression after all.

As someone who visits Cafe Fresh on a weekly basis where possible, I felt compelled to write a review after reading the comments from Yvonne K. The lunches served at Cafe Fresh are second to none and are all the more enjoyable as they are made on the premises. The salads are crisp and fresh and the best in town and the baked potatoes are delicious. Although not a huge cake fan, the odd time I've been tempted, I've thoroughly enjoyed the home baking (malteser cake in particular springs to mind!). The staff are all very friendly and the cafe has a great atmosphere, which is why my friend and I keep returning. The premises are clean and tidy and quite often it is impossible to get a seat because it is so busy. This café is excellent value for money and definitely one of the best in Dunfermline town centre!

Ordered the Pea & Ham Soup and a Goats Cheese & Roasted Vegetable panini. Wife had the same but went for the Black Pudding and Apple panini. The two staff were helpful and friendly, food came in good time and was tasty, well presented. Was tempted to follow with a coffee and one of the tempting cakes on display downstairs but resisted. Popped in for a couple of breakfast rolls, staff were friendly and welcoming. Plenty tables free when we visited, maybe because it is a little bit out of the way at the bottom of the town centre towards the historic quarter. Ordered quickly, had sausage on a roll. Not premium sausages but we’re well cooked and freshly made on a nice soft roll. Young waiter was a bit uncertain and could have asked us if we wanted sauce or at least pointed us in the right direction. He also somehow brought me coffee instead of tea. Not drank coffee for years but accepted it anyway just for a change, and it did taste nice once I’d adjusted to the bitterness. 2 rolls and a couple of drinks for around £7 seemed about average and was decent value for what we had.

On my final visit they served my partner a lacklustre lasagne and I ended up with a bowl of soup that I didn't eat because it wasn't enjoyable. I mentioned this to the staff as we were paying and they told me that they thought their soup was good. The other issue is that Cafe Fresh has very poor ventilation so you'll end up boiling hot.

Saw others eating and looked good.Has a license so you can get a drop of vino, bottle of beer or cider as well if you fancy, the salads all looked fresh and we watched them cutting it up.Live music pprently as well. Very pleasant visit and will go back.

Visiting home from Melbourne can prove to be a challenge on the coffee front. These guys at Cafe Fresh have got it right though. Great customer service & great banter!

This is a fantastic wee gem of a place tucked into a side street but it is no greasy spoon cafe this is a Michelin star cafe or it would if I could give it one. The food was fantastic the place is full of character the staff are friendly and polite . The range of food on offer is amazing for such a small place. I would highly recommend trying this wonderful gem of a place out you won't be disappointed.

I frequent here often - at times with my kids. The staff always make me and my girls welcome - even while breastfeeding my youngest. It is a child friendly cafe with things to amuse little ones while waiting . Their menu is really good with a variety of different foods you don't get in others in the area, prepared and cooked by the staff with the shops own recipes. Highly recommend for a nice quiet stop off the high street for excellent food and service from Megan, Erin and Jon.

I visit this cafe on a regular basis and find the food, coffee, cakes and staff all outstanding. Great quality and value for money and with friendly staff means I will keep coming here! I have read a couple of negative reviews of Fresh and can only conclude that these reviewers were having a bad day. Keep up the good work guys.

We were in town for the first time in a few years Iwas born near here and knew it from my younger years so did not remember places to eat We came across this café on our walkabout. So ready for a snack we went in .A very warm welcome from the staff behind the counter and the young lady who advised there were more seats upstairs We were lucky to get a seat on a very comfortable couch the other chairs did not look very comfortable. The young lady advised us on the specials and said she would come back shortly to take our order Which she did My wife choose mozzeralla and roasted peppers on Granary bread When it came in a very short time with a little fresh salad it was polished off and remarked it was fresh and very tasty I had black pudding and apple chutney on Pannina.being a serious lover of black pudding this was the tops it was also served with salad.Coffee was hot and tasty. There was a good looking selection of cakes and several people were obviously enjoying there lunch

Was disappointed, have not been back since. Leave knitting needles and wool within children's reach then tell children off for playing with it. Food is average and not as child friendly as they make out

Come here regularly; great location between the Glen and the high St, really friendly staff/manager. Specials are excellent and well varied, very good coffee, and reasonably priced. Only downside would be lack of seating.

I decided to return to cafe fresh as I had been in the day before and had really enjoyed their coffee.I asked for a soup to take away as it came highly recommended by a work colleague who frequents the cafe most days.I noticed after I had ordered that the lady behind the counter was looking at me as if I had made a terrible smell or as if I had somehow offended a close relative.I asked if it was ok if I paid by card and soon realised that was why I was receiving such a disgusted look. She then preceded to explain that every card transaction cost her 40p and asked if I had any cash. As this was quite a small transaction her loss on my purchase wouldn't in isolation be a problem, but if everyone had the nerve to pay by card it clearly would.Any reasonable person could acceptthis and would of course on any normal occasion endeavour to pay by cash.If she had explained any of this in a reasonable way or had even adjusted her tone to feign a pleasant demeanour I would have had no issue. However, I feel that her discourtesy was a total over reaction. I have never encountered such bad behaviour from anyone that worked in the service industry let alone someone who was certainly old enough to know better. My disclaimer is that I have never felt compelled to complain anywhere. Most poor service can be happily forgiven if you are willing to treat customers with a small degree of respect. Manners cost very little and sadly I would not return here again as they clearly have little or no respect for their customers. Which is baffling considering how small and competitive this sector is in Dunfermline. My final note is that the veg and lentil soup wasn't very good and certainly wasn't worth all the unpleasantness.

This small cafe near the Abbey served the best coffee I have had in the month I have been in Scotland. Didn't have the opportunity to taste their food but it looked really good and other patrons certainly looked to be enjoying it. Very nice spotless bathroom too.

Small café but very friendly, with a good menu and some of the nicest cakes around locally. Can be busy but has comfortable sofa seating upstairs. Outside seating unwelcoming due to inebriated pub users hanging around next door. Overall a perfect little café if able to sit indoors, but our dog often makes this not possible so we have to give it a miss.

We arrived in Dunfermline looking for good coffee and a light snack! Walking from the abbey up the hill came across illys coffee- Café Fresh. As we both enjoy illys coffee it was a no brainer. Service ok, the café windows were steamed up with moisture, upstairs very dated and no atmosphere what so ever. Coffee and orange cake arrived, both were extremely disappointingly awful, coffee bitter, weak and tasteless the cake was dry and not appealing at all. We left having eaten one bit out of the cake and coffee half drunk. We will not go back!

3 of us went in here for a cuppa and chat this morning. Very comfortable atmosphere, nothing seemed too much trouble and its a nice place to spend a dreich morning. If I was being really picky the hot rolls took a little longer than I would have liked, but we were upstairs, so possibly they were really busy downstairs. A couple more comfy chairs would be nice - two on a sofa and the other on a harder, higher seat was a little difficult for us. The two staff were really helpful and service was excellent. We'll be back.

A bit of the beaten track but worth it. If this café was in the city centre, it would be packed out every day! We enjoyed lovely, freshly made sandwiches in a cosy atmosphere and took some delicious cakes home. I hadn’t been for a while but it’s every bit as nice as I remember, we’ll definitely be back.

We didn't stay but went for lunch one Sunday. We booked but several groups turned up without booking and were able to get a table. The menu is the usual pub grub but nicely presented and service was quick. Ae chose the roast beef, meatball and curry with icecream and coffee to follow. All very tasty The welcome and service were frienly and efficient and the dining room light airy and spacious.

What a disappointment. I found the Bothy at Boglily on TA, loved the look of the place, the gorgeous photos of cooked food on their site and the good reviews. We are doing a road trip and this was going to be our Sunday morning treat. The car park was jammed with cars and we saw people standing in a queue to pet baby goats. Upon entering the inviting Bothy and asking a young man for a table, we were told that we couldn’t bring our dog in. Fair enough. Not every dining establishment is dog-friendly. Though I was a bit surprised as the restaurant is in a buffalo farm, there’s a petting zoo and it’s in the countryside. The sun was shining so I asked if we could order our meal and sit at the table on the deck, directly next to the door of The Bothy (see photo for proximity). The young man’s response was that they don’t offer takeaway. I queried whether a table one step from the door qualified as takeaway. It reminded me of the TV ad with the man trying to buy potatoes at a farm shop and being told that he can only pay with digital currency. People taking themselves so seriously that they don’t think of the customer experience. We had driven up from our holiday cottage at Kinghorn especially to get a nice cooked breakfast from their lovely menu, so my surprise and disappointment were apparent. I was directed to the outdoor kiosk they call the Milk Bar to order something from their limited selection. We ordered one Double Cheese Toastie with fries, a latte, an affogato milkshake ( made with buffalo milk ice cream) and a scone, which was on their menu. The two lovely servers told me that they don’t sell scones outside and I would have to go to the Bothy Café to get one. When I explained that I had been told up there that I couldn’t get anything from them takeaway, the young woman offered to go get one for me. They were both very sweet and I apologised for my previous grumpiness. Unfortunately, it wasn’t worth the trouble. The cheese toastie and fries were served in a cardboard tray. The toastie was on “cheap white bread” according to my partner. I didn’t taste it. The fries and the milkshake however, were excellent. My scone was dry, cold and crumbled into breadcrumb texture when I tried to spread some butter on it. The crumb was impossible to pick up and eat but my dog liked it. It wasn’t worth eating for me as it then began to rain and we had to head for the car. I can’t help but think that the very cheerful, welcoming and upmarket website promises more than it delivers.
