Staff disorganised and slow. Wine arrived after the main course. Sushi arrived after the other dishes. Lots of dishes unavailable and the staff can’t seem explain them. Ambience terrible with bright orange light and loud music. Some dishes are laughably small and bad value. Others are fine. Shame because food can be tasty and I like the idea of a good sushi place. This isn’t it sadly. £130 and I left hungry - expensive and minimalist is a bad combination.

Had the seafood bento box for a lunch date, and the servings were pretty average across the board. Tempura vegetables were okay, sashimi was fine. The sad water cress sprinkled over the mackerel was just depressing. For some reason a separate bowl of sushi rice was also included, which was dry on the outside and mushy inside. Puzzled by that one. The miso soup was delicious, however and was genuinely the best bit. Service was pretty indifferent and food took around 35/40 mins to arrive. Had to then hunt down someone to pay the bill and again was met with complete indifference. Suits Bath I guess. Wouldn't go back, but would absolutely bathe myself in that miso soup given another chance.

An expensive Valentine's disappointment. The service was friendly. But after looking at the menu at home and paying £20 a head to book expectations were reasonably high. The atmosphere was okay as the restaurant was full. However it did feel less comfortable than other similar restaurants. The food is where we really felt we were let down. A lack of any flavor left the dishes feeling cheap. Cheap it was not.

Absolutely freezing by the kitchen, they take your coats but I needed them back, fancy place but not consideration for diners. I also don't understand when you want service on this much money they don't pour wine and water, why should you have service added to drinks if you don't serve?

Stopped for lunch with my daughter. While the salmon sashimi was delicious the rest was disappointing. On arrival we were seated and asked if we wanted any water. We did, and she refilled the small carafe once during lunch. When the check arrived I discovered we were charged 8 pounds for those 4 small cups of water. That really left a bad taste in my mouth and we won't be returning.

It was our first experience eating Japanese. We had the lunch menu as it was around 2.00pm. It was quite quiet but it suited us. We decided to go for a bento box each, one meat and 1 seafood. Omg what a treat, the food was excellent, and plenty of it. The miso soup was amazing. Pity we live 70 miles away, or it would most definitely be a regular place to dine for us. We had a Groupon voucher, which made it great value for money, also included a cocktail, which was also amazing. If you're visiting Bath or even living there don't hesitate to give this place a try, you won't be disappointed. The front of house was very knowledgeable and she was very cheerful and polite. All round great experience.

My Partner had been looking forward to visiting Robun for some time, arrived and initially looked good, very clean, kitchen was busy. We had a voucher for 50% discount, so thought we would use this to test the water. We eat out alot, we enjoy and appreciate good food, so were both looking forward to the experience. That was where the excitement ended, we were told straight away that half of the menu wasn't covered by the discount offer, despite this we ordered a selection and would use the voucher with whatever we could, the food was no more than average, rather tasteless, and the sweet potato fries were cold, far better food at wagamamas opposite, they did replace the fries, but by the time they eventually came out we were ready to go, they didn't charge us for them. We paid the bill and left rather disappointed. It's extremely overpriced for average food. Whether they just had a bad night or the main chef was off sick I don't know but not a good experience at all

Massive disappointment. I've been looking forward to visiting Robun for ages, my favourite Japanese place in London turned into a clichéd Korean-fake -sushi place and I moved to the South West. The menu is limited but I hoped this would mean exquisite food. I was wrong. Tiny portions of sushi no better than you buy in a supermarket but for quadruple the price. I was really looking forward to the tuna tartare. What a joke: their version has the consistency of tinned tuna but absolutely drenched in cheap fake truffle oil which is all you can taste and a tiny portion. No taste of tuna at all. The only good thing was they put some caviar on top. I was most annoyed about the 'chefs special tuna selection' (cost £28) which you see in the picture. I couldn't believe my eyes. As well as it including yet another even smaller portion of the awful tuna tartare (why didn't the waitess inform me I was ordering the same dish twice??), all you got was a couple of bits of tuna sashimi and a couple of pieces of Tina making exactly like you get in a supermarket. At a cost of £28...seriously? Disgraceful. The tempura prawns were also nothing special and a tiny portion. They could add caviar to that to make itvmore special. I also had a tiny bite of mido black cod costing £28. Anyway, at least now I know and won't go back. I would honestly rather have gone to Yo Sushi or even Pizza Express for a fraction of the cost of the meal here. I am happy to spend money on exquisite food but this place takes the mickey. Not worth it at all.

Robun is normally a fine Japanese restaurant but this Saturday night it was not. They were very full and we sat down with high expectations, we ordered Saki and Chicken Karaage as a starter This dish is small pieces of chicken with a light tempura type batter- it came HALFWAY through the meal and was large pieces of chicken covered in dark sauce. My wife left it, the Saki arrived warm not hot. Our Sashimi arrived with no Ginger our waitress Page apologised and went to get some. She came back saying very sorry but they had run out - really, a Japanese restaurant without Ginger! I said we did not want Sashimi without Ginger, she somehow got some Ginger root and cut it small, it was not right but made the Sashimi edible. We then asked for more salmon Sashimi they but had run out of that too. If the rest of the food had been great that would have helped but to keep this short it wasn’t, Page did her cheerful best but the whole offering was poor. I would go as far as to say this was the worst Japanese meal we have had which as I said before is unusual for this usually fine restaurant. The top chef I believe was not there and boy did it show. Once again Page helped by sorting our bill and knocked off some of the worst food. So we will come back but Robun needs to return to its former high standard if it wants to keep its reputation. David & Trish P. S. Aga the manager was off that day…..

Delighted to find this wonderful Japanese restaurant. We ordered a large selection , service was quite slow to begin with but the dishes all came out in good time together at just the right pace . Fabulous wagu beef, soft shell crab , really large portion , bao buns , heaven , large portion of delicious ribs, superb duck amongst others . Presented beautifully we really enjoyed every dish . Again service became very slow towards the end of the meal and we waited an age for our authentic Japanese dessert but it was lovely . Friendly staff and would definitely return to try the enormous sushi platters we saw that looked spectacular.

As a general point to begin this review, I am not a picky person at restaurants I simply want to relax and have someone else cook for me for a night. I booked Robun in advance because of its recent inclusion on the Michelin guide to Bath. I was mightily disappointed here and would offer any restaurant goers my experience as a warning of how poor the service can be. When we arrived at the restaurant we were greeted and asked if we’d like to take off our coats. I said yes of course, coming in from a cold outdoors into the warm, my coat felt like a natural thing to take off. However when I looked back at the host, they did not offer to take them or indicate where to put them so I simply hung my coat up myself. I was willing to let this slide, I’m not a precocious person I can hang up my own coat. We then sat and chose our food and drinks and I will say I did manage to catch the eye of a waitress to note this down early into our experience. We are the type of couple who will choose off the online menu in advance and so I knew we would be faster at choosing than a regular guest. Our meal took around 30-40 minutes to come out which is acceptable. Sushi is a craft not a race. What was baffling to me was that the drinks took just about as long. We had a beer and a sake flight. Again we let this slide, it’s a Friday night, the restaurant’s half full, water under the bridge. The food was delicious. My salmon nigiri and tuna hosomaki was melt in the mouth and delicate. The miso soup was warming and wholesome. The spicy chicken was crisp. The only down side was my partner noted her cucumber maki was a tad dry. When we’d finished these plates we anticipated someone would come over and ask if we wanted anything more. Everyone else in the restaurant was being served and attended to with care (albeit a few dishes being sent back or sent to the wrong tables). Nobody came. We had three plates taken away but the rest were left on our table whilst the waitresses chatted at their station and served the other tables. I would say we wait around 30-40 minutes just to flag someone down for the bill. And when I say flag, my partner had to shout after a waitress who had served the bill to a table behind us to even get us noticed. It was extremely uncomfortable. We both began to question what we were doing wrong. Did we not order an expensive enough dish? Is it because we didn’t order all our mains at once? Is it because we were the only outwardly queer presenting couple in our section? Was sharing a kiss at our table a faux pas? Joking aside, and I say joking but these were genuine thoughts we had when leaving, I have never felt self conscious in a restaurant and I hope to never feel it again. We took the service charge off and left without ordering anything more. Instead we went to Tesco express and got snacks. It may have been a bad night for the staff. The kitchen may have been slow. I don’t know but I will not be recommending Robun to anyone I know.

Went here for a wedding anniversary meal. Irritatingly we were sat next to a family with (pretty gobby) teenage children, despite the rest of the restaurant being largely empty, which somewhat ruined the atmosphere for us. Food wise it was ok. We went for the tasting menu. Starters were lovely (beef and fish carpaccios), sushi was tasty but simple. Black cod was excellent but the kobe beef was full of sinews and portions were pretty small. Finished off with a chocolate torte which was very grainy. Ultimately it was disappointing for the price

This restaurant was such a disappointment. The dishes were overpriced and had nothing to do with real Japanese cuisine. Three of them were drowned in the same spicy sauce, so you couldn’t taste anything else. The grilled octopus came out cold and, surprise, also covered in that same spicy sauce. The service was slow, and the place wasn’t clean—the sofas and floors were dirty, and the toilet was even worse. We ended up paying about £140 for two people, with just two beers and average food that was all spice and no flavor. Definitely not worth it!

I have been wanting to go for 6 months plus, finally made time to visit. Lovely waiting staff who were happy to seat us in a quiet part of the restaurant (my partner and I both have poor hearing) where we enjoyed views of the kitchen and the prep. Had amazing gyoza, duck bao buns, tempura prawns, octopus balls and a mega chef fish selection platter. One of the waiting staff kindly explained which fish was which (we probably wouldn't have known between some of them) and suggested the recommended order in which to enjoy these (dark fish and salmon last). This was really appreciated as we would not have known. I don't think I like tuna, but it was staggeringly good and the tuna was like butter! I had no idea tuna or the other fish could be this good. Really lovely evening and felt looked after by the staff. Great experience and I will definitely be back. Thank you again for making a lovely evening out.

Sadly I would not return to Robun or recommend it. We booked in for the Japanese’s high tea for a special anniversary and we were massively disappointed. Though the staff were lovely and friendly and attentive, and the presentation of the food was creative, the food was completely lacking in any flavour whatsoever. The chicken was incredibly dry and could have used some sort of dipping sauce, the sushi was completely basic and bland, no soy sauce just fish on dry rice, and the bao buns were completely under whelming. Nothing interesting or remarkable about any of it. The teas were nice but nothing special and we got a small glass of sparkling sake on the house as it was our anniversary. We honestly couldn’t believe they were charging £30 a head for this. We were in and out in 40 mins and deeply upset that we felt so ripped off after we’d read so many good reviews about Robun and we’re excited to celebrate our special day there.

Venue online advertising afternoon tea and regular menu. Upon arrival, I was informed that they were unable to accommodate me and my daughter because the chefs were on break. This was incredibly frustrating as my 8 year-old was looking forward to some quality time and sushi. It's unacceptable for a restaurant to turn away customers especially when it seems like poor planning on their part. Empty restaurant with two managers hovering at the bar and a bartender.

When we got there we got told that our names weren't even down for reservation. Even tho we had called in advance to confirm. Then we were seated at an absolutely tiny table with cheap looking disposable chopsticks. As for the food we had the takoyaki, karaage, rice and the pork ribs and each one was aweful. The takoyaki was no where near the right texture nor flavour, the karaage batter was so hard that you'd think it was something from a frozen meal. The pork ribs were dry and frankly not seasoned nearly enough. Furthermore the servers were dressed so poorly that if one of the poor girls had bent over, her whole private area would be on display. A tiny black mini skirt and a button up shirt that looks 2 sizes too small. They call this place a "tribute" to an authour which just sounds insensitive and frankly quite rude due to the appalling quality of just the entire restaurant. If anything, I hope this place closes down permanently.

Mixed bag here. They have had a great idea for this restaurant - the decor is wonderful and the menu looks great but the execution in the kitchen is not quite where it needs to be. The Spicy Edamame have a hot sauce squirted all over them...no subtlety to this dish at all and messy as hell to eat. The Karage Chicken was a little undercooked and not at all crisp on the outside. Finally we had the Iberico Pork Ribs, which while it came in a dome full of smoke (see photo), was somewhat lacklustre in flavour. If you haven't been to Japan as many times as me, you might like it here and the service was great, but it's not for me...it wasn't full, so you have to wonder if Bath hasn't already come to the same conclusion.

Probably the best restaurant in Bath. First, the food. All served fresh, and you can tell from the taste alone. A great range of options, all of which are excellent value for money, so you can tailor your experience to any budget. The bento boxes for lunch are very reasonably priced and serve as an excellent introduction to Japanese cuisine. Meanwhile the tasting menu is perfect for special occasions and the sake pairings are to die for! Service wise- staff are friendly and welcoming without being intrusive- clearly professionals who care for their craft! Also a special shout out to the many theatrics featured on the menu, something which many restaurants shy away from these days. Highly recommend the lamb cutlets if you’re looking for wow factor, and the rum blazer to finish! Will be back.

Top quality food. I loved the butterfish sashimi (something I'd never had before) and the bluefin tuna tartare. Excellent service, knowledgable staff. Gorgeous atmosphere inside.

We tried the taster menu, which looked very good, but with 1 vegetarian, 1 pescatarian, 1 coeliac, the food service was problematic. We had sharing dishes that didn't match the dietary requirements and on 1 occasion, one of our party had nothing to eat, which the restaurant did resolve. The person that needed strict gluten free had to keep asking the specific dishes were GF and on one occasion a miso soup was served and 5 minutes later the staff came out with a GF version. Luckily the coeliac hadn't yet started theirs. From the taster menu a whole wine round was missed but was rectified. In terms of the food the starter of edamame beans was very nice as was the black cod and wagyu beef. The dessert for the coeliac was limited to sorbet only, but they had some great flavours. They just need to cater for all dietary needs on the taster menu, but on a positive note the staff were very aware of the issues they and we were facing.

The food was okay, I did expect a bit more since the price is quite high as I'm not quite sure if it was a higher end restaurant? When we called over the waitress (nicely), she said, "You what?" In not quite a nice tone? Maybe it was a misunderstanding. I'm not quite sure, and there were many flies around the restaurant, even though it wasn't quite hot that day. Don't really recommend.

Very pleasant environment excellent service from staff who could explain the menu to first time diner's in Japanese cuisine. Three of us tried 5 alternative dishes of fish and beef and of course prawns in rice sushi style. The flavours were delicious and presentation excellent but the style of sharing plates does not appeal to me and chop sticks and me never get on well. I presume this is fine dining with a fine dining price ticket so dine out in a large group to spread the cost.

Robun is just great. Food is interesting, tasty and fun. Staff are fantastic - friendly and helpful (especially Paulina). For instance: the team decorated my daughter’s plate with a “happy birthday” message which was a lovely surprise! Would recommend soft shell crab for main. The mochi and standard ice-cream desserts were exceptional. This was our second visit, first visit was to Kareoke bar upstairs which was also fantastic.

Such a lovely restaurant, warm and welcoming. Excellent food beautifully presented just like an artist's painting. We enjoyed black cod which was unbelievable and so tasty the salmon teriyaki was the best I have ever had. All the food came promptly and hot. The saki and the cocktails were a real pleasure. Dessert was a dream the lemon and yuku tart was a perfect finish to the meal.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had an absolutely amazing experience at Robun! From the moment we walked in, Tah (apologies if I’m spelling his name wrong) made us feel incredibly welcome. He provided superb service, explaining everything on the menu perfectly and making sure we understood every detail. We were greeted with complimentary bubbles as soon as we arrived, which was a lovely touch. Despite the restaurant being busy and our food taking a bit longer to arrive, Tah’s kindness and passion for hospitality truly stood out. He treated us like royalty, making the wait enjoyable. Coming from a restaurant background myself, I have to say this was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in the UK. I’ve worked in high-end sushi restaurants, and the quality of the fish and wagyu beef at Robun was outstanding. A huge thank you to the team, especially Tah, for making our visit so special. We will definitely be returning in the future!

The dining room was infested with fruit flies (Sept. 1st) which is unacceptable for a place that expensive. The food was well presented, but some dishes were way too spicy and that's unexpected with high end Japanese cuisine. The flavours should be delicate, not burried in hot chillies. We were disappointed.

We were recommended this place on our trip to Bath, so booked ourselves in for a visit. We decided on the taster menu, with wine pairings, and were not disappointed. Food was delicious, a good range of courses, with well thought out wines to accompany. Our waitress, Angelina, was fantastic, chatty, offering help and advice throughout our meal, most useful as it was our first visit to a Japanese restaurant. We loved it, thanks so much for a fab evening!

The service and venue is great. But the food needs improvement. I ordered ramen for lunch and the pork belly/chashu was hard and difficult to chew. Nothing like the melt-in-your-mouth type you get in most ramen shops. Very disappointed.

What a great restaurant. Two of us had lunch here and it was excellent. We both had miso soup to start. It was a good soup and the tofu was tasty; not always easy with tofu. I had the vegetarian bento box and it was superb. The gyoza were prepared a bit differently to the way they're usually served in Japan and they were good. Great to have edamame bean pods, something I really associate with Japan. Everything was delicious. The ribs and aubergine were very good. Several items on the menu I couldn't eat because they had chilli or looked on the spicy side. Chilli is not something I encountered in Japan so the menu feels like it's been tailored for Western tastes which is understandable but a little disappointing from my personal perspective. Beautiful food, good range of drinks, good service, buzzy vibe, go try it out.

So warrants a short review, if you are familiar with Japanese restaurants in New York City, London, Japan, you will not be happy here. The food is average, the prices are very high, the service is not very knowledgeable although they try very hard, but they’re just not the right level, they are trying to be.

seems unsure on whether it’s a chain, offering cheap deals, or an upmarket restaurant competing for accolades and it shows in the food which isn’t all that interesting. Overall it wasn’t the high quality dining experience we expected at the price point and would recommend a number of other places in Bath ahead of this.

We came here to see Robun's chef, Kasae who was one of the finalists for Masterchef and it didn't disappoint, the sashimi was amazing, the wagyu beef sliders were super cool and had this dipping sauce, sorry I cant remember what it was! Style over substance. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the service is great, but the food is sub standard. Everything was deep fried and didn't taste of much except batter. On reflection would have been better to order the meat or sushi dishes. It definitely felt like an Anglicized version of Japanese dishes which was disappointing.

We visited last night (3rd August 2024) a joint celebration, one sons birthday and another his graduation. We arrived on time, a party of 6, but our table wasn't ready, it's wasn't busy at that time, so no reason why it shouldn't have been ready. We were handed menu and told that several items weren't available We ordered items that would normally be steamed but was told the steamer was broken. The food was fine but considering the high cost we expected better. The bill came and we noticed about £35 overcharge on the drinks, we pointed this out and it was resolved but why/hiw did it happen? All in all a disappointing evening, we won't be going back

Food looked good but lacked flavour. Everything seemed to be covered in sichuan sauce so all the dishes had the same flavour. The gyozas were poor and I found the frozen cook at home itzu ones far superior. Service was good, but unfortunately we were sat on a table by a wall covered in fruit flies so we had to battle them for the majority of the evening. Considerably better restaurant options in Bath than this.
