Been here a couple of times before but this was the worst. Came here as happened to be in Biggleswade on business Overpriced completely for breakfasts and not allowed any breakfast swaps and wants to charge £1.50 for anything extra… waiter, in between being on his laptop with headphones, was trying to upsell and even at one point congratulated himself on being a great salesman!! You are not :-( Food quality not good and for £7 elsewhere I also get toast and a hot drink and good quality food. So wasted £21 and your milk was on the turn too!

The man who usually greets customers and takes their orders has a cheeky sense of humour. I find this part of the charm of this café. If, however you do not have a sense of humour yourself, you may struggle with this establishment. You may also struggle if you are of a fragile disposition or possess an inflated sense of uniqueness, or an unwarranted sense of entitlement, or are overly emotional, easily offended, and unable to deal with opposing opinions. Not all the staff here are confident English speakers. Persons of a contemptible disposition may confuse a lack of verbal interaction with rudeness. it isn’t rudeness, it is just someone whose mother tongue isn’t English doing their best. The menu has a wide selection of traditional café style dishes. The value is fabulous. I have so far received generous portions of well-prepared food. Café 8 has become my go to place in Biggleswade. Highly recommended.

Me and my partner went there today to have some lunch. As we went to order the rude waiter tried to make me order more food by saying I’m too skinny and should eat more???!! Unbelievably rude and insensitive. This made me upset and we left the cafe. How are you insulting customers who put money in your pockets. Won’t be visiting again and according to other reviews the rude behavior from staff is nothing new. Would rather support other local business. Ended up going to Beegees just a few minutes away where the customer service was lovely unlike cafe 8. Avoid avoid avoid!!

We’ve never been to eat out in Biggleswade before and stumbled across this place and thought we’d give it a go for lunch. The guy who greeted us lamely thought his “banter” was funny.... but he managed to totally insult my partner, so we walked out halfway through ordered, he even apologised!! First rule of customer care : don’t insult your customers, the people that keep your business going, mate! Also UPDATE YOUR MENUS instead of telling us that each thing we were going to order had gone up by 50p here, £1 there because your bills had gone up. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE.... try Cafe Mocha or anywhere else instead :-)

We have been here before for a quick, cheap and easy lunch and thought it was ok, nothing special, so went for a second visit today. We were curious as to how they make any money with such cheap prices, so looked on TripAdvisor to see the reviews. And there were so many people mentioning being overcharged! We added up our bill, my partner went to pay and was told our £9.50 bill (two baguettes, one portion of chips and two cans of coke) was in fact £17!! When questioned the owner still failed to type in the correct prices, trying to charge £1.40 for a can of coke that was £1.10…. We won’t now be returning, but if you’re thinking of a visit, please do your own maths before parting with any money!

Been going to this cafe on a regular basis for a while now Started to realise that we was getting over charged £3/4 each time. When we questioned it the owner was very rude and acted like we was stupid. Cheap and nasty produce with a rude service anyway. no one needs that, especially when you’ve been a regular customer. Only went there as It’s the only cafe in Biggleswade that sells a fry up. Never again.

I've eaten here quite a few times recently and I have enjoyed my food on every visit. There's plenty of choice and reasonably priced. The staff have always been friendly and the place is always clean. I love the omelettes, light and fluffy with plenty of filling, I chose ham and cheese with an amazing fresh salad. I'd also recommend the Cumberland Breakfast which I had on a previous visit.

Okay, so, the food here is okay, but when looking at the menu, trying to calculate the cost of our meal, just to ensure that we were able to afford the meal out of our budget, we assumed we would be okay. £14 doesn't sound too unreasonable for what we ordered, so we thought it would be okay. We get our food, and it's quite nice. I did get quite uncomfortable at the amount of time the chef was staring at us while we were there, but maybe they just wanted to be friendly. Though, there was a whole lot of giggling and talking in a foreign language. Though it's fine to speak in foreign languages, it would be appreciated if it was not just after staring at me, followed by laughing. So, when it comes to paying, like I said, our meal was to be no more than £14. The man ringing us up then takes almost 5 minutes putting in numbers then restarting because he kept making mistakes. The total then came to just over £18. Quite a ripoff considering the menu shows different prices. It seems they don't just make customers feel somewhat like a joke, but also rip you off with random prices they pull out of thin air. I will not be returning.

I wrote my previous review of this cafe almost 5 years ago and gave it 5 stars. Sadly, now I have boycotted the place. On a positive note I have always enjoyed the food and especially the coffee. However, during my most recent visits I have to be very wary not to be cheated. They seem to charge as much as they can get away with. Twice I have been with a friend and they have given insufficient change to her. When pointed out there is no apology, just a sigh of disappointment that they have been discovered. On one occasion I queried overpricing and was told prices are higher on a Sunday or I had extra gravy! They would charge extra for putting butter in a sandwich or roll if they thought they could get away with it. Unfortunately the above are not "one offs". I have either experienced it myself or had a fellow diner experience it regularly. I understand their business has been badly affected by the opening of Wetherspoons and other places. Even so there is no excuse for blatant overcharging and cheating.

I’m no serial complainer but having eaten here a couple of time now, I felt I wanted to write a review so this place can hopefully do something about it. The food is actually not bad. The whole place is let down by the guy who occasionally serves, cooks and takes the payment. There’s no “hello, how are you?”, no , “enjoy your food” when bringing your order out, no “thank you” when paying. Me and my friend were shocked, we laughed just how bad it was. He just brings out the food and puts the plates in front of you and walks off. When paying, he tells you the price, you give him the money, he takes it and then gives change if needed. It’s amazing to me, that he doesn’t acknowledge your custom. There’s some younger girls who serve in there which are an example to him, he should take note and follow. Simple basics of customer service are far from from followed. It’s crazy when you, as the customer are more polite than the place you’re eating. The food’s fine though. Please, for the sake of the business which must be harder and harder with Wetherspoons now in time, just have a go at smiling and acknowledging your customers.

There are no frills about this old-fashioned caff in the centre of Biggleswade and with some high-tone competition opening up nearby you might think it would struggle. No sign of that yet though, and there are obviously regulars who are well known to the team, which is always a good sign. The lights are bright, the seating is taped up in places, but there's art for sale on the walls, a menu featuring more than 200 items and a commitment to fast and friendly service. To be honest there was nothing stunning about our lunchtime selection but nearby plates were piled high for those opting for bigger meals, we were well fed and had change from a tenner, which is a result in my book.

We've had good experiences here and poor experiences, unfortunately. You never quite know what it will be like. If the owner is in it's usually quite good, and he likes to acknowledge customers and has offered free cups of tea sometimes. When he's not there the staff are rather variable, some of them giving the strong impression you're a bit of a nuisance. It's a shame because, overall it has the makings of a very good cafe. The food is usually pretty good, typical good-value cafe food. But some of the staff let it down badly. We still visit sometimes because it's the only cafe in the area serving this sort of food at the weekends. But if there was a choice we'd probably go elsewhere.

A friend and I wanted a breakfast on a Sunday morning and being aware the Cafe 8 was open Sundays, I phoned the day before to check the opening times and was told they opened at 08:00. We duly turned up at around 08:15. There were tables on the pavement outside the cafe, the doors were wide open and there were staff inside. It was open, so it seemed. We sat down at a table and started to peruse the menu when 'nine' was somewhat rudely shouted to us by a member of staff. I mentioned to the person my previous telephone call and all of a sudden no one in the cafe could understand English and told me so through a series of hand gesticulations. I pointed out where it reads on the menu that the cafe was open from 08:00 seven days a week which again was not understood as no one had a basic understanding of the English language. In short, when you ask a simple question in good faith and get told the wrong answer and then when you find out you were misinformed a simple explanation and apology would be appreciated. However, being feigned with ignorance of language is completely out of order. You just can't trust a business that is prepared to behave like this. Just imagine if they are willing to misinform and then feign ignorance to their customers regarding opening times then how can you trust the food they will put on your plate. Avoid! Avoid! Avoid!

Extensive refurbishment since the business was taken over and restaurant is now more modern and efficient. It is still changing as they learn from experience as to what works best - which is fine and does show they are willing to adapt. We call in occasionally as it is local to us. Good selection of snacks and the cooked food is always very well done and seems cooked to order rather than sitting on hotplates as in some similar venues. What stops us using the place more often is that the coffee is not great, specifically not very strong. I'm aware this is a matter of taste but the coffee (best example is their flat white) often doesn't taste very much of coffee, just hot water and milk - they need to look at the settings they use I think. Four stars for their food but only one or two stars for their coffee (which is at least nice and hot),

Visited here with friend during october half term week at lunchtime. When we arrived spoke to someone at the bar who said to sit anywhere. After settling ourselves at a table we went up to order a carvery each, which has always been available in the past at lunchtimes during school holidays when we have come. Only to be told no carvery til the evening. For an establishment that is known predominantly for being a carvery to not be serving it at lunchtime especially as it was the school half term and pretty busy made no sense. Also we weren’t informed the carvery was not available when we arrived, neither was there a sign outside to inform customers. We checked on leaving. Just having the roasted meats out for the evening service must be wastful as on a midweek day I can’t imagine the footfall is much more than the daytime was on that day. Although only having the dearer menu options at lunchtime might be better for your business it’s not for the customer. A sandwich or jacket potato & topping nearly the same price as a small plate carvery is not good value at all! I was also disappointed that my email to yourselves was never responded to regarding no carvery available ( & gave you over a week to respond) so I have written a review for all to read instead!
