Went with our two grandchildren, who were so looking forward to having pizza and the cookie dough dessert. The place was deserted which wasn't a good sign. The waitress came and told us that 3 of the main dishes were off the menu, including the pizza which they had run out of! Very disappointed kids. We ordered our main meals which were I must admit were very good. Came to ordering our desserts, and they were out of cookie dough! Kids now pretty fed up. However we all ordered the raspberry and apple crumble. After nearly 10 minutes the waitress said the chef had made the topping and realised they didn't have the fruit filling!! Unbelievable. We left, all extremely annoyed and disappointed. Never again.

Turned up about 5pm, mains were good, puddings were awful.. waited 35 mins to order them (all staff where behind the bar talking, looked at me and still ignored me), which I ended up going to the bar to order.. when we eventually got them, the brownie was burnt and hard and the strawberries on the cheesecake were frozen and inedible, when asked how they were, I told the waitress about them being burnt and frozen and the response I got was ‘yeah’. She didn’t care

Great service! Friendly staff and the food was a cut above for a relaxing afternoon lunch. We had food from the lunch menu which includes a drink from a selection offered, for £1. The meals were reasonable priced and cooked and presented well and most importantly served promptly! Well worth a visit if passing through.

Recently had a meal there for a table of 6 to celebrate a birthday. Lots of options on the menu to suit all of my family members. All really pleased with the food. Chef Tom even came out of the kitchen to check we were all satisfied with our meals. Couldn’t fault a thing. To top it off, great value for money and fab service from the bar staff.

I have recently become a local at this pub I love coming here after I finish work always very friendly service good beer and good food. Toilets are always clean and smell fresh.

Tom the chief came out to ensure all was satisfactory with the food he had prepared. Was lovely food the homemade soup wow. Hilda our little dog really enjoyed her sausage.

The pub is recently under new management and it has clearly gone through a brilliant transformation with its new owners. They have created a lovely, friendly atmosphere where people are made to feel welcome by their staff team. The quality of the food has massively improved. A special thank you goes to the chef (think he said his name was Tom) as he went above and beyond with our meal and came to our table to ensure that we were pleased with what we had ordered. Will most definitely be coming back!

Worst meal ever. Waited 3 quarters of an hour for basic meals which were awful quality. The service was awful too. Then we were overcharged. No apology given. Do not eat here you have been warned!

Second visit to this lovely pub, last came with sister, so brought husband to sample their delicious food. Food excellent, mushroom and tarragon pudding was amazing with their exceptional sautéed potatoes, as I'm a vegetarian. Fantastic service and very clean place in all areas. Would highly recommend a visit to this lovely pub.

Great food, been here quite a few times and staff very friendly, although on this occasion only one girl serving food and waiting on all on her own, she did really well...Thank you for a lovely time. I cannot fault food at all.

Went with my son in law to watch the Liverpool game. Service was poor - not the poor girl serving both the bar and restaurant, she did her best but surely there should be more than one person serving? Also didn’t know that vaping was allowed in pubs now - this should be done outside not inside! Needs sorting.

Visited with my friend last week for the two course deal for £11.95. Excellent value for money!! I expected smaller meal sizes but we got the normal size. We both had hunters chicken and then a pudding to follow. Was good quality and staff who served us were very attentive.

Fantastic food , I had gammon hubby had mix grill all lovely and hot and the young lady that served us was lovely will definitely be back , lovely big pub lovely decor and has a outdoor playarea highly recommend

Festive menu 🎄 We booked for the festive menu to start our festive celebrations. Restaurant was decorated lovely for Christmas. We where greeted by a lovely friendly waitress who showed us to our table. We had a pate to start, followed by a lovely Christmas turkey dinner then Christmas pudding and arctic roll for pudding. Food was served hot, and plates full of tasty food. This meal was most defiantly worth the price 3 courses £ 23:95. We will be retuning dec 2024. Thank-you Bull and Dog for a lovely meal.

Had Christmas Dinner here with family. It’s was lovely!!! Great atmosphere and the service was superb!!! Thanks to everyone at the pub for making our day so lovely 🥰

Myself and two of my friends have been here many times over the years, and get together at this time every year for a Christmas lunch. Last 2 years were great, but this year was awful, a huge letdown. Had loads of trouble trying to book and pay deposit to begin with. I should’ve taken more notice of that. I had to complain to a manager who told me they have been taken over by a new company and all the staff are new. Arrived on time today and shown to table. What a letdown. In previous years the tables were dressed with festive decorations. There wasn’t a single thing on the table! Not even cutlery, and certainly no Christmas crackers! Loads of unruly children running round and screaming made it worse and this continued for the whole time we were there. We had pre-ordered our food but after 35 minutes I had to chase it and was told “it was being cooked”. I said we were having starters that did not need cooking so could it be checked. A container was then plonked on the table which contained cutlery and serviettes (not Christmas ones). Finally got starters after 45 minutes. They were ok. However, when main course arrived which was standard turkey Christmas dinner, it was barely warm and very underwhelming. Mostly vegetables and potatoes, with 2 small slices of turkey. We all agreed it was awful compared to previous visits. When I went to get the bill I was asked if everything was ok. When I replied no, not really, it was lukewarm and not very nice I did not receive any response, merely handed the bill which was incorrect as my deposit was not taken off the total. That was eventually sorted when it was found that the manager who had taken the deposit had logged it in the wrong name!! All in all very disappointing, a waste of money, and we will not be returning.

Visit every Wednesday for the pub quiz with friends. Such a lovely local pub with very friendly staff who like to get to know their customers. They have good drink deals and a wide selection available. Definitely recommend.

Stopped to day for Sunday Lunch, was.nice but the Beef was very tough. Did not want to give feedback to staff as the rest of the dinner was fine. Will go back again.

Sorry to say but the food was awful, my starter was mozzarella sticks with no cheese inside, my husbands chicken strip starter smelt and tasted like fish obviously cooked in same fat. My daughter ordered the trio of starters. Didn't have one she chose so picked another one which then came out wrong. The croutons in the ceaser salad were just dripping in fat. Disgusting. My main tikka masala was dry and not much of it. The naan bread they use is ridiculous the size of the plate cold which made my rice go cold quick and just dough. Husbands main was mixed grill, came with no sausage forgot to put it on, all the meat was tough and no seasoning. Desserts, daughter option not available again like her starter. We had sticky toffee pudding, edges hard and hard to eat. Overall it was awful, obviously the chef has no experience and should not be working in a kitchen. Then told he was the head chef. He needs to be sacked. The waiter was the only good thing about this place, very polite, you could see he was embarrassed for everything that went wrong. Definitely will not return unless they hire a new chef with experience.

Had my dad's celebration of life here on August 11th. The owners and staff were wonderful. Everyone enjoyed the buffet lunch. The garden is absolutely amazing and it kept the kids in our party occupied for hours, while the adults remembered my dad. It's a perfect location as the crematorium is only around the corner. Thank you to all the staff!

very poor management avoid not good best thing they could do is leave the pub before its totally got a bad name its hard to get a good name and it was the guy before who built it up think is name is keith but these peop[le are killing the place food looks terrible i wouldn't want to eat it the dog would probs turn his nose up

Portions were tasty but served at a subatomic level. Would have felt better nourished having a single walkers crisp for dinner

We attend a funeral at the bull and dog there was a wedding taken place at the same time the pub was under staffed with long delays at the bar the buffet which cost £300 was very poor and disappointing overall not a very good...

Booked our Wedding reception in May & payed the deposit on 15th June. We picked the Gold Buffet , organised Prosecco. On the day (31st July) , there was also a large funeral party booked ,not a great combination for either party!! We had to relocate from the restaurant to the bar area. We dropped in for lunch and we were very impressed with the food, so tasty, would happily recommend going here for a bite to eat, top marks!

Fantastic place to eat and have a pint came for a Sunday roast the staff are so friendly nothing is too much for them even demanding kids. The lamb was cooked to perfection, potatoes soft and fluffy inside it all just melts in your mouth. The portions really generous too. There is a well equipped outdoor seating area with a playground for kids and mini football pitch. All round great place for the family would highly recommend this place if you are in the area or passing through. Very cosy with modern decor but not over the top gives this place a homely feel.

This is a fantastic place to eat. Not only is it lovely food but the staff are so welcoming. It was my little boy's birthday and the lady who served us made a little fuss of him - thankyou so much. I cant wait for rhe summer, the play area outside looks great and the fact that I can take my dog is an added bonus.

Excellent service and lovely food. The roast dinner is one of the best I’ve had! The portions were more than generous…the choice of meats and sides are excellent…especially the pigs in blankets. The restaurant is very clean and festively decorated a lovely round table enhanced our experience The only criticism I have of this visit…several customers were stood immediately outside of the main entrance, either side of the door and smoking…they were exhaling across our path and coughing. In times like this - COVID - a smoking point away from the entrance should be provided. Having a cloud of smoke hitting our faces as we left, slightly spoilt our visit ☹️

Met up with friends for the festive lunch and it was excellent. Food was well presented and tasty. Service was exceptional and our server was superb, sorry I can’t remember her name. We will be back in the new year.

Great pub, lovely ambience thanks to a gent providing background music who was really good. Really clean and lovely accommodating staff.The Sunday lunch was delicious, I had a nut roast and my boyfriend chicken on the bone. Both came with roast potatoes, green beans, stuffing, carrots, Yorkshire pud, carrot & swede mash, gravy and red cabbage. The portion were generous and the food was hot and well presented. Can recommend the pinot grigio too! We will definitely visit again.

My wife and I called in at the Bull and Dog today. We were first through the door to a wonderful welcome and beautiful smile from the waitress. That set the tone for the rest of the meal. We were served promptly, and then an equally cheerful and helpful genet (manager?) came over to describe the menu. My wife had lasagne which she said was better that the ones we had in venice, and I had a Cambodian curry (absolutely delicious). It makes such a big difference when the staff are pleasant, and we thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the experience. This restaurant is now on our favourites list!

I have just eaten the worlds driest chicken sucked all of the moisture out of my body, not surprising really as the food was an hour late! Booked for 28 people enough SEPERATE tables for 20 people? This is not a restaurant more of a large pub, possibly with a small kitchen? Asked for some condiments got the little paper ones you get in McDo alds. Aunt Bessy most love this place!

Went back last night as we went earlier in the week and had a good experience. We noticed that you could tack dogs in so this time we took our dog with us . On arrival we were told we could only eat in the bar area but because my son is under 18 we had to sit in the snug only to find the tables were so small we’ve have been lucky to fit one plate on so decided to sit in the outside dining area. Went back in ordered our food and drinks and went back to our table only then we was informed that when our meals were ready we would have to go in an collect them ourselves baring in mind we’ve paid the same price as a customer sat inside having their food and drinks served too them. When the manager came to see us the question was asked on collecting our food and we happened to drop one off the tray what would happen and was informed that we would have to buy another meal.

I visited recently for lunch with my friend and her six year old son. We had to sit outside as the restaurant was fully booked and unfortunately there were no empty tables in the bar area. This was a good sign as it shows how busy this pub is, even on a Tuesday lunchtime. However - we were more than happy with sitting outside as it was a warm summer’s day and her little boy enjoyed playing on the well equipped playground. There is even a large area for older children to play football on, as many were doing. The food arrived very quickly and was extremely good value for money. The food menu is extensive and a wide range of drinks are also on offer. This is a great pub to visit for food or drinks, whichever takes your fancy.

Visited with visiting family. We’re seated at once , drink order was taken & delivered in no time. Food order was taken and we all had different items from the menu. Food didn’t take long as was delivered hot. We chose a sweet and again this was delivered quickly. We had service with a smile and 100% for the kitchen staff for serving delicious food!

Visited twice on a tuesday lunchtime. Both times the pie was off, as was the gammon , as was the steaks. Apparently the delivery van hadn't come.The food is fine as is the service, just seems odd that a pub doesn't have food as advertised. Also a real bugbear now for me is that good old fashiond sandwiches are non-existent these days. Tuna Mayo, Egg Mayo, ham, cheese, beef ?? Instead we get 'fish fingers' or 'steak and onion' etc.

Absolutely 100% input by all the staff including glass collectors to KP. Fantastic buffet at an affordable price ( ELAINE). Initially went in to watch an England match and decided to call again for a family meal. Very nice food selection, lovely decor and outside areas, and super friendly staff All in all a great place to eat and drink

Lovely spacious pub, extremely clean and well kept. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the service was first rate.The food was very well presented, hot, tasty with generous portions, I could only manage a main I was so full, I was disappointed!Will definitely visit again.

I booked the evening meal for the family of 8 we were celebrating my daughters birthday. we have been previous and enjoyed meals before but they have now also upgraded the outside patio area which now looks fabulous and is partly enclosed so you don't get wet, the Staff were very friendly and professional "thank you to Nancy and Graham" they brought out our birthday cake at the end with plates and forks whilst they also play "Happy Birthday" over the audio speaks we played tag outside for approx 40mins after the meal with the grand children before going home very happy.Thank you again.

We visited the Dog and Bull after a lovely day trip to Martin mere . The staff were really friendly and the beer garden is fantastic. A lovely big space with safe play equipment for the kids. We felt really safe here and had a lovely early evening dinner. Highly recommended!

First time visiting the bull & dog. just me and some old friends having a catch up. couldn't fault the food reasonably priced didn't wait long after we ordered although they were very busy. all the staff are lovely and really helpful. it was my friends birthday and he brought a cake with him Lisa got us some trays from the kitchen so we could all take a bit home with us so special thanks to Lisa and also Rob who kept us steady with the beers. Thanks guys! Will definitely book again.

Great value lunch on outdoor terrace. Really impressed at what Dog & Bull have done to accommodate for Covid-19 restrictions. Staff super friendly too.

Me and the mrs went here on the 24th of April and it was absolutely super couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The staff were lovely, the food was cooked beautifully and the playground outside was amazing for my mrs 8 year old sister to play on which kept her entertained for hours. All in all can’t say anything bad about my visit the only thing I wish for is that I could go more often.

The staff where very rude, took 2hours to get a portion of chips and garlic bread. Will never been Returning to this pub absolute disgrace.

Awful visit here over the last two weekends. Been accused of taking drugs in the toilets which is completely untrue and a 2.5 hour wait on food as well as 45 min wait on drinks, when we asked about the bill we was told that because we had asked we was to pay the full price. Staff where helpful and attentive when needed but this was completely let down by the owners attitude and the fact we have been told after this that everything they done was on purpose, including the ridiculous wait on food. Any problem should be solved by speaking with the customer not by accusing people and making them feel uncomfortable. Considering we spent upwards of £300 the first weekend we will never return here again. Every person on our table has worked in the industry and we all couldn’t believe how they treated us even though they where so busy. If there was any drug issue it would of been nice of them to ask us not just accuse us as a way to get us to pay the bill. Not only did all of this happen the social distancing wasn’t in place and we had people unknown to us joining our table.

A long awaited meet up with friends. From first walking in we where greeted and made to feel welcome. Very busy but we expected that as everywhere is only just opening up again. Young lady that served us was very friendly, polite and smiley. Food was scrumptious and deserts even better. Thank you we had a wonderful afternoon catching up and we will definitely be back.

I would give 0 stars if I could. Me and a few friends went last night 24/04/21 (Bare in mind we went on the night of the 17th and spend probably in excess of £300) waited well over 2 hours for food and drinks. When the food finally came, one of the group members went in to complain to Keith (the owner) and was told tough you're paying anyway. We were then accused of taking drugs in the toilets and that we were lucky to be let back in last night. (I don't even touch drugs) We left after that as we waited another half an hour for drinks that never arrived. I even spoke to other customers in the beer garden who said themselves that the service was shocking!I will never return to this pub again and will be putting in a complaint to Punch aswell. Worst pub in Lancashire by far.

I am male in my 70s, advised to shield so I was happy to travel from Liverpool to Burscough, to take my wife so see her sister for a birthday celebration, outside, first meet since march 2020. One problem I had was I needed a toilet close by so my wife phoned for availabity of toilet access, the answer was "no problem, you are allowed inside if wearing a mask and take other precautions". We arrived on time, shown the table for 6, covid not mentioned at all. I sat down reassured there was a toilet nearby. Service was understandably slow, meal was average pub meal. menu said fish I was disappointed it was Hake but that was`nt the priority. after the meal thought better pay a visit, stood up and realised it was an urgent one. I put the mask on, gelled my hands and walked inside. I was met by the manager saying I was not allowed in. I explained I needed the toilet and he responded with "only ladies inside, men outside" .I repeated I need the toilet and I was told otherwise on the phone. I had no choice but to try and reach the outside toilet. I got there after some dribbling, entered to pitch blackness no windows and the light did not work, tried to find swt, was none. Too late the dam burst, failed to make the toilet and remove my pants so I was soaked. While I was trying to sort myself out the door opened and I heard a woman screech, no time to lock door. So I was the centre of attention walking back, humiliated. Did not want to mar my sister in laws birthday. So my wife and I left early in our newly polluted car. When I reached home I checked the web site out there was no mention of no men allowed rule. The rule turned be not only sexist but ageist as well as I leaned later that my younger male relatives sitting at other tables all used indoor toilets without being challenged.So do not go there if you are old, you might have your human right revoked.

Visited the Bull &dog after the first time in a few years due to very awful experiences .. but I have to say the change of food and service was amazing Pub grub but served well ..

If you are afraid of going out due to covid and want to go somewhere that is low risk.. then go here. Big wide open patio doors connect the main pub restaurant to a huge beer garden with tables spaced out miles from each other. Easy parking, pay by contactless card payment.. extremely friendly staff. Was my first time out of lockdown to go anywhere near a pub but it was pretty quiet for a Saturday afternoon. Scampi and chips to share for the wife and me which was delicious and piping hot. Couldn't fault it. Thanks for a five star experience.

We chose to eat here so the kids could play outside, they loved it and although social distancing didn't really happen between children, the tables were very well spread out. We just ensured they washed their hands properly before eating. The food was nice typical pub food, disappointing there was no steak left but all in all a good evening.

Live in Ormskirk and decided to go for lunch as in the area. Advised we could sit in the bar or restraunt so chose the bar, only 3 other people eating there. Chose a starter and 2 mains.Waited half and hour for the starter and then staff didn't collect the plate. I then had to ask the staff at the bar if we could have our mains as waiting. Barman told us he had "he had reminded chief and it should be long'. We are now the only ones eating in the bar.. As we had waited nearly 50 minsI asked the bar staff to cancel and offer us a refund. They said they would check how low g meal would be. Wasn't prepared to wait any longer.To be honest the staff had forgotten about us. They where to bust just chatting to 2 regulars at the bar to be bothered about us.Refund given will never visit reccomend the pub as the service was awful....

We went for an after-school tea as we were in the area. The friendly barmaid informed us that the restaurant area was out of bounds and to sit in the bar area - it was still a lovely area but I'm petrified of dogs and this was a dog-friendly area. There were also cleaning utensils left on the tables, despite the staff walking past them several times. The food came quickly and was well-presented. Unfortunately, it really wasn't the best - microwaved food that had been overdone, resulting in a suet pudding that was rock-hard. All of our chips were undercooked too. Such a shame as the venue is gorgeous and the staff were genuinely lovely. Maybe it was an off-day so we'll try again one day - just maybe concentrate on cooking the food properly instead of microwaving it!

Eight of us visited the Bull and Dog for refreshments and lunch after a funeral service at the nearby crematorium. We were very well looked after by Lisa, the Manager. The food was excellent and moderately priced. I would definitely recommend this inn.

If you like disgusting over priced food and a sleazy owner this is your place. If like me you enjoy delicious food at the same price with no sleaze go to the hop vine! I will never ever go again and raise a beer when your place closes it doors for good!

Food was lovely, arrived quickly all the staff where lovely an polite an where there if needed. Definitely would come again an recommend to anyone.

Better than it was after partial refurbishment a few years ago but still scruffy always too much litter outside and as a resident that lives near the pub the derelict buildings and waste ground behind the pub is a nightmare with no sign of it ever getting tidied up many better country pubs round this area

We visited on 20/07/2017 due to staying on the campsite nearby for the golf. Myself and 10 other friends were dining and was greeted straight away by a lovely young lady who looked after us all night. Very polite and attentive, Excellent service throughout and the food was excellent also. Great portion sizes and all freshly cooked food. Very impressed and will definitely recommend to friends and be returning again.

We went for a meal but informed that because one table had 9 people on it the kitchen couldn't cope with any more orders for over an hour and told to have a drink. When I turned to the guy next to me who also wanted to order food I felt what can only be described as spit on the back of my head. I can't prove it was them but certainly felt something

It's a shame as the place was renovated from the horrible dated scruffy dump it was before but still needs work derelict buildings at back and too much litter in car park - I have emailed them about this and was ignored - food average

First and foremost the customer service here is excellent as is the food. Safe to say a few feathers have been ruffled , hence the ridiculous spiteful reviews
