We have regularly visited the cabin over some 15 years and sadly the latest reincarnation of this pleasant cafe appears to have given up on any kind of customer service, visiting this weekend we politely stood beside the sign asking us to wait to be seated and three members of staff ignored us for 5 minutes, we looked into the dining area where a few guests were surrounded by uncleared tables. We left having been ignored for another couple of minutes and visited another establishment which was equally disinterested telling us they had no drink or food..... Sadly 40 years ago when I sailed regularly at Burnham week and evening racing we always had troubles with aggressive locals, although we only live a few miles away, it would appear the people of Burnham really don't want visitors to support their businesses. I would suggest if you want to walk by the river and get lunch or afternoon tea, go to Maldon they are far more welcoming.

It was just hmm, not a good review or bad just mediocre. I wouldn’t go back again, owners are non plussed and don’t want to be here. Very obvious they want to sell and are going through the motions with customers. Shame as it could be so much better

Dreadful waited with another lady for an ice cream for about 15 mins then when we were seen to were told it will be a long wait I’m doing food !!!! So rude totally not bothered we had already been waiting ages, if they were short staffed why did they not close the ice cream windows rather than let people queue for ages then when they get there just tell them there will be a wait so rude, my last visit there, thankfully there are other more welcoming cafes

This place is to be avoided. No soap or towels in the toilet. Service incredibly slow. Had to go and ask for cutlery and was stroppily told we should have asked for it earlier. Really????? 2 meals came out and we were thinking our cutlery would have come out with the next 2 meals. Ours going cold by the time that happened! 2 of our group had the cottage pie which was absolutely appalling. The flavour was nice for a TINY portion of sloppy mince with hardly any potato on top. Frozen mixed vegetable which was under cooked and inedible. The tea was cheap tea bags. When the poor meal was mentioned to the manager she was extremely rude and smirking. When told there would be a bad review on Trip Advisor she just said “that’s up to you” with a shrug and another smirk! Never ever would we go there again

Visited yesterday - food was good, there was a bit of a wait but that was OK as we weren't in a hurry. When I went up to pay I went to the till and was ignored by the staff who were preparing an order. When I finally caught their eye, a young girl snapped at me saying they were very busy and I would have to wait! Unusual to be told this when you go up to pay, and the way she said it tells me she should have some customer service lessons, as it doesn't make me want to go back there.

Four of us decided to go to the Cabin Dairy for breakfast this morning, since the other breakfast cafe on the riverfront wasn't serving food that day. I've eaten there before, but not for several years, but had always found it to be a pretty good place to eat. This time rather less so! The staff member who seated us warned that there would be a 30-minute wait for food, but we accepted this and sat down. 20 minutes later, someone came to take our order, warning it was likely to be as much as an hour before the food arrived. Reluctantly, we accepted this and placed our order. Our drinks arrived about 30 minutes later and the food finally showed up about 25 minutes after that - except only three or the four meals arrived! The four person waited about ten minutes, but still no food, so went to ask about it. He was told they were very sorry, but he' d have to wait another 20-30 minutes for his food - no other explanation. By the time it arrived, we had finished our food and even then they didn't quite get his order right! The waitress was reasonably apologetic, claiming they had has a lot of takeaway orders to process (by this time the cafe itself was practically empty) and offered a free coffee to our friend who had had to wait. The place didn't appear unusually busy and there seemed to be six or seven people working there, so I can only put it down to extremely poor organisation. The food itself was fine - nothing special, considering the price - but OK. It was the lack of organisation and the fact we were constantly kept waiting with no explanation that was so annoying. It never used to be like this! Slow service is one thing - forgetting people's orders and then when they do arrive, getting them wrong is completely unacceptable. If we had known the service would be this poor, we would have gone elsewhere. As it is, I am extremely unlikely to darken their doors again!

Went to the cafe on a cold winter afternoon after a walk around Burnham. It was so cosy and the Christmas decorations were delightful! The lady greeted us with the biggest and most welcoming smile. She explained there was no food currently being served (they were preparing for the Burham lights) but we were welcome for a drink. Ended up with a hot chocolate - so many flavours if you fancied it including chocolate orange and gingerbread! While we were there looked through the menu and was amazed at the huge range of food. Breakfasts, lunches including panini's, soups. dinners like ham, egg and chips. I shall have to return! On the way out I spotted a range of Christmas themed cupcakes and brownies that looked amazing too.

I live very near the Cabin Dairy and only eat out when I’m away from home or in the evening, so hadn’t had an excuse to try the food before. Then my birthday arrived just after lockdown eased. My (grown up) kids were coming for lunch and I didn’t fancy cooking so this was the perfect opportunity to try the delicious looking burgers I’ve seen posted on social media since Becca and Kelvin took over a couple of years back. My expectations were running high. I picked the food up at the time we’d arranged and took it home. There are two fussy eaters and we all take our food seriously. We opened the cardboard serving boxes and....everything was absolutely perfect. All five orders were exactly right, no bacon here, no onions there, mushrooms on another. It was one of the best burgers I’ve eaten (Classic with added mushrooms). Now I understand why they are so popular! It’s not just good food but lovely service. So often somewhere gets one right but not the other (or worse gets both wrong) but everything was absolutely first class. Portions were generous but not a scrap was left. I’m now desperately searching for another excuse to let the Cabin Dairy cook for me! Highly recommended. PS they do great ice cream too if you’re having a walk round town!

Not only was I disappointed by my visit with my opinion being the menu was over priced for a very standard lunch I had vowed I would try again another time incase it was so bad due to having an off day (despite whoever served me looking like she would rather be else where and hated her job) and keep up to date on social media. However it seems the owner is vicious bully/troll. After being left a 1* review on Facebook after a man was abused by staff and or owner, the owner then shared this review and encouraged their following to harass and abuse this man. Even making comments such as "now he is threatening us" followed by a screen shot stating he had not sat down and if the harassment towards him continued, he would leave another review. Threat? I don't believe so. All these people commented on him sitting himself down at benches they own. Benches they have photos of on their Facebook all stacked and taped up so I feel it was definitely impossible for that to have happened. Upon investigation, the menu prices have increased again since my visit. A fry up is now £9 without even a drink! And as I say it's very bob standard cafe food with a barely cooked snotty egg is what I received for my over priced lunch on my visit. If you have time like I do, to scroll down you can also see past posts about being reported for breaching covid rules and how the council had been investigating the cafe and guilty of this accusation or not, I found it highly unprofessional writing a large post about how he/she had been reported due to "jealousy and spite" when in the reshared 1* review they clearly had people saying they would come from places such as westcliff to visit. This breaches the rules does it not? As i did not think you could travel that far for a take out! Its just not what I expect from a grown adult attempting to run a business. Such a shame as if this owner had any sense they would give up and leave it to the several other amazing and friendly establishment's in the area.

A narrow corridor leading to a couple of comfortable seating areas. Design (build) your own breakfast from the list of items on offer. I like that they offer Burnham sausages and bacon. The staff were all fairly young, but the way one waitress dealt with an elderly customer with memory difficulties was really heartwarming. The coffee was really good, the mugs of tea should really be served with the milk seperately (mine was too milky) but overall, the breakfast was excellent. There is room for improvement, but I'd definitely go again.

Called in for brunch whilst on a flying visit to Burnham. The Cabin Dairy is in a great position close to the sea wall. It is also a very popular place for bikers at the weekend. The young waitresses were very pleasant and the food was ok. The building is very old and you won;t be able to get up the narrow stairs to the toilet if you have mobility problems. There is however a public loo not far away.

A lovely, friendly place to just drop in, have a chat and enjoy a cuppa/cake/breakfast at leisure. Virtually on the River Crouch

Oh! what has happened to the Cabin Dairy? used to be a great place to have a tea or coffee and a slice of cake but the price of the cakes has shot up by more than a £1 the last time we went in there waited so long to get served that we walked out the staff were doing other menial tasks and talking, sorry you can't run a business like that customers first, they need to pull their socks up otherwise business will drop, and it is in a very good position so come on get it sorted..............

Visited today for a quick snack as most other places really crowded and only a couple of people here. Staff very polite. The sandwich ordered was only ok. Plonked onto a plate, no side salad or crisps. Sausages were tasty but the bread very thick and a bit dry. Decor very dull, table sticky and floor grubby. Not sure if the ceiling tiles are a fire hazard! If the decoration was more modern and fresh it could be a cool place but it is very drab. I really hate to be negative and do not think I would return, especially when other places in Burnham have more character and the food much better.

So disappointing. The service was incredibly slow - an hour for sandwiches, the coffee we ordered was forgotten about and even after asking where they were took another 20 mins. The sandwiches were not very inspiring. We ordered roast beef and turkey with stuffing. The bread was similar to that which you would get in a plastic bag on a supermarket shelf, the fillings were not very good quality either. The staff seemed to be young and inexperienced but they were pleasant and friendly. Sadly we have been suffering from abdominal cramps and diarrhoea since our visit. If you look at my previous reviews they have been very good and I am not prone to complaining but will not be coming back again

have visited for my Nan's birthday lunch twice now. both times staff were great - 2nd time they didn't have the prawn and avocado sandwiches on the menu, but still rustled one up for nan as it is her favourite. Nice coffees. Plus i loved seeing that bikers are welcome there & it is popular with them on the weekends. Used to stop here as a kid with my grandad when i was a kid after a walk on the quayside and have a mega knickerbocker glory ice cream. fond memories both old & new of this place.

Service with a Smile..best Breakfast locally by a mile... this lovely place all cosy and by the River Crouch is just the venue for a real Breakfast experience, from Eggs on Toast to a Full Monty they know how to feed their customers. They also do takeaway as well. Seating inside and outside weather permitting...inside with a warm welcome and fire and the buzz of a busy but unique eating establishment... not just for Breakfast but Lunch too and afternoon tea, a great place to meet friends, staff and family. We have enjoyed many a visit here lately... just all round great value, service, and plenty of food on the plates. Excellent.

Really popular with bikers on a weekend. Right by the sea it's a great place to eat. Nice traditional food and drinks, seven with a smile. Does get busy on sunny dry days with blokes in leathers!

Visited on a very cold day in February and enjoyed a lovely lunch. The menu has plenty of choice for a small cafe and the food is reasonably priced and good quality. We enjoyed a range of dishes and all of them were tasty. The cafe was busy when we visited and one of my party had to wait for their meal for about 5 minutes after the rest of us were served, but otherwise service was good and staff helpful. The cafe is quite cramped and there is no where for push chairs, and if you visit on a cold day try and get a table away from the door. I was subjected to a cold draught every time the door opened and customers failed to close it behind them.Accessiblity is a problem for customers with mobilty difficulties as there are steps and passage ways are narrow. The toilets are up very steep stairs too which may make this venue unsuitable for some. They serve a good flat white coffee.

Walking along the High Street on a chilly lunchtime, we saw an A board advertising hot soup so we went in. It was the Cabin Dairy where a café has been created from a small Essex weatherboarded cottage. The small rooms probably seated about 3 dozen when all tables were taken. There was a takeaway counter at the front of the place and outside by the war memorial was space for more tables and chairs when the weather was warmer. We had our soup and roll and tea and it was all quite satisfactory. The menu offered standard café fare at quite modest prices. It also warned that everything was freshly cooked to order so there could be some waiting time before a meal arrived. Does breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea. The toilet was spotlessly clean but up a steep flight of stairs, typical of fishermen's small cottages. No cards taken.

As much as we love the food here it is obvious that the management do not read the reviews on here. We understand that there is a waiting time as food is cooked fresh to order but today was a joke. Over an hour for one breakfast and one sandwich. The staff still do not make you feel at all welcome and when my husband asked for water he was given a warm bottle without a glass. The bread to accompany his breakfast was stale. The manager didn't even offer us free drinks as we had to wait so long for our food we finished them an hour before we got our food. The staff really do need to make an effort and we have decided to longer come here and to stick to the parlour cafe as at least there they do greet you with a warm welcome.

Friendly staff reasonable prices would recommend. Think next time we'll order one and split it

We haven't been to the Cabin Dairy for some while, the good thing is that nothing has changed, it is still a quaint building. Service is very good, staff welcome you with a smile, menu and prices are still very good. You may have to wait but that said its worth it as food is cooked fresh and tastes excellent. If you like you can also sit outside in a relaxed atmosphere. All in all very nice.

This place is going down hill, clearly relying on the bikers who use this place. The service use to be excellent but it seem the staff / owners are lazy. You have to place your order in side, then collect drinks and even condiments from the ice cream hatch. They even made a pensioner collect his own tea...shocking. Good food although a little expensive, I expect a hot drink to be included in their breakfast prices. PS we even had to put up own table and chair...owners start making an effort, there are better alternatives
