This was my second time staying at this hotel and I did not deal with one kind, friendly or helpful staff member apart from one of the security men who had way more respect for me than the receptionists. First of all when I checked in I was greeted with 3 men challenging me with the confirmation email, which I showed them and my ID - this was not good enough and they needed the booking number and I explained my friend had booked the room. This delayed me getting into the room. No one told me that if I wanted a late checkout I had to arrange it then and there. In the morning someone knocked on the door and said go downstairs to pay for the late checkout, to which me and my friend went down straight away. I asked to speak to a receptionist privately and explain I am 7 months pregnant and I need a few more hours before my long journey ahead, she was very argumentative about the rules and I said someone told us we can come downstairs to pay for the addictional hours and she accused me of lying? I asked if I can speak with someone else, they spoke in their language (may I add I can speak bengali and hindi which they didn’t realise) so the damage was already done at this point, as they had a private conversation where I know it didn’t matter what I said it was going to be an argument as these people are on a power trip. A manager came who was also very rude and kept saying “it’s policy that each guest can only have an hour extra” so I challenged him and said - are you able to show me the policy? He wasn’t able to, obviously and showed me a random welcome letter that had nothing to do with the argument and all the members of staff proceeded to laugh at me. I found this both upsetting and frustrating as they were treating me like I was a rude hungover customer, when all I was asking for was a few hours extra that I was told I could pay for. It didn’t end there. After we checked out, we went to the bar area and got a coffee and some soft drinks, I needed somewhere to charge my phone before my journey so we thought as we were guests of the hotel, we could use the downstairs area. The bar manager came and said “this isn’t a free hotel you need to leave if you’re not buying drinks” - I said we bought some upstairs and now we are waiting for the Uber we will be leaving in 5 minutes. He was having none of it, he was very insulting and argumentative and by this point we had enough so we argued back with him because we were fed up. DIGUSTING establishment, awful staff, unfriendly and very unprofessional. The location might be good but it is not worth spending your money here for convenience when these people lack customer service skills which is an integral part of their job. Will never return and will make sure people know how they treat pregnant women with no care of respect. If I could give this place zero stars I would.

I’m honestly not sure where to begin here, should I start with the no heating in the the rooms, the very hard wheelchair access to the rooms, an actual pillar inside my room without a view (because there was no window in my room), a combination lock on the toilets on the ground floor, the list goes on. This is by far the worst hotel that I have ever stayed at! They don’t even clean your room during your stay.

Very good stay in this hotel which could hardly be better placed. Room without window (but we knew that when booking so no surprises) quite correct, clean, spacious. Those who complain about this in the comments should just take a room with a window... The interior of the hotel is very beautiful and the breakfast is very complete (small problem with weekday times but Jazeel was able to find a suitable solution for us!). For the price, in Manchester, in such a good location, we found it very good (especially since the room is primarily used for sleeping, we don't spend the day there so it was more than sufficient). We were even quite surprised by the overall Google rating, it deserves better.

You get what you pay for. We've stayed at this hotel 3 times as it is dog friendly, well located and quite cheap. But it comes at a cost. The rooms are very average at best. The hotel looks impressive from the outside but inside you can see that it's not looked after. The fact that it's dog friendly is very much appreciated and it comes at an extra cost of £10 per night. The breakfast here is the worst. We've had it once and it was literally the worst hotel breakfast I've ever had. The security guys, I get that they are doing their job, but after a certain time they are very intimidating, asking us questions and checking if my partner (male) knows me ( female), if we are together and asking me for the room number to check if I actually stay there even though we've come and gone from the hotel multiple times per day and they've seen us before. I guess they've seen many things happen but they could be better at it. As I said at the beginning, you get what you pay for. It is a cheap hotel in the centre of the city but not one of the good ones in general. It gets the job done.

The hotel is centrally located within Manchester making it an ideal venue from which to enjoy all that the city has to offer. Predictably Its rooms are clean, tidy and warm as one would expect, though this was evidentially not the case when I recently stayed at the Travelodge in Scarborough (see review). It’s breakfast service is organised efficiently and the breakfast area is large enough to cater for many people, with plenty of room for all, hence making it a very relaxed experience for the start of the day. All the food was hot and there is a wide selection of vegetarian and meat based offerings. The breakfast staff were welcoming and efficient. Similarly the staff on reception were efficient and most engaging making the check-in and checkout procedures simple and easy to do. They were most helpful when providing directions to local areas of interest too. I was offered a room upgrade when I chose to have breakfast as part of my stay, going from a room without a window, to one with. Once again I’ll handled very efficiently. Although I didn’t opt for an early checkin they were able to offer me a room when I arrived, so I didn’t have to store my luggage in the baggage checkin. This made a great difference to me, and was offered straight away due to a room being available. A very human way to operate. The price of the accommodation including breakfast was very very reasonable for a stay in such a beautifully appointed hotel, bang in the city centre. It is apparently that the staff all enjoy working there, and that imbues the hotel with a very warm and inviting atmosphere. I recommend recommend the hotel without hesitation. Enjoy!!

Good location. quiet. The staff is also very responsive. It has a retro feel to it. However, the shampoo and body soap in the bathtub are simple and there are no other amenities. It may not be suitable for long-term stays of more than 3 days.

One star just for the location. Hotel that absolutely does not deserve its 3*! A major complete renovation to be planned. “Rooms” without windows! Unthinkable and yet... A visit to the lobby and a drink at the bar, this is the only justification for stopping there. Afterwards, it all depends on the amount you would spend on it.

We weren't sure about booking here in light of some of the reviews but, read beyond the star markings and you discover some pretty poor reviews that aren't actually what the hotel is about. We stayed here recently - an executive twin and a family room whilst taking grandkids to Manchester United. We were there for three nights. Apart from some confusion about checking in as the two rooms arrived separately it eventually worked well. One criticism is that the check in staff sit behind perspex screens which is fine but, quite frankly, useless if you are hard of hearing as my lady is. The rooms were large, comfortable and the wifi worked well. The executive twins at the back were quieter than the family room at the front but it's a city centre hotel. The twin made do with a fairly bassic TV; the family room, with it's two king sized beds, got a large smart tv. All of the party were impressed with the comfort and space in the hotel. Some of the paintwork wasn't in the best of condition - show me a city centre hotel that is. The flip side of that it's got a truly amazing entrance hall and staircase with chandaliers. The location is spot on to visit Manchester being a stone's throw from Piccadilly Gardens and easy walking distance of everything this city has to offer. We didn't eat there as there are lots of alternatives nearby. The staff were friendly and very willing to help. Starting with the girls on the phones when we made the bookings giving us good prices to the security guy who was the font of all wisdom. So, I have to ask, it's a city centre 3 star hotel with the facilities that brings. It's comfortable, friendly and incredibly well priced. What's not to like?

Honestly not a great place for a wheelchair user in my experience. On attending the hotel there is a push button outside to notify staff you have arrived. Wasn't sure if it worked as there is no light or sound, staff member arrived after a few minutes but told me their accessible entrance was broken so I had to use a staff entrance around the back of the hotel. Not a pleasant way in, lots of tight corridors and required a member of staff to enter and leave the building due to it being a staff only route. Room was large but the bed was very uncomfortable. Bathroom was small with a bath so there wasn't room to move around to use. I wasn't planning to have breakfast in-house but decided to give it a try in the morning. Went downstairs and paid, asked how I got to the breakfast bar as it was split level but told there was no access down. Staff did offer to bring me things but that really removes my autonomy and I would have liked to have seen the food that was being offered. Wished I had been made aware of this before paying, I decided to get a refund and check out to go get breakfast elsewhere. Again, had to be taken by a staff member to the staff exit where we had found that someone had locked the fire door and broken the bolt so there was no way out. Was taken back to reception where I was told I would have to be carried out the front door down the stairs. I was not willing to do this. A security guard offered another entrance with less steps. Luckily I do have some mobility so I was able to make my way up these steps while staff brought up my chair. Staff were polite, helpful and apologetic but this whole stay was a terrible experience. I will not be returning and my recommendation to any other wheelchair users is to avoid this hotel.

They "upgraded" me to a "better" room, but it was terrible, no heating, you could feel the air coming inside from the window. The furniture is old or broken. Some of the staff were very kind, but some others weren't. And they charged you extra 2 pounds I don't know why. Wifi is not free. And the only functioning lift was always being used and was so slow so you have to use the stairs every time (beautiful but long ones). The floor is very noisy. It was very cheap I must say, but the service it's not good enough even for its price.

We spent 3 nights in the hotel. We were warmly welcomed at reception and given a free upgrade. The location of the hotel is great. The building is impressive from the outside, just like the magnificent staircase. The room itself was very simple, but okay for the price we paid. Unfortunately there was no room service, which is of course not so good for a 3-day stay. The breakfast was simple but OK. I look at everything in relation to the asking price.

Hi, stayed here for 2 nights and can honestly say this is a solid 3 star hotel. I heard mixed reviews about the rooms before I arrived, so was a little concerned. Check in was fine, had a room on the 3rd floor, and the room was nice, the bed was comfortable, and the only downside was the shower curtain which sticks to you while showering! The hotel feels a little old fashioned or maybe vintage is the better description. 😄

Stayed here numerous times but the night time door man was a bit over zealous this time. Even though we had our door keys with us and showed it to him when we went back to the hotel he still asked for our room numbers. Why do we have to give that to him too?! The door keys weren’t enough?! Utterly ridiculous. I spoke to other people in the lift and they had similar issues. The only reason people stay here is the location really, nothing else.

Where do I start! This is possibly one of the worse hotels I've ever stayed in. Paint falling from the ceiling during the night, only one socket in the room and no windows (there was a skylight). Room was very basic and geim looking. Room wasn't that clean but shower was good. There was stains on bath towels which was disgusting. Location was fantasic and price was good based on what you get. Very strange couldn't control the heating in the room. Heating was controlled by front office and was put on full blast until 1130 at night. This was extremely uncomfortable as there wasn't any widows in the room (there was askylight that barely opened). To make things worse the bed was right next to radiator. Absolute night from hell to say the least. Other than location I wouldn't recommend to anyone.

DO NOT STAY HERE, we checked in after a not so friendly welcome only to find out there was people in the room we were supposed to be staying in. The staff were not helpful at all and seemed to be arguing with a lot of the guests. The place were very run down. We asked for a late check out for the inconvenience of having people in our room, they agreed and twice housekeeping came into our room trying to get us out so the message obviously wasn’t passed on. I wouldn’t waste your money staying here there are much better options in Manchester.

Would be grand. Rooms are cheap (£111 p/n) and cheerful. However, for me the service at night is what irritated me. A security check each and every time. Made it feel a bit more like a prison than a hotel.

Hotel with excellent location!! Large rooms with very good heating; which is great for you on rainy days to hang your clothes when you come back wet!! You don't hear about noise, the inhabitants are clean, even with the carpet, which they vacuum (we've seen it) hahaha. If I have a small drawback it is the bed, it is hard. But if you come to Manchester to meet him, you will fall in love. You don't have time to look at what the bed is like.

Really nice hotel, stayed here with a friend for a United match. We upgraded rooms to a family four double twin and it was massive. Price is amazing for normal rooms and even the deluxe room we got I would describe as competitive. The service is phenomenal, we had to book a room in short notice due to our flights home being canceled due to a storm and Azik at the desk sorted everything out immediately. I even made a mistake when rebooking and he sorted absolutely everything. My personal experience was almost completely positive. My only complaints are the area feels fairly rough at night but is well staffed with security. The room was a tad hot even with the windows open

Our booking was terrible! We had booked well in advance via bravofly. When we arrived after a long journey, we couldn't believe our eyes. There were dirty people walking around in the lobby, some of them dancing wildly in the hallway, shouting and obviously on drugs. The staff had done nothing about it. Then when we checked in we asked if we could have a room with a window, which was denied because they were completely booked. When we arrived in the room, we almost fell off our stools: The ventilation was super loud, you could hear everyone in the hallway, the bed was dirty (with hair and crumbs on the sheets) and just plain horrible. We didn't have any nerves, went back to the reception and said that we would like to check out again immediately because the room did NOT at all correspond to what we expected from the pictures...Then suddenly we were offered another room (with a window, etc.)... Even a better room wouldn't have made the whole atmosphere and feeling in this hotel any better. We then changed hotels. It's a shame, it could be done much better.

Went with concerns based on reviews I had read but was pleasantly surprised. It's an amazing building with old lovely areas of architecture. We were assisted by staff with our luggage from the coach and it was in our rooms after booking in and getting the lift up. Our room was a double deluxe. Clean, welcoming modern TV. As cleaning staff were of for Christmas lots of tea/coffee/milk and extra towels were left and plenty more at reception if required. Wayne Allen entertained in the evening with good music. Food available was with limited choice but plenty to eat. Not gourmet but good. Staff made every effort to serve us all with a hearty breakfast on Christmas day followed by a 3course dinner × glass of cherry and buffet later so no-one went hungry. Staff were amazing. Polite, helpful nothing to much trouble. I would go back and the hotel it didn't deserve some of the bad reviews for the price paid. If you want 5* then expect to pay for it. Thank you for a pleasant Christmas stay.

Here for 4 nights over Xmas on a coach trip. Quite happy with the big double room as I travelled alone. There were afew teething problems but those were sorted out after I was given a different room. Only one lift was working. The meals were OK, soup salad main but only cake for dessert. The Christmas day meal was disappointing. No choice at all. Soup, main and pudding. The soup was good. The main was not good , all frozen, sprouts, carrots and potatoes, and not a large portions. Xmas pud and custard was dessert. They did serve coffee, mince pies, and Xmas cake in another room after. The cold buffet tonight was actually a hot buffet so I was very pleased with that meal. I don't eat breakfast so I can't comment on that. On the whole I don't th8nk the hotel is bad as some of the reviews make out. It is warm in the rooms 24 hours but you can turn off the radiator if you choose. The hotel is very central, a great location. I slept very well it was quiet. All in all I would stay here again.

Truly awful. At check in you are met with a demand for photo ID from every staying guest which is pointless and very unwelcoming. In our case we were given a room on the 6th floor bearing in mind the lift only travels to the 5th floor so we had an extra flight of narrow claustrophobic stairs to climb to reach our room Floorboards are noisy on the way up but nothing compared to our room where it is impossible to move without loud creaking AT EVERY STEP! And it's not just the floors, I had a terrible night's sleep due to the comings and goings of other guests talking/shouting, creaking their own floors and snoring. Yes actually hearing the guests in the next room snoring as if they were in a tent next to yours on a family campsite. If this had been a cheap option I would still have been disappointed but at £80 a night this place is disgusting. Also the demand to see our room keys on return from a night out at 11pm from the rude, Pringle scoffing doorman was unnecessary and further unwelcoming. Don't be fooled by the glamorous staircase, a remnant of this building's glory days,it is now a dilapidated hole staffed by cold, disinterested and rude workers.

Slept well. Chain missing on inside of door of room but lots of cameras and several male staff on reception. Three male receptionists on desk and two male door men porters in reception area. Other minor issue noticed second night a small puddle very small in bathroom very small drip from toilet staff said if it wasn't an issue maintenance would look in morning female cleaners as I was leaving said they would get maintenance to fix as I was vacating room as a customer I would recommend and was happy walked to tesco 3 minutes down road and also a local pub called the farmers was very close by if honest the bar prices despite being cashless were fair lots of tv screens in bar and lounge area some with sound some in mute to watch furnitute and chairs were comfortable and clean and bar staff very helpfull

I found this hotel amazing at the price they offered. The location is great and near the station. Hotel rooms are clean and I believe recently refurbished so very clean and shiny. Earlier I tried to ignore to book this hotel but after living here I am surprised with the facilities, breakfast and room cleanliness.

Expensive on a Saturday when it's just a room like any other day. I remember when it used to be £50 with prosecco 🥂.

Just for context, I booked a £45 room, not a £200 room. Good sized room with a table & 2 chairs + a make up table / desk with chair. Yes the room was slightly shabby but everything was clean, everything worked and they had all the items you needed: kettle, tea, coffee etc. hair dryer. There was security on the door and the rest of the hotel was clean & staff welcoming. Excellent central location. Great value for money.

The room is quite good at this price, but the shower in the bathroom is very inconvenient. The hot and cold water seem to be separated on both sides, which is a fly in the ointment. The location is very close to the long-distance bus terminal, and it is also very convenient to take the bus to the airport👍🏼

Don't understand bad reviews They ask for ID on check in which is great for security. Security guards ask to see you room key to get into the hotel at night - again great for security. Clean and decent beds. No thrills. They are doing building work outside (hotel has no control over this) so recommend earbuds.

It’s not worth your money. Nowadays when everyone needs a Wi-Fi, in this hotel it’s not free you need to pay for it. You won’t feel welcome, staff are not even smiling.

The room was ok, everything seemed to work and it was kept warm. Bed was decent. The main issue was the musty mouldy smell which overpowers you as you walk in. The staff are have no training in service, there’s no free WiFi (its 2024 and this hotel wants people to pay for WiFi) there are bouncers at the door in the evening checking your reservation as if it’s a dodgy nightclub or you’re a felon trying to break into the Hilton hotel - but that’s the thing it’s not the Hilton it’s a rundown hotel full of odd characters. I wouldn’t linger in the lobby for too long. The room was the executive double -£100 a night - there was nothing executive about it and certainly wasn’t worth that price. Avoid this place if you value your dignity.

Stayed here last night, we booked a deluxe room, but it was far from deluxe. The rooms are very tired and dated as you can see from the photographs. It was clean, towels, bedding etc. The windows were tiny and filthy on the outside. but certainly not worth the money, sadly we won't be back

The hotel doesn't deserve the sometimes bad reviews - or it was only recently renovated. My room was clean, quiet and well equipped. The central location, a three-minute walk from Piccadilly train station, is ideal when traveling by plane and train. A really recommendable city hotel.

Great location. However : - cleaning is not done every day, we had to ask the staff several times to clean for us. - blood stain on the sheets, when we asked for another duvet the agent was very annoyed. - heating did not work in the room, we had the right to additional heating. It was therefore extremely hot in the room and it was also impossible for us to ventilate the room a little because the window was boarded up. -breakfast which leaves something to be desired, buffet very empty and not varied. -the supposed “large double bed” is I think not even a 140X190….

We were not actually in the hotel but in Bar Rouge which is part of the hotel. It's a sports bar so lots of televisions showing sport. And dear reader, they have got Tetley Smooth on draught! If you remember this bar as being Saturdays Nightclub in the 80's, you're showing your age! Look at my other reviews to see where I've been!

Absolutely terrible hotel, I would never stay here again. The room was noisy with absolutely terrible phone signal, probably intentional so people have to buy their overpriced wifi package. The 'free' wifi they offer is for 20 minutes and only available in the foyer. The porcelain in the bathroom was chipped and moldy. There was no big light in the room, only 2 rubbish lamps. The staff were rude and unhelpful and the noise from the maintenance/storage room placed inexplicably in and amongst the guests rooms was unforgivably loud and obnoxious. No hangers for clothes and towels. A smart TV with no access to the internet making it pointless. All in all, a terrible terrible experience. Would give negative stars if possible.

I stayed for one night on a Saturday without a breakfast. First impressions were great. Grand entrance with lovely staircases and impressive chandeliers. Was a slight delay getting to reception to check in but nothing too much. This was when I discovered the booking website I used made a mistake but the hotel changed it for me - which was good on there part. I then discovered about Manchester's tourist tax. I was charged £1.20 and have since been made away that this is per room. Whilst the hotel can do nothing about this - I would rather pay this when booking the room and not when arriving. It's also a good job I had my wallet on me - I don't normally when travelling as you need to provide ID on arrival. The receptionist then said I was the 2nd floor and in room 202A. Take the stairs or the lift. Not been a massive fan of lifts, I opted for the stairs. The first set of stairs I seen was behind a door which was guarded by a member of doorstaff. He was quite abrupt with me and said not these stairs and pointed to the lift. I give up at this point and used the lift. Upon exiting the lift I realised the staircase was the big one in the middle. Maybe I should of noticed this as it was so grand. I then went to the room. Opened the door and first thing I noticed that there was no natural light. I had a room without windows. The temperature was extremely uncomfortable. On a positive the room was extremely clean and both sides of the bed had power but one side had a massive pillar between the side of the bed and the bedside table. Not an ideal situation. Also I didn't use it but the TV was so small it was suitable for a hospital bed. I headed out for a bite to eat and watch the second session of the World Snooker Doubles. This was a main factor in choosing the hotel as it was near the Manchester Central and Shudehill coach station. After the session I returned to the hotel and was greeted by security asking for a room card. Again, I found the doorman extremely abrupt. I went to my room and unfortunately the tempature was even higher. I had a cool shower to try and cool down and climbed into bed. The bed was sooo comfortable but it was simply to warm to settle. But what sleep I did have was good. I wasn't booked in for breakfast and when checking out there was no members of staff to chat with and simply was a key card drop.

A very last minute booked, booked and checked in within an hour, used the multi storey carpark round the corner. It was undergoing some refurbishment work when we stayed but not impacting, staff nice and polite, room clean, the breakfast is worth it as you get a late checkout with it and a bar on site, Chinatown and the village on the door step as well as town shopping.

I've stopped at this hotel many times and and never had a bad room, yes the rooms are old fashioned, The room is furniture mismatched like the corner of Britsh Beart Foundation charity shop, The beds are always comfortable, the shower works great, plenty of complementary tea and coffee and the TV always works Can be noisy at times I could hear the couple in the next room having inmate sexual relations lasted all of five minutes so I presume they was married, no big issue The location is fantastic, team on reception are polite, security was friendly when came back worse for wear, If you are on budget want a hotel central and don't mind 90s chic rooms, that's clean and tidy this is perfect

Good location, weird reception. We asked if we could pay for the room splitting in 2, but the person behind the desk didn’t accept it. It was awkward, then our keys didn’t work, and the check out is at 10am, so don’t drink the day before your last cos this is literally nunnery hours, also our room doesn’t have windows and I am writing this review only 15 minutes into this experience. Ordered 2 classic box meals and requested that one comes with no sauce on the burger and the other comes with everything. The order turned up wrong and when I rang up they didn't seem bothered at all and just wanted to hang up so rang the owner and he had the same attitude just not seeming to be bothered at all.. awful takeaway wouldn't recommend at all none of them are friendly and they all couldn't care about getting your order right

The staff couldn’t care less if your food is correct, hot, or edible. Give you the wrong order literally every time you go in! Put labels on burgers with allergens yet still add them, no staff on restaurant floor, about 3 teenagers in the kitchen who don’t know what they’re doing! Beggars outside and inside is Full of teenagers fighting and mouthing off! Not a place I want to take my children to,
