Had to wait to be seated. Then had to wait for table t9 be cleared. Currently been waiting for 15 mins to be served. Others arriving after us have been seen and served. Appreciate it's busy but doesn't account for rudeness. Had to go and request to be served. No apology when I challenged why it had taken so long and that others served before us Food arrived wasn't very nice. Black pudding mash over the top and not really mashed. belly pork overly fatty. Mustard slaw in sandwiches??????? None existent Not impressed

Found Broom Mill on a Google search and we were pleased we did, we visited on a very wet day and were taken aback how busy it was but once you sample the menu and taste the food from the abundant menu to suit all tastes we could see why it was busy, we received a warm welcome with table service from friendly staff, the menu was varied with a lot of home produced fare, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and were well satisfied with the quality and price

We happened upon this gem of a place when we had a problem with our satnav - we were also starving and looking out for somewhere to stop for a late lunch. We were really glad to have found Broom Mill. I had a very good Ploughman's - my husband had one of the specials, peppered steak with new potatoes and carrots. The staff were very friendly and courteous and our food was served quite quickly. Only when we were both completely full and went to pay our bill did we catch sight of the amazing cakes on display by the till (a good thing, really, as we are both trying to lose weight but I have been dreaming of those cakes since we arrived home). We did pay a visit to the farm shop before leaving and bought a few things from there. It was nice to find a farm shop and restaurant that wasn't massively overpriced, as they are back home. We will certainly call in again next time we are up in the north-east (and I will have cake next time).

What a great gem! Live nearby but was the first visit to this place and gutted I haven’t been sooner! Absolutely lovely food. Enjoyed a pulled pork sandwich with chunky chips. I wasn’t a fan of the iced coffee, it tasted sweet. The staff were all excellent, very friendly and attentive. Staff in the farm shop were also very welcoming. It’s a lovely atmosphere and plenty of seating. Will definitely be back. Thank you 😊

My first visit in a very long time....ordered and ate breakfast which was okay but nothing to shout about...hollandaise sauce on my eggs benedict was very bland..although the ham and eggs were absolutely as very much what I expect from a farm shop . food order arrived and was fully eaten before our drinks. then proceded to order a cake and cornflake tart with more drinks. After waiting 30-40mins and only recieveing one drink. I watched someone walk out with my slice of Cornflake tart (as there was only one left) went to enquire to be told there was no tart left and a mix up with our order as It hadn't printed. although we recieved one of the 2 drinks we order....overall very poor experience...not enough servers...lots of dirty tables full of plates. don't think I will be going back anytime soon...much better run place in the area to visit. customer service could of been slightly better I feel as they made a massive mess up by selling the tart I had paid for to another customer and having no replacement, they could of atleast give our 2nd coffee for free for the inconvenience but there was no kind gesture.

First of all this is a positive review with a couple of observations. I have to say the staff are first class and really friendly surroundings are wonderful and it appears this business is evolving all the time which is great to see. We called in for Sunday lunch and the food was beautiful, I had the pork and the other half the beef. The meat just melted in the mouth. Only observations I would make is for the vegetables to be offered seperatly and also a gravy boat, as only come with a splash of gravy with hardly anything being covered. I did ask for extra gravy which was no problem, but think this should come as standard, also not sure about mushy peas on a Sunday lunch. All in all a great experience and of course we will be back to try other items on the menu.

Had the worst Sunday lunch it was tasteless, bland, lamb was fatty I know lamb can be fatty but there was more fat than meat, also had beef sandwich looks like the meat was steamed rather than roasted. Tasteless veg, roast pots not roasted, watery gravy overall will not return again. Seemed a few people complaining, staff just apologised

The rain fell heavily but we were able to find a car park space. We rushed to the restaurant. On entering the restaurant a waiter was cleaning a table and allocated it to us. Soon after we took our seats another waiter came and we ordered drinks. The waiter soon delivered our drinks and asked if we were ready to order our meals. She told us about the special menus for the day . All three of us ordered special menu meals. The special meals were delivered and we were asked if we needed anything more. We asked for some sauces and condiments. My pork meal was excellent except some of the vegetables were a little cool but tasty. We did not order desserts. I have been with friends to this restaurant before and every time we have had to wait for a group around our size to finish btheir meal before we wereallocated a table. On this visit a few tables were empty so the heavy rain must have reduced visitr numbers. It is advisable to book a table in advance.

went for lunch on Saturday, 3 of us got the bruch quite nice but 2 slices of bread and butter for £3 is really steep so it was an additional £9 for the 3 of use. Two of the family had the mince & dumplings and whilst it was plentiful it was rather grissly so not what we would of expected. Shop prices were really expensive as well.

3 adults and 1 dog. Not dog friendly. We called on a quiet Friday morning for breakfast but were told we had to sit outside for breakfast with a dog. My mistake for not checking out first. We were surprised because it’s a fairly grotty farm cafe! The lawned area by the BBQ was strewn with empty cans & we had to drag our dog off the filthy grass which was covered in someone else’s dog mess. I know it’s a working farm but the stench from cow muck was enough to suppress your appetite too. We had 3 full English & 3 coffees. The food was ok but the coffee arrived first and the food took so long we’d finished our drinks. I was also shocked to be charged .20p for a glass of TAP WATER? How greedy !!! Whilst we waited for the food to arrive we had a look in the shop. Nothing appeared to be priced. The stock was low for 10.30am on a morning and nothing looked particularly attractive. Don’t waste your time or money here there are far better farm shops & cafes.

We visited for a birthday Sunday lunch, as my daughter was down here. I booked the previous day even though the lady on the phone said I didn’t need to. We were not disappointed, I had been previously for breakfast a few months ago, which was also brilliant. The choice of meat was good, beef, chicken, lamb, pork and ham. When the food arrived we were very pleasantly surprised at the amount of meat, and the quality was very good with a Yorkshire pudding and loads of vegetables, all cooked just right. They has a small selection of bottled drinks, alcoholic and soft which were a good assortment. We then walked down to look around the farm shop where there was quite a good selection of farm produce. I will definitely go back again.

Called in to stock up our freezer with their delicious meat pies and meet products and could not leave without having one of their delicious lunches. Dining area bright and very clean, staff friendly, efficient and helpful. It was quite busy but we did not have to wait to long for our mince and dumpling dinners. The portion sizes are excellent, the vegetables, of which there was a good variety all tasted delicious, and normally vegetables don’t excite me. As for the dumplings they were light and fluffy and the very generous portion of mince was very tasted. Overall everything was so good and we came away ‘stuffed ‘, can’t wait to return.

We went for breakfast as my daughter had been previously and said it was great, she was not wrong. I had the standard (2 of each) breakfast, and it was really filling. The service from the man in the shirt and tie was really good, especially when he delivered the hot breakfasts. All I can say is that everything was laid out perfectly on the plate, it looked like it was from a magazine, the bread was delicious. The only thing I can say derogatory was it would have been nice to have had a free coffee refill, and the entrance road is a bit bumpy.

Called in with my husband on a rare day off together. He had steak pie which was steak (home bred meat) braised in red white with a great big pastry top with chips and mushy peas. I had the fish finger sandwich with chips and salad. The fish fingers were more like goujons in homemade batter (not frozen!) Both dishes were amazing portions, all freshly prepared and very very tasty. As we were absolutely stuffed we didn’t get a pudding in the cafe but did pop into the farm shop where we bought a piece of Bakewell tart each to take home. OMG it is the best I have ever eaten. Upon arrival the farmyard smells hit you before you even park the car. I almost left to find somewhere else to eat but thought I’d give it a go as the smell wouldn’t be noticeable inside the cafe. I enjoyed a decent cooked breakfast with no complaints about the food but coffee/tea isn’t included in the price. There were quite a few flies in the cafe and the smell did find its way in too. I understand that farms do smell and cows do attract flies (especially in the summer)but these should both be kept outside as they don’t contribute in a positive way to a fried breakfast.

We were on our way on the motorbike from Hebden Bridge to Consett on the way home. We only stopped here as the pillion was moaning about stiffness. After having consumed a large breakfast only 3 hours earlier I didn't have much space but decided on the full English as I expected good sausages and bacon, something that you can miss when you shop at Tesco. The place was very busy on a Saturday lunchtime, proven by the busy car park. We must have arrived just after a load of people as we had a long wait, but it was worthwhile. The portions were large but manageable, and the sausages were particularly noteworthy, but everything on the plate was great. The price was very reasonable for what you got on the plate. How I wished that I lived closer. I would be in there regularly. I am really struggling to fault the place. The only thing I could pick up was that the pepper pot on the table was empty. When that was the worse thing to happen, you know that there is little to complain about!Brilliant place. Do go, but expect a full car park!

After a night out, the wife and I woke up with a rumble in our bellies that needed filling. Our intention was to have an all day breakfast and we were recommended Broom Mill Farm. Five minutes down the road we thought we'd give it a go. Upon arrival the car park was full so that was a good sign being popular. We entered the café area after walking from the car park situated next to the cow shed. The smell could put you off your dinner but luckily inside you couldn't smell it. (I suppose you expect some farm smells when it's a working farm.) Looking at the menu board the idea of an all day breakfast was scrapped as we saw the carvery menu. At just under £6 it was a very wise choice and couldn't go wrong. The food arrived, hot and of a good portion, piled with choice of meat, veg and a large Yorkshire pudding all dripping with gravy. It was beautiful and very filling, a great surprise from a place I'd heard mixes reviews of in the past. I would definitely go back again. After a quick browse around the farm shop we were on our way with meat sweats and very happy bellies.

We called into Broom Mill Farm Restaurant and farm shop after driving past a few times. On our approach we were a little concerned as the animals are very nearby and a tad on the smelly side, it is however a farm, so we put this aside and ventured into the restaurant, we were so pleased we did. The restaurant it's self looks very quaint and had a lovely country cottage feel, very pleasant and homely. We were very pleased with the specials board, which is not listed online, advertising two main meals for £10. We found all of the food to be a very fair price. When the food arrived we were not disappointed, good size portions and plenty of flavour. I should point out this is not fine dining but homely rustic dishes. The Yorkshire pud whilst I do believe it was homemade, I think may have been reheated but tasted nice none the less. Drinks were nice and there is a good selection on offer.Deserts are priced at a similar level to other mid-range local restaurants but you get a good size portion and it is homemade which does make all the difference. The atmosphere was pleasant and as time got on the restaurant really filled up so word has obviously got around about this lovely little place. Tables did sometimes take a while to get cleared away but we put this down to how busy it got later on (we went on a Saturday, I imagine it's less busy during the week)Overall lovely place, good food and very fairly priced.

The breakfast sausage sandwich was good but nothing i would rush back for. The surroundings are sadly not so good - id possibly say a bit scruffy. The shop is disorganised and looks like it needs a good clean.

A very nice restaurant with lovely friendly staff. Not for fine dining as the table and chairs are what you would find in a cafe. However after saying that, it's not table and chairs that you have come to eat. All their pood is of generous portions. Much is sourced from their own farm so you know what you are getting. They are very popular for their Sunday lunches and therefore booking may be prudent. Good food and a proper farmhouse atmosphere. If there is a downside that may put you off. It is when you get out of your car and walk to the farmhouse, there is the smell from the cow byre. Not unpleasent...Smells of country!!. So if you are a city dweller or a townie. This assult on your nasal sensibilities may offend.Once you pass the byre, the smell is gone, so no lingering odours when dining on your scrumptious meal. Price is very reasonable. They offer prices for most ordinary folk.

Attached to a farm shop, this is a coffee shop that happens to serve meals. My better half and I often pop in for a late breakfast mostly at weekends. Sausage, bacon and black pudding all produced on the farm. Fine dining and silver service it is not, just good basic cooking. The Sunday lunch is very nice, also very busy so service may take slightly longer. This is a working farm and on hot days the walk through the yard can smell a bit ripe, but it is all part of the charm

I really enjoyed my beef Sunday lunch - it was fresh, hot, top quality and good size for a small. However my other half was very disappointed with the ham. It was very fatty and she left most of it. The visit wasn't what I'd call a success and I'd agree with other reviews about a lack of atmosphere and slightly disengaged and disinterested staff. The shop is dirty and disorganised and has the feel that's it's a bit forgotten - might just have been because it's a Sunday. We feel that there's better options close by.

We ordered lasagne which resembled cardboard. Gammon which was burnt and eggs full of shell. Baked potato was microwaved. Requested refund and left as food was inedible.

Stopped for lunch and decided on the two meals for £10.00, what a bargain. I had the mince and dumpling, with perfectly cooked vegetables, whilst my husband enjoyed the best ever steak and ale pie, and believe me he has eaten many before. The chunky chips were perfect, crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle - we will definitely be returning.

Called in passing for lunch as this is a working farm the cafe itself is very basic inside however three of us opted for different main courses all three of us enjoyed the food and the portions were substantial with real homemade chips, which left no room for cake or pudding. The staff were polite and helpful and would return here again for lunch.

Been a fan of Broom Mill meat for years and have visited on many occasions for excellent lunches and yummy farm-made cakes and bread.Today however was the first time we stopped for breakfast(brunch),and I have to say it was outstanding! Farm sausages, bacon, black pud, fresh tomato and mushrooms and the freshly baked, properly fried bread (not in a deep fat fryer but in bacon fat) was delish. Anyone else's breakfast will have a lot to live up to in future.

We stopped in to the farm shop to pick up some of their delicious goat and mango sausages and ended up having breakfast in the restaurant. A normal size English breakfast (not the HUGE XL) was easily big enough, nice yolky eggs, sausages, bacon, black pudding, tomato and hand cut bread. My wife had the eggs Benedict which also came with hand cut bread, home made hollandaise (not packet) and big chucks of farm bacon! Both for under £5 each, well worth a visit while you are at the farm shop buying something for later.

I visited with a friend for brunch on a Saturday and the restaurant was not overly busy, we found a seat easily and the waiting staff we very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is a farm restaurant, so it is very basic in layout (which I loved) and offers fresh, local food at an excellent rate. I had a small breakfast, which was delicious and my friend had a medium, the portion size was generous and it really was good value for money. There is a farm shop there too, which is certainly worth a visit. Both accept card payments. It's only a stones throw away from all of the new shops in West Auckand and I would visit here for food now instead of the larger chain cafes. On top of that, it is a working farm, so there is always the chance of seeing cows and pigs (we saw piglets) which would perhaps make a more exciting visit for younger guests than the standard fast food places offer down the road. I will be back.

Decided to call in here on the strength of the reviews. Breakfast was ok but the place lacked atmosphere. Granted it was only 9am on a Sat morn. The girl who served us was clearly having a bad day and we felt we were a nuisance and she couldn't be bothered to serve us. Such a shame as this would have been a good place to stop on our frequent trips to Northumberland

Been to broom mill farm twice this week, once for breakfast and once for lunch. Value for money it will not be beaten. Breakfast was lovely, all the trimmings, large portions, all for under a fiver. For lunch I had a roast beef dinner the mrs had steak and ale pie and chips. You could tell this was all homemade and was very good. Two lunch meals for a tenner! All set on a working farm from which the meat comes from and they also bake their own bread. Staff and service also good.

This place very much has the "working farm" feel about it with nothing pretentious or ostentatious going on here. The "log cabin" arrangement of the place is very much on keeping with the ethos of it and is a pleasant setting for the restaurant. The food really is the star attraction here and the meat is from their farm shop on the premises - honest and of excellent quality.Definitley worth a visit just for the shop and the food!

We visited here for Sunday lunch but wouldn't go back. Considering it's a farm with home grown meat, I expected the beef to be first class, but it was so tough and fatty we couldn't eat it. The meal was also cold so we left most of it.

My wife and I have had a very enjoyable lunch here on a number of occasions however our most recent visit will be our last. The place was quiet and our lunch arrived reasonably quickly, with the promise of coffee on its way. We ate half our lunch but still no coffee had arrived. I went in and asked about our coffee. Sometime later our coffee arrived along with a list of lame excuses, including that they had been a rush of orders which was strange as we were sat outside and anyone arriving would have passed our table. They forgot about our coffee but instead of being honest we got lame excuses and in fact were made to feel unreasonable having complained. Rubbish service!

Sorry Broom Mill Farm, we have been here on many occasion and the food and service has been great. However, today I was a little disappointed. The freshly cooked breakfast was very nice (as usual) but the service was quite poor. Many staff available but quite sullen and appearing as if everything was a chore. No eye contact from the young girl serving, poor social skills really to say that you are a food establishment. I had a coffee which was cold so I requested a fresh one - my complaint was accepted and a fresh coffee was brought to me but the cup tasted as if it hadn't been rinsed properly in the dishwasher and the coffee was very strong and over powered by the taste of the cup. I didn't like to complain again, I just thought it was best that I left quietly disappointed! The farm shop used to be a pleasant shopping experience too but this also has disappointed me today. Low stocks of everything, very disorganised, no staff around, not inviting at all.Sorry Broom Mill Farm!

Excellent home cooked food, cakes and great service. Great for coffee and cake, lots of choices too and very reasonably priced. The shop sells all meat produced on the farm or locally. Important to know where meat comes from so I buy all of ours from here. Local vegetables and other foods too! Support local!!

Broom Mill Farm is essentially a farm shop with a restaurant attached. If you are after a good value, large portion Sunday lunch just like you got at your mother's then this is the place to go. There is normally a selection of carved meats (and sometimes braised steak or steak pie) served with generous portions of veg, Yorkshire puddings and gravy. The restaurant can get very busy at peak time on a Sunday so I recommend an early or late visit. You can also get a Sunday lunch to take away if you cannot be bothered to cook.

Called in for coffee and cake. Food was good but staff could have been friendlier, it was hard work. Received our drinks then had to go looking for cakes after a 10 minute wait. There was no finesse to the service, which was a shame as surroundings were pleasant enough

On our last visit, we were disappointed, but am pleased to say, that their normally excellent standards, are back. We called in for lunch, and were greeted by friendly staff. We chose our meal, Ploughmans for me, Ham Salad for my wife. Portion sizes were excellent, particularly the ham. There was as much ham on the plate as one would see elsewhere on 2 plates. We swapped over some items, as my wife does not like a lot of salad, & hates onion. As for me, I hate Pork Pies, but she loves them, so that was swapped for loads of ham. It would have been nice to see on the specials board more info on the meals, as Ploughmans varies around the country, so would have helped in customer choice. But a really good meal, in pleasant surroundings, at a reasonable price. Added bonus is the Farm Shop, where they produce excellent ready meals, often cheaper than at Supermarkets, & meat etc, comes from the Farm. Top marks.

Parking is plenty and is a one way system, so don't try to get to the front out of laziness or you could get stuck during busier times and end up having to go back out and round into the main dual carriage way and roundabout if there is too much traffic. The parking is free and it is a gravel car park . As you enter there is a sign to wait to be seated, but don't wait if there are plenty of seats, as you'll be there forever. I think the sign should be put away during quiet times and brought out in busier times. Once seated it's easy to order, choose what you want from the menu and go to the counter (remember what your table number is). Massive cake/sweet selection at the till area so I suggest having a look there as well for sure! At first glance £4(something) for a Melba is a bit much but then when you see the size of it, it's fair. Delicious too! They have take away boxes as well, yum! The last time I went I tried the hot beef bap and it was really good, no chewy, gristle or fatty bits in the meat at all. Spot on. Time before was the cheese pie which I absolutely loved (my lactose intolerant body however rejected it, but was still worth it and I'll do it again NGL). The majority of the staff are lovely, I've never felt anyone has been rude (even when they seemed to be having a crappy and busy day). Have been a few times now and definitely will go again. Edit: it's also (well behaved) dog friendly.

I last reviewed this place in 2019 where my main issue was poor service and would you believe it things haven't changed. Service today was non existent. We were seated for over 10 minutes .... Not even a greeting. Front of house totally disorganised. It's a wonder the floor covering wasn't worn out because of the too-ing and fro-ing which never seemed to produce anything. This service is the worst I've experienced anywhere.. Cone on.... Get a grip !

A hidden gem of a pub. We were recommended by a friend to seek out this place just off the main road between the Eden Arms Roundabout and Newton Aycliffe. Good friendly staff. Food was lovely .Little Jill had the Pie of the day, Chicken and Ham, I had the Gammon. Both were really lovely. The only gripe i had was the overflowing wall mounted cigarette bin at the main door it was unsightly and off putting to us non smokers. Maybe move it or empty it more often. Only a little gripe and will not put us off returning.
