The Coffee here is machine made, which is quicker and easier for the staff, but not as good for the customer, as its not a proper barista coffee. The price though is still high end so expected a better quality than the weak and insipid large Americano I had. The staff were friendly and hard working though and the scones good.

Visited here for lunch sold out of most things so had to have scampi and chips 8 scampi small salad chips very expensive for a small meal. Dog friendly we have several dogs which we left at home but the cafe is too small to have dogs sniffing your table not very hygienic. We will not be returning as there are better places and much cheaper in the area.

Very posh!!!!!!!! Quite expensive, but a lovely cafe. The only thing is the perfume stalls can be pushy, but I would go back

No fruit scones…again or cream. Not a big ask at 12.50 Saturday pm in Beverley. Just a few date & walnut or cherry scones left but as scones are always left out on the top, they are usually quite dry, jam & cream is their saviour. Strange monotonous music ‘beat’ playing in the background? The coffee is good and staff are pleasant.

rang to ask if Christmas dinner was been served, they could not answer the question? so we went online and yes, christmas dinner menu available 12 til 3 pm, we arrived at 2 pm, they said food had finished, and they had no Turkey, we said well Chicken will do? no she said looking down at her feet, we only have trianee staff in the kitchen so would not be able to do it?, we traveled 45 miles to have this dinner, or not have this dinner, they looked to have cleared up as no other food was in the dispaly friges or anywere else for that matter, poor show, will not be bothering them again

Arrived just before lunchtime on a Saturday. Waited a while to be seated -one of the staff permanently on her mobile - but asked to sit at any cleared table, of which there were plenty. I counted 7 staff. Young man took our order for 2 coffees after a five minute wait (no real problem but saw that many of the staff were doing nothing. 20 minutes later we left with no sign of the coffee. The cafe was probably just over half full on our visit.

We were given a menu and told to go and find a table, which was difficult as they were all full of dishes. Very unwelcoming. I ended up moving the dirty dishes from our table onto another and cleaned the table with the sanitizer in my bag. We only ordered scones and drinks. The scones were lovely. Overall, I felt it was too claustrophobic, the tables were a bit close together. The reason why I gave it a low mark was that we were there about 45 mins and the tables with the dishes on , which was nearly every empty table, had not been cleared in that whole time. It just felt unhygienic. I thought if this is how they care for the part the public see, what is the kitchen like. I have worked in a cafe and I would have thought that if you bring food out on a tray, you would then put some used dishes on it to take back with you. This wasn’t the case. The waitress went back with an empty tray. We wouldn’t go again.

Had lunch here on Saturday We didn’t know that it was doggy friendly and it turned out to be very friendly Our dog was given some sausage I’m gluten free but managed to find loads to eat from the menu The food was lovely but the best thing about the visit was the staff Nothing was too much trouble and they were wonderful Highly recommended

We visited on a wet January Saturday for a hot drink to warm us up! We decided to have a bacon sandwich each also as it was late morning! It is waitress service but we could sit where we liked. It was not very busy. There were a lot of staff standing about. We gave our order which did not take too long although the tray that the waitress brought our order on was dirty. Even my husband noticed. The butter was separate, it would have been much easier if the bread roll had been buttered before the bacon was put in! It was tasty although the bacon was very greasy. The scones at the next table looked very nice indeed.....

Firstly I do hate having to write a critical review, my wife and I have visited Browns many times over the past few years, and always been pleased and impressed with service, food, and lovely staff. Today we paid Browns a visit, we were welcomed with a lovely polite young lady, offering us the menu, and asking us to find a table, as a waiter would be with us shortly. We sat down to view the menu, having made our choices, we placed the menu on the table to await someone to take our order. it was quite busy, and we noticed several people were waiting to order. One couple got up explaining, they were sorry, but couldn't any longer (after 20 mins) We too waited the same time, and left. There was only 2 girls serving the customers, and doing an amazing job, constantly saying sorry for the wait to the lucky customers who got severed. So come on Browns management, you have a lovely place, with lovely food, and great staff, these lovely hard working girls need HELP!

We went in to look around very friendly staff. Both my husband myself my friend and her husband bought something. Very helpful and friendly staff.

TERRIBLE STAFF, THEY MADE IT THE NOISIEST CAFE IN THE WORLD! The staff were extremely rude and intentionally making as much noise as possible to ensure customers left quickly. They were shouting, arguing, banging plates and cups around, and slamming things into tables. It made our afternoon coffee and cake really stressful and uncomfortable. We also noticed how disgusting the staff's hygiene was: one woman was carrying a dirty dishcloth and wiping the tables, then came straight up to us and served our cakes - fingers all over the plate with the dirty dishcloth still in the other hand! I had to ask for another plate as the one she gave me was dirty. All round - a really horrible experience, caused by terrible staff clearly ignoring all Health & Safety regulations. AVOID THIS CAFE UNLESS YOU WANT TO LEAVE WITH A SERIOUS HEADACHE AND A FREE DOSE OF CORONAVIRUS.

My friend and I popped in for a quick battery re-charge during a shopping day in Beverley. At 2:30 in the afternoon we just had a tea, a coffee and a biscuit to give us strength for the challenges ahead. I must say that the ‘hot’ meals that were left under the glass counter looked disgusting, shrivelled and dried up. Very off-putting. I realise that they were probably fine at lunch time but certainly not a good advert in the afternoon. The cafe is light and airy but the view out of the wide window along the back of the restaurant is not great at present as there is building work down below and we overlooked an overflowing skip! I am sure we will return on another shopping trip, but only for a snack.

We popped in for coffee and cake break between shopping. Fairly quiet considering it was a Sunday. Nice selection of cakes and decent coffee too.

Browns cafe is a busy well run business serving fresh scones, cakes and brunch meals. If you're on your own there are a number of daily newspapers available to read.

While out Christmas shopping called here for a cup of tea and thought the cherry scones looked lovely, apart from massive! A cup of tea and a scone was just over £4 but the scone was so fresh and tasty, really yummy, one of the best I have tasted. The place is clean, staff friendly and a relaxing atmosphere. Would highly recommend, well worth a visit.

Tried this restaurant across midday on Tuesday . Not a pleasant experience at all . The place expectedly so was very busy . We didn’t want anything fancy so I settled on sausage egg and chips . My friend tried the jacket potatoes . Plus a tea and a coffee with cream which apparently the girl on the till had never heard of as we had to ask her three times and each time she started to make a coffee with milk , eventually the penny dropped which was eventually served to me in a cup and on a small side plate . Shortly after sitting down I tried it and it was as tepid as could be , barely warm and pretty awful to taste . We had to wait at the table unable to eat our meal as there were no knives available . When these were eventually put out ( a free for all ensued from the other customers who also wanted to use a knife to eat with ) the girl placed them in the receptacle by handling them blade first . Very off-putting as I do think that is so unhygienic to do that and shows a lack of complete ignorance and standards . The food itself was awful the chips tasted mildly of being fried in an old fish pan using very old fat . The sausages were like something that had been cooked several days ago , the eggs were ok but very greasy . Also the table condiments were placed high on the counter so one had to stretch over to get them I did try asking but I am not sure why the girl on the till seemed uninterested ( perhaps she was still trying to work out how to make a coffee with cream ) In any event I found it an awful experience and one that I won’t be repeating again their . The food was out of keeping with the supposed ambience of the place . Oh ! And before I forget they should try presenting butter with the jackets . It may have made them taste far better than they were found to be . Never again . Terry

With a good selection of top end clothing and accessories especially for madam and a nice inviting cafe for a lunch break Browns Department Store offers something for every occasion.

I would highly recommend this coffee shop/restaurant. Clean surroundings, a good selection of hot meals and cakes. Great coffee and nothing too pricey. Coffee prices slightly less than the main high street retailers, and the cakes were far better.

I have visited this restaurant on many occasions and thought it was about time that I posted a review! The Sunday lunch is my partners favourite and never disappoints and the quiche is my favourite! The staff are really friendly and efficient!! I enjoy sitting by the window and relaxing in the light and airy restaurant!

They had a good sale on. I love this store it is so classy. Well set out with very tentative staff. It is a little expensive, but a great place to treat yourself to something special. Well worth a visit.

We called Saturday afternoon around 2pm looking for a quick bite as we had just arrived in Beverley. The quiche and jacket potato we ordered were very nice and the the tea for two came with an extra pot of hot water. That’s a massive plus in my opinion. 1 small cup of tea you get in some places is never enough. ☕️

Cold Saturday so just wanted a hot drink and sandwiches for a quick bite. We had seen the cafe in Browns on our last shopping visit so decided to give it a try. It was busy,a good sign, but we got a table and ordered food.

Stopped in here for a quick lunch break from the shops,great restaurant for lunch,cakes were delicious,had some lattes .great choices on the menu.really nice shop to shop in also

An ideal and convenient place to quickly have something to eat whilst in the centre of Beverley. The café is situated at the top of the store. There is a varied menu including breakfasts, lunches, coffee, tea and cakes. The service is quick, the choice of cakes, buns and scones is wide, the quality is good. The cakes are moist and tasty, the coffee and tea plentiful and refreshing. You really do get value for money. Although it is usually a busy establishment, there is plenty of seating available. I recommend it

Usually have Breakfast at Browns when visiting and it is one of those rare places who know just how to cook poached eggs properly! Nicely done and well presented with good staff on hand

Always a reasonable menu in the upstairs restaurant here and I usually enjoy the full English breakfast but all the food looks very good. It is very clean and the food well presented.

Just had a brown cheese sandwich & chips with a cup of tea for lunch. My partner had egg & chips both enjoyable and very reasonably priced.

Only small but packed with some nice high end fashion wear. Staff did not ponce on you either which is always a bonus I think!

We visited Beverley for a day out. Once parked in the market place we began to look st the shops. Before we knew it the time had accelerated to lunch and as we were on the doorstep of Browns we decided to go there. We were not disappointed. My wife and I had the roast chicken with salad and chunky chips. At £5.95 it was extremely good value for money, and very filling, so much so, that a sweet was out of the question. The service was good and we did not wait long for our meal

This is a miserable little place in a building which contained a unique cinema interior. Now it is a claustrophobic third rate establishment, totally lacking in character. Sad

Good food and good choice of menu. I have never been disappointed with the food or service. A good place to go on my own or with friends after a shopping trip.

Nicely presented lunch, very busy , with a varied lunchtime menu just right from our shopping break. We had two lovely cooked quiches

We called in for a coffee and herbal tea. The views from the long window was quite interesting as we sat in a comfortable cafe. The drinks were fine as was the service.

Go there quite often and there is plenty of choice and good quality food. Comfortable restaurant with a newspaper to read if wanted.

10.15 went for breakfast. Approached counter, staff member turned her back and began shuffling papers. No acknowledgement for three minutes. Did not ask anyone else to attend to me, so I left (one customer in cafe). Went to Carluccio's instead - friendly, efficient and packed.

We found an extensive menu to choose from in the light and airy restaurant on the top floor. Good food and pleasant staff.

And was so pleased to see a great cafe on the top floor. I had been to Beverley lots of times but had thought that Browns was the restaurant chain until I got close enough today. The town was so busy so I was thrilled to see a small but good cafe. There's a big window with a nice view and newspapers to read. There seemed to be a good selection of usual fair and the coffee was the same price as anywhere but was served in nice glasses. Would go again as slightly off the beaten track even though it's in the centre.

Not the cheapest coffee in Beverley but a good one. Coffee and scones for 2 costing just under £9 is a bit expensive especially as we're not talking cream teas here. Having staff sweep and mop floors whilst you're eating isn't particularly good customer service though!

Popped in with my youngest son for a drink and a cake. Bought a bottle of water, a bottle of diet coke and a blueberry muffin and was astonished when the woman on the till asked for £6.00!! Also she told me they were having a function and we would have to leave in 20 minutes '(after I had paid!!) She also told my son he couldn't sit in one part of the restaurant as there were glasses stacked up for the function. When we sat down I noticed that one of the glasses we were going to pour our drinks into (they were not poured for us and I was not even given a tray) was absolutely filthy with greasy finger prints etc. Cafe Nero from now on for me!!

Had a quick coffee stop here and nothing not to like a good cup of coffee at a reasonable price in pleasant surroundings in a very nicely renovated building ..

We enjoyed a lovely cup of coffee during a quiet period at this restaurant, after a couple of hours shopping. It was fairly quiet, at 11 am, and we managed to get a table without any trouble. Nice friendly staff, nice clean tables and good service. The food on offer was very tempting but unfortunately we were not hungry. However we aim to sample the fare on our next visit.

Shopping in Beverley we decided to have a bite to eat at Browns Department Store café. To say that what we got was mediocre would be an exaggeration. Sawdust-like tuna on yesterday's bread roll doesn't even cover it! Never again!!

This is a shop with good customer service. The staff are always pleasant but don't 'pounce' on you when you are browsing.It is on a par with Browns in York.

A while since we were here and good to see the service has improved. We had the full breakfast which came more of a design feature than something you could easily eat. Set out on long, very crowded plate with the toast resting on top, do not understand what is wrong with a decent size plate for the meal and a side plate for the toast. Good quality food but not very hot and quite expensive.The restaurant was cold and very noisy, people were literally shouting at each other to be heard.We will not be going back here again.

We visited on a Thursday lunchtime. It was very busy and tables too close together to manoeuvre around and sit comfortably. Tables were not being cleared fast enough at such a busy time and then we had a 30 minute wait for a Welsh Rarebit and poached eggs on toast. The rarebit was ok but the poached eggs were rock-hard and the toast only buttered in the middle. Would not recommend this place - there are far better places in town.

Stayed in Beverley for a few days recently and came here twice for tea/coffee and a cake. It is a nice place to come, spotlessly clean and good value.

Usual department store style café. Lovely views. Good choice on the menu. Friendly Staff. Bacon rolls are great!

This restaurant has a very airy and light feel and is nicely set out. The food is very good with a wide choice of both snacks and meals.

A nostalgic visit every time I go. My childhood was spent on regular visits to the Playhouse cinema, Brown's predecessor which has been carefully converted into a department store, much needed in upmarket Beverley. The layout is difficult to manage but there is a good selection of fashion items, and the staff are helpful. There is a very pleasant café adjoining. I recommend you visit, especially for something different and special.

Visited here a few times, there's a pleasant, relaxed ambience, just what you need after a busy morning shopping. The scones are lovely and go down well with a latte.

Visit here quite often. Food always very good. Staff are pleasant and the restaurant is always very clean. Prices are very reasonable for a touristy town. Toilets immaculate! May be in a ladies department store but don't be put off. Well worth a visit.

I have shopped at Browns on many occasions in all departments. I don't always find what I want but have bought clothes,shoes, scarves, bugs and make up. The staff are unfailingly helpful and friendly whether I buy anything or not.

No need to drive to York with this little gem, it's like your traditional departmental store. The cafe has a nice menu too.

We called here on consecutive Saturday afternoons around 3ish. This is a nicely appointed cafe/restaurant with a pleasing ambience to me - plenty of free tables.It may suffer a bit from young Saturday staff who whilst well meaning don't have probably have the experience or nous. Our coffees and cakes were good but may be a bit pricey. They seem to have a varied menu and if you are by yourself there are newspapers to read.It is situated in a good class small department store - toilets are very good - in the basement whereas the cafe is on the first floor - accessed by either stairs or a lift.I enjoyed our visits and would willingly go back again.

I visited with my friend and her young son. We had a nice sandwich & baguette which was very filling. I wasn't very keen on the chips which didn't seem to be cooked very well and were quite hard. There was a good choice of food. Don't forget to pick up your own knives & forks. There are so many nice places to eat in Beverley that I probably wouldn't go back here but it was nice to try just the once.

It's proberbly one of the best value restaurants in Beverley. Prices quality etc all very good. I had the pasta which was plentiful and tasty. Deserts are rather nice too ☺ usually good staff and always clean.

A real old fashioned store but modern enough to be pleasing on the eye. layout was good prices a little above the norm but otherwise a good experience. Café / restaurant was fine if not slow service.

A very nice, light and airy cafe with a great selection of food. The special of the day was a crab sandwich but it was no problem at all for them to give us a crab 'salad' instead. I shall be back next time in Beverley!

At the end of wife taking time to view latest fashions, upstairs, there is a welcoming small restaurant serving light meals. Any of the Quiches are recommended but, decisions have to be made whether you wish accompanying,salad or wedges.Gentlemen, why not make your way upstairs, pick up a newspaper and, look forward to a pleasant meal, when she eventually joins you!!

A unique shopping experience big city style store in a market style town Browns had it all high fashion designer brands mixed with high quality clothing and handbags etc. at more affordable prices Try the upstairs coffee house upstairs again a good mix of a traditional breakfast selection combined with a superb selestion of light meals or if you prefer trt the afternoon tea

Upstairs in browns the breakfast was a very good experience. I particularly appreciated the clean tables with staff quickly cleaning up after people left. There is always a good range of papers the coffee is good and the poached eggs lovely. Perhaps the lady taking the order could have been a bit less of a dragon.

Have eaten here several times. Always reliable, mostly quick service. Can get quite busy Saturday lunchtime - but then most places are in Beverley. Goof range OD sandwiches and cooked food.

Good value basic food. Tables could be cleared quicker but it was a busy day. Liked the food not keen on the overall atmosphere.

Called early for a coffee and quick bit to eat. Sausage sandwich and coffee for under £5 seemed good value and although the coffee was filter the bread cake and sausages were good. Staff were very polite and helpful.Newspapers were on hand to read which helped pass the time as although very quiet I had to wait almost 20 minutes for the sandwich to be served.Good but there are better places than this in Beverley.

Nice clean restaurant, we had just eaten breakfast in the hotel so didn't try the food, but this was a good place to take a break from shopping with good views of surrounding streets and friendly staff.

Went for a coffee and a scone with a friend one lunch time after being told how nice it was and unfortunately I was a bit disappointed. The coffee wasn't very warm and the scone had seen better days, was a bit dry. My friend agreed also. The place it self was clean and tidy but the staff were not particularly smiley. Lady behind the counter said it had been a long day so I can understand slightly the jaded look. Sorry but I wont be going back to the café :o(

Quick and tasty food, nice presented and not too expensive. Ideal for lunch. Staff very obliging when I changed the side dish.

Lukewarm reception, too speedy service, no attention to detail, cool & weak coffee, surly staff. Uncovered food/sweets on plates easily breathed or sneezed upon or touched by peoples clothes, not hygienic in my opinion. We certainly will give this place a miss as the lower class eatery doesn't tally with the high class shopping experience.

This is one for the Ladies who think M&S is a bit common. Men be warned, steer clear or better go to one of the excellent pubs nearby and wait for the credit card to arrive.

My friend and I decided to have the Christmas dinner 5/11/14.When it arrived it was practically cold, all the vegetables were hard. I ate the turkey, a few carrots and 2 potato's. When the table was being emptied the girl asked if everything was ok (plates had nearly all the dinner still on them) it was horrible, cold and hard vegetables my friend said (she only ate 1 parsnip) The girl apologised and later refunded the cost of the meal. I started to feel off about an hour later and when I got home was still feeling off. Later on the night I was so sick, really sick everything I ate from Browns came back up. I will Not be eating there again.

Went with friends before last Christmas. Had a Turkey and Cranberry Sandwich which I must say was very nice. There was a good, happy atmosphere and if you have a Browns Reward Card you can use it to accrue points with your food also. Always busy and would definitely go back again.

Decided to visit Brown's of Beverley today for afternoon tea... It'll be a long time before I go back. The restaurant was almost empty and for a reason that soon became apparent. The huge extractor fan mounted in the ceiling was making so much noise you couldn't be heard speaking without difficulty and after a few minutes and a half finished tea, with thumping headaches WE LEFT! Sorry Brown's, you lost two customers today.

We go in to Browns every week and always have a brows around the store and really look forward to a drink and something to eat in the restaurant .The staff are always so helpful , I'm in a wheelchair at moment and they are always so helpful and its always a pleasure . The food is really good quality and is served and presented very nicely .The spacious seating is very good and being able to look outside whilst eating adds to the pleasure .

No men's wear and not much of a range of anything else neither one thing or the other and Bad restaurant

Let's be clear that this is a department store cafe/restaurant, but please don't think that it is of the standard that you might find in the bigger yet not so much department store anymore department stores. The choice is brilliant and is cooked on site. You can get a breakfast all day, as well as daily specials. The prices are reasonable as well, especially when you consider the quality served up! If you want a quick non fussy cafe/restaurant in Beverley then you need to seek out Browns in Saturday Market! If you fancy a beer it also has a liquor licence, bottled not draft though!

sunday morning treat, walk into town across the westwood, wander through town from northbar,& call in at browns for breakfast. The best poached eggs (proper) with beans, on brown toast with a little pepper.Add a cup of tea & that is me set up for the day.Friendly staff, great location, & good menu for a cafe, could possibly be my favourite up market spoon in beverley.

Usually a weekly visit. An extremely well presented air conditioned restaurant and store. A little gem for Beverley. Superb food never disappointed. We have eaten the majority of their range of main meals and each one 10/10.Browns Big breakfast - is just the correct description BIG!!AFTERNOON TEA - Range of scones, strawberry tarts and made to order sandwiches are first class.Looking forward to when they start serving their Christmas lunches, the Christmas pudding really is delicious just wish I could get their recipe. I only wish the restaurant is local to me and it would save me cycling eighteen miles.Lovely, charming staff who offer a warm welcome to every customer. Everything about the store is outstanding. Well done.

Great staff great food great value! Highly recommend be it for a coffee or lunch really good. Conveniently located close to town centre and parking.

Been in a couple of times, both provided very good food but it can be a bit pricey and the surroundings are not as comfortable or welcoming as I would want. The staff were polite and the service good.

Eggs Benedict - loved it.Browns is a nice place to go and eat in Beverley. We've been a few times and always enjoyed it. The only little niggle is that you get lovely food, in nice surroundings and with great service but the cheapest nastiest sauce sachets. C'mon Browns - get some HP!

Great food great service from friendly staff all at a reasonable price.Had fish and chips there today fish had just the right amount of batter.Generally go there most weeks for breakfast on Saturdays which are very good.Decided to try their lunch menu and was just as good so give it a go

this is a light bite or hot lunch place witch we like to sometimes go ,it gets very busy .the down side is not very nice views outside
