Cafe Cotton in Manchester

Waited around to be seated, and then waited 35/40 minutes for our food. Food honestly wasn’t good - I got the pork skillet and it was fairly dry, hot in some Places and lukewarm in others, the eggs were rock solid, and the avocado/pickled onions stated on the menu were buried under everything else which made them super hot and somehow kind of dry (I’m not sure how that’s even possible with avocado). The avocado and the eggs are kind of meant to be the smooth and creamy parts of the dish but they weren’t which was pretty disappointing. Paired with the wait we just wouldn’t return. My partner got a breakfast and the eggs were even rock hard on that. Drinks were nice, and staff seemed nice but there was no real attentiveness.

First visit, sat down and ordered two drinks of hot chocolate, really delicious 😋 reasonably priced just over £7.50 for two. A good selection of food and drinks, can sit inside and out. The cafe is part of the Halle St Peters and was ideal while we were waiting to go into the concert. Will definitely return.

Superb in every way, this is my new go to for breakfast/brunch in the area. Food was incredible, very much looking forward to making my way through the menu

Great brunch menu & coffee, both the eggs Benedict & steak options were delicious and fresh. Eggs cooked to perfection! Staff were friendly and attentive. Interior is nice and clean. Cakes/sandwiches looked amazing too, will hopefully be back to try. Slightly pricier for what it is but nothing out of the ordinary for city centre.

Sensational food and coffee what a place. shame some of the staff in there are quite rude had to re-evaluate my original review. To be specific I was there 14th March at 2pm was wearing a Manchester United shirt. I come here quite a bit. But this might be the last time. Thanks Cotton fir everything prior to this encounter you were great train your staff to be more respectful and treat everyone the same. Also fyi I'm diagnosed adhd but the staff didn't ruin my day just says a lot about they're attitude 😣

Nice venue and reasonable food but badly let down by terrible and beyond rude service. Food sat on hot plates for over 10 minutes. Nobody checked and asked us if everything was ok. After finishing our plates and cups we’re left on the table for over 20 minutes whilst 4 staff all stood around taking. (Only two other tables were occupied at this time) Given the high prices the service and experience certainly doesn’t justify that all. I’d avoid. There are far nicer and more pleasant places to visit nearby.

Outstanding cafe with fabulous selection of food. Clean and good and attentive service if sitting . Was constantly busy on the takeaways too . Ended with a scrummy piece of banana and chocolate cake . Recommend

My experience is for take away section only. I recently visited Café Cotton for 4 different orders for my company employees. Unfortunately, my experience this time was far from pleasant. The staff member handling my order was impatient, which was disheartening. I needed to pay using different cards for multiple orders, but her behaviour added unnecessary stress to the process. I frequently order Meal Deal 3, which includes a sandwich, tea or coffee, and dessert. I usually switch the tea or coffee for hot chocolate, paying an extra 60p, making it £8.60 instead of £8. However, the staff member insisted on typing it in as Meal Deal 2 and could not understand my request. Her sassy remark, "Are you sure about this now? I have taken your order 5 times till now," was not only unnecessary but also made me feel as though I was holding up the line, which was not the case. I have been to café cotton numerous times and have made this change as well. I have always had good experiences at Café Cotton in the past. This particular interaction has put me off from returning anytime soon and now the café will always be connected to this experience. This interaction made me feel embarrassed because this happened in front of a lot of people along with another of my company employee, and is the only reason why I had to write a review and gave service 2 stars. It has always been 5 stars in the past.

Food: The food was great and the portion sizes were good (something that is said increasingly rarely nowadays!). The coffee was nice and they had a range of milk types available. Only improvement is that the coffee could have been slightly hotter. Service: We were seated instantly and served very quickly, in a friendly manner. Staff seemed welcoming and happy to chat with customers. Atmosphere: The decor is nice and the location is great too. Price: The prices are quite reasonable given the location and quality of the food.

Gets far too busy at lunchtime, all the focaccia sandwiches were taken by the time I got up to the queue, so I decided to go for the Caesar salad wrap - don’t get it. The chicken was incredibly tough and the wrap had barely any flavour to it. I would love to try the focaccia sandwiches in the future.

Staff super helpful and lovely, super understanding and careful about my food allergies! The food was good but the team was exceptional :)

I would recommend the iced coffee and smoothies! However, the food did disappoint. My friend ordered a Greek salad and they forgot to add feta so ended up with a bowl of vegetables :( Also was unfortunately very disappointed with the iced mocha and the matcha. They also got confused between the dairy and non-dairy coffees

Nice place to have a coffee with selections of matcha latte and turmeric latte. Nice for breakfast and brunch with an area which feels useful to read a book and enjoy time. Service is good and friendly staff. Food wise is ok, with brownies maybe too sweet and banana loaf with more chocolate chips then banana. However overall it gives a nice experience and definitely a good coffee 😊

I have to say, it is one of the best cafes here. The design of it is so relaxing and quiet, great for studying or working. I had a delicious flat white , I also saw a lot of pastries that looked yummy.

We absolutely loved our visit here. The sun was shining so we sat outside. There was a makers market on in the square in front of the cafe, with a guy playing the saxophone. What a perfect setting. The service was prompt and our food that followed was delicious. We would definitely return.

The staff were not so welcoming (though would like to make clear, the man at the front desk was lovely) and definitely felt like we were rushed to leave&. They insited it was table service when we got up to order but took a long time to get to us. *The cafe had lots of free tables so we were not keeping new business.

Bad service. The girl with the glasses from the FOH team appeared remarkably inexperienced - rude, patronising and does not know how to deal with customers (also overheard how she spoke with other customers too), don't know if she was having a bad day but that doesn't mean you take it out on customers. Food and drinks were good, just such a shame with the service that day.

Great choice for a quick lunch time fix. Always happy to come back.

Nice place to have a coffee. They have a variety of coffees and smoothies. Also very baby friendly as they have baby high chairs and a ramp to get to the cafe.

The food is lovely, but it's let down by music being played a bit too loud for a quiet lunch. As well as this, although staff are attentive when taking orders, we were a bit let down by the lack of customer service throughout, i.e. Didn't ask if the food was OK, didn't ask if we wanted more drinks, waited about 20 minutes before our plates were collected, continued chatting to each other as we left, even when we said "thank you, bye". It might sound like nit-picking, but it's the bare minimum for a place charging £5+ for beer out of a bottle.

Great place for a coffee in a friendly relaxed atmosphere. The owner is a nice guy and very professional. He even offered to take a picture of all of my family when I was taking a picture with my mum and wife. Thank you.

Intertwined with the beautiful Hallé St. Peters Church, Cotton Café is aesthetically pleasing, comfortable and very chilled. Great selection of breakfasts/lunchtime snadwiches available with friendly service provided by attentive staff. Child friendly and great with dogs. Best keep secret in Ancoats. AJ

We came in wanting a takeaway coffee on Sunday, the 26th, the lady making a coffee for someone else in front of us fair enough. After she made the coffee for the bloke in front of us , she started making another coffee, no acknowledgement of our existence and politeness what so ever. So we simply left. 3 x staff standing around the till doing nothing. We went to another coffee shi (TROVE) that does acknowledge our existence and that a polite to their customers. Gone down hill. 😓😓😓

I used to love this place. The food is great and the service was friendly. However the last few times I've been the staff have been rude to say the least. They ignore customers and don't apologise when they keep you waiting. I appreciate they can get busy, but that is no excuse for poor service. It is a shame as it was my favourite breakfast spot until recently.

We regularly come to Cafe Cotton for breakfast and lunch, the food is always lovely and the staff are amazing!

They can’t poach an egg - received hard boiled and rock hard toast … I complained and was given the grand total of £0.80 off my bill 🤣… I’d give zero stars if I could for the insult … toast rock hard , chipped a back tooth … management are RUDE and snooty . Used to be a decent place to go … would NOT recommend

Consistently great food! Our office goes here regularly for lunch and the food is always great quality! I highly recommend the cauliflower Malaysian wrap, the Saltimbocca sandwich and the soup(s)!

Always our go to place in Manchester, whether it's breakfast or lunch you guys consistantly provide a fabulous eating experience. All the food is freshly prepared using local produce and always served with a smile. 5 star guys, give the team a pat on the back, they deserve it. Love that its dog friendly too 🐕🌟

Chilled and relaxed vibe with lovely staff, delicious food and a great venue.

Only went for a one star as there wasn’t the option for no stars.. We went at 1.30 in the afternoon and was told most of the sandwiches were sold out. We opted for coronation chicken, it was like a piece of KFC on 2 pieces of plain white bread (no butter), very dry and overcooked. Bits of mango and other unknown ingredients, slimy cucumber, with 4 Doritos on the side, we ordered two glasses of wine (250 ml). When the drinks came they were very very small wines, we queried this and the girl said yes they are right. Not having this at all we asked another member of staff who agreed with us they were the 125mls, and they were topped up. Total cost was almost 38.00, sorry but cannot recommend this place at all. Although the staff were friendly.

The salad is good - but I’m extremely unhappy with this tiny blob of hummus that I paid an extra £2.80 for. All the toppings should not be the same price.

For fear of sounding like a jaded ex-employee this is without a doubt the worst place I’ve worked. Sweatshop doesn’t begin to cover it. Management is a joke who fire staff at will and do not give employment contracts to cover themselves. In my three weeks there five people were dismissed unfairly. I’ve been in the industry a while to know where to avoid.

Food was delicious but service was slow and we were incorrectly advised there was no food on that evening as we saw they were selling sandwiches and cakes and managed to order from the same person who said there was no food on.

This place is always very empty compared to other places in the area and I can see why. The coffee and food are really nice here but it’s just a shame that they do not consider the experience of the customer. It has the feeling of a cafe/cafeteria but if you try to order from the counter you are told this must be takeaway and you can’t sit at a table to drink/eat. You must take a menu and order at the table like a restaurant… but then you have to pay instantly as soon as food is delivered. Oh yeah and you pay more for the items if you sit at a table. So I get it places charge more for sit down service but I feel they would fill more tables if they had a more relaxed attitude to the casual customer who just wants to get a takeaway coffee and not have to commit to getting table service.

This is the home to the best sandwiches you will get in Manchester! I’ve been several times since we moved to the area and I love this places. The sandwiches are huge and packed full of flavor, plenty to choose from and we discovered only on our last visit lots of little sides you can add on Lots of drink options and they also do a great breakfast menu Service is great, all of the staff are friendly and welcoming Recommendation is the Giant prawn Po Boy and the halloumi fries

Went here for the first time one morning for a pot of tea and a cappuccino. The owner? came out and said there will be a wait as we're very busy, my girls will be over soon. Seemed an arrogant sort. The waitresses were young and seemed stressed. Tea and coffee were brought..Earl Grey was worst I've ever had..cappuccino was lukewarm. No spoons or sugar was brought. Not a nice atmosphere or experience. Won't be returning.

Delicious food! Compliments to the chef. 👍🏻 Unfortunately the general user experience leaves a lot to be desired. The server asking for payment as we ordered the food to eat in, before we have even eaten, felt very tacky - as though the café thought we were going to dine and dash. It was impossible to have a carafe of water brought to the table also - we kept having to go inside and get tap water ourselves. The servers were lovely people but there was a distinct lack of comms between them - drink orders had to be made multiple times - and there were ingredients left out - and the drinks were also forgotten about or not passed on to the relevant staff. All in all, would not recommend. There are other places with delcious food that have better value for money and a much better user experience.

This place has so much potential but unfortunately failed by the staff and sometimes quality of food. My rare roast sandwich had so much mustard in there I could barely eat it! Staff also forgot to give sauce alongside halloumi fries - this has now happened more than once. Sometimes the staff just do not want to help serve their customers.

Great quick lunch spot! Always full of really fresh and delicious sandwiches and salads. The sandwiches can be heated up to go. There are plenty of seats to eat in. Plenty of staff on hand so service is quick with a smile and the prices are affordable too. The tuna melt is delicious as well as the focaccia sandwiches.

Came in and asked for an iced Americano, got the most watery absolutely horrendous drink. I mean if you only put a doubled-shot of espresso in your americano, at least don’t put so much water! Absolutely disgusting.

Our family members recommended this lovely cafe. We came on the market day- busy but good service. The staff were helpful. Enjoyed our brunch with the family. Would come again.

My salad was very underwhelming and over priced

Nice place for a coffe and cake, and to work. Love the vegan cake options. But the staff really needs health and safety training! A person with long blond hair was handling food behind the counter and their hair was to the front, hanging over the food! A lot of rings also.

I went in the morning and and head toast and coffee was so nice and carrot cake !

Once again excellent service, tasty selection of food and nice atmosphere. Came in with my wife for a late breakfast treat, recommend the breakfast wrap.

Came here for lunch with a friend and it was a really lovely experience. We were tucked away in the cafe corner which was a great place for us to do some studying. The coffees were amazing and our waitress Katie was really friendly and attentive making sure we were happy all day. Will definitely be back soon!!

The coffee place said it closed at 6pm and they made us leave at 4 pm! They started to turn the lights off. I ordered another latte just to stay more, and they made me drink it fast to leave. Also, the waitress don’t stop pressuring you to order more and want to take everything so fast. The latte was first made wrong, but it still tasted ordinary. The only good thing about the place was the playlist. Honestly, I was just dissatisfied. Won’t return again! This comment is from my friend and I.

My favourite place for lunch! So far I've had the ham and cheese baguette, sausage with caramelised onions and cheese baguette, Spanish melt - a chicken, chorizo and cheese baguette as well as the Po Boy - Cajun fried prawns, with a lightly spiced mayo and slaw in a brioche baguette. All these sandwiches warm are the most £6.50 which is think is value for money. They make a great coffee or matcha but it can take awhile sometimes, but there's a click and collect option when you're in a rush.

Food as expected, nothing special. Atmosphere basic and music slightly loud. On the plus side, seating is usually available during busy lunch periods.

looooads of staff standing around doing nothing yet takes an age to get your takeaway order. i could literally pick it up myself if you just gave me a bag, the sandwiches are all laid out on a table. all walking around with iPads clueless!

Stopped for breakfast before driving back home from Manchester. Breakfast was fantastic. We had granola, pastries and toast between our group and the food was fresh and delicious. It's not cheap but food was very good. Had a very clean modern vibe to it. You wouldn't know it was there from the outside! Definitely worth a visit if you're nearby and fancy bite to eat. The food menu looked good and they even did cocktails!

We've been going to Cafe Cotton since it was a v small cafe on Radium Street. I feel like we've seen it be really good, awful and mediocre over the years, but always continued to give it a chance because the food is actually really nice. Sadly recently the customer service and seemingly high turnover of staff has put us off. Numerous times recently we've been in (we always get takeout) and everytime received wrong orders, cold food and usually a new person the till every week who has no idea what they're doing. I hope they improve because the food is usually fresh and tasty ! (when you get the right order ha)

Service was extremely slow and food was mediocre, staff were nice but not particularly informative. Waited over half an hour for a salad which essentially just cucumber and red onion tossed together with some halloumi on top(which cost £2 extra). Seemed to very much cater to those taking out over those eating in.

Cool place! But I thought the lunch deal was any hot or cold drink + hot or cold sandwich + bakery for £6.50, without letting me know they charged me £4 more for 2x cappucinos, 1 iced latte, 2x brownies, 1 granola bar and 3 sandwiches. Just a bit confusing and I quite understand cuz the place is busy but the staff was inpatient with me picking so felt shy to ask about the price confusion after the rolled eyes haha Also sandwiches are on the dryer side & bakeries are always suuuuper oily, so don’t put it for later in your bag because it gets oily even through their paper bag btw!🤭 but overall quite nice for a little lunch!
