I come here every six weeks or so when the dog gets a haircut. I thought I'd return and se if it was as good as the first time, and I wasn't disappointed. Good location, great coffee, good wifi, very friendly staff, good quiet music. My only worry is that the more five star reviews it gets the more popular it will become and the harder it will to get my favourite seat.

Popped in here for a light lunch and was not disappointed. The old fashioned ambiance and gentle non obtrusive background music of a bygone age, made for a now rare but very civilised experience. With only seven tables seating about 20 people, the coffee house was comfortably full but were were quickly served with delicious good value food which tasted home made. The choices are not huge but the range should cater for all palates and after all, this is advertised as a coffee house. The staff are absolutely delightful and helpful to the extreme. We were a group of four and between us had quiches and tomato soup. The portions were more than adequate and we considered good value. Being a coffee house, the choice of hot drinks is excellent. I had a hot chocolate which was memorable and the best one that I have had for quite some time. The whole experience was like stepping back in time in the best possible way - the food was tasty, the service excellent and the whole experience very civilised. Thank you to Bridges for taking me back to a gentler time which I thought until now was impossible to replicate.

Went for lunch with my Australian friends and wife - we all ordered the soup. The soup was ok although served in small bowls with bread. At least one slice of bread appeared to be mouldy which we pointed out to the waitress. The slice was grabbed away and she said it wasn't mould. As we checked each slice of bread, some of which was the heel of the loaf, before eating the waitress suddenly grabbed the plate, saying "you're obviously going to inspect each slice", took it away without an offer of an apology or fresh bread. Absolutely deplorable behaviour.

Popped in here on Saturday morning with some friends. We were going walking on some of the paths surrounding Kirrie and fancied having a coffee and bite to eat before we headed off. This place was quite simply excellent. One friend had a well-filled bacon roll, while both the other and I had scrambled eggs on toast - quite clearly free-range eggs by the colour and taste - delicious! Also had a round of coffees which was enhanced by a free top-up, but did well to resist the wide range of great looking home made cakes on display. Staff were very friendly and chatty too. We shall undoubtedly be back walking in the area again in the future and this will most certainly be our pre-walk/post-walk café of choice. The Angus towns - all seven of them - are well served by a new wave of modern cafes providing excellent coffee and food. In terms of quality of fare and warmth of welcome for the lonesome visitor wanting to check e-mails over a strong cup of coffee, or a respite for harried parents with a bevy of children and pushchairs. The food is excellent. Nearly all locally sourced, fresh and tasty. It is also excellent value. Kirriemuir is indeed a lucky little country town to have The Bridges Coffee House.By the way, The cafe is also an excellent starting or finishing point for an exploration of the town, Barrie's Birthplace, Bon Scott's memorial, the Camera Obcura or the wonderful Peter Pan themed park with the old cricket pavilion for the game James Barrie loved all his life. A walk around old Kirriemuir, a peak through the varied windows of the town's shops, a visit to the Museum or Kinnordy Loch are all set in the wonderful landscape of the Angus Hills and Glens, wrapped around by the fertile acres of the Vale of Strathmore.A visit to The Bridges Cafe is a lot more than a quick bite and a cups. It is the launch point for enjoying one of Scotland's most enchanting country towns.

We won't be returning, there were just too many things that have put us off. Very unfriendly welcome, to being seated right next to the lift where hotel guests were coming in and out (yes, we should have said something, but there should never have been a table put there). As for the food, who thought it would be a good idea to smother the loaded fries in loads and loads of cheese sauce (was supposed to be cheese) that was the most awful thing to keep eating. As for the Townhouse salad, how can they even call it a salad and charge those prices. Was literally small portions spooned on the plate of what ever was in the fridge with chips and your chosen salad (my child is far more creative with food). Then there's the scampi, where they put the chips and the barely cooked bullet peas in separate dishes, but all it did was make it look like very little and certainly wasn't worth the money paid. My teenaged child ordered a reduced portion as they wanted to get a pudding. However, they were so disappointed in their meal where a lot of it was left and they were then never going to order anything else. It costs a lot of money going out for a meal and we will happily pay a bit more if we know we're going to enjoy our meal. The Townhouse was a huge disappointment, not recommended.
