We have been to this café a couple of times. We have also been to other restaurants in the area for breakfast and have found this the best of them. Great service and very good food. We will only go to this café for breakfast. We do not go out at night so we can not give a rating for other menus, but if the quality of the breakfast is a mark than we would definitely recommend this for visitors to the Montpellier area of Cheltenham.

We live nearby and walk past frequently, and always receive a hello from the friendly owners. We have eaten there many times and it is consistently good, fresh food. The scones are delicious and the cakes are heavenly! Especially the cheesecake, which I normally don't like. But theirs is not too sweet and he makes really yummy flavors (try the orange, with a dollop of clotted cream...amazing!). We usually go for brunch or lunch, and the food is homey in the best way, and a good value for the price. My husband likes their omelets and I often enjoy one of their several flavors of quiche. When we started coming with our young daughter, they bought highchairs to accommodate even the youngest guests. It's a true neighborhood cafe, with a devoted following of regulars.

Quizás mejor ir a otro establecimiento.

Following a last minute change of plan and having carried out some local research on afternoon tea offers at various establishments in Cheltenham, we decided to opt for tea for two at the Cafe del Art which is modestly priced at £20 (yes, that's for two people). We were well-rewarded with an ample quantity of fresh sandwiches (we selected the fillings from options on the menu), the freshest of scones with smooth Cornish clotted cream plus jam and a garnish of tasty strawberries and finally a cake of our choice. This was all accompanied by a pot of tea - again various options on the menu - but we also splashed out on a Prosecco, grenadine and pink lemonade cocktail which was delicious. We spent ages over this meal, savouring the background live piano accompaniment and asking for numerous top-ups of hot water. This is a family-run business and everyone was very friendly and helpful.

We have eaten here a few times now when visiting our daughter. My wife is coeliac and the gluten free options are brilliant. We have had main meals and the specials are particularly good. From the menu the souvlaki and was light and tasty and we have had numerous cakes on coffee visits. The orange cheesecake and the lemon meringue are superb and gluten free too! It has a European rather than an English feel but that adds to its appeal. We have found the staff very personable if a little laconic but they have always been nice and helpful. The young waitress makes a real effort. The owners just seem very busy as they work hard. Good luck to them in running a cafe/restaurant with a difference of which Cheltenham can be proud. If I could have done so I'd have scored this restaurant no stars at all. It looks lovely but there was only one member of staff there and he was what I can only describe as extremely rude. Perhaps that's why my two friends and I were the only people there! The sole reason we stayed was because one of us needed to use the 'rest room' and we were told it was for customers only. We thus felt obliged to buy something! I asked for a bottle of still water only to be told they didn't have any - only sparkling! We all ended up with diet coke which we quickly drank, paid for and left. We all wished we'd just walked out regardless of using their facilities!! We definitely won't be recommending anyone to frequent this restaurant and will not be going to it again ourselves!

We were in the area after spending a fantastic night and meal at Mal Maison looking for some refreshment and a bite to eat the following day for lunch. We came across this lovely place which did not look very busy but showed plenty of promise! Everyone polite. While we were there we chatted with a local who spoke very highly of the cafe but said it had recently received an unfair review. With this in mind, my partner and I made extra effort to not to find trivial fault as we appreciate small businesses in this industry are very much under pressure. We ordered a piece of their home-made quiche and a simple ham and cheese panini. The quiche came after about 40 minutes and 10 minutes later we were still waiting for the panini! After prompting the waiter the panini arrived 10 minutes later with a very quiet apology, indicating a problem with the grill? The order had obviously been forgotten. Meanwhile there was a family with children (that sat on adjacent table) who arrived at the cafe well after we ordered and got served a cooked meal fifteen minutes before we even got served! We are not people who criticize easily, but serving customers in this fashion will not win many fans. Otherwise the food was pleasant enough.

My partner and I have visited this pleasant cafe several times, sometimes just for coffee and cake (both excellent and cakes is gluten free) and other times I have had lunch with girl friends. However, I booked a table for 5 of us yesterday lunchtime for a special family reunion. Unfortunately, the arrival of all our meals was spread out over about 15 minutes, so by the time the last meal arrived, I had almost finished mine, (and I was eating slowly deliberately) which came out first. One of our party sent back her dish as she said the tomatoes sauce just tasted like a tube of tomato purree, heated up. Her replacement pasta dish was satisfactory. My own meal was delicious and I will certainly be returning.

There were so many other tempting items though - stroganoff, pastas, schnitzel, risottos. The desserts were to die for, with a selection of hand made tarts, gateaux and cakes. We had a slice of dark chocolate tart and toffee cheesecake, which perfectly rounded off our meal. Cafe del Art never seems to be that busy, and on a lovely summer's evening, we were one of only 3 couples, but I really hope word spreads as it's most definitely one of the beat meals we've had in Cheltenham, and we can't wait to return.

But my tuna salad on quinoa was utterly delicious - tomatoes gherkins delicately dressed leaves. Quite first rate food with friendly, helpful East European staff who I trust are completely welcome in Cheltenham, an area which voted Remain; a fact which made the visit to the town even more enjoyable. Barry had found Cafe del Art in search of gluten free cakes, which are superb. But it is much more than that as an easy lunch with just the one bottle between four amply demonstrated. The restaurant was laid out with white table cloths and candles. A lovely inviting atmosphere. The menu was so different to the other foodie places in Montpelier. We ordered a bottle of prosecco and at £16 a bottle seemed good value, especially as the place we had just walked out of charged £25!!! A lovely touch was having strawberries in the glasses. Also a jug of tap water with ice and lemon. I had prawn cocktail. Lots of prawns and a spicy seafood sauce. My husband had herring fillets that came with a glass of Polish vodka, all of which was very tasty. We both had Vienna schnitzel, which is flattened pork in breadcrumbs and spicy potato wedges and veg. All home made and delicious. For dessert there was a section of different caky things. Again, homemade. I asked if I could have 2 small slices of two different things as I couldnt decide. No problem! I had apricot frangipane tart and dark chocolate tart with clotted cream. They were absolutely delicious. My husband had a peanut butter caramel cheesecake with icecream, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Then a good hot fresh coffee and a liquor. I took a bit of a risk booking an evening table for 12 having only had a small lunch here one day. Agnes offered to make it a private event and we weren't disappointed. Food and service was brilliant! Ordered herrings (bit unusual) and they were wonderful. Be careful of the vodka - it can take you by surprise!

Been here twice and both times the food has been fab, service as quick as you can expect for dishes made fresh and the people in there very friendly (even being helpful in giving me advice on gluten free baking as I'm new to that) food is lovely, large portions, in a nice part of cheltenham and not overpriced so nothing to dislike!

I've eaten lunch here twice now, having heard rave reviews from friends previously. The first time I visited (a few months ago) I ordered a risotto dish which I chose primarily because so many of the menu choices contained cheese (which I don't like) and as the list of ingredients didn't mention it, I thought it would be fine. Unfortunately, it did have cheese in it and the staff were helpful in replacing it with a pasta dish without cheese but it didn't taste of anything very much. I thought that maybe that was a one-off misfortune so I returned more recently with a different friend and I ordered what sounded like a lovely maple-flavoured salmon dish served with a pea and dill risotto (which I obviously checked first that there was no cheese in!!). The salmon tasted pleasant enough but was slightly dry (overcooked) and the risotto was made with basmati rice, not carnaroli or arborio rice, which meant that it wasn't creamy and slightly liquid, but very dry. I've never been served risotto with the wrong rice before! It was served with salad which comprised a few green leaves - very boring. My friend ordered a quiche and left some of it, saying it was a bit heavy and not very tasty. We didn't order dessert. In sum, the food was ok, edible and the cafe itself is very pretty but I shan't be going back again. I genuinely don't know what others have raved about - maybe we ordered the wrong dishes?

We stopped in here for a latish lunch today - it proved to be a very good choice. We both had pasta dishes - my puttanesca was especially tasty. We were warned that their food is all made fresh and so it would be 12-15 minutes - it was well worth the wait and we will definitely be back.Oh and in case you're wondering why only 4 stars - the olives & bread starter was nothing special and something of a letdown.

This is a must place. Very good food. Probably the best food I have eaten outside my mother's food .I am so pleased Everything is clean, everything is relaxed, they treated me perfectedly.Incidendly the Hungarian goulash is fab and the herring is so good.Price for goulash £7 and the same for herring. Glass of wine and starter a few quid and I can make this a local eating house, they have time for you.Lastly the goulash is the best food I've had in any restaurant ! And I mean that ! It's a pleasure to write this report.(I'm still eating my meal it's that good ! )

On our arrival we were ushered into seats, and asked repeatedly what we wanted before being given menus. The service was quite brisk, without the welcoming atmosphere the pretty little cafe looked to have.On the menu my bagel was listed as £5, however at the checkout I was charged £7.50. A ridiculously high price for a bagel.Although the food was nice and the cafe pretty, the service was VERY poor and I don't think we'll return.

The only thing I really miss now I'm coeliac is having the ability to choose a treat from a selection to have with a coffee on the weekend. Not only does this little cafe give you a choice of yummy cakes but there's a great selection of lunches and dinners too. So glad we found it! We will be back!

We were looking for a late lunch on a Friday and came upon this place unexpectedly with no great expectations - how wrong we were. The welcome from the Polish owner was warm, knowledgeable and not pushy and the light lunch we had - excellent Polish beer - was filling and tasty. They are open for two evenings for dinner, and if we hadn't had a reservation somewhere else would have gladly returned for dinner - the menu looked good and hearty for a cold winters day.

There is a good variety of food and superb cakes!. The family who run it are always friendly and professional. If the weather is fine there is a lovely quiet area outside to sit. Highly recommended.

The opening times I believe are 9am to 9pm Saturday's, but when we walked up to the cafe at 2ish, a rather surly looking chap came up and said we're closed, and practically shut the door in our face! We won't bother to go back if that's their idea of customer service.

We went here everyday for breakfast as we never take breakfast in the hotel as we live to support and sample the local business 's and enjoy the slow relaxing pace of the locals at breakfast. Lovely people who own it and on the 3rd day of our visit even reserved our little corner table. Breakfasts are excellent with good quality product and huge portions. I ordered an egg sandwich the first day and got 3 eggs in it!!! Also great coffee and a lovely partisan type theme alto they do lots of different European food. Easy to find on Montpellier Street in the Montpellier courtyard in the corner on the ground level. V reasonable prices and very obliging owners offering great service.

Came here for late breakfast/lunch during the literary festival. We called ahead, expecting it might be busy, but the staff were happy to set aside a table for four at only 30 minutes notice. While we narrowly missed the breakfast menu (which ceases at 12 noon, and had in fact finished at 11:45am on that day), there was an abundance of choice for lunch, ranging from light bites through to hearty meals.I had an omelette, while my companions chose the Hungarian goulash, the kipper salad sandwich, and the smoked haddock & mash special. We all very much enjoyed our food, of which the quality and quantity was substantial. The prices were fair, and the coffee was also very good.Shame that the weather wasn't a little nicer, as there is a charming outdoor arcade and plenty of seating outside the cafe. The inside was cosy and even had a little table of books and games to be enjoyed by those seeking a quiet spot to relax.Would strongly recommend this venue for a decent sized and quality lunch.

Excellent coffee and cake and afternoon tea with fresh scones.Lunch is a delight with good soup or sandwiches but the bigger more expensive lunches are superb. I had an absolutely amazing experience, found this little gem with my friend on a busy Saturday afternoon. The family was lovely and I could see how much effort was being put into every little bit of it. The food (chorizo and carbonara) were amazing the portions were generous and I was over the moon with the subline service and singing from the waitress! If only I didn't live so far away I would go back tomorrow!

Yet again another lovely evening dining al fresco at Cafe Del Art. I can think of nowhere better to enjoy the last of the warm evenings. The food was wonderful.. Lovely Husband's strogonoff was superb... proper "home cooked" and a huge plate and you would never have known it was gluten free. My chicken skewer was simply delicious. The Polish beers went down beautifully and the gluten free coffee and walnut cake that we brought home with us was amazing. The peaceful Montpellier Courtyard; the gentle strains of Edith Piaf and the feeling of being back in Budapest or dining in Lake Como .... I can't think of a better way to start the weekend. I really can't recommend this place highly enough. An absolute essential if you find yourself looking for somewhere to dine in the centre of Cheltenham but .. but.. shhhh... don't tell everyone... let's keep it a secret....

parked the car on the road and was heading down to the other courtyard cafes but saw this little place out of he corner of my eye. I love the vintage European cafe look so we sat down . The owner is a bit stiff but I think that's just his way . We ordered two lovely plates of sandwiches with drinks , genuinely nice simple food with a twist , I have to say the open avacado and kipper sandwich was lovely . I glimpsed the cakes through the window and the owner pointed out that he made them himself , they all looked fabulous my wife and I went for carrot and I had the blackberry meringue, 5* cake. I would say very reasonably priced throughout, great setting and we will be back for an early evening meal shortly . I did read some of the other low marked reviews on this place before I wrote this and I have to say I am surprised it was not my experience. keep it up I love the fact your independent and care about your food .

This little out of the way cafe serves home made polish food with amazing flavours and has plenty of veggie/gluten free options so good all rounder. I have been twice now, had the goulash soup first time with sourdough bread. Filled me up and tasty tasty tasty.... :-) Second time round I went for an omelette with salad, You get to choose three of the fillings as you like and , although simple, this was cooked to perfection and washed down with a lovely glass of white wine. We'll be back to try the cakes (all homemade) real soon

E a volte qualche piatto italiano, come risotti o prosciutto e melone. La scelta alcolica abbonda. Il locale giusto per mangiare bene in relax con poca spesa

Really good venue both for drinks in the evening, and for brunch. The brunch is a bit more pricey than some places in Cheltenham, but worth it I think and on a par with some of the other nicer venues. Staff are always friendly and the food is excellent. Recommended to others already.
