My fave cafe in Balham ! Such gorgeous and lovely vibes ! There was a fab barista called Abbey who was extremely friendly and made me the best Matcha in London. Defo recommend for a coffee on a Sunday morn x

Wow…just WOW! Pouring with rain so came in to escape! Even though the staff were very busy they were super friendly and accommodating! The food was simply the best and love the Australian vibe of the place Will be a new favourite regular of ours

The best Aussie brunch in London, would highly recommend the poach eggs aswell as their banana bread to finish off your meal. Alison took care of us brilliantly and all the staff were very welcoming.

Came in for Brunch today with my family and was beyond impressed with the service from the beginning to the end! Special shout out to the young lad Ollie who looked after us! Even gave the little one an extra marshmallow - planning on coming back again next weekend, highly recommend

Delicious espresso, charming atmosphere and staff

Well, what a disaster. Avoid at all costs. Went for a Friday lunch (12:45pm), ordered our simple toasties and waited...and waited...and waited some more (35 minutes). We were not checked upon (even to refresh our coffees) and it took us to query where our order was before being told "we've had a rush on (go figure on a Friday lunch-time) but it's on it's way". We waited 5 more minutes - still nothing. Waiter sheepishly comes over that "there has been a printing error - can give you a free coffee each". We queried when our toasties might arrive - was told two minutes. We requested they be fully comped - as we only had an hour and was not pre-warned about any dealys. Five minutes later, waiter came with no toasties but an offer of 25% off. We politely declined and left after over 45 mintues. If they had engaged with good customer service, by checking if we needed any further drinks etc 20 mins in, the "error" would have been spotted. They just didn't bother. Will go to Milk next time.

This place is great! Smoothies are amazing and the food is fab!! Beth and her team made us feel so welcome and attended to - not one to miss!

First time dining here and I was really disappointed. I had high hopes for this place but was genuinely really let down by the quality and price. I paid £11 for one slide of toast with avocado and one poached eggs. I really didn’t think this amount of food and the quality reflected the price. The staff were friendly but we didn’t even have cutlery on our table, we asked for it and no one gave us it so we had to go and get it ourselves. Unfortunately, I won’t be returning :((

Dined here twice now and the service has been poor both times having to wait 20 minutes to be served. One of our drinks then took another 15 to come out after everyone else’s. One of the water glasses we were given had a lipstick mark on and the rest were not properly clean. The food isn’t bad but it’s not great or worth the price.

Visited for the first time this weekend and was very impressed with our experience. Though there was a bit of a queue to get in, it moved quickly and the manager did well to make us all feel acknowledged. The food and coffee was great, in particular I recommend the corn fritters and spicy chicken toastie.

Sunday 18th we experienced the worst coffee and service by two young females They have lost us…!!!

Brickwood is such an amazing place to go for coffee, brekkie or lunch! The staff are so wonderful and kind, the coffee is always fantastic and the food is to die for (especially the dim sims!) Special thanks to Beth and Linda for always giving 200% to their service

Nice solid brunch location in Balham. The food was good and great portion sizes. My favourite was the Granola Yoghurt, I would definitely get that again and the mixed berries in it were amazing. I also got the Spicey Chicken & and Avocado Toastie which was really nice. I didn't expect it to be so big - very filling. Also, the Banana Bread lived up to expectations and is better toasted. I recommend all the dishes mentioned. Only slight negative would be that the avocado on the Smashed Avocado was a bit too watery, so it made the bread a little soggy. The service was good. They were quick to have us seated and ordering our food. The food didn't take long I will be back and I'd like to try their smoothies next time.

Sweet talking waitresses but street smart when taking your order. The menu is excellent and help is available for selecting ones choice. The pricing is reasonable and the quality of the food is very good. Worth a second, third, fourth visit. 🤗🤗

You're always sure to find a cafe in Balham but Brickwood is a real gem. The staff is incredibly friendly and always up for a nice chat, whether talking about their faves on the menu or about weekend plans. The vibes are amazing - super cute decor with dried flowers, fun music, great light, and truly just happy, positive energy from the staff. The inside has a variety of tables (booths, half booths, high tops, etc) and they have a cute patio section right on Hildreth which is perfect for some people and dog watching and a must during the sunny summer days! Their drinks are great (highly recommend an iced matcha or anything Abby whips up) and their food is never a miss! If you aren’t feeling a full meal they always have a delicious selection of fresh pastries as you enter the cafe too! Truly a must when in Balham for anything from brunch with friends, a cute date, or somewhere to do some work during the week. Not to mention if you ever want to see a cute dog, this is the place to be.

Been coming here regularly for the last couple of months now and the food, service and atmosphere of the place is always so spot on. Went for the dimmie night too, they were delicious! The evening was made even better with Beth - the fab host of the evening who made sure we had a blast of a time and always goes above and beyond to ensure we have a great time every single visit. Had the loveliest coffee and catch up with friends here over a leisurely brunch. Service was absolutely incredible and they were so accomodating and informed on my friends allergies, as she's gluten free. They had plenty of options for her - would really recommend. Friendly vibes all around and they really made me feel at home!

Came in with my partner on Saturday and was impressed by the entire experience! Seated fasted and coffee orders taken straight away! I've never tried an iced Milo before but I can't wait to have another! If you're looking for somewhere for a weekend brunch look no further! Was great to have so many Australian staff 👍

The Butcher was amazing! Poached eggs and upgraded to beast mode! Waitress was extremely helpful and talked us through all the allergens! Had to que but the manager brought us water while we waited, which, wasn’t long at all - the customer care factor was top notch

Odd place and clueless staff. Unclear system of whether you wait to be seated or sit yourself so spent 5 minutes standing at the door being ignored. They have crammed as many tables as physically possible in so hard to hear what the person opposite you is saying. Drinks were slow to arrive, and my chai came with a dirty glass although it did taste good. The menu states service charge is added on orders over £10 only, but ours added it on to our £8 bill. I questioned the waitress and she laughed and said she’d never read the menu that detailed… she also didn’t know what a Bundaberg was which considering this seemed to be an Australian themed place (maybe I’m wrong) was bizarre.

Such a nice coffee shop in Balham. I had a cappuccino, which was spot on. Great taste. I also had a gardener's brunch. I swapped pesto tomatoes for just tomatoes. Very fresh, very tasty. Good quality food. There was seating inside and on the street.

Having sampled a different Brickwood establishment in Streatham we decided to give their sister restaurant a go while in Balham. Arriving and seeing that there was a queue gave me mixed feelings. On the one hand I was put off due to my hunger, on the other it showed its popularity, which in my eyes must come for a reason? Fortunately the queue moved quickly and we were offered a seat inside or out. Our drinks and food order was taken promptly while we listened to their impeccable playlist. Coffees and smoothies arrived swiftly knocking our socks off. I had to ask the waitress where the coffee came from. Ordering the Butchers gave me expectations of a meat fest and I wasn’t let down. Quorn jalapeño fritters and an off the menu eggs completed the table’s order. Service was prompt and delivered with cheer. I’m ever so happy I didn’t let my queue impatience get the better off me as the food, drinks and brunch experience were delightful.

Wicked spot on the Balham market lane/mall. Good value for money, good portion sizes and its delicious. A must do for brunch in the area and the line is always shorter than Milk next door.

The place is great, can get too noisy when full though as a lot of quite young people. When full service can be quite slow even when asking for a croissant and a tea, but good food and good ambient in general and waitresses are lovely

Came here for Sunday brunch. Good food with generous portions and a creative menu. Nice seating area outside in the sun. We were left disappointed by our waitress at the end, who was perplexed when we asked for a receipt of our order before paying the bill. We only wanted to make sure the service was included, but she seemed insulted and promptly left after we paid without saying goodbye! The table next to us caught wind and said the exchange was bizarre - how else are people meant to check they’re paying the correct bill?

First time in the Balham branch of Brickwood (usual spot is Streatham, which has always proved a delight). Food was just as good (they’ve nailed cheese toasties), and so were the drinks, but the experience was let down by the service. Table seemingly forgotten by staff after we sat down, so we had to ask for menus; a wait for food lasted 20–30 minutes before a staff member came to table to check what our order was (“it doesn’t seem to have gone through” — they took the order). That the place still adds a service charge leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

I recently had brunch at this place, but found it to be quite cramped. Despite this, I did appreciate the quality of the food and the attentive service. However, when I shared my feedback about the tight seating arrangements, I received a passive-aggressive response suggesting that the layout was unlikely to change. I found myself sitting in a narrow hallway with just 10 cm of space between me and the person behind me. Over the course of 40 minutes, I was asked to move more than seven times to allow others to pass by.

Hands down the best coffee I’ve had in London, so great to see this classic cafe punching on years later. Do yourself a favour and get here as quick as you can

I was having a bad start to the morning but someone on hinge added my number and sent me £4.50 on Monzo for a coffee so I chose here and it was genuinely the best coffee I’ve had in London. Go here

The typical minimalist nondescript interior, practically the default style nowadays for “coffee shops”,doesn’t bring much in the way of innovation nor tone. Usual lite bite, brunch, pastry, cake configuration + dietary options. My coffee(good size) lacklustre and tepid. Unenthused. It happens occasionally and don’t mean this as a criticism but merely a fact. I didn’t eat here simply because I wasn’t hungry. Service was friendly and efficient.

Good breakfasts but the service at 8 in the morning quite slow for there being almost no one. I will go again to see if it was something specific

Can’t rate the food as we walked out after waiting 15 minutes for the uninterested waitress to walk over, ignore us, and then proceed to serve to couple seated behind us who arrived later. Poor lighting and drafty.

We visited at midday on Saturday and waited 20 minutes for a table, which is expected for brunch in Balham. Food was generally good served with good bread and coffee. However service was very slow with unenthusiastic staff. They hadn't taken our order 20 minutes after sitting down and coffees took a very long time to come. I would return but maybe on a weekday.

Stopped here for a coffee mid-morning while wandering through Tooting. We enjoyed the coffee at the cafe and the service was excellent. The food looked good too. An interesting menu and decor with an Australian touch. A great find.

Amazing Aussie cafe! Worked closely with the team to organise a shoot in the cafe and they were wonderful to work with. Amazing tasty food and fast service and were always on hand to help out and just generally loads of fun and a pleasure to spend the day with.

Out for lunch with my daughter I spent a good deal of time talking to the waiter about my food intolerance - not an allergy - which can cause me to be ill for days. The waiter checked on what I could eat and I ordered one of the possibilities. It arrived visibly covered in the very thing I can’t tolerate. The waiter removed the food and said he had assumed it would be ok. He then brought me a salad, dry lettuce Parmesan bacon shreds and no dressing. Unappetising in the extreme. As my daughters food was getting cold, and I didn’t want to ruin the occasion by sending it back again , so I just ate the dry salad. As we went to pay I was given no itemised bill until I asked for the receipt afterwards. I was shocked to see id been charged for the meal I’d been unable to eat instead of the dry salad. To add insult to injury I’d also been charged the full service charge. My daughter spoke to the waiter who offered to refund me the overcharge. We declined and left . Such a disappointing experience. They need to take food intolerance seriously.

I've been a happy customer for as long as you guys have been open, many years. Best brunch place in London, so it would make no sense to leave anything other than a 5 star review. I'm leaving the review to give some feedback which I hope is easy to action. On deliveroo, when ordering a butcher, there should be a mandatory field to choose scrambled or poached egg. I don't order delivery from you often, I come in to eat, but when I do and forget to specify, it spoils it to get poached, which I don't like. I get that you can say "remember to specify in the free text" but at any other restaurant you order from on deliveroo where there's a choice you have to make about your meal, there's a field to choose between the 2. SUBSEQUENT EDIT Fair play to you guys, what can I say. I left this review a month or 2 ago, it's been changed on deliveroo already. Your place is superb, but frankly I wasn't expecting that to be done, even by you guys. Plus when I came in recently the guy who served me took the friendliness and warmth of service you've already had to even higher levels. Would award 7 stars if I could, but I can't, so I'll just place another order instead 😀

Shocking service! Definitely avoid on busy days or if you want to get something soon. Was a busy Saturday, we sat outside and the order itself was taken fairly quickly. The staff were friendly and changed our table + gave us a blanket when it started raining. But then it took more than 40 mins with nothing but the juice and they served two tables that sat after us not even realising we haven't been served. At one point they even asked us if we have ordered. Understaffed and was all in shambles. The order came right at the time we decided to leave - no apologies for how long it took or anything. Were so hangry we even forgot to pay for the juice but ended up going somewhere else

Poor service. As soon as we got there we were asked to move to accommodate others that were waiting. Why?? We moved as requested. I then decided that they were not worth spending my money with. Went to megan's in balham instead. Much better service.

Food is delicious! Best brunch we've had in ages. Had the veggie burritto and corn jalapeño fritter breakfast. Both were 5 star. Service was good. The bathroom needs a good scrub though, especially the door, and the seats could be more comfy. Would recommend for the food.

Too long a queue a few months ago and better weather also means seating options of in or out. Nearly ordered the wrong breakfast, which was actually in a Burrito. One of our party went ahead and had it in any case and got a huge thumbs up. The meaty breakfast was substantial and vegan options looked really good too. Coffees and juices to accompany. Really good service despite non stop queues outside quickly occupying emptying tables.

The service was good and the chicken hash browns were lovely - only thing I’d suggest is that the Focaccia should be made fresh if it’s not for take away as it would make a big change in the flavour.

Lovely quality food. Liked the scrambled eggs. Quite pricey and cannot book on a weekend. Would have liked beans with their butchers breakfast. Hash browns were delicious.

Nice aussie Cafe in Balham. Very good coffee and the breakfast was decent also. We were a group of three and pretty cozy on a table more designed for two. We asked to change to a bigger one but we're told they had to save it for a group of four, fair enough. Small queue to get in on Sat morning (10-15 min wait) but they were running a tight ship and kept us updated.

Had a great experience here this afternoon! Came in with my mum and was greeted straight away by staff, really friendly. Atmosphere was really cosy and warm. Good vibes all around and not at all stressy despite it being a bit busy. I had a flat white along with a veggie burrito and it was delicious, enjoyed every bit of it. Coffee tasted great too! Best lunch I’ve had out in a while.
