The Britannia is the most cosy pub I’ve been to in a long time! The food is absolutely fantastic I couldn’t recommend this place enough! Especially the steak and ale pie, bursting with flavour. The staff are ever so friendly, very happy and chatty, especially the two waitresses called Helen and Izzy if I remember correctly, received the best service from these two. However there was this young girl with dark hair who was very grumpy and standing there on her phone a lot throughout service especially with customers there, which is absolutely disgraceful and unprofessional! Also wearing her hair down which was also not the best as me and my husband were scared if we got hair in our food!! Other than that we were so so happy and will definitely be coming back! Thank you so much for an amazing meal. :)

The Gower is one of the hidden gems of the UK - stunning even on a cold blustery Autumnal day. And this pub is the perfect place to have a hearty lunch after being battered by the weather...

My partner and I visited the Britannia inn during a mini break as recommended by some locals on the beach and we were not disappointed! We sat in the main bar in front of the fire in a cosy little corner and were made to feel very welcome. The staff were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The drink selection was good, they know how to look after their beer and serve a good red wine. The specials boards had just the right amount of choice on them, as did the main menu. We had mussels to start with and the lamb for our main meal, both were absolutely superb! Both meals were well presented, well cooked and carefully thought out with flavours and textures working well together. The juxtaposition of modern vs traditional meant that you were getting traditional food with a much finer dining experience. I would highly recommend the Britannia Inn and will be returning as soon as possible! We've been back home over a week now and are still talking about our meal here!

loved the fact the food was locally sourced and the views are to die for! my only criticism is that my steak came with a gravy type jus on it, that wouldn't of been a problem if i hadn't already ordered a pepper sauce. a heads up would of helped. but all in all a very pleasant visit!

There was no pretentious clap trap here. Food was lovely, well-cooked and well-preserved. The staff were working hard and we're calm, efficient and friendly. We came to celebrate our pearl wedding anniversary on the Gower and this meal finished of a lovely day with our daughter and her partner.

the food could be so much better. My case is as follows......just up the road at The Greyhound Inn they do these wonderful baguettes and sandwiches absolutely stacked with high quality ingredients with a bowl of handcut chips that is a dream lunch....however the Britannia does a tuna sandwich with a smear of tuna, a hint of salad and the most weirdly seasoned chips Ive ever come across, they werent exactly bad , just inappropriate.....I had an aftertaste for hours afterwards. But! This is a lovely pub and anyone who ever finds themselves in this are should make a visit.....Ive been going there after a beach day, with my kids for years and now my kids are grown-ups (allegedly!) I still would want to go there!

A lovely refined place to eat. Very expensive with fine dining. Couldn't afford to go there very often. Young lad very efficient. Food was lovely though. Compliments to the chef.

A lovely quiet restaurant food ok, the gentleman was very helpful.a bit out of the way to get to in the winter, but a lovely drive in the summer would be fine.

Called in for lunch while on a full days walk in wet weather. Ate in the public bar, very comfortable traditional bar. Very prompt and friendly service, I had a steak baguette and my wife a tuna baguette, both came with chips and both were excellent and very good value. Looked like some decent beers on draught but as it was lunchtime and another six miles to walk, we had two pots of tea - £1.50 per pot, cheap! Menu looked good and based on the quality of our food at lunchtime I would like to return for a full meal sometime.

I am a regular visitor to this beautiful area and thought I'd try the Britannia Inn as a treat for the kids as they hardly ever eat out. I called in at lunchtime to ask if I should/could book a table for 6.30 and was told that it would not be busy. We arrived at 6.45 and there was already an hour wait for food. The garden is lovely at the back with nice views, an aviary, some rabbits and a plastic climbing shoe for younger children, so we stayed. After waiting 20mins at the bar we ordered food which came surprisingly quickly but it was a joke, the salt marsh lamb burger for £10 was very thin, not what you would expect for a local burger, it came with a ramekin of Chips on a small board, a bit of lettuce and tomato in the burger and a pappy white bun that broke as soon as I tried to eat it. The children's sausage and chips was a reasonable size, (with more chips than the adult burger meal) and a small salad but the pasta dish was tiny, approx half a mug full just dropped in a bowl, and nothing else! We ate in about 5 minutes and left to find more food as we were starving. The lack of shops open at 8pm and an hour wait for take away chips at the next pub meant that we all went hungry, we were camping nearby and it was our last night. I thought meals at pubs like this were a thing of the past, why try and save money by reducing things like pasta and chips and have guests leaving hungry? I worked out that the pasta and tomato sauce meal the kids had would cost me about 15p to make at home which I paid app. £4 for. Very disappointed, seems like a rip off tourist trap, avoid if possible, I certainly won't be going again. On the plus side, the staff were very friendly even though they were very busy. I think the chef needs to look at portions and the owner needs to eat there with some kids because I only saw disappointed parents.2 stars only for the location and staff, 0 stars for quality and quantity of food. No excuse these days£35 for 1 adult and 3 children incl 7 soft drinks. Reasonably priced if the food was up to it.

OK - so the Britannia has had lots of 'excellent' reviews, so what went wrong?I don't usually bother with restaurant reviews, as I generally just pop into place for something basic, like coffee and cake. Usually, they're fine, and it's the sort of food and drink that's easy for anyone to prepare. Not so with the Britannia. Here's what happened...I ordered a latte, toasted teacake and a scone with jam and cream. Even the lousiest beach caFe has been able to manage this during the previous several weeks of travelling. The boy behind the bar at the Britannia simply messed up everything.* Despite having a 'proper' coffee machine, he managed to provide something awful and instant, which took some vigorous stirring on my part to get it dissolved. It wasn't latte. I doubt it was even coffee.* Ping! That'll be the microwave warming up my toasted teacake. It was stale, and must have been toasted a day or two previously, and bunging it in the microwave didn't disguise this,.* Ping! That'll be the scone... stale... rock-hard. It came with a tiny blob of jam and a little puff of cream from an aerosol can.Net result... Three simple items that a chimpanzee could prepare... completely ruined!Congratulations Britannia. You have earned my first ever 'terrible' review of any UK establishment. You're in the restaurant business, so I don't need to waste my time telling you how to do your job. You should know how to do a simple latte, teacake and scone. If your staff can't do that, then for heaven's sake find someone who can!The place wasn't busy when I was there, but looking round the bar, I noticed glum, unsmiling faces, and people leaving large amounts of uneaten food on their plates. A bit of a bad day all round?

Nestled in a valley in North Gower the Britannia is a real surprise. Outside and immediate interior dont look promising but sit down, have a pint of Gower Gold and enjoy excellent food in the bar or restaurant/lounge. Kids welcome, the Britannia has a big outside space overlooking the Loughor Estuary.Food not served all day and when we were there booking recommended in the restaurant.
