Brickhouse in Southend-on-Sea

It was a game of 2 halves at the restaurant. It had one saving grace. The food was amazing, it was quite possibly the best burger and chips I've ever had, and I've had quite a few in my time. So for me to say that, it was genuinely really nice. It was a party of 3 and we all had different chips and burgers and none of them disappointed. Good portion sized and good amount of bits and sauces added to the chips. The service on the other hand. Was one of the worst I've EVER received. Keeping in mind that you order at your table by scanning a QR code and pay on your phone. So the only thing they do is bring your food over. It took over 50 minutes for 3 burgers and chips. I had 2 kids getting very irritated and by the end so was I. The restaurant was almost empty other than 4 other tables being occupied with couple ls, so no big groups. No cutlery brought over, no sauces I felt like we was a a problem for the waiter rather than being a customer. If it wasn't for the quality of the food this place would be getting 1 star, but I can't decide if 1 or 2 stars should be knocked off due to the shocking service.

My favorite place for a burger, my daughter loves it here. I like to take our friends and family here, not only to eat but a few drinks and a few games of pool, always a great atmosphere and the staff are lovely.

**edit** we got sent a very apologetic email and money so have been back and given it another try, am happy to say the food was cooked properly and hot and we really enjoyed it, so thank you to the owner for getting in touch with my friend otherwise wouldnt have gone back but we are glad we did as really enjoyed the food the second time, thank you.... Waited about an hour and a half for undercooked cold food, burger was pink inside, was so hungry I just made do and manage to eat half, my friend sent hers back and received another cold meal, very disappointed and im quite easy to please when it comes to food, first and last time I will be eating here.

First time here, our food took an hour to come, food was below average at best. Came luke warm and for £25 a head I wouldn’t recommend.

Considering how much we have on offer restaurant wise in the high street. Second time I've eaten here and as always rhe food was decent and served by the same guy as last time Ben i got his name this time. Was busy in there for a friday but it didn't take long for our food to come out. Just had a beer main and side and friends had a nice selection of stuff. Good atmosphere great service and good food couldn't fault it. Will come again as the burgers are always on point.

The food is nice and service is good, but they really push for you to use QR codes on table to order, which isn’t bad, but every order then has a service charge, even if just for a drink. When approached bar instead to order drinks, they really pushed for the QR code order instead. Wish they hadn’t been so pushy at that because actually really nice place

We love visiting for lunch my children like the relaxed atmosphere and all the staff are friendly and helpful

Son and his football team had a get together there. Loads to do for them, they enjoyed the food and the games in the upstairs area. Parents were there to stay too.

Had the pleasure of being served by Dom and Kieran's. Their bartending services? I couldn't be more impressed! They were professional, personable, and they crafted the most amazing cocktails and milkshakes! Their attention to detail and ability to keep the vibe fun and relaxed really made my unplanned time out. I highly recommend them if you want top-notch service and unforgettable drinks.

Amazing service . The gentleman on the door with a red hair / blonde beard was extremely polite . Welcome us to the table and explain us how everything worked as it was our first time visiting this restaurant . Food arrived hot and with an amazing presentation . There house seasoning on the chips was amazing . Had a garlicky taste . All the other staff members who served us were extremely polite throughout our visit . When we left they ensure to say goodbye . Overall we had a great experience ! Would definitely recommend! Fantastic price / service and place ! 5*****

When brickhouse first opened it was our go to local restaurant, it was by far the best one in southend. We would go all out in there too. But now i dont know whats gone on or who decided tamper with the current menu selection but we are really disappointed now and after yesterday’s visit we unfortunately will no longer be visiting. They’ve changed the dirty fries they used to be my ultimate favourite on the menu, now they’ve changed the patties in the burgers and the sauce on the wings. The meals now take for ever to come out too which os frustrating especially when theres barely anyone in the restaurant. Very disappointing brickhouse :(

Fantastic service and fantastic food as normal roast in the post is always brilliant and good value for money

We've been coming here since it first opened as brick house and it was always our go to for a date night or meal. We came for the first time in a while and were so disappointed. The prices on the online app and the menus on tables were different. Our food took ages to arrive and when it did my burger was burnt to a crisp and chips cold. The drinks were mixed really badly and the meat in the burgers tastes nothing like it used to. Almost all of the staff have changed and prices have gone up way more than is reflected in the food. Really sad to say we won't be back.

Very basic food, you get what you pay for. £14 for steak cut in slices on top of skinny fries, served in a cardboard dish. No garnish or veg.

Food was gross, smelling like fish and bacon was just fat. It was freezing cold slow service despite being empty and very underwhelming.

Such a great place! For not much more £ than the usual burger place with the famous yellow M! It's now a regular haunt of ours... the cocktails are yum!

Had a wonderful “Roast in the post” delivered. Every element was delicious and heated up brilliantly. Looking forward to the leftovers.

Was greeted pleasantly on arrival, gentleman was very polite and accommodating, food was very tasty, daughter had chicken bites with a generous bowl of dipping sarrachi sauce, I had grilled chicken wrap.

Food was amazing. Everything was great, I celebrated my birthday. Just was a cold inside because no heating on.

Food was good. Large portion sizes and reasonable prices. Drinks were also nice cocktails worked out reasonable on the 2 for £12 offer. However the wait for drinks was long as they seemed understaffed. Staff were nice but there didn’t seem to be many of them. Atmosphere was cold. Literally freezing cold. In the middle of January you’d expect heating to be on and it to be warmer inside than out. We did ask about this to be told it was as high as it went and then when we questioned again after feeling the radiator for it to not be on we were told the heating was broken. Honestly I’m not exaggerating when I say I was shivering, as was my son who sat with his coat on for the evening. By the end of the evening I couldn’t feel my feet. We were also sat by the door which every time it opened made it so much worse. Unsure why when we were noticeably cold we were moved to the upstairs away from the doors where there were abundant seats available. Honestly wouldn’t return as for as nice as the food was you expect to be comfortable during your dinner and not fighting for your life trying to keep warm.

Food was good but we waited nearly an hour for it. We were a large party so granted we know it'll take a while but the first two meals came out and then another two showed up about 15 mins after. There was 14 of us so none of us actually ate together in the end. The people serving weren't great we had to chase up drinks and it's like they were on a go slow. It wasn't majorly busy in there, it got busier after we ordered and we saw tables getting their food before any of ours. Food was good but the service was really poor.

Update on last visit. What a change in a restaurant. The starters were Luke warm, and no chicken wings that was the main reason we went. The main courses were well over an hour, and when we asked how much longer, the reply was" have you ordered". The food then came within 5 minutes, It was stodgy and grim, both of us left the majority of it. My wife won't go back. I probably agree, as service was pretty poor, no one cleared the table of anything other than glasses, or asked I'd it was OK. When you read how good the first visit was, I am really surprised. It only takes 1 bad experience to put customers off! Ordering is via app, but if you don't do apps you can go to the bar. It wasn't very busy at 7 on a Saturday night. I ordered 3 drinks on the app and they were on the table very shortly after. I ordered the chicken wings which were crispy in a honey djrizzle that were above and beyond for both of us, we will be going back just on these alone. I then made a mistake on the drinks order, which the waitress resolved without any hassle or any extra charge, thanks. I then made an additional mistake by ordering an extra patty in my burger, which I accepted due to being greedy. The burgers for us were very nice and again I would go back and have again. The chips were what I would expect of a decent eatery, so thumbs up from us. My partner was full up but managed to pretty much demolish the fudge cake, whilst I tried the Ferrero desert, it had no chocolates on it, but was really nice and reminded me of the chocolates in the taste. Lovely pornstar martini. There were no sauces or salt on the table, but as soon as I stood up the waitress ran over to see if she could assist. The last order we had was the deserts and a round of drinks, the drinks came after the desert and I had to get up to get them. I really wanted them at the same time, this was really the only let down we had. Possibly add some safe way of tipping. We will be going back. Been back twice now, each time it was great!

Love Roast in the Post food is amazing, huge portions and so easy to just pop back in the oven. Much needed after a long day at work, looking forward to to my Christmas Day Dinner.

Gluten and garlic free diner. Separate non-gluten menu with plenty of choices for starters, mains; limited desserts (ice creams or chocolate brownie (yawn)). Staff very helpful and knowledgeable. Garlic mushrooms removed from my choice and replaced with extra fries, garlic mayo swapped for plain mayo. Everything hot, freshly cooked to order and tasty (burger with blue cheese). Because everything is freshly cooked to order and because the restaurant is popular, expect to wait for your order (30 mins for the ice cream to arrive, but so worth it!). Portions were more than adequate! Restaurant was very clean, as were the toilets. With my dietary needs, I felt very safe. I will definitely return. Separate gluten-free prep station in the kitchen and separate fryer.

My own experience was we had our Christmas lunch there but all the food was served for around 20 of us at various times meaning we couldn’t all eat together. My veggie burger was gross it was not edible, however I can see it would be to some.

Absolutely love this place been several times, staff are lovely, love their super cheesy fries and brickhouse veggie wraps, and their milkshakes are brill love the five fingers rum milkshake 😊❤️

For a burger & and chips, it's very expensive. Burger has too much in it to taste anything individually. Chips were soggy and overpowered by the gravy. For the dirty fries for the range of topping, I think it is excessive. A service charge is added when ordering the meal, I think, as it is unfair as there is no way to not tip, and the service the staff provides is bringing drinks and food. As for the atmosphere, there was any.

Amazing food and drinks every time we come!! Ben the bar manager and all the bar staff, are always so warm and friendly! we come in each week just for the friendly custom and tasty reasonable priced drinks!! A pleasure every time highly recommend!

Came for the 'Roast In The Post' Sunday special. Wow! Very nice indeed! 3 meats, chicken gammon and 16hr beef brisket, all the veg, lovely yorkies and roasties. Had the pigs in blankets as a side, very nice too. Well done to the chef (Kieran I understand) and all the staff, bar, runners, kitchen etc. and a special thank you to our server Jamie and to Ozzy, well done lads.

Came here last night 9.11 just for a couple of drinks this time, eaten here plenty of times and always great- absolutely heaving but still such amazing service from all the staff !!!!!! Ben, Jamie. Aimee, Kieron all fab!!!

Had a great time at The Brickhouse after the fireworks on Saturday . Great food quick and efficient service and a great atmosphere.

It was luke warm food ,kept bringing drinks before food.waited 1.5hr for a basic meal.

Food was cold took 1an a half hours raw burger some took cold food back treated with no respect booked for 25

We waited 50 minutes for our food, when we kindly asked the waiter just for an eta he was extremely rude and told us he’d been working for 4 hours. The food turned up and the JD wings tasted like cigarettes, the bacon in the wrap was just pure fat. The lemonade tasted like pure lemon juice. Food was also cold when it turned up but no point complaining as they don’t care and we’d already waited so long. The ‘brick house seasoning’ on the chips is just extremely large shards of salt - I thought it was parmesan when it turned up. Can’t believe we paid £30 each to not eat anything.

We just had a call, cancelling our staff Christmas party after numerous phone calls to discuss the event and having already paid deposits to secure the date. Clearly a better offer has come along that trumped ours! Maybe just be transparent from the start in future when you get enquiries, rather than taking and dropping bookings as-&-when it suits you. It's just bad form!

So disappointed to say that this was not a good experience, having never been to brick house before but hearing good things I can say that it didn’t live up to the expectations. Food took 50 minutes and was very poor for the price that we paid was served on paper so went soggy and ended up basically eating the paper too. Spent £60 on food I would say was worth about £30 me and my partner agreed we should have gone to Nando’s across the road. Very disappointed and upset to say the least. I would say listen and read the reviews as I can see I’m not the only one that’s had this experience.

The beef in the burger is very juicy and flavourful. I got the beef chilli loaded fries which was lovely. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Satisfied our meat cravings. Will visit again.

I took my daughter to the Brickhouse in Southend. Absolutely enjoyed every minute. The food was amazing!! My daughter stated that she really enjoyed how juicy the burgers were and it will keep her full for ages Thank you all, well done 👏

One off our favorite places to eat the food is great and very feeling, the place looks very trendy and clean and the cocktails are wonderful.

Went here a little while ago with partner and some friends for pre drinks and food. I had a burger as did most of us and it was quite nice. Little on the pricier side but still nice food would go again if the opportunity arises.

Good place to eat, went in the evening for dinner, vast menu and tasty food. Although waited 45 + minutes for food and around 20 minutes just for a cola and a lemonade. Shocking really ! It’s also cheeky and disappointing the mandatory service charge every time you order food or drinks, as the waiters aren’t taking your order for you, they are just bringing it over 45 minutes after ordering ??? I have got to say to Ashley - waiter that works there, deserves a raise. He’s rushed off of his feet and you can see the amount of effort he puts in to get the orders out, running up and downstairs. Just phenomenal. 10/10 just for Ashley

Took an hour wait for a burger with some chicken wings. Then when the burger came it didn't even have the blue cheese in it so had to send it back. It wasn't even busy so don't understand why the food took so long and was wrong

We frequently go to brickhouse. Good food and good vibes. Love the lounge, great to chill out but still have fun with shuffle board or the pool tables.

The food was good. I really enjoyed the loaded chips. Very yummy. I also had the chicken strips, it wasn't as great. Probably my choice of sauce wasn't the best. Use the online menu. It's easier to understand and there are pictures.

Food wonderful staff polite, place clean but place could have better lighting

This company will constantly spam your inbox with offers trying to tempt you in. When you arrive their customer service quickly disappears, the food is served cold, the beer is flat, the food is average, chips are over priced. £3 extra for pulled pork on chips. Turns out to be just a small dollop from a table spoon. If they paid as much attention to their food and service as their spam emails this place would be great

Headed here for a little date night meal. Staff were absolutely lovely, can't fault them. Vegan options (THANK YOU!!) were great and generally all food was fab. Nice interior & love the light shades... If you ever get rid of them please sent them my way (The ones around the bar haha)

Have ordered from here for years and is always very tasty food, we occasionally eat in which is equally.very enjoyable and great, Cat is the best person for any recommendations, you will not be disappointed, Ben also has a wealth of cocktail knowledge and always happy to help, would highly recommend

The food took ages to arrive. We were a big ish party but if you can’t cope don’t take the booking. When it did arrive at best it was warm. Didn’t want to send it back as it took a millennium to arrive. It was tasteless, in fact road kill would have been more appetising. I would not recommend this restaurant even if there was nowhere else to eat. Spend your hard earned elsewhere

Had a nice bit of food was going to go for a burger when the manager suggested the ribs now I don't normally eat ribs but these are gorgeous tender and fell of the bone nicely... the loaded fries and mac and cheese was gorgeous deffently be back... Ben the manager was friendly and welcoming and deffently knows he does...

Really lovely burger place. Staff were very friendly and were great with allergy advice. Great for kids as well

First of all, they had a qr code menu and order form but no wifi. You could order at the bar but why have the qr code if there’s no wifi?? Also, we order off two separate phones but they were both linked to the same table but one of our meals came out significantly sooner than the other. I got the LA chili burger which was okay. Not much flavor to it honestly. The side order of fries were probably the best thing. What really brings this down to two stars is that my friend got the steak over fries and it seemed as though they poured a whole stick of melted butter on top. The steak was dry and chewy but that wasn’t the worst part. It was on a bed of fries that were literally swimming in butter. Practically inedible. The drinks were fine. We both got a willy wonka. Would not come back here.

Took the Cyber Trust team out for a team get together. Burgers were great. Great range and nice cocktails. Great having the option of pool upstairs. We will be using again.

Been here a few times and the food is always good. They were busy this time but managed to squeeze in 6 of us kindly for 90 mins. The only downer was our meals were staggered quite badly. Some of us had finished our meals before others even received theirs. Mine took 50 mins but it was very nice when it arrived. It's the only downer of app ordering. Miami BBQ wrap and chicken wings all the way. Will be heading there again at some point if they stay open. Everyone had a good time and enjoyed the food. The topped fries are excellent 👌

I would recommend this to anyone and their families , I’ve always seen it but never came in but decided to pop in today and the amount of food you get for the price is amazing , I would recommend the brickhouse box , three little burger sliders with three choices of sides only for £14 , great music , great service from kat thank you for a great time x

Came for my birthday, spent a lot of money. Unnecessarily unhelpful staff. Also cold food. But it's the service. There are people here who don't care if this business succeeds. Whoever owns this place needs to fix that.
