I'd ordered a cake for my sons birthday about a week/2 weeks before his birthday, it came to the day and luckily I phoned preemptively at 10 to check if the cake was ready to pick up, it had not been made. Which in turn stressed me out, although I got a phonecall at 12ish to tell me my cake was ready. So I went to pick it up, I was given an apology for the messing about in the morning, and some free cupcakes. That and the cake had more than I asked for.. got it home and it was delicious and my son loved all his chickens. Thank you again the cake was beautiful

It appears that, despite a good star rating, I've been on the unfortunate end of service. I made a request for birthday cupcakes in the style of Black Forest Gateau, providing a photo for reference of design. What I got, though not terrible, was not akin to the photo provided. I've shown several people the comparison, and they are all in agreement what I received was rather lackluster. The cupcakes themselves seemed to be basic chocolate cupcake with absolutely no cherry flavour within the actual sponge. Instead, a smidge of cherry sauce/syrup was placed on top, buttercream (missing rather a lot of flavour may I add) on top of that and a glace cherry. The glace cherry doing a lot to take away from the aesthetic given that Black Forest is specifically morello cherry. There was sprinkle to top it all off, though barely. All in all, taking a bite, it was a rather basic cupcake that didn't taste specific to Black Forest. Just a very loose cherry flavour, if you managed a bite with the cherry syrup. The shop had prepared further Black Forest cupcakes, given my request, for sale. These varied in their appearance, with jam placed atop. I opted to swap 3 of my own for 3 of these for the variation of appearance, as the ones provided seemed rather bland looking as a batch of 6. This was offered as an option, and I suspect because they knew the aesthetic was not great. On collection, the service wasn't warm either in all honesty. It was very unwelcoming and didn't inspire me to want to make any conversation at all - which seemed to be the preference. Maybe they were busy and simply squeezed my small order in and rushed it amongst whatever other large orders they were making. Either way, the result was disappointing, more so from an award winning store, and ultimately provided a poor result for my girlfriend who simply isn't into birthday cakes. Unfortunately, this is more than enough to put me off any further orders, cupcake or otherwise.

Browns made a delicious cake three-tier cake for my wedding last month. It was beautiful too. I would definitely recommend their cakes as my family have previously used them before (my sister's wedding and my mum's 60th)

Popped in today to see the cake we had designed and it was too pretty to even consider eating! It’s everything I wanted but better. A reasonably priced 8 inch! Happy customer! Thank you to the team at Browns Cakes for a lovely experience. Update: tasted phenomenal! So fluffy!

I ordered the plant pot cake for my mum’s 80th birthday. It looked stunning and when we finally braved cutting through it, it was delicious too! The service we received was exceptional. I cannot recommend Browns enough for any special occasion. Thank you so much. My mum was delighted with it and that’s what mattered the most!

This has to be the best afternoon tea in the country! My husband and I went this afternoon and were treated to an exquisite array of cakes, scones, beautifully crafted sandwiches (all with different bread and fillings) and a delicious Leek and potato soup with a light cheese and onion pastry, not to mention the sublime coffee and glass of non- alcoholic bubbly! The service was second to none and the attention to detail lifted the whole experience to a different level. Having had afternoon teas throughout the country, we both agreed that this was by far the best. Thank you so much!

I went in with my granddaughter and had a slice of cake and a tea the cake was called chocolate caramel explosion and was served with cream and ice cream and was delicious my granddaughter had a slice of bakewell cake and hers was delicious. While we was there someone was afternoon tea and that looked really good. Well worth a visit

Discovered this place having bought a groupon deal, food and service was great including moving our reserved table to accommodate our pram. I’m not sure of the waitresses name however she explained the menu well and gave us a background of the business when asked. She was a credit to the business and would definitely visit again.

Had a lovely Halloween afternoon tea today. The vegan option was amazing, including the cake! So tasty and lots of choice; my son even had seconds of the autumn vegetable soup 😊 great service, lovely staff, will definitely be back.

I went for a midweek lunch with a friend. Although we hadn't booked they found us a table. Lovely lunch with the most amazing cakes. It was beautifully decorated for halloween and immaculately clean. All the ladies working there were absolutely lovely giving the best service iv'e had for a long time. A real credit and well worth a visit.

I went for a afternoon tea here it was lovely and the staff went out of there way to accomodate. My little boy came with me and my mum and the children's meal was sandwiches, however my little boy asked for pie. They adapted the menu to accomodate him which i thought was lovely. Me and my mum shared mini deserts at the end these were suppose to be for one person. We spent some time thinking whether we should get two lots. Glad we didnt,there was quite a lot and it was just the right amount to share after such a lovely tasty lunch.

Absolutely loved this afternoon tea, lovely clean place with a little light music, staff are very nice, friendly and helpful. Booked for afternoon tea with my son and it was brilliant, plenty of yummy cakes, scones and biscuits, sandwiches, mini pie and delicious soup. And ‘ghost’ white chocolate milkshake. Everything made on site gives it an extra special touch. We were told about the savoury and sweet sharing platters which sound amazing. Will definitely be back.

I had the pleasure of attending an afternoon tea for a friends special Birthday. It is such a wonderful place to eat. The food was exquisite, on offer was a cup of butternut squash soup, a selection of sandwiches and a number of different types of cakes to choose from. Everything was beautifully presented and very tasty. The attentiveness of staff was wonderful. I will most certainly return again and would recommend the shop to friends and family .

I’ve visited the shop in multiple occasions and have always left very full and very happy! Their afternoon tea is amazing and definitely not to be missed! The mini pies are to die for! Everything is so fresh and the staff make you feel so welcome. I love coming here for a treat and can never resist taking some home for the rest of the family!

What can I say? Afternoon tea which was the best I have ever tasted! Every single item was exquisite. Just wish I had enough room to have finished it all. As always, Natasha the owner was extremely attentive and accommodating and packed up the leftovers to take away for round two later. The Staff and surroundings are both fantastic. One of my many visits to browns cakes! Beautiful as always, owner Natasha is lovely and very attentive to your needs, can’t do enough for you! Had a tuna & sweet corn sandwich, was very nice and just what you want for an early lunch, comes with wedges and side salad which is a really nice extra! The cheese & onion pie was also lovely would recommend! Had the trio of sample cakes, the Victoria sponge especially was really nice; light, fluffy and tasty. The brownie and shortbread were also nice, the chocolate ice cream was gorgeous too, not too much not to little! Very nice visit, can’t wait to come back!

Cant recommend the food & service enough. Real family vibe and delicious fresh cooked food. So glad we booked as they obviously get busy, free top up of coffee was a really nice touch as we finished our meeting.

It was ok, upon booking the ladies were unaware that vegetarians didnt eat fish? The sandwiches were tasty but only 2 small finger sandwiches each was a little on the small side and I could have certainly eaten more. The brownie was quite dry but the scone was nice. It was a shame the cream was presented in a plastic tub. One very small coffee was given with the afternoon tea, we asked for another and were charged extra for this at the end. It would have been nice to have been acknowledged as we were leaving. It was nice enough but definitely not amazing like I had hoped it would be.

The soup was a nice touch, very tasty. Only 2 finger sandwiches each seem a little on the mean side.

We found this cafe while googling for somewhere to take my Nan for lunch. It got good reviews so we decided to try it!!! So glad we did it was delicious!!!! The food & cakes where amazing!!! The staff lovely & friendly!!!

I bought cupcakes from here last week for work they were amazing everyone loved them. The customer service is outstanding.

Disappointed at being turned away because we had not booked a table.....as your website does not say you have to book a table or even advise to book a table how was I to know this? If you can't be bothered to tell customers that they need to book then I can't be bothered coming back and will stick to going to the Olive and Pickle and Slatterys as the service and food at both these places is excellent.

Arrived for a light lunch and was told we had to leave as we hadn’t booked a table. There were free tables available and nowhere in store or on website does it state this. Ridiculous place and clearly has ideas way above its station.

This was my second trip to Brown's Cakes today for the Pie High Afternoon Tea. The two pies were tasty and were accompanied by a lovely, finely chopped salad. We had a selection of warm scones, cupcakes, pastries and slice cakes which were all delicious but there were just so many, we got to take a doggy bag home too! The staff are super friendly and go out of their way to ensure you enjoy your experience. We will definitely go back again.

Saw this on groupon and have tried 4 other afternoon teas around the north west. This is by far the nicest. Service was excellent and so well looked after by the ever smiling Jenna. Lovely atmosphere too.

Natasha and the team did a fantastic job with this cake. It looks absoletly amazing! (and also tastes amazing) You can tell they put a lot of love into making this. They provided a great service and everyone loved this cake.

We went to Browns for lunch and had the special menu, which is 3 course for £9.95. It is excellent value for money and we would highly recommend this cafe. The selection is excellent, the service second to none, and you ear in a warm and friendly atmosphere where the staff can’t do enough for you. I give 5 stars for service, value for money and food

As well as leaving with an amazing cake made for my son's 10th birthday, we also had a lovely lunch, that was cooked fresh and washed down with great tasting coffee and tea.

The idea is to have a choice of pies, which is okay as they are a great two pie portion. But pies are not the only thing available, soup or a very good Welsh rarebit is also on offer, plus dessert if you have room

Lovely cakes, great service. Occasionally pop in across the road from my office to buy a box of cupcakes which are always delicious! Browns also made my friend's wedding cake and it was beautiful. Would definitely recommend!
