Met up with friends on our annual visit. Both parties thought the other had booked. Lovely young lady managed to fit us in to the busy restaurant without any fuss. We all had a fish dish each different and all excellent. Friend said best fish cakes she had ever had and she is a very good cook 😃. Coffee with excellent homemade fudge finished a very enjoyable lunch.

What a great hotel in a fantastic location. Got parked easily and even though we arrived an hour early our room was ready. Our room was clean and tidy with tea and coffee and complimentary water. The staff throughout were very friendly and professional. My girlfriend is slightly disabled and they were very helpful towards her needs. The breakfast was fantastic, cooked to perfection. Overall a very enjoyable stay and we will be back soon. Melrose really is a great place for a short stay.

Great place to eat in a small quaint village! Staff is friendly and attentive, food is freshly made and delicious! Good selection for all tastes but I'd highly recommend the daily specials--freshly made with available ingredients from local sources. You can get anything from traditional English dishes like fish and chips to excellent meat pies and mash or for the more adventurous some venison and vegetables. Also ate breakfast here as it was part of my stay--the full Scottish breakfast is a feast--sausages, rashes of bacon, haggis or blood sausage, toast, mushrooms, beans, etc. It kept me full for a long day of fishing the Tweed! One thing--make a reservation! This place is popular with locals and tourists--do NOT expect to walk in off the street and be seated anytime soon if at all.

A very good supper, surpassing expectations. Excellent smoked salmon for sharing and two good main courses. We arrived in Melrose late and were worried that 8.30 pm was too late. We needn’t have worried. This is a “regular” spot in the Borders, and in the past service has been slow. It was really prompt at 8.39 pm. Food was really well prepared, I had fillets of plaice and my wife scallops. I also had a pint of alcohol free Guinness. It was surprisingly good.

We are a couple from outside Stirling, on a few days away, staying in Melrose. We booked a table at Burt's Hotel for dinner. I chose this hotel after reading great reviews. I have to agree it's a great place for dinner. Big portions. Great staff. But was lacking a bit of atmosphere. Everyone was whispering to each other because the area was so quiet, no background music. The price was on a par with other places which is on the higher end.

Compared with where we had eaten the previous evening - as CRH would say FAB-U-LOUS. Great food, friendly service, accomadating staff (due to inclement weather / road closures our booking was happily changed a few hours before our arrival) and a warm room.

This is our favourite place to eat with our dog in Melrose. We tried three dog friendly restaurants in the one week in Melrose whilst staying in the borders. We ate here twice in the week and tried a third time but unfortunately they stop serving lunch at 2.30pm. First time we had the best Cream of Chicken and Mushroom soup I've ever tasted. It was a meal in itself and was genuinely exceptional. I mentioned just how good it was to my other half and moments later overheard other eaters saying the same thing. My wife really enjoyed the garlic bread, which was better than usual. The Haddock and Chips was very good and my wife really praised the chicken Goujons. So much so that on our second visit there that week we both had the Goujons, which came with a mango dip and chips and salad. They were fabulous and very substantial, so much so that our dog helped us out. Whoever the Chef is there needs a pay-rise and the servers also did an excellent job resulting in a very healthy tip which was well earned. Thank you!

We've been calling in here for coffee for some years now. We originally were recommended to come here by a friend who knew of it from many years ago. As another reviewer said - its got an 'old school ambience' - family owned, dependable and unceasingly good. So we stopped for lunch - it was a Monday and most of the tables in the bar were taken - always a good sign. Our menu choices were spot on, especially the kedgeree. Must do dinner some time.....

One of the best meals I've had in last ten years. We wanted to eat on a Wednesday in October and it was fully booked !, managed to make a reservation for the Friday but for 18.15 that wasn't ideal for us but we decided to go for it. We were first customers in the restaurant which is beautiful, so impressed with how the tables are dressed and beautiful flowers. Shortly after we had many guests around us the atmosphere came alive. The staff were top notch , great food and wine. Couldn't recommend it high enough, we will go out of our way to go back again .

A classy, old-school restaurant in the heart of Melrose. We ate here twice out of three nights in the area. Excellent food, good wine, friendly folks. And the bartender turned me on to a whisky I’d never tried: Ledaig 12-year Discovery, from ex-bourbon and sherry casks. The clientele leans a bit older, yet the vibes are good. Nice little room out front to sip your after-dinner drink.

One of the best meals we have enjoyed this year. We were early and the only couple in the restaurant. Staff were friendly and attentive. Food was tasty, cooked to perfection, good quality and served at the right temperature. Restaurant had a good atmosphere with crisp white table cloths and napkins. Great experience and will return the next time we are in Melrose. Only downside was the cooler temperature in the restaurant. Good value for money, great ingredients and cooked to perfection.

In my opinion, Burt’s hotel is the best hotel in the best town in the Scottish Borders. Owned and managed by the Henderson family, Burt’s showcases Scottish hospitality at its very best. Why? Trish and Nick Henderson are friendly and welcoming. As a solo visitor I felt very comfortable in the hotel, whether in the bar or dining. The hotel is immaculate with great attention to detail everywhere. My single room was quiet, comfortable with everything you could wish for: quality soap, hair dryer and plenty of tea and coffee making facilities. The food here is as good as you’ll get in any Edinburgh or London restaurant and it’s worth visiting Burt’s just to dine. But stay there and you’ll experience a great Scottish breakfast too. There is also a fine car park where I felt very comfortable parking my beloved motorcycle. If I could award Burt’s 6/5 I would do so cheerfully. Thank you Trish and Nick, you’re a credit to Scottish hospitality.

This an old hotel so squeaky corridors are acceptable. The decor is tired but bedding crisp and fresh. Not so good was stained mattress. Tired hostess tray and meagre toiletries did not suggest superior room so a bit overpriced. Breakfast however was very good. The three ladies serving got the level of service just right and the the food was very good. Might try the dog freeTown House across the road next time. Provender restaurant 300 metres away was an excellent choice for dinner

Family hotel, good hotel, cozy, good reception. They even have a charging station for hybrid/electric cars. The price of kWh for charging is discussed - neat! Standard room (that's what it's called) is very small, but there is no larger one available. When booking in advance and again, everything is fully booked. Bed is very good. Closet with french doors is actually not possible in such a small room. In another place it could possibly be if the room is arranged more logically. All this effectively takes away space! Suitcase is almost impossible to unfold. Two chairs in such a small space with a big bed? And a small table and a boudoir - too much of a good thing, though! Too much furniture in a limited space. Breakfast and dinner are excellently taken care of and of good quality; tasty and a nice variation on the menu. The food is truly sublime, generous portions. And that includes the price of booking (value £40). The love for cooking is clearly visible on the plate. Even the duck liver pâté as an appetizer was really homemade! The sandwiches for the starter were also homemade/baked. The service is TOP! She runs her legs out from under her buttocks! In the morning from 1/2 8 am to 1 pm. In the evening from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Visited for dinner after checking reviews. I was not disappointed. Service efficient and discreet. Food fantastic. Starters of lamb kofta kebabs & nachos left us excited for our main course. Mains of lamb with potatoes, chickpea and ratatouille was absolutely delicious, so many complimentary tastes on the plate. Hubby had burger which again was very tasty though could have benefitted from homemade chips, my comments not his. Yes on the expensive side but sometimes you only get what you pay for. Not an everyday earing place but something slightly more special.Highly recommend you give it a try if you visit Melrose

Nice stop for food and drink after a lovely walk in the surrounding area. Wasn't a problem that we had walking boots, bit of mud and a four legged friend. Very welcoming and friendly staff with very tasty food, lamb rump and cutlets to die for. Highly recommend.

Could have a meat feast but excellent alternatives available. Had a light lunch in Bar too and that was thoroughly enjoyable. Wide range of good beers available for all tastes.

We were there following a funeral, the staff were very good and friendly, the buffet excellent. We stayed for snacks and drinks until very late, a pleasant experience after a distressing morning.

So impressed with Burt’s, we went there for a light lunch . Book or go early as it’s popular. Delicious homemade soup with bread and macaroni cheese with ham hock (starter portion) just wonderful, and service was prompt, very helpful and pleasant staff in attractive surroundings. What’s not to love!!

This is a good old-fashioned hostelry with welcoming and roaring log-fire, a well stocked bar and plenty of room. Another huge plus is they allowed in our small dog and no fuss made of this. The waitresses were keen , attentive and helpful and with my dislike of giant, fat chips assured me the Chef could rustle up some crispy twice fried wedges (perfect). They have home-made soups i.e. tomato & pepper and a fairly chunky Beef-Burger. Today restaurants have elevated this dish to a pricey £13--00 to £17---00 range, probably because steaks have zoomed up in price. This version had a lot of extras from cheese, onions, salad, bacon, coleslaw and relish etc etc. For sure you need to be hungry to finish this off BUT it was tasty and well served. There is a lot to like about this place and a return is planned. The only negative was the entrance of a traffic-warden looking to use the toilet, I was assured by the bar-man that he took "no prisoners", so we had to finish up quickly. The solution is not to park in the streets (1 hour maximum) but find a public car-park.

Stopped in for some lunch today. Friendly service with a good and varied choice of menu. Offers half portions of meals if more suitable. Brilliant value. Hot and cold options available. Felt like the teapot was bottomless, think it was 3 cupfuls in total!

Reasonable food which is just as well as the service was really slow. Only one person taking a tables order then putting the order through to the kitchen before doing the same for the next table, then the next one. Not what you would expect.

A weekend away in the Scottish Borders led to us unexpectedly finding this wonderful restaurant in the Yarrow Valley today. It was one of the best Sunday roasts we’ve had in years (delicious local beef and pork) and a seriously tempting menu focussed around local ingredients by Bryn Jones. The honey cake for dessert by @she.likesbaking was also incredible and I’ve only just realised that Oxana Jones is not only a wonderful front-of-house host, but also an extremely talented baker. Thank you to your team, it was a memorable lunch and we’ll definitely be back for one of your tasting menus and an overnight stay.

Great little spot with friendly staff and good home cooked food. Opted for the bigger breakfast and was impressed with the quality of the ingredients. Great vibe in the seating area and very handy as close to town centre. Decent value for money and set us up for the day.

Booked a table for Easter Sunday thinking it would be busy but it was surprisingly quiet. The staff were very welcoming and accommodating (jokingly wanted to steal our Easter eggs). The food was sensational and they didn't skimp on the portions. The mussel dish that arrived as one of the starters took two people to eat.
