I don't think I've even been so frustrated watching someone cook- and you can see everything. Only us and one other table in but the man serving/cooking didn't seem able to run two tickets, hate to think of the wait when it's busy. Not helped by us being in a rush, each painful mutter of " now where did I put...." or going back to the board to check which 3 ingredients I'd asked for were starting to make me twitch. We had to wait for the previous table to be fully served before he started hunting for some chips for us. There is a good selection, although screwed up carrier bags and a stray pen in the cake display area would put me off! As did the other man who walked in mid- cook with his hair down, dominoes box in hand (hoping not a case of once bitten...) to just be in the way of the man already on his third lap looking for the tongs. Kitchen panto over the food was Ok, wee really didn't go for anything taxing as really wanted to get out quick. Beware the peas which actually come as a semi mushed minted tin variety. Extra mark as the man was a nice guy and food Ok - just woefully slow and unorganized.

For such a great location, I was very disappointed in the quality of food. It’s to be expected with the price, however I could only ask myself why? There is a local butcher less than 100m away! I highly recommend hiring an experienced professional chef you! To receive cold black pudding as soon as the plate is put down is shocking! I wouldnt expect that from a place so quiet... hopefully this little local will improve in the future but I definitely won’t be back until then.

Small basic cafe. Low prices and ok value for what u get. Breakfast is reasonable hot served on a warm plate. At this price point you are not going to get high end quality food. But the service is friendly and polite and one man was kept very busy catering for the customers.

Personal muy amable y servicial. Un montón de opciones para el desayuno. Yo pedí un pequeño desayuno y era más grande de lo que esperaba! El café estaba incluido, una ganga.

So it says on the window and inside is much more efficient friendly and better managed than on previous visits. There's now a fair bit of middling competition on Mutley Plain and this place is alright.

Visited this cafe about 3pm on a Wednesday afternoon. The staff were in the process of winding it down for the afternoon but they said it was no problem and continued to serve me. I ordered a cheese and tomato sandwich which came with a salad garnish and a choice of dressings. Very simple but extremely tasty and exactly what I wanted. There was a choice of cakes laid out of the counter, although I didn't have any of these, they all looked delicious. There was plenty of seating, and it was nice and bright. The man that served me couldn't have been more polite or helpful. Food was quick to be brought to my table. I would definitely visit again. A lovely Cafe. Very very reasonably priced.

My office used to go in here a lot with the previous owners was always quite efficient but I'm afraid it's gone very down hill, lack of options and very slow service and when I say slow I mean an 1 hour 45 minutes for a phone order which we were told would only take half an hour.

Good food and drink choices especially the pasties, combined with friendly staff and owner, will definitely be back!

Don't know what closed the previous business but it's replacement is a serious and earnest operation which although almost hidden by the public conveniences is keen to draw new and old customers. . Not much stock left mid afternoon when we called.

We’ve never been to a full on high street mega Harry Ramsden restaurant, only to what we presumed were branded franchise chip cafes at motorway service stations, most recently but still a decade or more ago at Exeter. The Plymouth/Devonport delivery only arrangement is I suppose one further down the ladder but it has all the regalia. We’d been gardening and drinking and this was the local delivery option with the least waiting time and an air of reliability. We could have but didn’t bother tracking but they arrived much quicker than expected. Tidy robust paper bag, no fancy insulation but the contents were still hot and there were surplus handfuls of salt finger and sauce sachets. (Much better than those places that wrap crisp fried stuff in plastic that leaves it all soggy and steamy when it arrives!). The fish was marginally dry and the coatings of the scampi a bit hardened but the meal wasn’t bad for what we paid. All these things are enhanced by copious amounts of decent ale and outdoor plonk.

We’ve been here a few times for a “quick coffee” and it’s always a bad experience. Usually I wouldn’t write a review but today we visited and the same bad service happened again. Loads of staff working & chatting behind tills, took no notice of us when we were waiting to be served. It was pretty empty at this point. It seems they’ve hired copious amounts of staff, so we couldn’t quite understand why the service was so slow. we ordered a croissant to go and waiting 5 minutes for someone to grab the croissant out of the front container. We asked two times for the croissant and rather than the staff going to get it, they would speak into their headsets… waiting for someone else to get it. Staff were miserable and slammed a plate down with it once they could be bothered to serve. Honestly worst Starbucks I’ve been to (a judgement I’ve made after multiple visits).

Placed an order at 7pm which should have been delivered at 8.20pm.. no show, tried calling but the phone is just ringing.. meal is all paid for but no idea where it is, awful service, such a shame as it was a decent takeaway for years, this is the first time in a while I’ve ordered, never again!!!

I ordered for delivery. When my food came it was all cold. The chips were hard and inedible even after being warmed in the oven. The onion rings were soggy. The meat on the burger was ok although cold. The bun was soggy. It was all very sad. I thought eating in might be better but after seeing other reviews I will pass.
