Visiting the area and hopped in for pint with the dog (bonus it’s dog friendly!). Great selection of cask and keg beers, Barman (grey hair, ponytail) was lovely. Locals were friendly and even gave tips for places to visit. Really relaxing, friendly vibe.

First visit to the Brecon Tap coincided with the Brecon Beacons Food Festival, so it was a busy Saturday in the town. Happy to find a table at the Tap and was very impressed with the range of ales available. We had a few thirst quenching glasses of Grey Trees! Lunch wise, pies seemed to be the order of the day despite a few tempting burgers being carried past the table. We all opted for steak pies with chips and peas and delightful they were too. Lovely flaky pastry and plenty of filling. Think I've just found my new favourite lunch place in Brecon town centre.

Hungry for a substantial lunch in this charming market town, we stumbled into Brecon Tap after a couple other Google recommendations weren’t accurate about hours (I’m looking at you, Forge and Markets Tavern!). Brecon Tap specializes in savory pies, so that’s what we got. Steak and ale was great, chicken, leek and blue cheese a little dry, but really good ingredients in both. Mustard mash was a little odd, could have used less mustard to my taste, but again, fresh, quality food. Service was friendly and efficient, prices were not cheap but seemed fair for the amount and quality. Local craft and real ales, congenial crowd, chatty but not overwhelming.

It's ok but far from one of my favourites. Quite a small pub with barely any room to swing a cat when you go in. A good enough selection of ales but a bit pricey for Brecon (from £4.30 to £6 a pint). While it's nice to see a variety, it's normally IPA/standard bitters a lacklustre on the stouts. Every time I've been the only stout they had on was Wye valleys attempt at a Guinness rival (nightjar, it's Wye valley stout but nitro chilled). Very hard to ever get a seat in there because of the amount of people going in for food. Normally any spare tables will be reserved with a booking time on them, so as long as you leave the table before the timeslot, you can get a seat for a bit. On the last visit we found a table that had no reserved sign on it. Yet within 10 minutes of sitting there we were told it had been reserved and we had to move. They said the sofa at the top was free to sit at. So we got up and other people were sat at the sofas. In the end we just had to prop ourselves at the bar to finish our drinks and leave. A bit frustrating as had there been no available tables on entering, we'd have gone elsewhere instead of buying drinks. It was a little bit rude being told to leave that table when it didn't have any reserved sign on it. A mistake by staff. Not sure if I'll be back here. At that price to struggle to ever get a seat it's just worth going elsewhere.

Our second visit here, the first time (a year or two ago) was okay but a bit expensive, prices appear to have increased more. Would expect it to be at least 25% less for the establishment/offerings. Ordered two soft drinks that were poured from a 2 litre retail bottle in front of me, and charged more for each glass than the bottle alone costs. Bottle wasn't chilled and ice quickly melted resulting in warm drinks. Glasses were filthy. Sorry, can't be less harsh about that, no other way to describe them. Food, quality was ok, portions quite inadequate for cafe cost, but for the price charged it was a kick in the teeth. Shall not go again, my money is worth more to me than what I received.

Though I’ve been to the Brecon Beacons numerous times, it was my first visit to Brecon town - and probably my last. The Brecon Tap has been the highlight of a visit an otherwise dying town. I genuinely hope Brecon can be revived. Staff were friendly and welcoming both times we visited. The drink selection was varied and staff were happy to offer advice and samples. The food - we went for the sharing plates - was of a good standard and well presented. Very dog friendly too. Something the restaurants of Brecon could learn from. Probably the best thing in Brecon.

I ate here by myself and had the burger, brownie for dessert and a low alcohol beer. As other reviewers have said, the burger is REALLY small for a restaurant burger. For reference, it is slightly bigger than a 1/4lb from McDonald's. On the plus side, it is a very tasty burger. If you are looking for something filling though, try the pies instead - I know I should have. As I was riding my motorcycle, I went for a low-alcohol drink, but there is a lot of variety at the bar and it changes frequently, which is nice. The brownie was lovely but as is typical of most restaurants, it was £1 more than it should have been. Good service, staff were trying there best despite there not being enough of them. No parking, but there is a nearby pay + display at the theatre and free spaces on the surrounding streets (1hr max stay until 6pm). Motorcycles can easily fit into these spaces or park on the kerb in front of the church.

Faultless in every way. I recently visited with my parents and my dog and we absolutely loved it. We were made to feel very welcome, the real ales on tap are extremely well kept (I'm a very fussy real ale person) and a really good selection of other drinks. The food was absolutely divine and it was the best steak and ale pie I've ever had (and I used to have them quite regularly at the famous Borough Market in London when I used to work there). Mum ordered something not on the menu and they managed to rustle something up incredibly tasty with no issues. And the manners of the staff to everyone was exemplary. An absolute treasure of a place.

Our AirBnB host recommended the Brecon Tap & after our first visit we could understand why. We went on Friday (myself & my two daughters) & we were all impressed by the quality of the food & the service. Their pies are outstanding & we were so impressed we returned the following evening. Unfortunately I hadn’t booked (as I’d been advised to do) & it was very busy but a member of staff managed to find us a table for 3 within a few minutes. We all ate something different but again all the food was outstanding. Apart from the food & the service there’s a very relaxed & friendly vibe to the Tap that makes it an enjoyable place to go. Would highly recommend if staying or visiting the Brecon area.

It's a great location, but our food was cold when served and it looked and tasted like it was something that had been there from the beginning of the week and just warmed up. It's also difficult to enjoy because they allow dogs inside and for people with allergies, this is a real problem. I wish people were more aware of this situation that occurs when you have an allergy to pets --basically you can't breathe. I'm not sure why all these establishments have to be open to pets?

A great little pub. Proper local feel and a proper, traditional pub. Felt a bit sorry for the lady behind the bar, she seemed rushed off her feet, but remained friendly despite this (I wouldn't have). We had a quick stop for a pint and a bap.
