I paid £5 for a vanilla milkshake which turned out to be a cup of milk and a scoop of ice cream. He didn't even add ice. The woman who greeted me was nice but the guy who was in charge was miserable, it seemed as though she had to walk on egg shells around him which is unacceptable in any workplace. There are many other places in Durham that are cheaper and better.

Lovely place to eat with great service

Although there were only a few costumers, we waited for about 10 minutes to place the order and other 40 minutes for it to arrive. The caramel milk-shake seemed to be skim milk with a pinch of caramel. The panini was quite tasteless, filled with the thiniest slices possible of ham and cheese. Dirty dishes remained on the tables for a long time before someone came to pick them up. To sum up, do not waste your money, but mainly your time with this cafe.

Stopped off for brunch on a short visit to Durham. Food hit the spot. Sat outside in the sunshine. Table a bit unstable on the slowing forecourt.

Had the full English. The whole thing was barely warm, the toast was white and the sausage was freezing. The whole thing was obviously pre cooked and not freshly made, apart from the egg. Also the waffle was shop bought and not freshly made. Not impressed. For the same price you can get freshly made, far nicer and bigger portions.

We popped in for a coffee during the week. Great atmosphere and service from Mahmut. So much potential within the place would go back.

Ordered pancakes and a waffle with strawberries and chocolate and wish we had gone somewhere else. Pancakes and waffle were clearly from the supermarket not freshly made as the pictures suggested, and half the amount of food shown in the pictures too. Not impressed at all, won’t be back.

Quite the worst coffee I’ve tasted in the UK which is saying something. The flat white was just milk not the slightest taste of coffee. The miserable elderly Italian man, resentful in demeanour, would be fired if he was in Italy. Possibly re-using old coffee rather than resetting the expresso machine. Funny how foreigners come to the UK, set up a business and think they can get away with terrible service.

1star is for the waiting staff only who were very helpful.bruschetta was an actual slice of bread topped with watery tomato and onion, Bolognese and cheese panini was stone cold inside, pizza was way overcooked and wrong drinks sent to table,would never go again,one of the worst places I have ever eaten in or should say not eaten in as most got sent back,we went elsewhere.would definitely not recommend

Popped into Cafe Capriccio for a spot of lunch, as soon as we walked through the door we were greeted with a small and offered a few places to sit (where we found best). The staff were very friendly and very good with my two little girls. While they don't have a children's menu they will offer smaller portions in the pasta dishes at a lesser price which I found great as some places refuse to do this. The food portions are very good and the food is delicious. They offer a good selection of dishes and drinks for a good price. I will definitely be coming again when I am next in Durham.

Had lunch here while exploring Durham. Nice venue for a meal, friendly staff, good food. Would come back there, yet plenty of nice options around too.

Stopped for late breakfast. My husband ordered bacon,sausage and egg 'bap'. This came on cheap white sliced bread, toasted on one side, cheap sausages, overcooked eggs (served on the side). Even our dog wouldn't eat the sausage! I ordered breaded chicken in a some sort of bread roll. Not breaded, chicken in cubes, dry, hard and the 'bread' was soggy. Needless to say we ate very little. Even the coffee that was supposed to have an extra shot was weak as dishwater. My husband did pay but when asked if everything was okay he did say, no it was not, and told them what was wrong but just got a shrug of the shoulders. Avoid no way do you get value for money or anything else. 😁

Shambolic. Awful service. Waited 40 minutes for three paninis that never arrived. Eventually cancelled the order and went somewhere else.

I ordered capriccio 1/2 a pounder with fries, it was brought to me without napkins or cutlery and no sauce. Despite asking for no cheese, it came with. Bread was mediocre at best, meat was tasteless. My wife ordered spaghetti bolognese, canned spaghetti tastes better. The 2 meals and 1 small bottle of water, total was £26. Burger £10.5, spaghetti £11. So the water must be £4.5.

We visited as two obvious tourists asking for a take away panini. Charged my friend £13 rather than the £9 on the menu, offered me a tea while we were waiting which I thought was on the house and charged me £3.50 when we were leaving. Neither panini nor its filling were fresh or nice. Not tecommended

Wouldn’t return - ignored by waitress for 10 mins to place an order, eventually ordered 2x tuna/cheese panini’s and they brought us a bolognese panini and tuna/aubergine panini! No apology or acknowledgment from staff. Really unimpressed with the service - very slow.

Served us mouldy dessert! We ordered 4 tiramasou desserts, all came different sizes so we asked for one to be changed. One of us took a bite, it was off! Another spotted green mould on the top! Took them back, said we didn't want replacement. They bought 4 fresh out, we thought ok maybe on the house. Nope, charged us, didn't even say sorry. Flat white was a latte, had to ask for an extra shot. Deep fried fat smell as you go in, we should have taken that as a sign.

When we entered seemed a cute quirky place. We ordered 3 full English breakfast black coffee and 2 teas. It took 20mins for drinks to come then took 40mins for breakfast. When the breakfast came we had one sausage cut in half one rasher of bacon 2 came with small amount of mushrooms one with none on. A hash brown an egg some beans and the cheapest bread which must of been hovered over toaster which was dry no butter. Which the whole breakfast was cold and for almost 12 pound per breakfast we were disgusted. Spent 45 pounds on poor food wouldn't recommend based on our experience.

Ate here Friday 23rd Feb. Food was fine. Karen the server was the one who made this place great. She was fab and on her first day with the business of the fire and ice festival was a total pro.

Very beautiful little shop. The coffee is good, but I want a black American without milk. The tomatoes in the Full English breakfast are delicious, but the hash browns are cold and the bread and mushrooms are average. I don’t recommend them.

Having breakfast here at the moment. It charges full English breakfast £18+, but serves small ones. The mushrooms are not fresh, bacon is hard and coffee is tasteless. Never come again.

I was somehow charged £4.50 (though last time I was charged £3 for the same thing!) for a very disgusting iced latte that I couldn’t even get halfway through. It somehow tasted like it had barely any coffee in it, too much syrup, barely any ice, and chocolate powder and cream on top? They also didn’t seem happy when I asked to pay with card. I found my visits before this to be quite nice, but I won’t be back after this time and I’m extremely disappointed about the price

Cosy, snug, lovely atmosphere, very relaxed!

We both ordered the breaded chicken paninis with one side of salad and one side of chips (£8.90 each). However, the chicken was just grilled and diced into small pieces, not breaded. The amount of chicken in each panini was extremely small and, with no other fillings, was definitely not worth the price. The portion of chips that came with one of them was also very small. The service was friendly, but the portions were not worth the price.

Great food and atmosphere, staff are very friendly. Would recommend if you’re in Durham!!

Have stopped outside many a time for a coffee and cannoli but due to the rain and feeling peckish headed inside for something more substantial. My partner and I both had paninis his with chips mine with salad. His tuna and aubergine was lacking in tuna and he was disappointed with the lack of chips. I enjoyed my goats cheese and peppers and side salad but the 2 meals were not worth a higher rating. I think we’ll stick with just coffee in the future as that was as good as always.

First visit to this lovely Italian cafe, lovely friendly staff. We will be back soon

came here with my family and it was brilliant. we came at lunch time and the only issue we had was that the food took a little bit longer then expected but we were told this upon ordering so all was good. the food was delicious and the staff were very friendly. will definitely return.

Very comfortable seating and very good atmosphere. Very friendly staff with fast service and amazing food for good prices. The staff are also very helpful and understanding when handling food for vegetarians and make sure no meat contact is made. 10/10 highly recommended

Beyond rude service,we had a dirty table and we had to ask for it to be cleaned,and a waiter just threw all the dirty napkins on a floor ! The food was very low quality and again when the waitress was bringing it to the table she was throwing plates very aggressively ,really shocking .But the worst was when in the end we were said that we can’t pay by card ,because they are trying to save money from transactions (obviously meaning that there won’t be a receipt even if paying by cash ) ,but we wasn’t prepared and didn’t have cash at all so they insisted that we should pay all together to make one receipt,again to save money ,and when we went to pay a man at the cashier was screaming and threatening a waitress for allowing us to do it ,and after we intervened in this horrific scene ,saying that it’s actually against the law what is going on in here ,he immediately changed his voice and allowed us to pay separately by card . I don’t understand how can this happen in a central street of such a tourist place ,where police is passing by every half an hour..

Went to Durham for a day trip and came across cafe capriccio. Went in, chose a table. Looked through menu and our order was taken when ready. Drinks came soon and food wasn't too long after. Missing items which weren't noticed until we asked for them, salad arrived in 2/3 mins, chips arrived about 10 mins into meal. Food was average and certainly not authentic italian. I have been to italy, the food there is amazing. Service was ok. They had no vinegar! Condiments where shared between tables! I wouldn't go back.

Don't be fooled by the non descript outside of the building. This is an amazing, genuine Italian restaurant. I particularly enjoy their pizzas, which are on the thinner side (my preference) but definitely not skinny. Everything is freshly cooked to order, always piping hot and absolutely delicious. The staff are charming and the service is good (although expect to wait if they've just taken a big order). My only complaint is thats I no longer enjoy pizza anywhere else!

We came here because our first choice for pancakes was closed. The menu said waffles and pancakes with different things on top. We ordered and I was given Fanta rather than orange juice which was replaced. Waited ages for food (not a big deal) but then the pancakes and waffles were cold and clearly from a premade packet from a supermarket, with three strawberries on each. We didn't say anything as we had brought our kids for a special trip and they were okay, so didn't want to ruin it for them but it was very disappointing. It also wasn't cheap, £6 for pancakes, £7 for the waffle and £4.50 for hot chocolate and £3 for orange juice. My friend's son has dietary issues so this is his one "treat" of the week. Shame because the place could have been nice.

Didn't bring a paper bill when we requested to pay, just said it was "£7". We queried this since it didn't match the prices on the menu and the waiter said "my boss told me to add 50p to the bill because you are paying by card and it is under £10". Adding a surcharge for paying by card is illegal in the UK (see: THE CONSUMER RIGHTS (PAYMENT SURCHARGES) REGULATIONS 2012).

Beautiful place, high quality pizza and very nice and professional waiters. 5 stars is the right vote.

En Cafe med tynd kaffe, og en sandwich uden grønt og med lunken tun og ost er lige engelske for min smag.. men kaviteten var der ikke noget galt med. De var også super søde. Og så kunne man se folk gå op af en mega stejl bakke mens man sad ned..

Quite a disappointing experience unfortunately. On entering, the cafe was quiet inside (there are tables outside, but on a quite steep slope) however we were told where to sit rather than asked where we would prefer. After we had received our menus I noticed a small sign by the till saying “cash only”. We weren’t warned by the waitress and I had to return to the car to get my wallet. Not many places these days don’t take card payment. Coffee was £3.50 but tasted mediocre and was too hot - perhaps to hide the taste. Bacon roll was £5.50. This was poor as the meat was very fatty. By the time I had removed the fat there was very little meat left. Ketchup was Heinz but brown sauce was in a generic bottle that was taken off us for use on another table. Paid at the till, £19. I’m sure the owner was expecting the £1 back as a tip but it wasn’t deserved. A generous 2 stars. As another reviewer has mentioned this place seems like a tourist trap.

The decor is bellisima! Little Italy in the heart of Durham with friendly staff. My friend ordered a fry up as he is a little englander which looked amazing. Our coffee was nice but the pizza was so average which is why I have only given 3 star. I expected better especially when ordering a pizza named after napoli the birthplace of pizza. It was too dry, no flavour to the sauce and topped with fake mozzarella. It was like a tourist trap pizza you get in some places in Rome. Will stick to desserts and paninis next time until pizza improves. Other than that Bravo!

APPALLING BURGERS lunch for two at £26. School canteen type burgers. To be safe, before ordering, I looked up 'capriccio burger' online, it looked OK no gourmet but...the thing I received looked nothing like it - it was a boiled burger, then fried, no garnish, raw onion, bit of lettuce, basic bun. So basic, so backward. Nice venue in convenient location taking the pee/advantage of customers. RUBBISH FOOD, and slow service.

The flat white wasn’t a flat white: it was an Americano with some hot milk added. The almond biscuits (from the jar on the counter) were a little stale.

This place has some amazing vibes. In a beautiful weather you gonna enjoy company with your partner and coffee. I just tried the coffee there so far which came out well and a great conversation with a new friend. Really like the atmosphere there which is most like European Italian style ,Next time I am gonna try food with some more drinks

Got a take out paninni today, delicious! Tasted so fresh, nice and hot and fries were perfect. Staff were so friendly. We need to keep lovely little local eateries like this going!

Cute little cafe with friendly staff and great service. Came here for the Durham Restaurant Week deal for any pizza and a cold drink for £10 - very reasonably priced especially considering everything tasted fresh and full of flavour. Would recommend the pizza and the homemade tiramisu!

Should have read the other panini reviews! 'Contactless accepted here' sign on the door, once you go in they have a tiny chalk sign at the far end of the shop 'cash only'.

Nice cosy café and the food was excellent. Sadly our tea and coffee order was forgotten and then when it arrived was a bit underwhelming. Would happily go back to eat though.

Tried to add 50p surcharge for payment below £10 which is illegal in the UK. Also spoke to a friend in a suggestive manner. Would not recommend on grounds of bad practice.

If you go to this cafe for some food or just a Panini then check the inside. As they cut corners with the filling and charge you stupid prices for nothing.

£4 for a bang average cappuccino??! When asked why it was so expensive we were told it was due to rise in cost of ingredients. I can't speak for the value of the food, but because of cappucino-gate I won't be rushing back to find out.

Love this cafe, it's very reasonably priced, I have visited a few times over the past 2 years. Coffee tastes soooo much better than big brands like Costa, Starbucks, Pret a Manger, etc.! The almond croissant is delightful, great sweet snack with a coffee. Today tried the iced Americano for the first time, it was lovely and refreshing! Staff are very friendly and accommodating. It's the only cafe I've visited where the staff have dissolved the sugar in the espresso before making the iced coffee as requested. Would recommend 100%!

I was looking for a nice little café to sit outside in the sun with my dog and came across Capriccio’s. The service from the young lady and gentleman was great and the pizza was beautiful! My food arrived quickly & I was welcomed inside to make payment where jars of cannoli caught my eye… a couple of chocolate ones to go and I was wished a good day. I’ll definitely come back here :)

We visited this cosy Italian cafe today. My 11 year old daughter wanted to busk with her saxophone to raise money for Ukraine. We asked permission from the owner to busk outside and he was really supportive and helpful. The staff were friendly and the tea and traditional Italian cakes were fabulous too.

Absolutely disgusting coffee (watery, tasteless gloop which I suspect was scooped up from the River Wear – one of the worst in my life), stale cannoli with inexpressibly vile and random orange sauce to make a pigeon shudder, but moreover, despicable customer service: the aforementioned slop was served without a smile and left standing on the grotty table without the slightest whiff of compunction from the waiter (mean-minded and cruel) when I reported on its truly inedible state. Said bully forced me and my dining companion to pay the full whack (£15!) in a frothing fit of rage. NEVER stop at this place for anything to eat or drink. I am truly astounded by the rock-bottom standard of goods and the equally shambolic behaviour of the beastly staff. My ideal review: -5 out of 5.

It took over an hour just to get thinnest pizza and lasagna, by that time coffee was cold and when they brought pizza they just put round olives at the top so they would just roll of the pizza to the floor, I mean literally nobody puts round olives on the pizza because it’s pointless and the lasagna was raw and hard, it wasn’t worth the wait at all.

Coffee not very nice, dark and dingy inside. I assume it was one of the owners who served me, unfortunately he had a bit of a surly attitude. The young waitress was very pleasant but I would not recommend it and will not go back.

Get breakfast, no scrambled eggs on toast

The coffee machine, horrendous! How can you serve people coffee from a coffee machine that hasn't been cleaned for what is looked like , weeks even months? Not tamping your coffee before you extract it from the grouphead??? Build up of milk in your steam wand (at least 7-8 layers) that's a health hazard!!! You toping up your milk jug and then let it sit all day reheating milk (and by reheating I mean literally burning it to the point it turns yellow). Your guests will get poisoned! Your bacon was discolored and smelled weird as well. Your staff needs proper training and here we talking about just the basics. For sure we will not returning unless if we want to get food poisoning.

Food is great for the price, service on the other hand... Some waiters were very friendly but others glum as they come. Pair of identical twins working in the back both seemed to have Hitler tattoos?!? Really hoping they've moved on from that part of their life and are saving up for tat removal but not a good look for the ristorante in any case...
