Following the enthusiastic recommendations from both word of mouth and online critiques, I was keen to make my visit. The premises were immaculate and orderly. The team was welcoming and appeared happy, and I was pleased to find ample street parking, especially appreciating that it wasn't situated on a main road. Nonetheless, upon ordering, I discovered the absence of hake and plaice from the menu, which I was told was attributed to the season. I hoped to sample haddock, cod, hake, and plaice for comparison, yet this omission did not dampen my spirits. My order comprised haddock, cod, a large portion of chips, a cheese savoury, scampi, a meat pie, tartare sauce, and mushy peas. The peas stood out as exceptional, the tartare sauce was satisfactory, albeit slightly too acidic, and the cod and haddock fillets were enjoyable. However, their batter would have benefited from a tad longer in the fryer. Like the fish, the batter of the cheese savoury was undercooked, failing to hold its contents together when handling, despite that, the savoury being extra tasty, received an "Oh!" from me. Overall, the establishment and staff were commendable, and the food was tasty, although I feel it was rushed out and would have benefitted from a little longer cooking time. We order fish here and it was fresh and very tasty.we enjoyed here just service was little late for order but it was ok because we enjoyed our food.

Let's start with the not so good. I was ignored when I walked in because the staff were talking amongst themselves. But now the good. The fish was faultless, an excellent fillet cooked perfectly down to the last second, the batter was crispy and the chips and peas were also spot on.

Visited the shop in Stuart Rd today. (The other shop has closed which is no surprise .) It was awful. The service was painfully slow with a queue out the door. This queue was not caused by the number of customers but by how slow and inefficient the staff are. Its a tiny pokey little shop located at the junction of 2 grim and dimly lit back streets. Be careful where you park your car. If this is one of the best chippies in Liverpool I would hate to see the worst. Ordered haddock and chips and a portion of plaice only to be told we got no plaice.So I said I'll have cod instead of the plaice. Guy said OK. Some 15 minutes later I got to where you pay only to be told THEN that we have no haddock. Why did the guy not tell me when taking my order that they had no haddock either. They had no salmon, no haddock, no plaice all of which is advertised on the wall . I was gobsmacked to hear this . Its like the pub with no beer but this is the chippy with no fish. The cod we both ended up having instead of what we went for was average as were the chips. I can't recommend this place. I can't understand why it has many good reviews you can't be used to much. Avoid this place at all costs. Its not all its cracked up to be. They need to invest in some quality well spoken staff for a start. My god I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Is it any wonder the other shop cl Very poor effort. I won't be rushing back. Their opening times are ludicrous as well. Avoid for that alone. My earlier review was the Muirhead ave shop. This review is for the Stuart Rd branch. Both have similar 🐌 service, poor staff, disorganised ordering and average food. It certainly is NOT a good chippy. They don't know what good service is. It starts with having some fish in stock. It's not rocket science to stock what you claim to sell. They are indifferent to wasting people's time by queuing up for twenty minutes only to be told then we don't have what you ordered.

The fish was ok, a little wet although the batter was quite greasy. I did not enjoy the chips, they were chunky, undercooked, soggy, tasteless and went to mush.

Been here many times but just recently something has changed, the chips taste awful. We threw them away two weeks on the run. The fish was still good but the chips were inedible.

Ordered 6 fish, chips and peas last night for some Finnish people that wanted to try English fish and chips. Ordered for 6.30pm pick up, all ready when we went to pick up. All I can say is WOW, all 6 people were so impressed by the freshness and quality of their food and empty plates all round! For the fish loving Finns to be impressed takes some doing! Well done Byrne’s you surpassed all expectations. Thank you.

Went last week and had our normal cheese savoury and chips. Excellent as usual. Can't understand people who just post poor reviews (as in 11 out of 11 ) you must go to places where you have been happy? Again a queue outside - can all these customers be wrong? I've been going for years, have tasted everything - except curry - on menu and never had a thing to complain about.

If you cant make it to Whitby, Scarborough or any other Yorkshire town for proper fish and chips..go to Byrnes; which aside from the other side of the moors..does without a doubt the best fish and chips ive ever had. Huge portions, massive tasty fish...

Hadn't planned to go but I was sick of cooking etc in preparation for Christmas. Three of us shared fish and large chips. Absolutely delicious. The chips were browner than usual the way I like them. Fish beautiful. Staff are always friendly. Good prices too.

Lovely fish and chips as usual. We went to the Muirhead Avenue shop. All cooked as you wait. This shop is open I think from lunch time onwards. At teatime it gets very busy as you might expect from a popular chippie.

Mientras visitábamos Liverpool desde Leeds ayer, decidimos una cena familiar de pescado y papas fritas antes de viajar a casa. Las calificaciones de los asesores de viajes de confianza nos llevaron a Byrnes. ¡Qué hallazgo! El personal fue excelente, muy amable y bien organizado. El pescado y las patatas fritas eran frescos, cocinados a la perfección, la masa era insuperable. Ce restaurant est situé sur les docks de Liverpool, sur Albert Dock pour être plus précis. L'accueil y est chaleureux et local, l'accent scouse étant au rendez-vous! Un bon endroit pour y prendre un fish and chips en famille. Déco très sommaire mais c'est propre et lumineux.

Visited here 3 times over the past few years when I am in the area, get the same thing Fish and Chips everytime, and each time it is high quality fish in the best batter and chips cooked to perfection. I get fish and chips in every chippy I frequent and some get it right and some dont but Byrnes maintain the standard everytime.

Have been dying to try this new chippy on Muirhead Avenue heard so many positive reviews, queues always out of the door so was surprised when my daughter phoned me on her way home from work to say there wasn’t a massive queue and did I want her to stop, yes!! It was a really hot day and that is the only reason we think the queue was smaller. Well wasn’t disappointed went for the cod with little batter has to be the best fish I’ve had in years omg can’t wait to try it again. Spoilt for choice as the cook them in so many ways ( battered, poached floured, and in bread crumbs) will be trying the plaice next time, huge portions too would definitely recommend. The only criticism I have is the opening hours closes early 7.00 and only open Monday- Friday.

Although it was raining, the queue was out of the door when we joined the end. We had passed many times seeing this sight repeatedly and decided to try it. We were not disappointed. We tried the fish, the fishcake, chips and mushy peas which were excellent. The staff were attentive but seemed tired and needed more staff to cater for the hungry line of customers. Perhaps a number system like mcdonalds might work as people just wanting a portion of chips could be served more quickly and the queue could reduce faster. We definitely would recommend it.

Recientemente decidí probar byrnes en sus nuevas instalaciones en Muirhead Avenue después de leer todas las buenas críticas en los medios locales y en línea, y fue una gran decepción. En primer lugar, el punto positivo que tuve fue el abadejo, que era muy grande y era mejor que cualquier otro pescado que haya tenido en Liverpool y que estaba bien preparado. Sur les docks, ce "fish and chips" a beaucoup de succès et il peut y avoir une longue file d'attente. Passage obligé pour la clientèle anglaise, c'est une institution locale. Le poisson est frais, pané et cuit à la minute, les frites sont maisons, pour les amateurs, bonne sauce au curry servie à part. Une excellente étape pour souffler entre deux visites des beaux musées et sites autour.

Mucha gente me ha dicho lo bueno que es este lugar y hoy fue mi primera visita. Fue tan bueno como la gente me dijo. El bacalao fue ligeramente batido a la perfección y las patatas fritas eran excelentes. Ofrecen bacalao, eglefino, platija o merluza, por lo que es una muy buena selección. La tienda está impecablemente limpia y el personal es amable, hay que decir que este es tan bueno como se pone.

On a whim hubby and I decided to turn a grey rainy day into a little jolly out for a fish and chips dinner to Byrnes Fish and Chips. We'd heard from many people that the chippy was worth the trip across the city. And it so was! The chips were cooked to perfection and the fish was crispy, light and plentiful. Not the greasy mess you get from most chip shops. We parked up and munched our dinner in the car with cutlery we brought from home so we could enjoy it hot. The place is clean and the fish is made to order, not sitting out under a lamp. Worth the wait and the drive!

Brother in law recommended this place as he often pops in and said how fresh and tasty it is here. We gave it a whirl and can honestly say it was worth driving to for flavoursome fresh lightly battered cod and fresh fluffy chunky chips. Bit of a wait as its cooked from fresh but so worth it!

The best fruity curry sauce you’ll eat. Portion size very generous and the cod was gorgeous. Highly recommend and will be visiting again!!

an outstanding chippy this and definitely one of a kind. whilst by most standards it's as traditional as it gets they also do stuff I've never seen in any other takeaway, anywhere. I've eaten here several times previously, popping in for a treat when passing, it being quite along way from my home.

A family run chip shop and such a nice friendly family they are ,all orders are cooked when you order so nice and fresh the whole place is spotless couldn’t recommend this place highly enough should be Chippy of the year in my eyes

Siempre comprar nuestro pescado y patatas fritas desde aquí. No he encontrado muchas buenas en Liverpool, así que es bueno tener uno cerca de donde vivimos. El personal era amable.

Fuimos allí para una comida familiar para el té. Tuvimos que esperar media hora para que nos sirvieran, pero valió la pena esperar. Los peces eran preciosas y patatas fritas y salsa de curry guisantes blandos eran increíbles. Un sitio fantástico para una comida para llevar té en familia.

We had a nice dinner here after a visit to the Maritime Museum. The chips were probably some of the nicest I have every had. The fish was just average and a little on the greasy side.

Can always rely on Byrnes for a good chippy, everything's always fresh and it's constantly busy but they fly through the queues. All the staff are so friendly and unnecessarily kind, and it really goes a long way . They learn their regulars names and always say bye and thanks to every customer who walks out of their door and I reckon it it shows their care and attention to making customers happy. Maybe that's why everyone knows Byrnes is the best chippy in Liverpool.

Food was freshly cooked to order and was the best fish and chips i have ever tasted, the batter was beautiful and the fish perfectly cooked. Gutted the place has such limited opening times (Mon - Fri) as i would make a regular visit on match days it is that good. Can't wait for next season and midweek matches so i can go here again!

I visited this Fantastic Chippy for the 1st time in over 20yrs on Friday 06/05/17. I grew up at 46 Stuart Rd and spent many a time queuing up for Fish & chips for the family and Tripe for my nana (didn't see it on the menu so assuming they don't sell it anymore). I was not disappointed on my return the Fish was lightly battered and the chips were not covered in grease,they both tasted Fantastic (I think everything is cooked in dripping) Every thing was cooked to order so the fish was really fresh and hot This took me back to my childhood and I could not fault it. My partner could now understand why, I have been going on at her about Byrne's chippy over the yearrs being the Best. She was amazed that people queued up for over half 'n' hour to get served at this tiny Gem of a chip shop. They don't open at weekends as they are busy enough during the week and on match days there would be trouble trying to find somewhere to park to get to this chippy...All in all a great time was had and topped off by the Fantastic food served here...Thanks to all those involved in making Byrnes chippy what it is.. I will now make sure it wont be too long before we visit again, and if any of my friends are heading to the pool for a weekend I'll make sure I point them in the direction of Byrne's....

A bit off the beaten track but we'll worth a visit. The chips are just like home made and the fish is to die for. The menu gives a selection of fish including hake which you rarely see these days except in Spain. 5 stars without a doubt.

I travelled to Liverpool to meet my friend Tony who was looking for some advice and we ended up popping in here for a bite. I had the steak & kidney pie, chips and can of Dr Pepper combo (my usual) while Tony went for Large haddock, large chips, curry sauce, 2 Pickled eggs - he's bulking up right now.I was impressed with the fare on offer, my meal was top notch. Finding good fish and chips in Liverpool is a challenge.I know what good fish and chips taste like. The batter should be crisp and light. The fish should be fresh, moist and not overcooked. The chips should be golden and crisp, using the correct potatoes, not soggy. The one that kept coming up in my search was Byrne's in Stuart Road, Walton. This is about 4 miles from our house.At 6.30pm we got in the car and set the sat nav. Off we went down Queens Drive towards Breeze Hill and we found this chippy on the corner of a street off Stuart Road.This is a family run business handed down from parents to the next generation and well thought of in the local and wider community. The woman in the queue in front of me who was buying a fried chicken breast to have with salad has been a customer for fifty years!The shop was very clean with a frying range of stainless steel. The menu board predominantly featured fish, cod, hake, haddock, plaice, salmon, scampi, fishcakes and fish fingers. Chips came in portions that were small and large and potato scallops were available.Service was speedy. Master fish fryer was battering and frying the fish orders which were taken as each customer joined the queue. Two women were scooping chips, salting and lingering, and wrapping items in white paper and packing into sturdy Brown paper carriages with handles. Good teamwork was evident.I ordered plaice initially, but as there was no plaice made a second choice. My order then was :2 haddock2 small chips1 scampi2 small peas1 small plain curry sauce1 fruity curry sauceThe total cost was just over £15.They were good and hit the spot. Of course they didn't improve on the journey back home, but worth the drive. Maybe next time, with a nice flask of tea on a sunny evening we might eat them in the car in Stuart Road.

Spotlessly clean and very friendly staff. First time I have been when there hasn't been a massive queue but it was only 4.30 after all.Always fresh and cooked to order. Fabulous stuff.

You have to try it here. I've been about 7/8 times and we have a 20 minute drive to get there. Queue is always out the door it is that good. I recommend the fishwich>
