The smallest portion of chips I have ever seen. Won't return.

I can be quite critical but this place is outstanding

Always excellent and still the undisputed heavyweight champion chippy of the city! great service and even better fish and chips. Just don't try going on a weekend or after 7pm or with the intention of ordering a Chinese! 😉

I've heard so many good things about Byrnes but I've not been for over 40 years. Not disappointed. Great chips, fluffy, not greasy at all. Fish is huge, thin crisp tasty batter. First class.

Located by Breeze Hill. Close to many communities, also easy to find by car. Small chip shop, ordered here by mistake via phone, so when I put the location in the GPS I was surprised 😃 Expensive. £12.50 for a portion of fish and chips and curry. However, tastes great, fresh and real fish! So I would say it is worth the price! Street parking available nearby, so easy to collect the food. That’s all. Give them a chance if you like my photos of the food…

Haven't been here since before lockdown so decided to go because driving past. Thought the prices had gone through the roof 12.50 for a fish dinner! Think a lot of people think the same because they used to be queuing out the door wasn't when I went.

The finest fish and chips on Merseyside. Have been visiting this little gem for over 25 years and the quality of the food has always been first class. A 4th generation chippy 93 years and still going strong. I'd give it 6 stars if I could. Their fish is delivered fresh every day from a supplier from Fleetwood so the fish your eating was only caught the night before

Been coming here since my high school days. Always good food and the family who run the chippy always good to get along with, just don't ask them about football!!!

Following the enthusiastic recommendations from both word of mouth and online critiques, I was keen to make my visit. The premises were immaculate and orderly. The team was welcoming and appeared happy, and I was pleased to find ample street parking, especially appreciating that it wasn't situated on a main road. Nonetheless, upon ordering, I discovered the absence of hake and plaice from the menu, which I was told was attributed to the season. I hoped to sample haddock, cod, hake, and plaice for comparison, yet this omission did not dampen my spirits. My order comprised haddock, cod, a large portion of chips, a cheese savoury, scampi, a meat pie, tartare sauce, and mushy peas. The peas stood out as exceptional, the tartare sauce was satisfactory, albeit slightly too acidic, and the cod and haddock fillets were enjoyable. However, their batter would have benefited from a tad longer in the fryer. Like the fish, the batter of the cheese savoury was undercooked, failing to hold its contents together when handling, despite that, the savoury being extra tasty, received an "Oh!" from me. Overall, the establishment and staff were commendable, and the food was tasty, although I feel it was rushed out and would have benefitted from a little longer cooking time. Cracking Chippy, stopped by this place on the way home after a day out. The fish and chips were really good, beat I had in a long time. Staff were very friendly, gave us a double take when we ordered due to our Manchester accents😀Also recommend Marine Lake, Crosby to go and eat you F&C it’s about 2 miles away, food was still piping hot.

As always, delicious, freshly prepared food, served with a smile. No wonder we love to go back. Can't be beaten on taste or service. I haven't sampled the whole menu but all I've tried is great. Fishcakes are the very best - freshly prepared on request. Great old-fashioned delight.

Been there today. It was awful. The service was painfully slow with a queue out the door. This queue was not caused by the number of customers but by how slow and inefficient the staff are. Its a tiny pokey little shop located at the junction of 2 grim and dimly lit back streets. Be careful where you park your car. If this is one of the best chippies in Liverpool I would hate to see the worst. Ordered haddock and chips and a portion of plaice only to be told we got no plaice.So I said I'll have cod instead of the plaice. Guy said OK. Some 15 minutes later I got to where you pay only to be told THEN that we have no haddock. Why did the guy not tell me when taking my order that they had no haddock either. They had no salmon, no haddock, no plaice all of which is advertised on the wall . I was gobsmacked to hear this . Its like the pub with no beer but this is the chippy with no fish. The cod we both ended up having instead of what we went for was average as were the chips. I can't recommend this place. I can't understand why it has many good reviews you can't be used to much. Avoid this place at all costs. Its not all its cracked up to be. They need to invest in some quality well spoken staff for a start. My god I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Is it any wonder the other shop cl Very poor effort. I won't be rushing back. Their opening times are ludicrous as well. Avoid for that alone. My earlier review was for the then open Muirhead Ave shop. This review is for the Stuart Rd branch. Both have similar 🐌 service, poor staff, disorganised ordering and average food. It certainly is NOT a good chippy. They don't know what good service is. It starts with having some fish in stock. It's not rocket science to stock what you claim to sell. They are indifferent to wasting people's time by queuing up for twenty minutes only to be told then we don't have what you ordered. Avoid for gods sake and leave it to the deluded locals who think it's a good chippy. It's far from good unfortunately.

The best fish chips fishcakes in the whole area. I have been going there for 48 years and my dad has been going since it opened and we have never had a bad meal or experience from there. If you've never tried it you don't know what your missing out on. I drive 9 mile to go here but its worth it.

Finally found a fish and chips that just dose what you expect to find at a chippy. Liverpool chippys just have to much going on on the menu this spot is perfect went for the cod chips and the savoury cheese and onion. fish was perfect and decent size the chips lovely size and cooked to perfection and that savoury oh my wow delicious all round atmosphere friendly, welcoming food cooked to order the queue was outside the door even in the rain loved it il be back

Clean food, clean shop and very good customer service. Me and my partner had it last night it was a real treat. The batter is crispy. The fish is fresh. The wait might be 5-10 minutes as you are not the only one there at any given moment, everyone seems to love this place. There is always other people waiting to enjoy byrnes lovely fish too, the line started outside and within a few minutes we was asked what we wanted and served. Given how nice the food is. The price is also good too compared to london prices where we are from. Overall really enjoyed it and will be going back tonight.

Simply, one of the best fish & chip shops in the world, it's been there for four generations - so they have to be doing something right. In the heart of the community, you'll get a friendly welcome from the moment you arrive to order, and then - as it's usually busy - while you wait, you may well find yourself getting caught up in various conversations going on about topical issues. The portions are large and good value for money and tastes great - takeaway only though.

Having visited our daughter at Liverpool university, we came across Byrnes Fish and chip shop..OMG the best cod and chips me and my wife have had ever, batter not thick or greasy, cod thick and meaty and chips to die for!!!, my daughter had cheesie chips and had the cheese and onion pie, better than being by the seaside, great value a must to visit when in liverpool, served by friendly staff too. We definitely will be coming back, worth the 3 1/2 hour drive.

WOW WOW... SIMPLY THE BEST FISH & CHIPS I'VE HAD FOR AT LEAST 30 YEARS. We have decided that everytime we travel to Liverpool we will come here for our dinner or tea. The food last night was OUTSTANDING. I cannot remember the last time that any chippy has come anywhere near this in terms of quality.

Avoid. Service is appalling. The main problem with this place is its weird opening times. The last 3 times I've tried to go there it was closed. Just been again today Thursday at 6 pm. It was closed again. But the website says open till 7. It wasn't. If these people can't serve their customers properly by opening at convenient times then frankly they don't deserve your custom. They are wasting your time by having you drive down there only to find the place in darkness despite their website saying its open. Definitely not recommended. Edit. There was a response from the owners saying we are closed over the Christmas period. Why not put this on your website and stop wasting people's time. How about a new years resolution to open at times that people would reasonably expect a chippy to be open. You are not that good. As before my recommendation is to give this place a wide berth. Enjoy your Christmas break. Sorry I never got to to sample the food here as I could never find the place open. Tells you it all. Arrogant management and poor service.

Went here back in September. We were here as tourists and read about Byrne’s being the best and they absolutely live up to that. I’ve never liked fish and chips (I’m from the USA) and this blew my mind. It’s been almost four months and I still think about the fish. Not my favorite style of chips, but that’s just personal preference, though that fish was *next level*. The staff were very kind to us and patient with us as we struggled with the Liverpool accent, and we’re very grateful for that. Shoutout to Anna and the neighborhood kids. You all are adorable! <3

Jumbo portions and fresh fish. Made to order but is worth the wait. Its a takeaway place but I would recommend to eat it straightaway and enjoy the fish (haddock in our case) at its best!

We travel from hunts cross to visit Byrne's on a now and again basis. They are easily among the best chips I've experienced in Liverpool. I'd advise getting there around opening time because it does get very busy.

This is by far the best chippy I've been to. Fried Fish? excellent, chips? warm and tasty, value for money? yes. They do a cheese savory, naughty but nice. Friendly staff, obviously well versed in the fish n chips game and very reasonable prices.
