We’ve stayed just down the road from the Gaelic Centre four times now but this is the first time we’ve realised that the cafe is open outwith special events. We had excellent coffee and scones served by lovely friendly staff. The centre is very peaceful and has great views. We also really enjoyed seeing the paintings by local artist Dieter Finger - both the landscapes and the impressive portraits of some of the musicians who’ve played at the Lagavulin jazz festival in the past.

Lovely spacious place with friendly staff. Thoroughly enjoyed lunch and there was plenty of it. Great baking that you can takeaway as well. Will definitely be back

Had a takeaway so not able to properly enjoy the fantastic views. Lots of home cooking, including cakes and loaves. We had toasties, salads, cakes and baked potatoes but they do more. What we had were prepared with much care, much more than standard fare for these dishes. Part of the Gaelic Centre and could be easily missed, though on the main road, just outside Bowmore. Very friendly and helpful service. Coronavirus safeguards are taken seriously.

My wife and I dropped into the café last week where we both had great vegetarian food. The choice is really good and the cook is happy to make things not on the menu (within reason) for vegans. The staff are friendly and professional. We ended up meeting a local and we spent ages catching up on gossip (we used to live on slay). Highly recommended.

Ate here three times in one week recently, and have eaten here in previous years. Food is always lovely. The young lady at the counter (perhaps fairly new and a bit unsure?) needs a little more guidance and could learn from the more mature members of staff regarding general communication, eye contact, a smile etc., but she did consult for answers. Having been on a gluten free diet earlier in the year, it was really good to see GF food on offer, so fine for coeliacs. The actual building (Gaelic college) is lovely, bright and airy with interesting displays on the walls. Its only fault is that it’s not open on a Saturday and it closes at 3.30pm during the week.

A cheerful cafe with basic but good food e.g. soup, panini and toasties. It was good value and clearly a hit with the locals. Recommend for a quick lunch in a nice spot with parking.

We ate here two nights in a row in early August. The menu changed each night so there were new things to try. We gelt some of the food, such as the starters, were over priced for the portion (£8.50 for two small croquettes) but they were delicious. However, the slices of cake we got for pudding were easily big enough for two (the picture shows two half slices on one plate) and each only £6.50. The cakes and puddings we had were all top notch A*** (esp choc ganache) so worth coming in just for coffee and cake even if you don't have a meal. We booked in advance via WhatsApp for 6pm dinner: Wed night it was quiet but the Thursday was heaving so glad we booked. The food we had was c. £20 for a main course and was really well made and delicious. Portions aren't huge but were sufficient. There isn't a kids menu so the first night we shared two meals between the three of us and had pudding, but the second night we had a main each. The Island Cafe is cheaper than the Coll Hotel and has a nice home made, welcoming feel to it with local art and two linked rooms, one with sofas and tables and the other just tables. The serving staff were nice young people. My partner also had coffee and cake here and the cakes really are very good (I hear the Chelsea buns are to die for too) and my coffee-snob partner says this is the best coffee available on Coll.
