Busby Hotel Restaurant in East Renfrewshire

This restaurant is first class. Great food and the waiter service is excellent- friendly and professional.

Never got a chance to take my coat off and was being told about the evening specials. As I sat down was then asked "Do youse want drinks" My choice of water as I was driving had a non-appreciative response. White wine was not chilled. Mains order took 35 minutes to arrive (complete with burnt carrots) Profesionalism is sadly lacking with the young serving staff. As for the booth we were sitting in - remember the waltzers at the fun fair, that's what it reminded us of. Television showing live sport does nothing to improve the ambience of a restaurant, especially as no-one was watching it. Won't be returning and we'll stick with the White Cart round the corner - much better place to go.

i took my sister in law out for afternoon tea for her birthday. it was her first time there she love it. she can wait to come back. the service was amazing and the food was amazing too. I would like to thank bill and the team for wonderful service I will recommend this place to friend and family.

I booked this for a family birthday Sunday lunch. I was very disappointed by the overall service. Very low standards. No attention to detail.

This restaurant is overpriced for small portions of below average food. The food was dry and tasteless.

Carters at the Busby has been a place that we have tended to go to now and again (maybe for a special occasion) rather that on a regular basis. Party because it has always been a bit on the expensive side. We’ve not been for a while. On our most recent visit it would only be fair to say that the food was good, if not spectacular, and the staff were attentive and efficient, but, for me, Carters is now just too expensive for what you get. I appreciate that times are tough but I think it would now be very hard to justify the cost. £160 for four adults, two courses each - but two of the starters were garlic bread and three of the main course were chicken and chips ! £9.00 for a fairly small plate of mussels is too much and we were charged for wine that was more expensive than the one we ordered. Never a good sign. We also had to send back the vodka and lemonade three times because it tasted like it was just lemonade. We were eventually told that this was because they were using a different lemonade but (in my opinion) it was more likely to be because their measures are so pitifully small. Perhaps the measures have been reduced to save money, but we’d have been better (and certainly much cheaper) to just have ordered lemonade. We also got charged for a starter that we didn't get so had to query the bill, never a welcome experience. Definitely overpriced, I don’t think we’ll be back anytime soon, which is a shame.

My wife and I go regularly to this restaurant because the food is the best in the area, the main courses and the starters are cooked well and there is quite a bit of originality in the menu. Also the bar has a terrific selection of draught beer, so you can't go wrong in that area. In the last few months, however, the quality of the food has dropped. There is less of a choice in the starters and in the sweets, plus the main courses which we have tried have somehow deteriorated. For example, the home made Veggie Burger which my wife likes was different and much heavier on the stomach, the whole cut chips were dry and reheated, and the vegetables and potatoes with the chicken dish were disappointing. There was also a noisy, inebriated crowd at the bar that went unchecked and made things worse. A great pity, used to be excellent and a first choice place to go.

We have been looking for a lunch venue where we can take dad to when we visit Scotland. This is the second time that we have been here. The ambiance is excellent. Quiet enough to have a nice chat. Staff are polite, efficient and courteous. The lunch menu has a good range and the portions are substantial. Dad's favourite is the haggis, Mac n cheese. Good parking and easy access. Lots of other tables were enjoying afternoon tea which looked tempting for next time. When booking, we were given a 1hr45 min time slot which is a super idea as it helps to manage expectations. We will be returning.

Been to the restaurant a few times and had a great meal. Decided to visit again with two of my friends, as I have eaten there in the past, I recommend the Fabulous Steak pie to my friends, which we all ordered. Disappointingly when our meals arrived the portions of Steak were tiny. In the past the steak was in a dish with the pastry on top. This time it was 5-6 bit of steak. What a let down as and embarrassment as I told my friends how good the Steak Pie is. This while the staff were good and friendly, they did nothing when I complained.

Haven't been for a while thanks to covid, have always been impressed by the food in the past. Getting back to normal, a trip to Carters was looked forward to, and the ambience and service are unchanged, great stuff as it's top notch on both fronts. Unfortunately we were disappointed by the food this visit: my starter was the leek and potato soup which was a pretty bland vegetable broth with lots of diced potato and a bit of leek; I tried mashing the potato up a bit but it was pretty forgettable. Undaunted I looked forward to my burger and chips which was exactly that, a burger and some chips: salad, slaw? Nope, guess I have to pay extra for that, like the £2 I paid for six slices of jalapeno. A bit disappointed by this point I looked forward to my chocolate fudge cake with chantilly cream, but again my anticipation was dashed with a quite modest slice of cake accompanied by a small pot of cream..... just cream. Does the chef not know what chantilly cream is or do they think I'm too thick to notice the difference? My partners three courses were better, but none were without criticism either, not least putting two small scoops of ice cream in a tiny bowl and not putting it on a plate, as the ice cream melted it dripped onto her table mat. What surprised me was the amount of plates that were off, things like pastry(?) and parmesan were unavailable. I know things have been tough for this sector for the past couple of years, but this isn't a good way to bounce back. There's a lot of competition in the local area, I don't think Carters justifies its pricing.

Our breakfasts during our stay were excellent, good choice and all cooked to order. Nothing too much trouble. Lovely.

My wife ordered the chicken burger, it was rotten, I ordered steak pie, way overpriced, I've also had better microwave meals. Me and my wife both ended up with the sh#ts. Service was terrible waited about half an hour for the food, had to go to the bar to order more drinks. Overpriced food and bad service

I had lunch here with my 3 brothers on a Friday. The restaurant is bright and airy with plenty of varied seating areas including at the bar and various different tables and booths. The menu has a good variety of choices and the service was very good - iinobtrusive and efficient. The food was very tasty. We had 2 courses, 4 soft drinks and coffee - the bill was just over £100 before gratuity which I thought was very good value for what we had. We will be back.

Breakfast was amazing - good quality haggis, black-pudding, tattie scone, square sausage, bacon - etc etc Delicious.

This place is amazing! The staff are so friendly and chatty, but also very efficient. All of our food was cooked perfectly. We had steaks, fish and chips and the ribs. The cocktails were great, everything just right. Wish you were closer to Southampton!

Yet again a superb visit to Carters with friends. Extremely high quality food and wine and great staff. Can’t wait till next time.

We went to Carters last Monday evening as a belated dinner For my step-daughters birthday which was in May. A lovely social distanced dinner. Food was good and a nice atmosphere with very attentive staff. Look forward to going back in the near future.

Some things good, some things average, some things poor (and then we have the décor!) Starters had were Haggis Bon Bons and Vegetarian Bon Bons in batter. The haggis ones were nice tasting inside, but soggy coating; the vegetarian ones had a nice batter, but...

We had a wonderful evening here, to celebrate our daughter’s 16th Birthday. We had 14 guests, and everyone agreed the level of service, and quality of the food was exceptional. A special thanks to Laura for the effortless service she provided.

We go here a lot but never get fed up or disappointed! Denise ,ashleigh and the staff are attentive and welcoming and have a way of making you feel special! Food of a very high standard and the atmosphere great! A credit to the impressive manorview group!

Una mañana tuve el desayuno escocés completo, pero los otros días me quedé con una tarifa continental (carnes, quesos, etc.). Bebí en el bar un par de noches, con amigos una noche y yo solo la otra. El personal del restaurante / bar era genial, especialmente Beth, Eve y Martin. Cena / almuerzo - - Disfruté de la coliflor pakora, el aperitivo frito de bolas de haggis, el pastel de carne y el pollo a la sal / pimienta.

My wife and I come here twice a year for our lunch, once in the summer and at Christmas for our christmas lunch, today we went for festive lunch and the moment we stepped back into the restaurant the manager came over to us and ask if we had reserved and asked us where we would like to sit but unfortunately the area we always sit at was booked out for a large party so went for a booth which was just as good as the seats, still we could see what was going on round about us, not that we were reporting (if you get our drift - you know who you are) . My wife had the Pate and I had the soup with Sourdough Bread and butter very nice and tasty, then we both went for the Turkey and all the trimmings by this time we were full to the brim we could not eat another dish, pity but their Sticky Toffee Pudding with Ice cream will have to wait for another time as I would have made myself burst , this sweet is a must if you go to this place, tea and coffee with small piece of tablet and a small mince pie, we were served by Ashley (Manager), she looked after us well, thank you Ashley you made our christmas this year, and we will be back next year between now and the spring.

Todo un poco frenético y con poco personal, pero cuando llegamos a nuestra mesa, el personal era agradable y atento.El pastel de pescado era bueno y tenía una buena relación calidad-precio, pero una vez que el vino se agregó a nuestra factura, resultó ser una comida costosa, ni siquiera teníamos mucho vino.

We arrived early and had a few drinks before our table reservation at 8:30PM. This was a wedding anniversary meal so we wanted to make a night of it. Bar staff were great and able to give me some recommendations for gin pairings and beers for my husband which was brilliant. The manager (I think, sorry I didn't get her name) made us aware that there had been a function party shoe up late which had unfortunately had a knock-on effect to the kitchen. We were ok with this and we're glad she told us. We ended up not getting our food until nearly 1h 20m after we sat down. This wasn't ideal as by that time of night we were hungry, but we did appreciate the staff keeping us informed and the free drinks to tide us over. We both thoroughly enjoyed our mains and dessert. We had our wedding at the busby hotel last year and will return as we love the food and the venue, and appreciate that it wasn't a staff fault that a large function party showed up late.

Fui a almorzar el domingo por la tarde con mis amigos y familiares. El restaurante es muy moderno y bonito decorado, de aspecto elegante. Nos sentamos en el medio del restaurante y había mucho espacio. Cuando se sirve el personal fue muy amable con nosotros y acogedor. Había un menú fijo que era encantador y muy razonable y barato. Pedí las alitas de pollo y pescado y la comida era para morirse. El pescado era enorme y las patatas fritas eran tan deliciosas. Las alas también fueron muy buenas. Una de las mejores comidas que he tenido en mucho tiempo. El personal era muy agradable, lo que lo hizo una experiencia aún mejor. La comida y el ambiente era un gran lugar para estar! Calificaría 10/10 por toda la experiencia. fabuloso fabuloso fabuloso! ! ! ! !

El personal amable y un montón de opciones de comida. Especiales de pre teatro donde puedes conseguir una comida de tres platos por aproximadamente 15. 00. La comida vegetariana es limitada, pero hay opciones disponibles que incluyen vegana. Las raciones son enormes y frescas. Muy ocupado, así que asegúrate de reservar con antelación.

Todavía estoy luchando para averiguar por qué los precios son tan altos, claramente afecta la caída del pie ya que el lugar estaba bastante vacío. El servicio fue bueno, una gran mejora con respecto a mi última visita, pero hay algo en el lugar que no es acogedor, hace frío y, aunque está bien amueblado, carece de ambiente. No estoy seguro de ver un regreso pronto y en lo que respecta a una pinta o dos, hay lugares mucho mejores cerca.

This restaurant has a lot to learn. Both myself & my friend had the duck breast which was almost inedible. Trying to be polite we managed to struggle to cut it with a knife but gave up halfway through. After informing the staff we were offered dessert or coffee ‘on the house’ which we didn’t want. No compensation was made for this terrible meal on the bill. Very average service.

The staff were smiley, personable and attentive. The feather blade beef dish was delicious as was the apple pie to follow. Did not want to leave. Recommend highly.

My partner and I ordered fajitas, me chicken and her veggie. When it came the chicken was like rubber and had obviously been re-heated from day before though I ate it as I was so hungry. My partner’s was veggie and consisted of mixed peppers and one tiny piece of onion, absolutely disgusting for the price. We complained and an apology was given and the offer of 2 free coffees though we politely declined as we didn’t want to stay any longer in a place that served up such tripe. Not the waitresses fault and the staff are very nice as is the decor but some chefs need a good kick up the backside. There was another time we came in before this for my partner’s birthday ( she had been working late) and we were in before the cut off for the kitchen but were told the kitchen was closing. The chef(s) obviously run the show in this place. Such a shame as we came here quite a lot beforehand but would never set foot back in the place. Do yourself a favour and save your money!

We were welcomed warmly and shown to our table. Along with the regular menu there were several "specials" available. My starter of scallops with black pudding was very tasty and the main of braised feather blade of steak was equally good. Our waitress was chatty and interacted with us with great humour.

The meal was superb as it was very tasty and excellent quality. Our waitress Amy was super friendly, which made the experience all the more enjoyable.

Food was OK, but the service was very good, enjoyable evening. There was a birthday party on and a wedding but not obtrusive.

The food here is absolutely fabulous and staff very attentive and nothing a bother for them. We have also had dinner here in the past and the food was excellent too, and their cream teas are amazing

My husband and I were lucky enough to be given a voucher for bed and breakfast at the Busby Hotel.

Went today for Sunday Easter lunch with my partner, daughter, son in law and grandson 17 months. Lentil soup was lacking in taste and body. Tempura starter was good. Chicken burgers were good but chips left a lot to be desired. Shepard’s pie my partner left. The meat was tough and it was mince. Flavour lacking. My roast was a disaster. Beef over cooked. Gravy watery

Had another good Mother’s Day Dinner. From the minute we arrived staff greeted us immediately and while our table wasn’t ready that wasn’t a problem as we could wait in comfort and offered a drink. Amy was very attentive and particularly caring with my elderly mum (91) getting her a couple of cushions as the chair was too low for her. The food was delicious and while the restaurant was very busy nothing was too much trouble. Thank you Amy for making our mother’s day, the three generations loved it and hope to be back next year.

Previously I had dinner with my partner here which was great. The service was quick, the food was well seasoned and cooked and overall I was very happy with our meal!

The only negative from my stay at the hotel; no great complaints about the service which was attentive and cheerful enough but the steak was disappointing. I have faith in a rib -eye having enough flavour to not need a sauce but I ordered some on the side just in case. The steak arrived covered in a different sauce. The main flavour was charcoal which seemed to be a combination of fat flaming and charcoaled oil. The chips were billed as cooked three times; perhaps they should have been checked after cooking number two? The onion rings dangling from the chip basket were cooked ok, but it was all just a bit lacking in care. It did not live up to the hotel or the price of the meal.

Went for daughters birthday meal - surroundings are really pleasant and decor nice, however, we had to wait 50 minutes for our food and the restaurant wasn't really busy,

Popped in on a saturday night for a bite to eat. Got a table without a reservation. Myself and my husband had steak pie which was lovely but on looking at the bill and finding out a large pinot gricio was £8.40 it left us astounded. I havnt paid that for a glass of wine in the city centre.

Tener en realidad nos alojamos en el Hotel Busby, hace algunos años me cautivó al ver que el lugar había sufrido alteraciones significativas. Como era la hora del almuerzo mi colega y yo decidimos parar y ver qué delicias el menú tenía para ofrecer.

La cena era excelente y el personal no podría haber sido más servicial. Me ayudaron a crear un ambiente agradable que disfrutamos todos nuestros amigos.

Mi marido y yo pasamos aquí nuestra boda el día 24 de noviembre de 2017 y no nos decepcionó. El personal va más allá de usted y la mitad del tiempo no tienes que pedir nada como ya tienen cubierto! Sarah Jane es la guinda...

Food delicious and staff could not have done any more ,we were never kept waiting I loved the surroundings it was warm and very friendly atmosphere.i had 2 young grandchildren with me and the staff were accommodating to them which can be a handful at times,I can’t Waite for mt nexr visit,they deserve more than 5 stars ⭐️

Nice decor and toilets. Unfortunately the food was massively overpriced and bland, and the service was pretty poor. Despite the restaurant being relatively quiet, we were ignored when we initially came in, served by several different people, noticed wait staff appeared to be good at busying themselves and chatting to each other without really doing much for customers. Generally disappointing experience.

We dined here in a group of 4. The interior and exterior is really lovely and welcoming. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. I will definitely come here again!

I went for dinner here this week with my family for the first time since it’s refurbishment / rebranding. The new furnishing in the restaurant is nice, however the service and the food was awful and over priced.

Recientemente visité su restaurante para una comida familiar y la comida era deliciosa. Nuestro servidor de Andrew (vasos y muy educado) era extremadamente atento y champán y realmente hizo que nuestra noche sea mucho más agradable. Nunca nos sentamos con un vaso vacío, gracias a él y él era informativo sobre todos sus platos populares nos ayudó a nuestra elección. Él es un crédito para sus negocios y hizo que nuestra noche más especial. Cuando pedimos que pase nuestra felicitaciones al chef, nos recibió de Russel, que fue muy agradecido por nuestra enhorabuena y muy agradable para charlar con ella. Sin duda volveremos debido al fantástico servicio de su personal y la comida estupenda.

Me alojé aquí después de visitar un miembro de la familia para almorzar. Creo que es un bonito restaurante con una arquitectura encantadora y cubiertos. El servicio era bueno y estaría encantado de volver.

Meal was lovely, throughly enjoyed by all but evening was made by exceptional service from our waitress Laura, nothing we asked was a problem service was always delivered with a smile. Look forward to returning !

Viniendo de centro comercial silverburn, tomamos un giro en la carretera que no había viajado antes. Cuando nos acercamos a Clarkson, nos dimos cuenta de que no estaban lejos de la busby hotel. Tener comida en el restaurante del hotel (carters) decidimos entrar para el almuerzo. Era bastante tranquilo, pero tuvimos una comida deliciosa. El haggis bon bos eran sabrosas y la torta de carne perfectamente preparado. Volveremos pronto

I visited here recently for lunch. I liked the décor and design of the restaurant and the bathrooms were nice and clean. However, I found it very odd the bar did not have limes? I'm sure that is a key ingredient when making drinks. The wine list did also not make sense. There was a section for red wine and rose wine but not white? The rose wine which I had was not good. I ordered a pizza which was tasteless and stodgy with a thick base. The burger was also not good and the fish and chip dish was mainly batter and not fish. I find the food very overpriced considering the lack of quality! I didn't order the lasagne but I see it is described as 'fresh pasta'. I hope that means you freshly make the dough from scratch every morning otherwise that doesn't really make sense. At least the brown chairs near the entrance were comfortable!

What a transformation to the Busby Hotel! Stunning decor & Carters food & service was great. I called to change my booking time & spoke to Gary who changed no problem. Our greeting at the door was very welcoming. Our meal was delicious & all the staff were friendly & professional. Gary also served us & was very personable & polite, going out his way to check something about my meal that I hadn't even asked him to. What a fantastic service and amazing food.Was greated by Gary who was very polite and showed us to the seating area and gave us a choice of seats very promptly.The menu has a great choice for everyone.Again we where served by Gary who took our drink and food order very quickly.We ordered the shredded pork spring rolls and haggis bon bons.Our food came super quick and was very tasty indead.The Asian Slaw brought great depth and flavour to the dish with the sesame seeds.My haggis came with a fantastic whisky and mustard sauce and small side salad.For main we both liked the sound of the burgers so both went for the BBQ Burger.It came on a toasted brioche bun great big a very well cooked burger with bacon and smokey cheese and bbq sauce with onions and tomatoe and lettuce.It was serviced with an onion ring on top. Great handmade chips on the side and a serving of coldslaw.For desert i went for an Americano with cold milk on the side and it was served with some scottish tablet on the side too.My wife decided on the vanilla Sunday.WOW the size of it was massive. Served with Scottish tablet and toffee sauce dribbled over it.We will definitely be back as the service was second to none from Gary and the Girl who served us to the manager who brought us the dishes over and making sure everything was ok and to our satisfaction.The food was absolutely amazing and definitely worth a visit if you are in the south side.We did not have any alcohol but the drinks menu seemed very reasonable also.We will be back real soon.

My husband booked a lunch for my 65th birthday and invited friends to join us. The staff were very welcoming and attentive and the food on the whole was excellent. My only complaint was the 'Busby Sundae'. To me a sundae is ice cream, fruit, cream, sauce and usually a wafer. The strawberry sundae consisted of strawberry ice cream, cream and one strawberry split into four. There was no sauce. The hazelnut sundae was vanilla ice cream and a little sauce. Tasted ok but not interesting to the eye. On saying the above it would not stop us from visiting again.

A group of work colleagues booked for dinner. Some of worst food i've ever had. "Warmed Scottish salmon on seasonal leaves, roast beetroot and ginger" . What was served was tasteless, fridge cold raw salmon (allegedly beetroot cured) with shredded leaves that had seen better days, half a cherry tomato and not a sign of roasted beetroot AND we were charged £12.95 for it. The pizza Marinara was a joke. It looked like a circle of cardboard with some chopped garlic and not a trace of tomato sauce. We won't be back.

Visited many times during our wedding planning process. Have always found the food and service to be excellent! We'll be back soon!

I visit here regularly and in the past have had afternoon tea vouchers. The afternoon tea is delicious but service is slow. I don't know if it is because the vouchers are pre paid and therefore no money would be passed over but staff rarely come over. Twice I've wanted to order additional drinks but due to staff not coming near we ended up leaving which is a shame. However I have been for dinner where staff seem to be more attentive and the food is delicious. Definitely 100 times better than what the busby hotel used to be!

My family and I visited this restaurant at the end of April, 2017 and were throughly impressed with the overall experience!The restaurant is located in the upscale Busby Hotel in Clarkston, Glasgow, Scotland. It is very spacious and has a fully stocked bar. This restaurant can accommodate large groups, is wheelchair accessible and has high chairs for children. Our server was friendly and provided amazing recommendations. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meals and we found the prices reasonable. I had the Fish and Chips which were made in an authentic Scottish fashion. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The portions of the meals were quite large and I would definitely recommend trying the Fish and Chips. If you are in Clarkston, Glasgow and are looking for a place with great service, atmosphere and food, check out Carters at the Busby Hotel. We would definitely return the next time we are in town.

We stayed at the hotel for three nights for a wedding (see separate review for the hotel experience - not so good). We used this restaurant many times - beautifully decorated, great ambience, well stocked, good food and, best of all, the staff. I enjoyed several cosmopolitan cocktails over the three days - very well mixed, some of the best I have had. The breakfast girls on the Sunday morning deserve special mention. Absolutely brilliant!

I had a meal at Carters Bar and Restaurant as I was staying at Busby Hotel. The staff are excellent with the exception of restaurant manager, Megan, who is absolutely not suited to the position of restaurant manager. The food was pleasant. Service was speedy. The restaurant decor was very nice.

Went for dinner on 21.03.2017 for the second time and it did not disappoint! Amazing food and especially great service from Laura. Always a great atmosphere and the staff are so friendly. Will definitely be back.

This is part of the Busby Hotel and it has an excellent modern bar and restaurant. Had dinner there on the second night and had a high quality meal at a very reasonable price. Very good selection of wines and found the staff very well trained and very pleasant and friendly. Although there was none on when we were there it does also appear to offer good quality entertainment on set nights. I.e. Tribute acts etc etc

For my mum's birthday, i bought her a wowcher for an afternoon tea for the both of us her. She's been to Carter's for dinner before and really enjoyed it so i knew she'd be keen to try the afternoon tea as well.It was my first time here and upon arrival i was really impressed. The exterior decor is lovely and the same can be said for indoors! there are cute little booths everywhere, a nice open bar and pretty lights. There were a few other groups already there for their afternoon tea and so we were immediately looking forward to ours. we were shown to our table promptly and offered our glass of prosecco straight away. Not long after we were given our prosseco was our cake stand of treats brought to us and we were offered tea or coffee. We went with coffee. Although the service was fast and attentive at this point I sort of wished we given our afternoon tea and hot drinks first then left to enjoy some bubbly afterwards.The afternoon tea looked delicious. We had tuna, cheese savoury, egg mayo and ham salad sandwiches which were all full sized quarter cut sandwiches and were yummy. The cakes on the next level were very cute but on the small side. We had a lemon drizzle cake, victoria sponge cake and a cream slice each but we were able to finish them within one bite. The scones on the top level were also very small. They were delicious however and they did give us a small jam jar each and plenty of clotted cream which was appreciated. We enjoyed the food very much but for us having slightly smaller sandwiches is preferable to having tiny cakes so were just slightly let down by the size of the cakes.We stayed on after our afternoon tea and had 2 more drinks each; more prosecco for me and chardonnay for my mum but our final drink was a bit of a struggle to get. The staff had decided to hold a meeting at the table next to us which was quite disruptive and also made it very difficult for us to get anybody's attention for our final drink. We did get it eventually though but we did need to wait about 15-20 minutes before anybody noticed us.Overall, we enjoyed our experience at Carter's and we would return in the future but we would hope the points we have mentioned would be addressed.

This was the restaurant used on our stay at the Busby hotel.It's the hotel restaurant. We entertained ten friends for dinner and it was fine.

Had a lovely Valentine's meal in Carter's Bar. Everything was delicious. Also stayed overnight and breakfast was also excellent

Great bar. Great measures . Great food. Great owners. Very clean and welcoming. Definitely will return.

Service was good and the atmosphere was nice. Food was ok but felt there could have been more healthy options.

This was my second visit to Carters. The first visit I rated 4 stars but it wasn't without issues however they were only minor. While the service was excellent the meal did take some time to arrive, approximately 45 minutes for the first course. Not ridiculously long but long enough to notice, especially when you are really hungry. I should point out it wasn't busy either. Personally, I had the duck, and while the duck itself was nice enough it came with about one table spoonful of mashed potatoes and a little veg. The entire portion could easily fit in the palm of my hand so for the money I'm not sure this was good value.Also, I'm not sure it's good value that a 1 litre bottle of still water is £4.20. I felt that was on the steep side, personally. Overall we had a good time but there is definitely room for improvement on the food front. There are many other restaurants in this price bracket that offer much more for your money, unfortunately, which is a shame as Carters is a nice environment to eat in.

Our first visit to Carters for my mum's birthday. Right from the start the service here was first class. Very attentive but not intrusive. Gary and Fraser got everything spot on, even helping to secret the birthday cake away without my mum noticing and brought it back at just the right time!! Really excellent! On that basis alone we will be back again soon. Our starters were all excellent; haggis bon bons, black pudding spring roll and ham hock. Really lovely! However, the main meals let the experience down. My spicy sausage cannelloni looked and tasted like lasagne. It wasn't great. The burger and the fish and chips were just ok. Overall the adult mains were just a little bland. My kids enjoyed their pizza and chicken goujons though. I'd definitely give this place a second chance.

I dined in this restaurant as I was staying at the Busby hotel. The service was excellent and the food really tasty, without the need to add any seasoning. I also really liked the decoration.

Popped in here for lunch with my wife and son. Staff were excellent and the food was perfect. Good value for money.

Another fab visit to Carters @ The Busby hotel. We visited as a party of 5, all had mains and dessert with drinks. Great service, fab atmosphere and setting and the food was as always gorgeous, my only niggle would be the cheese board is a little over priced. No doubt we will be back again in the new year !

Popped in here for a spot of lunch with my wife, initial impressions are good, looks very nice from the outside, modern and clean inside.We were shown to our table and given menus, the waitress then proceeded to inform us which items were off that day, it was a rather extensive list. No pizza available due to non delivery of pizza dough, couldn't they have made some dough? Took our drink order which arrived quickly.Anyway, ordered our starters, or attempted to at least, the item I had ordered was also off so I had to pick something else. A minute later the waitress came back, the starter my wife had ordered, now also off. By this point the menu was down about a third of it's choices.My wife had the soup of the day which she said was okay, I had the black pudding spring role. Have to say it was pretty disappointing. The filo black pudding interface had suffered from a structural failure during cooking, sadly for me this meant my black pudding was more of a black pudding/fat from the fryer hybrid gloop which didn't taste of much. Not really the nicest thing to eat but I was pretty hungry.We both ordered the burger with pulled pork and chorizo which sounded and looked great, looks were a bit deceiving and while not a bad burger was actually very plain tasting (I think i got a hint of chorizo at one point) and the bun was pretty dry. The chips however, they shone like a brilliant beacon of excellence and were great, really well cooked, crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy in the middle. As good as they were it wasn't enough to save the rest of the meal for me. We also ordered a side of onion rings, nearly forgot all about them as they had little to no flavour at all.We asked for the bill and this was quickly brought over, on looking at it we spotted that we had been charged for the starter my wife had first requested and that my shandy (driving) had been rung up as a full pint. We questioned this and were told that shandies were charged at the price of a full pint, seems a bit cheeky to me but hey ho. The waitress left and came back with our bill again and told us "it was only a pound less". Not really the point how much it was.We had a starter each, main each and one drink each, bill came in at just under £50. Have to say it wasn't worth that. Apart from the chips it really wasn't anything better than you would get as a chain pub meal for about £20 less. Add to that the decimation of the menu, mistakes on the bill and what were some pretty pricey drinks and we wouldn't rush back. Which is shame as it's a nice environment.Staff seemed nice enough though we were a bit peeved about the response to our pointing out the mistake on the bill.

I recently purchased a 5pm voucher for here to try the afternoon tea. It was excellent value and a lovely afternoon. It was the usual sandwiches, scones and cakes which were all lovely, my only small criticism would be that no one explained to us what was on the stand, in particular with the sandwich fillings. We were brought over a few refills for our tea throughout and didn't feel rushed at all by any of the staff even though we were there for a few hours. I really like the interior the restaurant, it has a lovely feel, especially all decorated for Christmas.

We had a brilliant lunch today with the family. I had been just after the hotel had been refurbished and had an "ok" dinner but I had heard things had improved so we decided to give it a try. It was greatly improved. The food was delicious especially the sweet potato and goats cheese Samosa. The kids really enjoyed their meal too. I have to say one thing that stands out is all the staff. We were served by a number of different people and each one was extremely friendly and attentive. Really lovely, we'll be back soon.

This is a superb place to visit,staff are well trained and efficient,the food is superb and it is a great place to relax in

Myself and 5 friends generally eat out every Friday night and this restaurant is now our regular place to go. The staff are always exceptionally pleasant and helpful. It is bright fresh clean and a very comfortable atmosphere to dine. You are never rushed and staff are always checking to see if everything meets your requirements. My mates and I never have a straight forward food order, some of us are just too bloomin fussy for our own good but the staff cater for every request. Special mention to Charlene who puts up with us more than anyone should have too....shes is never harassed and always has a friendly smile even when we must bore her to tears. As for comment further up that its over priced? yeah its over priced if McDonald's is your budget but its really isn't any more expensive than most restaurants round about and far better by far than most for comfort and atmosphere.

This is an old hotel beautifully refurbished. The decor and atmosphere are good as is the food but it really is overpriced pub food. It's all a bit pretentious.
