Beautiful place & great customer service and Beautiful food!!

The food was delicious and the service excellent, we felt really well looked after throughout the meal. Friendly and relaxed atmosphere, glad we picked Browns to celebrate Mum’s 80th birthday!

Went as couple on wet January night so restaurant less than half full. But was made to feel very welcome and food (steaks) were out of this world (real melt in your mouth) and good selection of deserts (we had crumble to share which was excellent)

The seafood platter for a starter was beautifully presented, enough for 3 people and the squid was the best I have ever had! The Chateaubriand was perfect and the broccoli & beet sides delicious. Looking forward to our next visit.

The atmosphere was cozy and inviting. We had a beautifully cooked Chateaubriand, rich peppercorn sauce, and the generous portion was more than enough for two of us. Fish and chips was spot on - classic done right! Our server, Alex was friendly and attentive, we had a great dining experience. We will definitely be back for more!

We have always enjoyed eating at Brown's, but our meal on Mon 30th Dec was exceptional. The ribeye steak was a fabulous quality piece of meat and cooked to perfection. The sea bass risotto was absolutely delicious. We also ordered sides of brocoli and onion rings, and these were the ideal accompaniment.

Went in for an early dinner. Very quiet. Food was good, 1 person had the roast which was OK. Beef wellington was excellent. Service was good to start with, but as a few more customers came in, service deteriorated.

We visited Browns Oxford on Christmas Eve at 6.30pm and ate from the a la carte menu. There was a disappointingly limited choice of main courses. Overall, the service was good, but the quality of food wasn't particularly great. We have eaten at this restaurant before and choose it for its gluten free (gf) options because my 16 year old son is coeliac. His 'medium rare' steak was served without any browning/caramelisation on the outside, leaving it looking quite grey and unappetising in appearance. The other main courses (chicken schnitzel, ribeye steak, mushroom and halloumi burger) were not much more enticing or flavoursome.

All 7 of us had a great time . The Christmas dinner was lovely and the staff was very nice.

Surprise birthday party . Brown's made it memorable

First time at Browns and for Christmas dinner too so i was slightly apprehensive but i was absolutely blown away, the atmosphere was buzzing, as soon as you walked in the front of house staff met us straight away with a friendly and jovial manner, we were early so we were seated in the bar area for a little warm up drink and when the time came for dinner we were allowed to finish our drinks at our own pace and was sat down…………….then came the magic, the canapés were pâté, salmon and wild mushroom which were demolished with in seconds, the starters then followed, 3 of us had trio of duck (perfect) the other 3 had pan fried scallops (Perfect). Main course arrived and what a beautiful site laid out before us, 5 had Turkey which was expertly cooked and i had lamb rack and all i can say is WOW!!!! The picture i’ve put up really doesn’t do it justice………….the crumb on the lamb was unbelievable and the lamb was cooked to perfection. The pudding came and we all had chocolate trio which again was very well presented and tasted even better Well done Browns, you made Christmas day

The staff are so friendly and helpful, the atmosphere is really calm yet at the same time vibrant (which is hard to achieve). The décor is beautiful and its very clean. The food was delicious and there was a great choice. This is now my favourite place to dine out in Oxford.

Still a great institution after all of these years (I practically lived here from 2001-2005!!). Great atmosphere, food very good for the price, excellent service and yes, I'd rather pay 10% surcharge for excellent service! My only gripe was that they refused to sell a nonalcoholic cocktail to my son i.e 'a minor' as apparently, it encourages drinking alcohol - I literally broke down in a fit of laughter (got to love Mitchell and Butler's!) only in the UK but whatever! Will definitely return and highly recommend for family dining.

We took a large group to eat at Browns restaurant today (61 people) and everyone had a blast. We would like to mention 2 staff who were especially helpful - Aurelia and Marius We will return 👍

Ilyas was absolutely amazing. He made our bottomless brunch worth the money by giving us lots of drinks in the 1.5 hours. He was just lovely. Credit to Ilyas.

We had our work team Christmas lunch here on 10th December. The atmosphere and service were both really good and the meal was good value for money. Several people had the turkey or beer dinners and really enjoyed them. The duck liver parfait for my starter was really lovely. For main I had the seabass and, whilst it was generally good, the fillets were a little over cooked and there were too many potatoes on the plate and no vegetables - it would have been nice to have some tenderstem broccoli to go with it. The chocolate ganache torte for dessert was rich but lovely and the blackcurrant sorbet was a great addition. Overall we had a lovely time at Browns and will be back!

Tried to take some American friends here today for lunch. Admittedly we had not booked, however the way we were “greeted” by the Chinese guy at reception desk was nothing short of disgusting. An abrupt “no” and basically waved us off. I have never had this happen in any restaurant before - and I’ve eaten in a lot of places all over the world. This guy should be sacked - I wouldn’t even have him washing dishes in a restaurant let alone front of house facing customers. Our guests were shocked and could only muster one word “wow”. I asked to speak to manager to complain and no one listened. Disgraceful place - zero out of ten.

Fantastic festive afternoon tea with friends at Browns in Oxford. Server Ingrid was excellent - friendly and super efficient and made excellent recommendations for cocktails.

I thought the service from all the staff was truly impressive. It was a very busy lunch because of all the office xmas parties and a wedding group as well, but this had no negative effect on the efficiency or attentiveness of the staff. We had Penny as our waiter and would give her full marks.

Had an incredible cocktail from Kris. Such an amazing bar tender, deserves a big raise.

I visited Browns twice so far and I can't recommend it enough! It's a lovely atmosphere, really nice and fun staff and the food is always on point! They also accommodated our hen do dinner and made it a night to remember for the bride to be! I definitely recommend this place for any occasion!

Customer service was extremely poor and management is rude! To make up for it they provided us with a discount on a drinks to make up for the bad service however I would rather be served by staff who are friendly and know how to problem solve than trying to force 17 of us out of our private dining booking 30mins early to accommodate their double booking error

Always a lovely experience having a Sunday Roast at Browns featuring gorgeous live piano playing! Eder served us and was very friendly and welcoming.

There was a mouse running around by our table. The waiter and supervisor did not take our concern seriously at all. Very poor customer experience.

Great pre theatre meal made particularly special by the excellent service by John. He took great care to ensure we had a relaxed meal which was served in a very pleasant but professional manner.I hope we are fortunate enough to have him serve us next time we visit Browns.

I used to eat at Browns Oxford regular back in the day. Just after covid we visited & it was very poor. We decided to try again a couple of year on & I have to say we had a really experience. The restaurant had been done up, the staff all exultant & the food was fantastic. We all 5 of us were very pleased. Great job, we'll be back!

Food was decent. Standard brasserie fare. Had a ribeye steak and it was reasonable. Aurelia served us and she was fantastic. Incredibly attentive. Very personable and a conversationalist. Made us feel comfortable and offered excellent service. Didn't wait a second longer for a drink or the bill than we would have liked to, without feeling rushed. Service was excellent.

We came for a birthday celebration, the atmosphere was immaculate, staff were extremely friendly, especially the service provided by John and Ilyas made us feel very welcome! And the food quality and portion was amazing!

We were a family group of 10 for lunch. The food was great and the staff really were lovely also. Hadn't been for a while but will defintely be returning and would recommend if you are looking for somewhere comfortable, warm atmosphere, good food and friendly but totally professional staff. We went to lunch yesterday, greeted without a smile as if we were intruding by what i think was a manager, we were then wisked to the table and he walked off without even a smile, we were finally greeted by our waitress around 10 minutes of seating. We ordered and when the food came my daughters burger had a large hair on the burger, lucky she noticed straight away. We told one of the people and they said they would change it. No appology or concern. We starting eating our meal and 15 minutes after asked 3 people if the burger would be long and if they could check, finally almost 20 minutes after the incident the burger arrived, obviously my wife daughter and i had finished our meals.. this actually ruined everyones meal and we had no time to order pudding as we had other commitments. I ordered the Bill ad to my surprise no one apologised for any delays which is basically rood in any restaurant, I was charged for our free cocktail, and i had to make the point that i was not happy paying service so they should take it off (even though I left a cash gratuity as the waitress acknowledged the situation and went to speak to the manager who comped the burger... She was the only person that apologised but actually only did so after i showed discontent We are not cattle and this is not what we expect from one of the oldest restaurants in our city

It is a fabulous restaurant. The food was amazing, I have ordered the Garlic Prawn & Chorizo, Ribeye and Home-Baked Chocolate Brownie, seems to have been mostly excellent—especially the Ribeye, which was tender, juicy, and well-marbled. However, the waiter’s attitude seemed condescending, which could definitely detract from the overall experience.

came to browns on a Sunday night and the atmosphere was lovely! we all enjoyed our food - some vegetable and seafood dishes. but the night ended off with a sighting of Mr brown himself - a mouse we saw twice near our dinner table. when we told the waitress about this, she looked at us unbothered and said that seeing mice is not unexpected “in a city as old as Oxford”. and shrugged it off. Very reassuring 🥲

Ingrid was a lovely server she engaged with all of us to ensure we would be happy with our menu selection which we were! The food and drinks were amazing with perfect portion sizes and buckets of flavour.
