Cafe Che-Men in Hackney

This place is a hidden gem, I use to go to cafe route for my weekly brunch and was disappointed with how the portions were reducing and prices were going up. I came across this place and can honestly say it’s the best place for breakfast/brunch. This is coming from someone who has been to nearly all of the places around Angel/ dalston. On Monday I decided to invite my family here for dinner, the lamb kebab is exceptional, tender, flavoursome and great portions too.

Excellent menemen with soft, warm Turkish bread and good Turkish coffee. It is a lovely room with a great laid back vibe. All our breakfasts were tasty and looked lovely too. Charming service. Will be returning.

Visited on a Saturday. Close to Rectory Road tube. The food here is absolutely delicious and the potions generous. Meat very tender, salad and hummus devine. Loved the ‘toasted’ wraps. Lovely, helpful staff, very attentive. Very highly recommended.

Awful experience all our mains arrived and they had forgotten one them. Our Meze starter arrived at end of the meal. It seems the owners were more interested in dining with their friends than serving the customers. With so much choice in stoke Newington sure how they survive

If you speak Turkish with a nice accent, my advice is to speak in a low voice, don't cross your legs, they're fired :))) but if you speak English, it's okay ;)

Very good food, thank you for your delicious meal...it is very good restaurant in the heart of the Stoke Newington, Dalston, Hackney and in London. Mediterranean Turkish- Kurdish food in the East and North London.

I eat in here almost once a week. When I moved to the area last year just as the 1st lockdown was ending and waking up on the Saturday after a hard days moving I came here for a fry and boy is it a fry. It’s no Ulster fry but it is a great fry. Roll forward a year and I have tried a lot of the delicious food on the menu. Their lamb ribs are amazing. I would highly recommend any lamb dish here. Not only is the food good but the service is great too.

Terrible experience. Our waitress made an innocent mistake with the drink in my order. The “manager” took this out on me, shouted at me in the restaurant in the presence of other customers and refused to let me state the actual situation for clarity. My distaste for the incorrect drink was described as a “taste test” by the manager. He also refused to provide me with another drink. Furthermore, he continued to shout at the poor waiter infront of the other customers. He did not apologise to me or her. Overall, a horrible, embarrassing experience for a birthday outing. I will not be visiting again.

Firstly, i got to say i really admire the the design of the restaurant and it really stands out, from the hanging ceilings and lights to the terrace with spectacular flowers and plants all around. My friend and I ordered the platter for two which came with freshly made bread, salad, starters, rice and of course an amazing variety of chicken and lamb. they all tasted fresh and delicious. The portions and the hospitality were also very good. I will give this restaurant a 9/10 and would definitely recommend!

It was truly a unique experience. Very cozy atmosphere, it was the best falafel & halloumi grill... I have ever been eat in London. 🤤 One of mine friend said he liked their appetizers very much. Next time I will try their appetizers ..

It is good Restaurant to seat and eat in Kingsland road or Stoke Newington Road area... Qulaity Meditranian and Turkish food they serving..The nice layout and the lamb shish -mixed grilled kebab was fab! Great meeting point and chillout spot. Highly recommended

I have loved this place from the first moment I set foot in it, back when it opened just down the road, on Kingsland Road, Dalston. If you are in to Turkish food of the finest quality, I urge you to look no further than CheMen Restaurant. The mezze is so varied, as it should be, but these guys don’t believe in scrimping on produce either: everything is of the finest quality, but also cooked with such care and attention. Not only is the food second to none, you won’t find a more welcoming place on the strip. You will never find them turning table here either: you can sit for several hours, chewing the fat and sipping Old Fashioneds with your besties whilst wondering whether or not you could cope with one of their mouthwatering kebabs after all. Just go. You will not regret it.

Terrible service with very rude staff, specially the owner! I had very simple request such as sugar for my tea and was very rudely asked to browse around the resturants other tables to find it for myself. The owner was not open for any comments about the food or service about our experience and I was very bluntly shut off after my attemps of making a comment. I was very shocked with the service I have recieved and will not be returning again. The food was not too bad but the service makes the quality go down.

I am a very busy doctor at a local hospital. I run a team of 72 doctors and nurses. We have saved over 1000 patients during covid lock down.We initially had a good experience with my 3 doctor colleagues. However, we ordered all the mains at once and my order was not made. Even though the waiter had taken all the orders. I asked 6 times for my order and eventually after 20 mins it arrived. The others had almost finished. I complained and was given £.7,50 off. The bill came to approx £70. I paid by Amex which was accepted by the waiter. I put my pin in twice and it did not appear to be working. I called Amex in front of the waiter. I was standing at the till and the phone with Amex for 10 mins. Then the manager came. He said we do not accept Amex. not this was NOT advertised and you normally expect. I complained that the waiter wasted my time as he should know that Amex is accepted. The manager started shouting at me and told me he had a very busy day, even though I pointed out the only on third of the restaurant was full. He got even anger and threatened to charge me more (so exclude the government deal). I told him that was illegal. I told him I was a doctor and showed my pass (also my credit cards say Dr). Even then he continued to insult me. He knew I was doctor. The manager refused to give me his name . I told him I would be writing a review and he said so what. EXTREMELY BAD experience and the end of a busy surgery. THEY REFUSE TO ACCEPT ANT COMPLAINTS. I also told the manager I will be passing on my experience to my staff. He did not care. Also people may have been smoking as I saw an ashtray with stubs on the counter. It smelt awful. I am sending pictures to the council

This is our local Turkish restaurant and I’m glad to say that it’s our favourite one! They re-opened after considerable refurbishment under new management a few days before lockdown in March 2020. We started buying take-aways as soon as it was possible and they were consistently delicious. I’m so glad that we can now use its ample tables and welcoming space for meals both inside and on the terrace. Perfect for social distancing not only in summer but also when the weather turns colder! The service and food are both impeccable. The owners, Jamal and Kumru, are there everyday chatting to customers and helping maintain the high quality of the cooking. Don’t miss out!

Came here with my husband and my daughter.The service was mediocre... no spoons for the salad of the handful of rice served with the main.The food was an over priced disappointment.We ordered the mix kebab for 3 costing £45.Adana was awful!Chicken tasted like it had gone off ...dont waste your money here.Go to kervan where u always get great food at a great price.

I was a customer of Chemen when they were at Kingsland Road and quite upset when they closed down. Driving past the other day I was pleasantly surprised to see their sign again. I have been twice since to the new premises. Yet again the service and food is amazing. My favourite being the lamb Shish and their amazing signature dish menemen.

Chemen is a place where you can eat great burgers, delicious vegetarian foods, traditional turkish menemen and more. Waiters and waitresses were very friendly and interested. If you want to have a nice meal and have a great time with your friends, I highly recommend it.

A lovely couple is running this place which offers such a friendly environment and service. Food is extremely delicious from mezes to main courses. Try Set Mezes if you are coming for a drink with friends as an appetizer. Additionally, garlic mushroom is a must! I want to thank to Mr and Mrs Karakus for their kind service. We will definately come back soon!

Dividido entre no dejar mi primera revisión para mantener esta joya para mí solo y darles la recomendación que merecen, pero quiero que estas personas encantadoras lo hagan bien. Vengo aquí todo el tiempo, a veces a la hora del trabajo, a tomar un delicioso café y a comer los mejores manemen que he tenido, y la noche para disfrutar de excelentes sets de kebabs y cócteles (¡negroni!). ¡Disfrutar!

I use the CheMen cafe a couple of days to week to work from when working from home. The staff are really nice and the food is great especially the breakfasts and the adanna. Highly recommend as a place to chill and work from whilst being brought teas and coffees.

We came here for a family meal for a celebration. The food was generous and delicious, portions are realy big especially menemen and kebabs was great the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, and there was a lovely atmosphere in general.

I regularly eat at Chemen as I like the food as well the friendly laid-back atmosphere. You can find delicious selection from meat to vegan dishes. I would recommend their spinach menemen and mezes. Enjoy 👍

Ideale per un pranzo tra amici, ambiente molto informale e familiare. Servizio un po' brusco ma accettabile. Portate molto abbondanti e cibo di buona qualita'. Il Menemen e' un piatto molto ricco e saporito a base di uova. Noi abbiamo provato quello con la carne di agnello e ci e' piaciuto. Tenera anche la carne del lamb shish.

We were looking for brunch on a Sunday and this place came up. I was motivated by the menu, and we were not disappointed. Everything came out as advertised and no one was disappointed. I had Turkish coffee and the Che Men breakfast, my friends had the Menenens. Highly recommend it all. Nice feel as well, very comfortable.

Es mi primera vez de comer en la cafetería hombres che y era muy bonita. El café en sí es realmente acogedor y relajante música único con. Pedí la hamburguesa de cordero con patatas fritas y rizado era increíble, la hamburguesa cocinada en carbón que nos dió que FLAVORR y patatas fritas también era genial, me has comimos patatas fritas en un largo rizado y tuve realmente echamos de menos. El precio es muy asequible, con una gran porción y tamaños. Sin duda volveremos a probar otro sitio.

I come here all the time as I work nearby. Staff are always friendly, attentive and food comes quick. The Menemen is excellent, I order it too much! Wraps are excellent too. Also a good place to chill with a beer, tea, coffee/iced coffee and do a bit of work on the Laptop, outside or in. Free Wifi and space to sit comfortably. A place for all seasons, hot or cold. Owners are a really nice and reasonable bunch too.

I spend a lot of time at Che-men and the food never disappoints. Amazing menemen dishes, mezze, omelettes.. it's all good! The staff are extremely friendly and there's a good amount of outdoor tables for when the weather is good. Highly recommend!

Me and my friends live in the area and go to Che-men a lot. The staff are always so lovely and welcoming to us. The food is great and service is quick. It also has a really laid back atmosphere so we end up staying for hours after we've eaten relaxing and sitting on the terrace. Always the first place I take people visiting me and I would reccomend it to anyone.

I fell in love with Che-Men cafe around four years ago and since then I have been a regular. I have recommended it to many of my friends and they have all enjoyed it. There is even live music usually on Fridays. The owners are very warm and welcoming too.

Love this place. It's downstairs from or flat and we go all the time. Recently my girlfriend had a birthday meal and we decided to go to our favourite Turkish restaurant. They were incredibly accommodating to our large group of people. Provided amazing service and managed to satisfy 17 (some fussy) people. We'll keep on coming back here for breakfast, lunch and dinner on a regular basis!

The food at this cafe was very yummy, they have a mixture of different turkish and english dishes and are very generous with portion sizes and it is fairly priced. Also vegetarian friendly! The fresh mint tea that comes in a little teapot is my favourite. The staff are also very friendly and are always very nice to us when we come in. The atmosphere of the place is very calming, the yellow wall and sofa make it very comfortable too. There is also an outside section which has a roof cover and is perfect for the summer!

They were amazing.. I organised my wedding party at this venue.. They were very kind to all my guests and made me really happy..They even offered us free champagne and a bottle of wine.. lovely food cosy atmosphere.. definitely recommend it..

When you are visiting Che-Men Cafe you have to Che-Men spicy burger, it's mixed lamb and beef meat and spicy-hot chilli, it's amazing...

Hi stopped here with my family. The menu was great with something for the children and I tried something new see photo. The food was great and the service was fantastic.

I’ve eaten here so many times now and felt the warm welcome and reception of Jamal the owner to the extent that I consider this high spirited place a haunt of mine. As a vegan I can easily eat here with a carnivorous partner who is equally catered for. It would be foolish of me to leave out the atmosphere when live acts bring both smiles and vast emotions form the intimate crowds. This place is a genuine and modest diamond.

MUST TRY//Che-men Special BurgerIt's so good! The meat is really juicy lamb and beef mix with perfect spice balance. Softest bun to compliment the meat. It's one of the best burgers I had in my life!

Sind durch Zufall über Tripadvisor auf das Café Che-Men gestoßen und waren absolut begeistert. Das Restaurant bietet eine große Auswahl an typisch mediterranen Gerichten an, dazu rustikalen, gemütlichen Vintage Flair. Außer Hauptgerichten gibt es auch eine ganztägige Frühstückskarte und sowohl warme als auch kalte Gerichte, je nach Lust und Laune. Wir wurden sehr freundlich bedient und der türkische Tee am Schluss ging auf's Haus. Das Essen war ausgezeichnet! Aufgrund der etwas versteckten Lage scheint das Café tagsüber nicht wirklich busy zu sein. Davon sollte man sich auf keinen Fall abschrecken lassen :) Ein Besuch lohnt sich!

Let me just start by saying that this place is an absolute gem. It has a great contemporary atmosphere implementing a modern style but still giving you a bit of a retro vibe. As to the food, there is where this place really shines. Rustic Mediterranean cuisine to give you a touch of the region and to make you feel nice and cosy. The staff was friendly and helping. Definitely would go on to eat there again. Personal recommendation try the Menemen and absolutely have a glass of Turkish tea. One of the gems of Hackney.

We ate here twice during our recent vacation in London. The menemens (garlic sausage, egg, chopped tomatoes, green peppers, served in a pan) were the best I had and the full breakfast – eggs, bacon, beans, fries, sausage, toast – was good and filling. Good cappuccino, nice café atmosphere, good service.

Went there with partner and family, didn't quite know what to make of the place when entering but was greeted by a warm welcome and an impressive menu.The portion sizes were big and all were cooked fresh and tasted fantastic. The prices- cheap! Interior was quirky as you would expect for Dalston / Haggerston.Our waitress was attentive and provided fantastic quick and efficient service.Great experience overall at a bargain price. Will definitely be going back.

We went there on a Saturday night as everything else around was very crowdy, and we had fantastic time. The food was delicious (10 points for the vegetarian selection!) and the service was great. We spent quite some time there but didn't feel rushed at all and people serving us were incredibly nice. The music was very good as well. It feels that it may be one of the few still undiscovered by crows gems in Dalston. I would definitely recommend and I will definitely visit again!

We went with some friends to the Che-Men Cafe and since we did not know the area, were quite surprised by how excellent (and vegetarian-friendly) the food was. The service was kind and funny. I particularly liked the atmosphere of the place, that was nicely decorated, with books and art pieces, rather quiet but with great background music (Leonard Cohen). The place is a nice contrast to the other dark, loud and crowded pubs we had seen before. We had a great time to dine and chat and even play a set of games without time pressure and even with some desert on the house ;)It's definetely become one of my favourite places to hang out with friends and as a vegetarian, one of my favourite places to dine.

Delicious homemade Turkish food and Turkish tea! The place has a lot of character and the service is superb.

Down to earth, no fuss, generous portions, excellently prepared dishes.Turkish style food, with a more varied and imaginative menu than one would usually expect, with friendly service and no airs and graces. Che-Men compares favourably to all Turkish restaurants I have been to in Istanbul, Ankara, Europe, the US and South Africa.The decor, ambience and attitude of the staff make this a very relaxing experience - no pretence. And the meze and kebabs are first class. The meat has been very well seasoned and is cooked to succulent perfection. How could it improve? Only with one measure: serve the Efes on draught instead of in bottles, but maybe I'm just fussy!Cafe Che-Men give us a lesson in how to keep it simple for a big impact.

Excellent Grilled Seabream Fish, salad, Rice, chips and bread I have had in the Che Men Cafe Restaurant in Kingsland Road. Meditranian style grilled fish in large portion of the wooden plate, rice and fish on the white or brown wraps bread.Very good, very delisicious fish, I would say best sebream, seabass in that place serving to us.Thanks.

Unfortunately I can not agree what all the "1 review persons" say about this restaurant. To start with the service, which was not more than average and eventually less than average. The food was nothing special, just a normal treat what you can expect in this kind of restaurants. The portions were generous, but that's it. It does not make a good restaurant.Time to pay - they advertised to accept American Express, but surprice surprice, their machine did mot read my Amex. Even though I had judt used it in an other restaurant without any problems. And actually it worked just fine in the next restaurant I visited.When I questioned do they really accept Amex, the service was not at all friendly.It makes me wonder if this is the first Tripadvisor scam that I've ran into.

Couldn't recommend this Restaurant enough. The food is amazing and has never disappointed in the many times I have been, they also have a great selection of beers. The staff are very friendly and are happy to go the extra mile. GO CHE MEN!!!!

Its amazing food combined with its chilled out atmosphere, makes it my favourite haunt in Dalston.I had an " Adana kofte" today which is grilled mince meat spiced up with various herbs. The feeling of succulent meat melting in your mouth is en experience to be sample.Give it a go and you will keep going

che-men is lil slice of the heaven on the main road. super relaxed, cheap food, cheap drinks... sounds lame but feels like your in another country. me and my friends go there at least twice a week to unwind. love it!

Very good! Lovely food must try! I love the desserts one of the best cakes I ever had also Friendly waitresses and the service is perfect.

this is my second visit in che-men cafe, in my first visit I have ordered home made lamb burger but I didn't like the bun, but in my second visit I have been told that they have changed the burger bun and I have tried it and that was best homemade lamb burger I had ever, I will definitely be back and recommend everyone.

We booked Chemen for a staff night out and everyone had a brilliant night. The staff were incredibly accommodating and friendly. There was so much food and it was all great! Would definitely recommend.

I ate a Turkish garlic sausage Menemen and i drunk a coffee. I liked it.. I'll come again, thank you Good coffee , friendly staff and good service..

always eat the lamb sote here with my dad... the mixed kebab and felafel are also really good!! i always get a fresh orange juice with my meal and t makes it that much nicer :D
