Cafe 1850 in Northampton

What an amazing festive afternoon tea. Richard and the team were very good and the service was excellent. This is the third time our family have been for the afternoon tea, each time has been perfect. Savoury and sweet, hand baked, delicious. Also an ideal place for a midweek treat. We will definitely be back.

I have been going to cafe 1850 since it opened. Rich and his team are so helpful and friendly. Nothing is too much bother for them and the customer service is second to none. He coffee is lovely with milk to suit! I particularly love the toasted tea cakes and caramel latte with oat milk! Great selection of breakfast/brunch. They are great with children and my son loved his hot chocolate today! Thanks again cafe 1850, well always be back!!

This was a difficult review. I would like firstly to say that the staff did comp our food so that should be mentioned as I think they realised we were disappointed. We arrived to a packed cafe and were lucky to get seated by 1120am. It was a nice bright cafe/restaurant with plently of chatter. Unfortunately our table hadn't been wiped clean and there were still wet coffee rings on the table. We ordered the drinks, granary tuna sandwich and the mature cheddar with onion chutney panino. Our drinks arrived quickly and have no complaints about that. After 40 mins our food hadn't arrived so we asked the waitress would it be long. It was our order had been forgotten by her face. After another 15 minutes the tuna sandwich arrived, but was on white bread not granary. When questioned the waitress said that we were happy with white or granary, which was not the case. She said the was no granary left. Fair enough. Then after a further 10 minutes my panino arrived. Honestly I was expecting a larger panino for 7.95. The panino was about 12cm x 8cm squashed flat to about a 1cm. It was also hotter then the the lava at mount etna! Once cooled slightly I took a bite to find the only taste was the onion chutney. Opening the panino there was no evidence of any cheese. I took it back and they said they would remake it. A further 10 minutes it arrived. Yes, it had more cheese, but certainly not what I would expect from a panino. I think at that point the staff realized and then refunded the food so that was postive. I think they were too busy and had started to run out of food items. Realistically they should of told us and we could of gone somewhere else. From what I saw of the food supplied to other customers it looked nice, but this wasn't the experience we had

I visited Cafe 1850 at the weekend with friends, and I’m always super-impressed by the team and the food. We were in a bit of a rush so we called up and pre-ordered, and this wasn’t a problem at all. The food was pretty much ready by the time we arrived, and it was served hot - something many places don’t do well. Not only that, but they were very accommodating with my food order. The menu isn’t massive but it changes regularly and they’ll always try and accommodate my needs. This weekend I couldn’t decide between the goats cheese panini or the ham panini (as I rarely go full veggie). Not a problem at all, when I called they said I can simply add ham…or I could add bacon if I wanted - SOLD! I loved the new outdoor area, but I think the best thing about this place is that the staff are consistently welcoming. Such a nice feeling when you go somewhere. Absolute 10 out of 10.

They took no notice of my review before, in fact used it as a chance to advertise, so I'll say again (after trying a few) - yummier cakes, please. They are pretty much as worthy as they look, not a treat. People in England don't generally go around complaining to your face so saying nobody has complained means nothing. Very nice place to be, particularly upstairs; very light and airy. Coffee is fine.

Well. Everything all under one roof. Good food and drinks, lovely atmosphere, clean and friendly environment, Politeness and courtesy is always appreciated.

For the 2nd year we had our breakfast with Santa here on Saturday 16th December. The staff were fantastic, good food and great entertainment with Rocking Ryan the elf. Kids loved meeting Santa and getting there personalised certificate for the good list and present we will definitely be back next year. Well done all

Well! Where do I start? I booked my son and my family onto the breakfast with Santa. I didn’t think it would top last year’s visit but it absolutely did! It was incredible! The buffet breakfast was spot on and there was something for everyone! Santa was the real Santa too I’m sure of it :). The presents were tailored to suit every child! Amazing amazing amazing!!! We will be back!!

Wonderful morning having breakfast with santa. This is our 2nd year, and we enjoyed it even more than last year. Breakfast was wonderful. Staff were helpful and friendly. Activities put on to entertain the children once they had eaten. Friendly and safe for even the very young. Will definitely go again next year

I found this place whilst on a trip to Northampton and I’m so glad I did! I booked my daughter onto breakfast with Santa and she had the greatest time! The buffet breakfast was exceptional, fantastic choice of pastries, hot breakfast, cereal and fruits. The children’s entertainment was 1st class and really made the atmosphere for all the families magical. The staff were happy and friendly all getting into the Christmas spirit. I even asked if I could book on again next year and make the 250 mile trip from up north just for this occasion as my daughter loved it that much! Huge thank you to all involved!

Had a great lunch at Cafe 1850 today. Really delicious coffee that was hot, strong and really tasty, beans come from local roaster Yellow Bourbon coffee. My sandwich, which was from the new festive menu, was delicious, Brie and bacon with chili jam. The service was friendly and fast and the cafe was clean, comfortable and cosy and warm. Oh and it smelled delicious when we walked in and had a great range of cakes on offer. Add to that a book swapping library and who could ask for more! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love a recommendation but am always alittle apprehensive incase it's not to my taste. I had no need to be with this café. Such a pretty venue with a warm welcome and smiles from its staff. A lovely upstairs area too where I sat and enjoyed a delicious hazlenut mocha and panini. Set back from the busy road it was quiet and had such a lovely atmosphere from those who came in. Great value for money and menu choice. I will be back and am sure pass on my recommendation! Thank-you!

The coffee is pretty good, service is generally good. They lose a point because the cakes are so worthy looking I just don't fancy them at all. In my book, cakes aren't there to be good for you, they're there to be yummy.

Consistently amazing place to go, you feel so relaxed, welcomed and at ease. Highly recommended and well presented food that tastes fantastic. 10/10

A delicious quiche with salad good portion on the plate. Highly recommend cafe1850 for a light lunch or Judy coffee and homemade cake. Also there is the opportunity to have a full English breakfast or bacon butty. Friendly welcome awaits you. Thank you to Richard also hard working team.

Decided to call in for impromptu lunch. Great service as always. Sat in the sunshine in the rear of the cafe, overlooking the beautiful garden. A lovely place to sit and contemplate, read ot chat with friends.

Thank you very much to Richard and the whole team. So pleased that I stumbled upon this stunning cafe. A wonderful peaceful setting, we were so lucky with the weather and were able to enjoy the lovely garden. Service was fantastic, food was amazing. Delicious fresh cakes and savouries. Plenty to go round with a few to bring home and enjoy! Booking ahead was so easy and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. We have all said we will return... I certainly will do many times!

I’ve heard a lot about this cafe and was very excited to pay a visit. I was certainly not disappointed. It’s a beautiful and calm environment. The food and service is excellent. I enjoyed a full English breakfast which arrived perfectly. My husband had scrabbled eggs on toast which looked and tasted delicious. The food and accompanying coffee could not be faulted. This place is to be thoroughly recommended. An oasis of calm for an unhurried experience. The menus for lunch and cake looked amazing. I’ll be making a return visit very soon

This was a sudden decision born of necessity, but how delightful. The very friendly and personable manageress was super efficient and nothing too much trouble, making paninis to our requirements and lovely coffees. The afternoon tea being taken to a booked party upstairs looked amazing.

If you do nothing else in 2022 give Cafe 1850 a visit and order a luxurious Giddy Fiddy. Served with a very warm expert welcome. The brand new cafe is tucked away next to the cathedral and is an asset to the local area.
