Butterwick Bakery Kettering in Kettering

I genuinely hate leaving negative reviews, but I feel I need to in this case. We ordered our wedding cake and agreed with Butterwicks Kettering that it would be delivered at 5pm to the venue, 6.30pm came and there was no cake. We sent a message via Facebook and was told that the delivery driver was delayed and that the shop owner would be delivering it to us instead. The cake was delivered eventually, however it wasn't as described on the website. I could be surmising, but it felt like our order was forgotten and our cake was put together last minute in the bakery from what they had left from that day. We had a very laid back wedding, so we weren't overly stressed about it (my friends and family had made the decision to dash to Sainsbury's without us knowing for a last minute cake - so sweet). What's making me write this review is the lack of correspondence afterwards. We all make mistakes, to err is human, but it's how those mistakes are dealt with thereafter. I've messaged via the website and have emailed the bakery owner directly, and have heard nothing back 3 weeks later. They're incredibly quick to respond to my order via these channels, but not a complaint. If you're going to order a wedding cake, I'm sure it will be lovely, however make sure you keep on top of them consistently with your expectations, even if they're as simple as ensuring the cake will be there.

I very rarely leave negative reviews even if I do not enjoy the food.. We do not know how any of the cakes or doughnuts taste like as after 10 minutes of listening to two employees happily chatting to each other in the back of the store, we decided to leave. No one was willing to serve us. And will definitely not return. Whilst we were waiting, another person wanted to order but then he decided to leave too.. Explains why they still have so much cake left..

This is in no way aimed at the service I get in store, which has always been top! But about the product. I loved this bakery when it first opened. But good things come to an end sadly.. The doughnuts have really gone downhill when you compare to the look and flavor from the beginning. I'd much rather pay more money and get an original, which I loved! Recently had my favourite homer doughnuts (from Kettering) but the look, taste and texture has changed dramatically. None of my family liked them now and compared them to a cheap supermarket doughnut. The customer service is not great either when you want to speak about any issues.. I always recommended this place, but won't be anymore sadly 🙁 BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL HOMER!

A lovely bakery in the Kettering town centre, we were waiting for something else so decided to pop in and have a quick snack. The selection of donuts had mine and the childrens mouths watering. We opted for a Simpsons, Carrot Cake and Biscoff and they were all devoured! A touch on the pricey side for a doughnut but it was worth the money and supporting a local business!

I stopped by here on a Sunday to celebrate buying the perfect wedding dress for my niece. We had a milkshake each. I was happy to learn they don't just use powder and milk to make them, but it's syrup and other things that I can't remember now. But it was well mixed and delicious. I had strawberry and my niece had biscoff, she liked hers so much she had finished it before we got back to the car. There was lots of choice on display for sweet treats. I think they were s but to optimistic to hope too sell that much in a day, but good luck to them, I hope they did it, I hate waste. There was a tall bar area to sit down but it didn't look too friendly or comfortable. I get to uncomfortable very easily when sat at stools. I would really return for other things

Unfortunately 6 out of 12 doughnuts we ordered were replaced with horrible ones due to being out of stock.. Not good enough.

Hi. I love Butterwick, but this time i was really disappointed. By ordering peanut butter iced latte I was expecting peanut butter flavoured syrup inside a coffee, not chunks of actual Peanut butter floating in my coffee. Texture is extremely off-putting and ruins the whole coffee experience. Doughnut was great though.

Was ecstatic to find that you did sausage rolls and bacon turnovers. Very disappointed when they came so cold they cooled my hot chocolate down

one item was unavailable so was substituted and a freebie thrown in. grateful for that!

The cinnamon fritters are to die for! (Slightly warmed up they taste even better)... Served by Gemma who was attentive and friendly. Service with a smile ☺️ 100% recommend

the coffees in the order were spilling over in the bag and they were not labelled. by the time we received them, they were only 3/4 full.

Really disappointed in my trip I just made today butterwick as always been my place to go when in the area but not going to be rushing back. When ordering didn’t really feel like we were welcomed I mean I’m not expecting amazing customer service but this interaction left me feeling like I was a nuisance to them I only ordered a shake took a few mins which I completely understand but when leaving the store and had my first sip was greeted with pure syrup at the bottom and under-filled, again not expecting 5* but I shouldn’t have to try to mix the syrup into my milkshake with a paper straw that broke.

Inconsistent at Best Went here a lot when it first opened but it has since gone down hill. Prices have risen and the amount of food you get for you money has gone down. Bakes are smaller, drinks are smaller but prices have risen. They try to have multiple types of donuts, muffins, cookies, brownies, and savoury items whilst only have 12 items on sale a day so there isn’t a variety of similar items like there used to be. This was topped off today when we ordered two milkshakes (for £9.50) and the biscoff one wasn’t mixed so the biscoff just stuck to the side and the shake was just vanilla flavoured.

They made coffee for me just the way I asked, perfect, so get five stars just for that! Delicious cakes too.

lovely food as always but the homer donut was missing and instead a cinnamon fritter, but with no explanation, which caused a minor meltdown given its my lo fave :-/ drinks weren't labelled this time and not as warm as usual(prob courier issue as I ordered at 8.15 and delivery was 9.30. but as usual tasty and definitely fresh x

This afternoon, my teenage son and I visited Butterwick to order 6 bakes to takeaway. Upon walking up the entrance, a staff member was leaning in the doorway, in his apron, vaping! He was blocking anyone from walking into the shop. I politely got his attention and asked if they were open, which I was told yes. But he didn't move and continued to block the entrance of the shop! Frustratingly, I had to ask if I could come in! The member of staff then walked back into the shop, and there was no friendly acknowledgement from him or another male staff member. We chose our bakes, paid and left feeling very disappointed with the service we received. The staff member then went back to being in the entrance doorway, vaping as soon as we had left. Butterwick, your bakes are amazing, and we can't fault them on the multiple times we have visited since you have opened. But on this occasion, your customer service was a real letdown. Seeing a staff member vaping in uniform in the doorway, blocking customers from entering and buying your bakes at 2 pm is unprofessional, uninviting and I wouldn't be visiting again any time soon.

The coffee was really greasy and oily, literally had a layer of oil on top and couldn’t drink it

I'm a regular customer and I love this place and I think the food quality is very good. However on this occasion one item of my order was missed off which is disappointing. It's never happened before and up until now I haven't been able to fault my experience buying or ordering from here.

Popped in for a cake and milkshake.... Took my grandkids too... Very pleasant to sit briefly inside but not alot of atmosphere.... If we had one negative it would be no gluten free options available - perhaps the franchise is missing a trick?... Thoroughly recommend any of the home made milkshakes.... 3 x cakes and 4 x milkshakes - £26

Just bought 8 pack of donuts.... every single donut tasted like it was made few days ago. Customer service seems like they have seen a ghost. No engagement with client. Well that's unfortunately is the first and last stop for me there.

I hate to do this as I like to support local businesses. However the cake slice size was poor. After seeing how good it looked on Instagram I ordered. The slice was very thin and cut poorly. Not worth the money and better portion at Starbucks. Both the banana loaf and Lemon drizzle were small. Expect better from Butterwick

£3.30 for a cupcake that was completely stale tasted like it’d be made days ago, I used to come here years ago and the quality of the product has gone down while the price has gone up! service was okay, found it a bit pressuring walking through the door and being asked straight away what can I get you. A how are you would be appreciated rather than straight to business 🤔 Will be going cake box in future just down the road for a larger cheaper and better quality cake that are all vegan.

Arrived later than the original time stated on just eat. But coffee was top notch and piping hot, food was lovely and fresh. Butterwicks is always delicious!

Ordered at 10.50 arrived at 12.45. Approx 3 miles delivery and the food didn’t need cooking!!

This was our first time of ordering from Butterwick Bakery but it certainly wont be the last ,the cakes /doughnuts/cookies we ordered were amazing and the replacements we chose for the cakes out of stock were just as good :) Very good flavours plus the fillings and toppings were generous portions ,as were the actual items. Really impressed with the prices and they were well worth the cost. Delivery was fast and the driver very friendly and polite.

Butterwick is good for puppy cup if your dog doesn’t have milk sensitivity, my lab is a bit funny stomach with cream so he had not great experience afterwards, however my terrier love it and never had an issue. Donuts are ok if you have a very VERY sweet tooth, I usually go for Victoria donut as it’s least sweet from ones they have. I would not get cupcakes from there as they are very crumbly and impossible to eat, stuck to the paper liners, making it a waste of money. Staff is always polite and welcoming.

Went in to rushden today and served by the WONDERFUL Zoë! What a lovely girl, she was absolutely fantastic, warm, welcoming and full of fun, real asset to the team and you are very lucky to have her! 5 stars for Zoë, she is excellent! Cake unfortunately not as good as they have been in the past!

I don’t know why all talk about this place I ordered two doughnuts and brownies I am chocked about the quality unfortunately they look better than the taste sir for that but I can buy the same quality from Sainsbury only the decoration will be not the same so disappointed I will never put my money on this unless I want to throw it I don’t recommend at all

Told on phone wrong order as they had only worked there 5 days and on there own,really surprised to be told this tosh by this bakery,then guy hung up as people in shop and didnt want to sort my wrong order,absolute joke if they mess your order,wont be buying again

Unfortunately we got sent a wrong item in our delivery, my little one wanted a Nutella brownie but actually got sent a basic cookie, it was a birthday treat so a little disappointed :/

Delivery driver was lovely and wished me a good day and the vanilla latte and raspberry milkshake was delicioussssss, I added a teaspoon of lions mane mushroom powder to the raspberry shake for some extra brain power and it didn’t change the flavour at all

Every time I order on a Sunday, the cakes, doughnuts and blondies are always stale! The blondie seemed like it was baked 3-4 days ago it was that stale, items look the part but that’s about it. Also the biscoff blondie just tasted of cinnamon as I assume they use the same base for the cinnamon swirl blondie. But yeah not great to be honest

50 mins late. The restaurant had to chase it up for me. Driver just disappeared somewhere for about 35mins with my order so coffee was cold and some of toppings melted as it had been next to the coffee for so long. Food as always was amazing.

Cakes and doughnuts are good but aren't cheap. The biggest is issue is the slow service. You need to allow at least 10 mins to get served and if the person in front of you is ordering more then one hot drink, you'll be there for hours ! I expect a better experience for the prices charged.

I'm not sure why there's so much hype around this place, the doughnuts are always so dry and stale! Great ideas for flavours and options but they look so much better than they taste....such a shame because the staff are super friendly and welcoming but their products are so disappointing, and for the price too!

Staff are ALWAYS really nice but for the price (and hype) the quality is disappointing. I have been three times and each time surprised by the very small selection of doughnuts etc They only have one case of goodies, they should have at least 8 x times that amount.

We ordered some pup bakes for our dogs birthday and the staff at Butterwick Kettering were amazing. They had run out of pup bakes and sent us a puppachino and a tray bake cake. They really made Alfie's day. He made a mess enjoying his puppachino but was so happy. And he had a quarter of the tray bake. Thank you so much.

Not necessarily the fault of the bakery but everything arrived and smelt of garlic, which then affected the taste which was a shame

Popped in today with my son and we had a caramel cookie doughnut each.9 year old enjoyed it but old dad thinks 6 pounds for 2 average tasting doughnuts is a bit much.The hype got me in the door but doubt will return as for that price should be better.

Lovely cake shop with amazing milkshakes. I tried their biscoff brownie cheesecake and biscotti milkshake. Both were delicious and fresh.

Fantastic store with amazing variety of bakes. Was introduced to you by my bf and now every time I see him there’s always a reason to go to the store! Staff are really friendly and the stores have great ambiance. Just wish there were 100s more stores! A random entry into this shop to see what all the cake fuss from colleagues was all about. My jaw dropped when I saw the vast selection of hand made delicious looking cakes in front of me. Thankfully the two lads in front of me were placing a large order to take back to thier warehouse, so I had plenty of time to make up my mind. I decided that I should buy 3, one for now, another for afternoon tea and the third one would be my pudding after dinner. Confident with my selection, the lovely assistant took my order and said the best words I heard all day..... If you buy one more, you get two more free!!! Holly molly, cakes all round for the family today, so I left the store with a bag full of the most amazing cakes, and later that day that they taste even better than they look. Still deciding on a favourite, the wagon wheel sandwich is a beast! The biscoff cupcake is devive, and the donuts.....,I never got to try the party ring ones I brought, someone snaffled them that afternoon! The cinnamon one is probably my favourite.....for now. Roll on the new store openings in Northampton, as I work there a lot, and Rushden Lakes, as we go there more often than Kettering town. Keep up the excellent choices, flavours, quality and friendly service. I will be spending more money shortly.........

Visited my local Butterwick at the weekend for my 'fix'. I decided on the Vice Versa cup cake which didn't disappoint, a milk and white chocolate mash up, what's not to like? I usually go for a coffee but decided on a milkshake this week, I opted for Strawberry which was deliciously thick and smooth. As always the staff are friendly and helpful and the store is always clean and tidy. With so many goodies on offer you'd be mad not to give them a try!
