Quirky pub serving a good range of beer and cider. Industrial themed decor adds to the vibe. Can get quite busy

Very disappointing experience at Budo Ba, in terms of food, service, ambiance & value for money. We ended up spending £40 & having to go for supper elsewhere! Dishes were minimal & very salty, which was echoed by other diners. Hugely inflated prices for poor quality & quantity. An expensive mistake

The place itself is a small cosy room on top of the grapes pub, with a lovely atmosphere. The service was amazing, they were happy to talk through and explain the food and drink on the menu and were attentive throughout the night. The food itself was unbelievable and at a very reasonable price! My partner and I have been to many places in bath and this is definitely a new favourite, can’t wait to go back!

Great food, great drinks and great staff! You can do no better in Bath! This hidden little gem is an absolute winner! Be sure to check out the yuzu sake! Staff were friendly, helpful and gave great food recommendations. Sat the bar and had lovely conversations and could see the kitchen in action - clean and tidy! Can’t wait for our next visit!

Small number of tables, great variety on menu, every dish was a discovery, beautifully presented and delicious. Will be back. Great fish, vegetarian and meat options. Oh and try the sake... I asked for help started medium sweet/ dry moved to dry. Really interesting how the flavours complement the food. Great staff, service and price.

I came to here with my partner and we ordered 4 dishes (2/3 veg options for me) and (1 meat for him). Unfortunately although my meals came relatively quickly my partners didn't and I'd finished my food before his had even been made which completely defeated the object of going out and eating 'together'. The other major negative was the price. I paid £6 for half an aubergine and £6.50 for 4 very teeny butternut squash hash browns. The menu on the website which has dishes for around £4' is old and isn't the menu you get given in the restaurant all dishes apart from the rice start at around £6's. I spent £15's (not including a drink and felt like I'd eaten a starter rather than a main and I'm not a big eater! The restaurant was also quite cold which meant I had to keep my coat on which wasn't great. It also has an air bnb above it so it feels a bit like a tourist trap...on the basis of the prices and the disorganisation I'd sadly never go back. The only positive was that the food was well cooked, well presented and tasted great.

I’ve been trying to book a table for weeks and last week I was lucky enough to get one. Wow, was it worth the wait, I love Japanese food and this didn’t disappoint. Dave’s food is exceptional, the bream was to die for as was every other dish we sampled. His staff are also lovely, really friendly and knowledgeable. I can’t wait to go back, I’ve a sneaky feeling rhis Secret izakaya won’t be a secret for long.

One of my favourite places to eat in Bath. I come here almost weekly. It's an Izakaya- the food is always great, with excellent sakes. The atmosphere is very laid back, and there's great music in the background. Whether solo, or with friends, an enjoyable experience.

This is a true hidden gem of Bath! We have visited Japan many times so were excited to discover this izakaya in the middle of Bath. Dave and his team do a fabulous job of cooking to order an array of delicious Japanese cuisine. I recommend the clams, the mackerel and the green bean and sesame seeds salad. We didn't have a bad dish and we had many! The umechu and sake were also fabulous. Kampai!

Wow! This is Baths best kept secret! If you love small plates to share with friends, this is the place. Each dish is prepared with fresh ingredients, the flavours are sublime, makes you order more! The crab salad, prawns, Korean beef, mackerel, chicken thigh skewers to name a few are all exceptional. Can’t wait to go back. Wonderful service by Joelle and a very friendly chef from Seattle made this a perfect night with friends. Can’t wait to return! Well done guys.

Third time visiting and each time has been a treat. The changing menu keeps it exciting. Enjoyed the Kimchi pancakes but the pickled mushrooms are always our favourite. A great deal of thought and care seems to be put into each element. Love sampling all the different sake’s. Beautiful setting and friendly service and also a top playlist! A selection of vegan options but a couple more would be welcomed.

My boyfriend and I tried this restaurant on a Saturday evening, just as it reopened after lockdown. I couldn’t recommend it enough! The food is not only so full of flavour but the dishes are incredibly unique. In terms of service, it couldn’t have been better; efficient, warm and incredibly knowledgeable about each dish. I personally recommend the beef tataki, the sea bream tartare and one of the many sakes on the menu! Best eat in Bath :)
