Brown's Greens in Leeds

What a great cafe! Under new management, this is a perfect place for lunch, teas and cakes etc. as well as tapas evenings and other themed evenings. A great choice of vegetarian food, which was beautifully cooked and presented, and the staff are really welcoming and friendly. A relaxed and cosy atmosphere too - I will definitely be back.

Delicious dishes, great portion sizes and great value. And we’re really happy to experience much improved service from the last time we visited too. We’ll be returning regulars once again!

We visited for brunch and experienced excellent customer service- the staff are friendly and can't do enough for you. The food is also really good and something a bit different.

Just enjoyed a fabulous special Wazwan (Kashmiri) evening at Brown's Greens. The atmosphere was warm on a cold night, the staff are all lovely and the food was amazing. I highly recommend people to visit.

We visited for brunch on a weekday and were served quickly. The food is lovely and there is a great variety! Would love to visit again for one of the evening events.

We’ve been here a few times - pretty regularly - and the food is always lovely, but the service is very poor. Every time we go we’re saved by the same girl who is rude, very slow to serve (even when it’s not busy) and has a bit of an attitude problem to be honest. It seems that if you ask her to do something, she does the opposite and it’s starting to impact our enjoyment of visiting the cafe. Such a shame.

Food pleasant, deco fresh and environment clean. Reasonably socially distant. When we asked for some cheese to add to the chilli - they cheerfully provided some.

The first time I’ve been since the new owners took over. New menu does not disappoint, I had a Middle Eastern dish, just wonderful.

Having frequented this cafe many times pre-covid I had an idea what to expect. However, it turns out there’s been a change of hands and with it a change of decor, menu and atmosphere. The decor was very rustic before- I preferred it that way, but thats only a bit of paint and personal preference. On to the menu.. The menu has been condensed and has a somewhat Mediterranean theme. With halloumi or falafel being the main stars of any dish. With that said, I was disappointed to find the falafels weren’t made in house and we’re pretty bland. I opted for the mezze. This consisted of an over cooked (crunchy), thinly sliced pitta, shop bought falafel and sweet potato balls, a small amount of soft olives, hummus (was quite nice), a homemade salsa (just tasted like tinned tomatoes) and a salad- which was actually a small pot of coleslaw with some rice underneath. My oat milk flat white was just a regular coffee. There was one young girl serving when we arrived and for most of our stay, despite the cafe being full. So she was cleaning tables, taking orders and making coffee, meaning our coffees didn’t arrive until we were mid way through our food. I think she may benefit from a little more training with the coffee machine. The second young waitress was not much better on the machine- I requested some hot oat milk, which took her two attempts to make. Out of the five or six cakes on offer, only one was vegan- I expected more choice from a vegetarian cafe. The atmosphere, which was once inviting and friendly was non existent even with the tables full. Overall, I feel the quality of the food doesn’t reflect the price. This is such a shame, as the only fully vegetarian cafe locally, I’d much prefer to spend my money here.

We lived round the corner from Brown’s Greens for a few years and visited almost weekly. It’s a lovely, independent neighbourhood spot. It does a great selection of breakfasts, lunchtime salads and soups/ pies/curries, and some amazing cakes. We always got a warm welcome, and the team were great with our small kids (they do a nice menu of small bits for toddlers and kids, and also have some toys available).

Me and my wife were travelling back to Middlesbrough after being with some family who live in Rochdale on Saturday morning. We were passing through Leeds and needed a break from the road. Anyhow we ended up at browns greens and had the poached eggs and tomatoes on toast; the poached eggs were boiled perfectly and the tomatoes had so much flavour.Hats off to the chef and to the lovely staff who only seemed to be young but were pleasantly cheerful, well-mannered and welcoming. They also made a great flat white! Will be hopefully visiting this cafe again some time in the future!

I love this place! My husband and I are regulars here for breakfast, lunch and evening meals - we have been coming for years. The food is flavoursome, wholesome and healthy. I particularly love the humus, potatas bravas, avocado smash on flatbread and Kat's poached eggs (she makes the best poached eggs!). There is a very welcoming and relaxed atmosphere here and I always look forward to my visits. I've taken friends and family - everyone of them has been impressed with the food. The staff are friendly and extremely helpful too!!!

Perfect relaxing vegetarian/vegan cafe. Our favourite place to breakfast/brunch or lunch. Freshly prepared food. Plenty of choices for breakfast. Soups, curries, samosas, filo pies & salads are all freshly made & vary almost daily which I really love. The salads aren’t just lettuce! Ingredients range from lentil to sweet potato, carrot to red cabbage, beetroot to pasta. There is always a good selection... very relaxed vibe.

Service was terrible. Mistake after mistake with the order despite being the only customers, had to be repeatedly reminded about drinks ordered and no real knowledge of the food available. When the food came it was nothing special. The "sauce" on my "pizza" (actually a very small and dry flatbread) tasted like blended canned tomatoes. Same goes for the patatas bravas sauce. There's enough choice in Leeds now that vegetarians and vegans don't have to put up with second rate places. I doubt I'll come back.

I had a samosa that was extremely dry and "salad" which consisted of cold puy lentils, cooked cold carrots and not much else. Hot chocolate wasn't that good. Someone else had hummus,which was nice.

Don't expect any flexibility. No eggs are available at midday. Too much trouble. Shame because service was OK in the past. Shall not go again.

This vegetarian cafe is very popular but not for me. I have an onion allergy so found nothing I could eat, except the cakes of course! Yorkshire tea is served here although I think it is stored with other teas and did not taste good...

We regularly go to Browns Greens for lunch on the weekend or every so often during the week. The food is always good and hearty vegetarian. The cakes are superb. Couldn’t recommend it enough - we are lucky to have it so nearby!
