Nice venue with friendly, helpful staff. Good, tasty food. There were 7 in our party and everyone was happy. They even gave our dog a bowl of chicken. So that made 8 of us.

Popped in for a quick drink and ended up staying for a meal because of how welcome we were made to feel. Came with our dog and she was made to feel like the princess she is. Mike couldn’t have been more helpful. He took our drinks order but also made sure our dog was catered for. He provided drink and treats for her which was much appreciated. The food arrived and my only issue was I wish I could’ve ordered several dishes. I had the gammon and my brother and husband had the sausages. The sausages looked amazing. Proper sausages. Our dog was over the moon to have her own ice cream. All the staff were so friendly and Mike was an excellent host. Already planning when we can return.

Absolutely disgusting. Raw bacon in fat on bread. Asked for it well done and crispy. The chef come over to apologise and started with us saying should have asked for it well done. I said I did. We left but came back in he was telling his customers? I would not advise going there, basic menu, disgusting food and terrible management. Would not have that food to a wild dog. I had a piece of bread do made a chip sandwich and he took my plate from me while eating ! Absolutely shocking

Manager unable to handle any form of criticism- bacon under cooked a kiss of life would of bought it back to life- came to apologise then proceeded to argue with us - big no no in hospitality! He said you should of asked for it well done- we did- well nobody else has complained- clearly they have by reading g these reviews! Maybe a quick hospitality course would serve you well- we won't be back and I'll be waning people away.

Met up with a friend with the intent to have tea. I was early and bought a drink, and asked for 2 menus. The bar person said she would check if the kitchen was still open?? Came back and said yes and handed me the menus which were grimy, Yuk. The place was empty (even though it was 6pm on a Thursday?) so I had choices. I tried 3 tables and they were all sticky, yuk. When my friend arrived, she went to the bar but no one was there and no one came when she shouted hello. After I told her about the filthy menus and tables we decided to share my drink and go elsewhere for food. Such a shame, it used to be such a lovely pub.

Came here yesterday with the wife. We had a couple of drinks at first then thought we would try the food. And glad we did had the steak and ale pie was excepting a frozen pie or a puff pastry lid, but was pleasantly surprised to have a homemade pie it looked very rustic. My wife had the fish and chips. Would recommend was very tasty and value for money. Will be returning

Very disappointed as been before previous year and it was so much better. The service was very good, however the bar was soaking wet with beer and all along the bar was sticky and wet. 4 pleasant ladies were working and it wasn’t busy so could have been cleaned!!! We sat outside as my grandson wanted to play on the little play area. It was disgusting with dog Pooh in many places on the play area. The play area and outside area was not kept tidy at all. Although the food was ok, we felt uncomfortable wondering how clean was the kitchen. There was plenty of staff working so a suggestion would be to start cleaning inside and outside and keep a constant check on the play area as this is a health risk!!!!

We visited for lunch and decided to have sandwiches which were nice. My issue was the tables all felt very sticky, we sat at three different tables to see if they were all the same, they were. I think it must be the cleaning product they clean the tables with. I’m sure the tables are clean, but they don’t feel very pleasant. On the day we visited the hot drinks machine was broken, hopefully it’ll only be a few days until it’s fixed.

My wife and I called into The Bunbury Arms for a light lunch after shopping at the nearby Cheshire Oaks. We were quickly shown to a table for two near a window. The pub was clean, warm and tidy and the staff friendly, smiley and polite. Off the starter menu we ordered one portion of chicken wings and one operation of creamy, garlic mushrooms together with a portion of fries. The food came quickly and both dishes were very good. The garlic mushrooms were excellent. Together with a round of drinks and a latter coffee the bill came to just over £19, so £22 with a tip. Excellent value for money. Well worth a visit.

I absolutely loved the meal I had here. Its a lovely old fashioned pub a bit off the beaten track on a country road not far from cheshire oaks. We went and tried the place out based on a recommendation from a friend who said it has been took over and raved about its food. While there isnt a great deal of different meals on the menu they are all cooked to a very high standard. Today we went and had the Sunday roast and it was without doubt one of the nicest I have ever had. I'm quite fussy and don't like chain pubs, much prefer places like this. Everything was cooked exactly right and the flavours really shone as a result. Chantenay carrots which I love, half a dozen or so perfect roast potatoes a homemade yorkshire pudding and a cheese/cream sauce in addition to the gravy that really set the meal off. Parsnips were perfect and the broccoli too. I couldnt criticise anything, it wasas close to perfect as you could get for a roast. Its a shame they are stuck with the rating out of date reviews on here because they should be far higher in the rankings based on the current owners. Effortlessly better than any of the cheshire oaks 'restaurants' which generally serve fancy takeaweay food, nothing and charge twice as much as here in some cases. would recommend to anyone. make the effort one sunday and book a table as it gets busy and you will be pleasantly surprised i'm sure.

Visited on Saturday with our granddaughter for a meal whilst staying down the road at Chester Fairoaks Caravan site. The place is dog friendly which was great however we were in a small room at the front of the pub because we had the dog which is fair enough but I would have preferred to be in the other area of the pub. However, it doesn't detract from the 5 rating because it is our doing that we had the dog with us and we were grateful to be able to eat indoors in January. Moving on to the service and the food, it was great. The food was very tasty with home made deep fried chips, like your Mum used to make ! Our granddaughters portion was huge and the staff made a real fuss of her which was lovely. In fact the service from both the landlady and the young lady who served us was faultless and we would def return again and would recommend the place to others too.

We've given this one mark because of the service performed by one member of staff who was performing bar duties, serving those dining in, clearing tables etc, you name it, she was doing it. The food was terrible. my starte the black pudding was OK but my partners Squid came with a thimble of sauce and she gave up chewing it after 5 minutes. The burgers were dry and over cooked, the chips were burnt and the onion rings were swimming in oil and made us both feel sick. Tables, glasses and salt and pepper pots were grimy. Maybe we just got these at a bad time. But we won't be returning for a retrial. Sorry The Bunbury.

Booked on line for table for 2 today for lunch with a friend. Pub was not busy so we’re greeted by very friendly young man who gave us menus and invited us to sit where we wanted. Haven’t been here for some time and noticed it felt a little chilly when we first sat down. Friend ordered scampi and chips I ordered pie of the day which was turkey ham and leek with mash and veg. Friends meal was delicious (so she told me) and piping hot whereas mine was only just warm and whilst the pie tasted delicious (the only reason I didn’t send it back) the pie sauce was like watery soup, very very thin, which was a real shame. I noticed other reviews have said the same. The mash was also very artificial tasting and not very warm, which again was a shame given the gorgeous chips (think they were homemade- I tried one from my friend). Service was great from host but when I told the young waitress clearing the plates about my pie she just said she’d tell the chef and that was it. Wasn’t asked if we wanted any more drinks or asked if we wanted desserts. Would defo go back, but wouldn’t have the pie again.

5 friends from 2 families decided to go for a Sunday meal. Table booked for 5 pm. Arrived to find not overly busy. Ordered drinks and food, 4 roast dinners and 1 cider, apple and pork pie. Meals arrived, timing ok at this stage. Roast dinners were not very hot but the meat was tender and ok. The pie however, was watery and when we complained this was removed from the bill. Our plates were collected and whilst the waitress was very nice, she did not ask if we wanted desert. It then took over 30 minutes to get a member of staff that we could order deserts from! We then ordered, but after 20 minutes waiting for them to arrive, we went to the bar, cancelled dessert and asked for the bill. While waiting for the bill, the manager walked past and quite aggressively and sarcastically commented that our desserts were being prepared, said about being understaffed and thanked us for our understanding. This did note bode well for another visit!!It is worth noting that this is a reflection of the manager, not the 2 waiting on staff who were most helpful and extremely busy. We appreciate that most places are understaffed right now, but shouldn’t the bookings reflect this?

Had lovely and enjoyable meal at Bunbury arms today. Roast pork dinner was very good and great value. So was the halloumi salad my partner had.Staff were great, polite and pleasant.Beer was good and reasonably priced. One Comment tho guys. My partner was on a mobility scooter and has a disability. It was a hot day and I had walked quite a hike and with covid being an issue for us we would only ever eat outside in the beer garden. There's no access at all to any of the beer garden tables for customers on wheel chairs or mobility scooters. My partner did manage to leave her scooter on the path and walk up some step and across lawn to sit on a soft cushioned seat the staff allowed me to take out from the bar for her. This is just not an option for many who have to stay in chairs or scooters. I had a look around and thought it would not take much to introduce some wheel chair friendly seating with maybe some signage reserving them for the disabled. All in all a lovely meal out for us, Thanks

We came over to Chester and stayed on the campsite near Cheshire oaks. Just down the lane a 15 minute walk to Stoak we arrived at the bunbury arms. We sat in the lovely beer garden at the back, had a few drink then went to order our food. We were told that the chef had stopped serving and had to leave due to personal reasons We were rather miffed. We got another drink, pondering were to eat as it was our last night and we have said for 8 years visiting we would give it a go. Cat the server came out to say the owner had stepped in to avoid disappointment so we got to eat after all. We got a table in the beautiful restaurant which was spotless. We went for the blackpudding, chorizo and peppercorn sauce stack and I had the calamari then the vegetarian sunday lunch and the chicken and leek pie with fresh vegetables. I must say it is one of the nicest bar lunches we have had in a while. The vegetables were cooked to perfection the bean and potato patty was lovely and the chicken and leek pie was delishous. Called in advance to book a table, told we’d be seated outside under the pergola which was ideal. Arrived on site to be told quite abruptly that you can’t book a table outside. No idea why they allowed us to this this over the phone and then spoke to us like you were lying! Checked website and requesting a outdoor table is an option on the booking system too! Not a great first impression! Service was slow, pub was obviously understaffed and staff were rather stressed! Food arrived quite quickly and was nice, but nothing special. Would probably just call for drinks next time as garden is lovely. Young lady who served us was very pleasant.

Pre booked in advance for me and my partner, was told to sit outside upon arrival and wait for somebody to come and take our order for drinks. 45 minutes and still nobody. Walked in the pub to ask if I could order from there, was told rather patronisingly to wait outside and somebody would be there to take my order. When I mentioned that we had been there for 45 minutes already the lady grinned and said well it’ll be another 10 minutes atleast. Me and my partner and another 2 couples arrived at roughly the same time and we all left at the same time without even a drink. Terrible waste of time

Lovely pub with nice surroundings but unfortunately there will be no return. Prices fairly high for the quality of food and drinks are pricy. Some Customers walk freely in and out of the pub with no masks. Possibly local regulars as they were not challenged. No covid check in and staff had no masks. Although one did have a badge to say exempt. Real shame . Reviewed a few years back and it a lovely place to eat but sadly not now.

We have been here a few times now and I personally really enjoy my time there. Not been inside much by its really nice in there and the outside space is exceptional and its how a country pub should be, good staff, plenty of seats and tables, the food is varied from tapas style to classic pub food. The 'hand made' chips are amazing! they should be renamed as 'home made'. well done to the Chef on those.Very welcoming staff. At the time of writing you can go in and order at the bar but they have to (by law) take your drinks to a table for you or they could get a £10k fine. The service has alsways been very quick for drinks and good for food since they have to cook it of course. There is a play area yes, but it would lend itself to younger kids say up to 5 years (there is a bigger park just a quick walk away though). Its good though as we have a 4 and 7yo and some play areas are just not nice to in proximity to.Cant wait to bring our kids here on a weekend and we will walk alone the canal, see the horses in the nearby fields and maybe walk towards the Chester Zoo route (we spotted a bear, and dears today). Its a handy pub to cycle past either from Ellesmere Port from the boat museum or the Chester side. there is also a park near the canal for the kids to walk down to and although its down a lane is not that busy. Can't fault it. Thanks guys and see you soon for a San Miguel and PinotKaren + Jamie

Waited over 1.5 hours for our food. A simple word of explanation would have helped. Food pretty indifferent when it finally arrived. Such a pity as it could be a lovely place if only it sorted its management/kitchen out.

I went to this lovely pub with my two children today and ordered 2 cokes to sit outside. My daughter was winding me up so I took my coke and went to get 5 minutes in the car. The woman manager then storms over to my car and starts accusing me of trying to rob her glass. Even though I wasn't going anywhere and my daughter was still in there beer garden. She proceeded to hurl abuse at me inform of my kids so I hurled abuse back. Her son then flew at me and got about a cm away from my face I could could feel his warm breath touching my face. Bear in mind there is a sign up tell there customers to keep distance because of covid. I have had to go and get myself a covid test. He was calling me a tramp and she was calling me a ellesmere port scally even though I live in neston. I have then pushed the man out of my way. This is all I front of my two children. I finally get away from them and as I settle down tonight the police knock on my door to do a welfare check as they rang police and told them I was drunk. Even though I ordered two cokes from THERE PUB. I have asked the police to watch the cctv and watch how these two people man and a woman behaved at there own pub in covid times and put in complaint myself. Please avoid at all costs these people are vile. !!!!! Pleae see picture of my daughter and our cokes.

Lovely food, well organised, great experience. It must be so difficult in the hospitality industry during this period of lockdown , however The Bunbury have managed to create a lovely welcoming outdoors area, the pagoda has individual heaters to keep the chill off too. We visited in April as a group of five - we had prebooked, so our table was ready for our arrival, we all decided on burgers (there are eight different varieties to choose from !! ) the food arrived swiftly and was absolutely delicious, the chips were extra special . We stayed drinking til 9.30 cos it was such a lovely evening . Thanks to all the staff for making our evening so enjoyable and well done on coping in such difficult times we will definitely be back Debbi, Paul, Ray, Lynne and Mark

Food lovely. Staff really attentive and couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. I don't get the negative reviews as certainly not our experience. Will definitely come back. All I can say is shame on those who booked at table for a 50th who didn't turn up. You're a disgrace but your loss was our gain.

Myself and some work friends visited last week and were pleasantly surprised indeed. Nice surroundings. Well priced drinks and food. The chips were delicious and clearly home made. The new pergola was lovely, especially with the addition of little heaters above each table.

Arrived here earlier in the week for a nice meal for two of us. Sun was shining, garden was beautiful and well kept. The new addition of the pergola was fantastic. You can see an effort had been made during hard times. We ordered our drinks and they arrived promptly! There was a reduced menu but still plenty to choose from. Food arrived within a reasonable time considering it was quite busy. Food was delicious! Plate was empty. The staff and the landlady were pleasant, friendly, helpful..nothing was too much. Would definitely recommend!

We arrived for our booking and the only thing I have to say that’s nice about this place is the look of the building. It was beautiful! And the weather was nice.... But that’s it. (The reason for at least 1 star) We were definately lead into a false sense of security I can tell you! We were asked to sit at our table and was greeted with a dirty ashtray full of cigarette stubs (not health and safety/covid friendly)My husband ordered drinks and they arrived within 10 mins. (Good start)We then allowed out children to go and play, they had a mini playground that was suitable for under 5 year olds. I was not impressed with the fact that other parents thought it was ok to try and touch my children (trying to get their kids to mix with mine helping them on the playground) and had a total disregard for social distancing! One woman was Trying to infiltrate my personal bubble/table and talk to us when they were half cut and responsible for a child with additional needs! The tables where not sturdy and I did not feel safe/comfortable on them. The computer system failed when we were trying to put our food order through, so we were told a member of staff would come over to our table to manually take orders.... half an hour went by, nobody had even acknowledged us! But food and drinks orders were flying out to people around us. In amongst this a waitress had managed to spill a whole tray of drinks over a lady in a table behind us! After almost an hour waiting (bearing in mind you only get a table for 2 hours) we had had enough and got up to leave. The staff saw us leave, one waitress even bumped into me and they didn’t even acknowledge us! There was no apology, nothing! It was the first time my family had attempted to have a meal out since lockdown. And we were beyond disappointed, we travelled 20 miles to get there. I can understand that with covid measures (supposed) to be in place, we were willing to be more patient and expected longer wait times. But what we endured was terrible service with total lack of communication and customer service. Unfortunately we didn’t get the opportunity to try the food. So I cannot comment on that. But based on our experience, we will definately NOT be visiting again or recommending this place to anyone. My honest opinion would be to avoid!

We had a lovely Family meal here, I would highly recommend!! Food, drinks and service was fantastic and we could not fault any of it considering how hard it must be to work in hospitality at the minute and how busy the pub was. Brilliant outdoor seating area and every table was full with happy customers. All staff were very friendly and the children’s area was great!

We arrived at 18:30, we stood by the ‘Please wait here to be seated’ sign...10 minutes later after several of the staff walked passed and ignored us we took matter into our own hands and went to find a member of staff ourselves. By now it’s 18:40, we told the young lad we just wanted drinks and we’ll be gone for 19:15 as we had a table booked elsewhere. We sat and chatted amongst ourselves for a while. Some 15 minutes later another member of staff came up to us and asked if we’d ordered a ‘Pinot’...we hadn’t, but we dropped the hint that we hadn’t ordered anything yet..he plodded off. The table next to us had their food delivered, they were out celebrating their 50th anniversary, we watched them not touch their food...they had serious issues with the quality. By now we’d had enough of hoping that someone would take our order as time was running away from us, so we stopped a young girl to take our order. When the drinks arrived, the manager was talking to the group on the next table (I think one of them has wrote a review too below ⬇️). The treatment of those customers from that female manger was absolutely disgusting. If someone is calmly complaining about the massive wait AND the shocking quality of your food, you DO NOT argue with them, you do not blame other people, you do not blame other members of staff and you do not tell them it’s Boris Johnson’s fault. You should stand there, take it on the chin and apologise profusely. If you had handled that situation better and offered them some sort of compensation rather that being arrogant and childish, I reckon those 4 people and the 4 people in our group maybe would have come back one day. But you made a show of yourself and your whole team so I can guarantee all 8 of us will never come back. Your argument of ‘well your not paying now’ to try and stop them complaining is definitely not the right way to go. I spent many years in the hospitality sector and I’ve never seen anything like it. You should be ashamed of yourself as a business person. So, here’s some tips for you:Get a member of staff Front of House, welcoming people so they’re not stood too long trying to guess what the situation is. Have them stationed there all night, if need be they can do some waiting on or bar service, even cleaning tables, but majority of the time, at the little desk being the representative of your business. Make the members of staff have a uniform or a name badge, something that shows they work there. The fella in a green T-shirt, jeans and trainers doesn’t look like member of staffAsk your staff not to spend too much time chatting to her mates instead of serving customers. Don’t blame Boris the Clown for your chefs inability to cook chips. They were burnt and soggy. Own the situation and take responsibilityDon’t blame the ‘new’ girls, you train them well enough to cope. When someone is new or training, it’s the trainers fault when the trainee does something wrong. Always. Your pub wasn’t overly busy, I was expecting it to be heaving, but it wasn’t. God help you on a hot bank holiday weekend. Hire more staff. People are desperate for jobs, get more people in. Send staff home if it’s quieter than you thought but don’t set up for the first Saturday night after a lockdown with minimal staff. If you don’t want people to ‘table hop’, get your newly appointed Front of House member to tell them that they’re not to. Explain this as you seat them, even use Covid as the excuse. You do not tell other customers that they’re food is inedible because some lads have moved..they won’t care, it’s not their problem. I reckon the money you lost last night you could have had 2 or 3 extra staff paid for. Just something to think about.

We stayed in Cheshire Oaks and this place was close to where we stayed that did a full English breakfast so naturally went here. The queue for ordering was quite busy and the one server on the bar was really coping well considering she was the only one available to take orders. I ordered our breakfasts and for the price, you really can’t complain at all but they really could do with more staff. We waited over forty minutes for a full English breakfast and scrambled eggs on toast. When we had it, the one server apologised for the wait but again, no fault of his own as he was also the only one serving and there were tables ranging from two people to eight people. The food wasn’t hot but wasn’t stone cold either but like other tables, drinks were finished before having breakfast. The only thing the place lacks is staff. If the two on breakfast today, had some support, even just an extra pair of hands, there would be more support not only to the staff working but to the benefit of the customer too.

This was one of the worst restaurants I’ve ever been to. The cheese pie tasteless and it was something to be desired. It was mushy and the pastry was rockhard and strange looking .Burgers tasted fishy. Suffice to say I was ill after it so I’m not tempted to order food there again.one positive note is that the cakes are okay.
