Both had fish n chips. Fish was nearly all thick batter little fish inside.Chips where soggy white, didn't taste good, nothing like the usual crispy ones. We Complained to the Staff , just said she would report it. Nothing done about it. If that would have been my first time, would not return

My parents went for Friday Night Fish Night & were very disappointed! They have been many times & always been good but not this time! Dad's fish came & it was 3/4 batter, 1/4 fish. Nobody asked if the meal was okay during service, it was only when plates were being cleared were they asked? Dad told them about the fish & the batter was still on his plate & the response was "oh sorry we will knock something off the bill". On paying the bill, the cost of a coffee, £3, was knocked off, really??? I know it was £3 but it wasn't the coffee that wasn't nice. Dad told the landlady as he was leaving about the fish & he was asked to not let that stop them from coming again!

Cheese and onion and steak and ale pies had soggy pastry due to microwave heating (?). Chips were greasy and unattractive and mushy peas were pale and tasteless. Large portions but definitely quantity rather than quality. Staff pleasant but not recommended.

We do a walk round here regularly so was really looking forward to trying the food here. However, we felt disappointed. When we was showed to the table it was really sticky and needed cleaning again. Not the best start in these covid times! My partner had fish and chips, which on the whole he enjoyed - he said the batter was a tad soggy underneath but he ate it all and loved the chips. I had the homemade steak and kidney pie. The filling was very nice, plenty of it with rich gravy but the shortcrust pastry was dry, hard and tasteless and for the money I was really disappointed! The couple next to us ordered sticky toffee pud but discreetly had to send back as it was frozen in middle, this then deterred us from ordering one. It is a shame as this pub is a stand alone country pub with absolutely no competition around it, but it really does need to do better. Afraid I won't be rushing back.

We went with friends for the first time on Wednesday...and it will not be the last! We were warmly welcomed. The food was excellent and portions so generous we said we will share a main meal between two the next time we visit. The Bulls Head is a traditional pub, with their own chef, therefore the pride is taken, not just in the food, but in the service and presentation too. We could not understand how there were any detractors writing reviews, especially about the chips as we all thought they were simply the most delicious chips ever!! The prices are reasonable too. We give it five stars. Thanks to all.

This olde world pub is located just off Huddersfield Road close to M62 J21, and we met up with the daughter and her boyfriend (yeah, I know...naughty - go and tell Boris) and despite the photos on their website not really filling me with confidence, we were quietly surprised how nice the food was here. I had the Ogden Pastie, if on the special's board - recommended - full of meet and vegetable and enormous. And the missus had the Tikka Massala. Came warm, and the service was pleasant.

After a walk around the reservoirs you'll be hungry and this is the place to go.Good beer and traditional pub dishes here. The chips are supplied in a bowl to share which I liked. Very good pies - the cheese and onion is a fine example of a North West favourite, as verified by Mrs rr4m who is from GM/Lancs. I like traditiional Northern food so enjoyed it a lot. The decor is a little, shall we say, traditional too but that's a good thing in my book. Good beer If you prefer a bland chain pub then this place is not for you

Front of house was fab... no comments, fish and chips me and my girlfriend recurved was embarrassing... frozen fish ‘ watery ‘ soggy batter... blank... got one small pot of chips between two? Full of oil which was also sat at the bottom of the bowl.. if your the head chef and your reading this, you should be embarrassed with yourself.. the fryer does all the work.. and you can’t even get that right? Nearly £40 for two fish and chips and drinks? I strongly invite you to come to my restaurant and I’ll show you how to correctly work a fryer... disgusting. You would be better off going to ‘ the Ivory ‘ in Manchester WHICH IS THE SAME PRICE and not like your sat in someone’s front room on the person next to you’s leg.

Called in for lunch on a wet miserable day. It’s a cosy and friendly traditional pub in a tiny hamlet, not too far from Newhey with its bus and tram links. Also handy for refreshments after a stroll in the Piethorne valley when the weather is good. There’s a menu to suit all appetites and our food was freshly cooked and tasty. As for the beer once again the choice was a lager type beer or not worth drinking a decent real ale wooould be a good addition but in all a lovely evening and the staff where first class, so we will be paying them another visit

Just eaten here, arranged to meet the wife who was walking the dog. Arrived first, went in and asked “do you do Proseco by the glass” yes came the reply. I then received a small bottle at £5.50. Ordered food for eating outside on the fine sunny evening. Sat at a table, smelt of creosote. Wife arrived in her lemon trousers and top, sat down with the dog. Just before the food arrived we noticed the dog had creosote on her head and back from going under the bench. Wife stood up and turned round and her backside was also covered in creosote. The waiter arrived, same one I had given my order to, we said we were just about to move as the table and bench were still wet underneath with creosote. His reply was “Oh as it soaked through”. No apology or anything else. So one pair of trousers and a top in the bin, one dog requiring a bath on return home.

I went here for tea with my mother. We waited about half hr for our food. When it arrived the chips were burnt and soggy, dripping in fat! My gammon tasted burnt but wasn’t burnt to look at. The vegetables looked like they had been frozen, definitely wasn’t fresh. The cauliflower was luminous yellow and tasted worse than baby food mushy peas what came with the fish looked inedible brown/dark green colour. When I told the waiter the gammon tasted burnt he said he will let the chef know! The place looks nice from the outside and is in a beautiful setting. I walk around the reservoirs regularly as I was brought up near there. Very disappointing, my 6 yr old daughter could of made better food. Won’t be returning.

Having read the reviews I thought this would be a suitable place to go for a family meal for some home cooked food and a friendly smile. We (a family of 5) was seated and drink orders taken, all going well. Then as the drinks arrived the staff started to take pictures and other ornaments off the wall to dust them at the table next to us!!! The food we ordered arrived and they continued to take the pictures down and spray the walls with some sort of cleaner and scrub the walls!!! Now surely any maintenance of the pub should be completed when the pub is closed???Sadly we all felt like we were an inconvenience. The food was good (even with a hint of lemon fresh). Maybe on a different day we would of had a different experience but on this occasion it wasn't the best.

Seven of us met for a birthday meal. The first table we were given was really tightly seated, but they said if we waited ten minutes we could have the large table in the "front lounge". We did, and it was worth waiting for, because there were just two tables in that area. It took a while to take our orders and for the meals to arrive, but it was a leisurely evening and this did not concern us.Starters chosen were pate, prawn cocktail, soup and garlic mushrooms. Good price at an average of £4, but nicely served and plentiful portions. For mains our choices were steak pudding (huge - twice the size you see in a chip shop), fish and chips, salmon and I chose the duck breast. All the meals were very filling, hot and with choices of potatoes, home made chips (worth choosing this option) and individual dishes of vegetables. My duck was cooked in orange and was absolutely delightful. There was a good range of about ten desserts. The service throughout the evening was excellent, and the entire bill for seven, including drinks, was only £150. We will definitely return here, preferably when the weather is a bit warmer!!

Huge home-made portion !!Everything is served with potatoes or chips - and veg or mushy peas. all home made. There are no frills about the place, and its very down to earth.sunday I had the burger on the specials board, and while it was OK, it wasn't anything special. My partner had the fish platter, a variety of fish all covered in breadcrumbs and deep fried. Again he said that was OK but not a ptach on the beef pudding which he loves.Would I recommend - yes for sure. But stick to their traditonal pies !They also do a full pudding range which is in a chiller in the back - I am also far too full to try one though.
