A great find. I was waiting for a connection from Charing Cross and went in search of a breakfast. It’s only about 300 yards from the station - lovely full breakfast, quick and excellent value for central London. Would definitely return.

Horrendous service: never felt so not welcomed… the staff was totally disengaged. As I had to go out for a brief time, my friend was asked to leave the table as he did finished his orange juice… unbelievably rude! We were going to have a full English, but, after such treatment we agreed that this cafe is unfriendly and judgmental. Thus, I confronted the waitress about her attitude and informed her about our intention to never, ever I will return back. Honest advice: avoid it at all cost!

A great find thanks to previous reviews. Not a massive space available so we were very to grab four seats with our luggage. Really friendly service. Great value for money.

Don’t expect food with all the frills here but it’s good well cooked hot food served very quickly. Limited menu but prices are cheap for central London (it’s two mins walk from Trafalger Square).

We came here for a quick lunch after being warned that anything without a buffet was going to be slow. This place wasn't slow at all. I ordered and paid at the counter and we took the last table outside. The food was delivered very promptly. Basic fare, not fancy or priced that way. We had a sausage roll and a beef pie. Both came with fries and beans. More than we needed for a quick lunch.

I discovered this really nice cafe while exploring the area and what a find. Just simple, reasonably priced food, served in a friendly environment.

Breadline Sandwich Bar I arrived early in the morning just after opening, 4 of the tables were already taken. It's a fairly small café, easy to miss when walking by, with only 8 tables inside. I ordered English breakfast with chips and tea £10.50 including - sausage, bacon, egg, beans and toast. Good Full English, practical, simple, reasonably priced, quick service & convenient location when you're near Trafalgar Sq. Mission statement: - try out a number of English Breakfasts from a number of local(Embankment tube station) cafes rather than settle for my lodgings £32 rubber egg, shriveled sausage, dried out beans, cold cardboard toast etc.. for an over-priced, over-cooked, small-portions offering. Having been a waiter in my former life in hotels in Devon I knew what to expect from hotels and knew the only way to get a good, freshly cooked breakfast is find café.

If you want to avoid tourist 'rip off' prices this is a little gem in a big tourist attraction. Ideal for a coffee/tea, sandwich or even a meal!

Great place to eat. Came here 3 times during my 4 day stay. Food was great and big value for your money.❤️

I ordered the egg and cheese on a roll with chips on the side and was very disappointed. The roll itself didn’t taste good and was very dry. The chips were dry as well. The meal as a whole was just bad. The seating is almost impossible to get in and out of as it is close booths with metal bars blocking you in. Overall would not recommend.

With views of the National Galley and adjacent to St. Martin in the Field (just off Trafalgar Square) there is this hidden gem. There was a steady stream of happy customers all of whom were greeted warmly by the staff and served promptly. Great variety of breakfast options, plus other light bites and hearty meals. Seating is limited circa 10 two and four seater tables (though there are outside tables), but the area was cleared and cleaned regularly. I will definitely be going back to this traditional small independent cafe the next time I stay over in London, for a great feed and friendly service.

Just the business for quality, freshly cooked breakfast at brilliant value for money prices. Not the biggest establishment, but quick service and full English with tea or coffee for £10 is great value

Rare to find what is essentially an independent cafe, not a sandwich bar, in this part of central London. Very clean and offered the usual range of fry-ups. While I was there, it seemed that a number of regulars came in for takeaways, so it clearly has a decent reputation. Nothing special, but very clean, quick and decent value in the heart of town.

Good honest “Full English”. Simple, tasty and reasonably priced, with nice friendly service. An obvious pride in the cleanliness throughout. Recommended!

The service was terrible! We order only one pizza margarita and polenta chips which was disgusting (without no flavor) we waited 45 minutes and everybody already got their food… when we told this to the manager he did nothing and the waitress gave us the...

Typical English diner. Not fancy. But friendly and good quality basic cafe food at fair prices. If you want a bacon sandwich this is the place to go. They do slightly more elaborate food like baked potatoes. The coffee is outstanding too.

The food and service was very good. We had breakfast here almost daily in our trip. You can taste the freshness in their ingredients. And what makes the experience even better, the location in the heart of Trafalgar Square. Highly recommended

Entré a tomar una taza de café y la mujer que me sirvió fue antipática hasta el punto de ser grosera. Después de sentarme con una taza de café no muy bueno pero caro, noté que el servidor les daba la bienvenida a los hombres que llegaron después de mí. Al mirar alrededor del café noté que todos los clientes eran hombres. ¡Solo puedo suponer que los clientes anteriores que eran mujeres habían recibido el mismo trato que yo!

Went in this cafe today, and the attitude from the staff was nothing short of disgusting.I said to my wife if visitors to London, England experience this kind of attitudes they will think we are all the same. Great little find, a stones throw from Trafalgar Square. Went for the veggie breakfast, which was cooked fresh to order. Really good value and a decent sized portion, which left me full and not bloated, like you can get in other places. Will definitely return again.

Stopped in here for a drink after walking past The Cafe in the Crypt. There would have been more life in a genuine crypt than in this tiny little place. Staff member was abrupt and rude, and it would have looked more at home as the cafe where the losing team go on The Apprentice. It felt grey. It sucked the life out of just being there.

We found this cafe near Trafalger Square when we were looking for somewhere to eat breakfast. What a find! My husband had the English breakfast and I had an omelette. They were delicious. Definitely a local ambiance.

This cafe is about 100m from Charing Cross station and does various hot dishes including breakfasts and jacket potatoes as well as sandwiches and curry dishes. We had pastries and coffee which were very good.

The chairs and tables were like those in a school canteen and there was no toilet available for customers. The staff were not overly inviting and attentive. The price of the breakfast is cheap and so you have to be forgiving to some negatives. The food was cooked nicely and came in good time. I’d likely try somewhere else before returning to this establishment.

I've been aware of this place for over 30 years but never been until now. I was just looking for a place close to the office where I could sit in and get some simple food. It doesn't look much from the outside. Inside it's a bit of a throwback to the 70's but it looks clean enough. Service is what you might expect. Little in the way of politeness or interest in the customers but efficient enough in their way. I went for lasagne and chips with a cup of tea. Relatively inexpensive. The lasagne wasn't the best I've had but not the worst either. I hadn't expected the height of Italian cuisine but it tasted more like something which had been frozen. Plus I had to wait 5 minutes for it to start to cool as it felt like it had been blasted to 100 degrees in the microwave. Overall, OK for a "greasy spoon" but there are better places.

Food cooked to order, very friendly and helpful staff and competitively priced, large selection of food available, well worth a visit you will not be disappointed.

Este lugar es muy diferente de otros restaurantes y cafés de la zona. No es lujoso y tampoco es una cadena. Es básico, sencillo pero auténtico. Sirve desayunos y sándwiches ingleses clásicos todo el día. La comida es buena. Realmente lo recomiendo si estás en la zona y necesitas un descanso de los lugares llenos de turistas.

Absolutnie przez przypadek, w strugach deszczu, poszukując miejsca do schronienia trafiliśmy do tego miejsca. Ja uwielbiam taki odlschool. Miejsce jakby przeniesione z przeszłości w którym zatrzymał się czas. ALe serwują angielskie śniadania dokładnie w takiej formie o jakiej marzy każdy turysta. Wielki talerz ze smacznym bekonem, jajkami, tostami i fasolką (fasolka jakby z puszki, ale chyba taką tutaj jedzą). Obsługa super. Sprawna, szybka i miła. A ceny niskie jak na centrum Londynu i można się dobrze najeść.

Excelente ubicación justo al lado de The Strand, frente a la estación de Charing Cross. Gran pequeña cafetería como debe ser una cafetería. Buena selección de comida especialmente el desayuno. Está en el camino del trabajo para mí, por lo que es perfecto para sentarme y relajarse con el papel antes de un día en la oficina. . . Siempre tengo el inglés completo con un té adecuado que es 6. 50 en total, no te puedes equivocar. . . . Buena calidad y siempre caliente. One of them places you visit in a pickle. Its decent enough but aimed towards the tourists. Decent cuppa tea can be found.

In the middle of one of London's busiest areas, lies the Breadline cafe. I have probably walked past it before and not noticed it set against the abundance of higher market eateries in the area. But please take the time to go and sit in this retro cafe and just have some great grub at great prices too. Lovely staff, who were so helpful to me and my partner with our 6 month old baby. He loved it too!!

Affamate dopo la sveglia presto per andare a Londra e sotto una tipica pioggia torrenziale di marzo, ci siamo fermate in questo posticino che ci ha ispirato perché pubblicizzava la tipical english breakfast sulla lavagna! Ed era proprio così!!Uova, bacon, salsiccia, fagioli, patatine, toast caldi con burro salato, caffè o the bollenti, una vera delizia!! Prese dalla gola abbiamo ordinato anche un fish and chips in tre, sempre con fagioli ed altri toast caldi, tutto fantastico! Il posto è molto semplice, molto basico ma è il suo bello. Preparavano anche altre cose, tutte invitanti e fatte al momento. Il personale molto cortese. Ci tornerò sicuramente e lo consiglio vivamente, è in pieno centro a due passi due da Trafalgar Square!

We popped in for a quick bite before getting our train home. Decent selection and friendly service.They were very kind to a homeless bloke who came in. They seemed to know him so maybe it's a regular thing. Glad to support a small independent business.

It's good to see an independent café offering cheap food in a tourist area. You can have a breakfast with drink and toast for £6. The quality is not great, but the service is friendly and it's great value.

We found this little place just by trafalgar square by chance when looking for somewhere that wasn't your usual big over priced chain and we were not disappointed. Fresh cooked breakfast with tea or coffee for only 6 pound.

Popped in for a lunchtime sandwich. Was stunned to see the server use her hands to pick it up to be heated, then take the money (with her hands), then rub her face (with her hands), before removing the sandwich from the toaster - with those same hands. This is 2017 - surely food is not to be touched with hands, especially whilst also handling money?! Disgusting!

Don't say you can't get a good meal in London without paying over the odds. Sausage, egg and chips and a chicken curry for less than fifteen quid!!! Sit in a window seat and watch the world go by.

Personal dispuesto a hacer lo que sea que quería. El único inconveniente es que tendrás que usar los servicios en la calle. Martins - no hay nadie aquí que puede utilizar.

I have reviewed Breadline in the past; when I was spending most weekends in London it was the first port of call for my daughter and myself if eating in the Strand area. Visits to London are not now so frequent but we called in Saturday evening before going to the theatre and had a warm welcome. I had omelette, chips and beans and it only just fitted on the plate, delicious too. There is a good variety of food and prices are very reasonable. I do miss not being able to eat there on a regular basis.

Pretty poor. Miserable staff, undercooked food, overpriced and no toilet. Should have guessed when it was so quiet on such a busy day with the parade and festivities all around.

I use this greasy spoon for lunch when I am in London for a spot of street photography. I usually go for the egg and bacon sandwich and a mug of tea. For around £3. 50 the last time I was there in 2016, you can't go wrong. It is actually about 200 yards along Duncannon Street which is about 50 yards east if you are facing the National Gallery. I fully recommend it and have done so in my street photography book soon to be published.

A cold and windy day. I dropped in for no good reason for a late breakfast. Service was a bit impersonal and grumpy but I like that in a sit-down non-chain cafe. Speedy delivery, exactly as stated on the menu. Very well priced. It worked for me.

This place reminds me of the good old cafes that you could find in London before the coffee houses took over. A good solid English Breakfast at whatever time of day. And miles better value than in the nearby galleries and tourist traps

Starbucks was full so popped in here for drinks. Located next to Trafalgar Square. Plastic seating but drinks were good value and staff were friendly. Menu looked good value. Will definitely come back now I know it's there.

Abbiamo scoperto per purissimo caso questo piccolo locale (purtroppo non dotato di bagno.. La mia ragazza é andata nell'adiacente McDonald's)Cibo cotto e preparato al momento. Prezzi irrisori (full English breakfast 6 sterline... Acqua e caffè inclusi!!!). Dove trovare prezzi così. Qualità buona. Digestione veloce. Riguardo le carte di credito non vi sono adesivi esterni quindi immagino che per questi piccoli importi e vista la zona centrale non Le accettano. Personale in effetti insipido ma cosa mi interessa. In fondo in qualsiasi altro locale avremmo speso almeno il triplo. E mangiato molto peggio.

Ate here again yesterday during a day at the national gallery. The food was again cheap and tasty and the staff friendly. The cafe as always was spotlessly clean. Only criticism is that portions could be slightly bigger. Very good though and I will be back.

Chiediamo alla ragazza in cassa di poter pagare con la carta e comincia a sbuffare e fare facce irritate, si gira verso l'altra cameriera e cominciano a ridere di noi. Io, che comprendo l'Inglese, comincio ad innervosirmi e si instaura una certa 'tensione' causata dagli sguardi minacciosi delle cameriere. Davvero pessime, scortesi, prendevano in giro noi Italiani e due signori Francesi (quindi a quanto pare tutti i turisti). Ci sediamo affianco alla vetrina e ci fanno alzare perchè 'dobbiamo attaccare dei fogli sulla vetrina', invece si siede la cameriera a mangiare! Cibo insipido, insapore.. Per fortuna esistono le salse! Questo è quanto!!

What gem found this a couple of months ago tight seating but staff really friendly and considering were it is fantastic value for money pie, chips and beans a ,good plateful,with a cappucino for £7.60 considering its 200yds from trafalgar square AMAZING.

We had fish n' chips and kidney pie, both sided with beans and fries. They tasted good, the staff was nice and the bill was just a little more than ten pounds.

This is a fab little cafe which is a hidden gem, great if you know its there. Opposite Charing Cross front entrance, cross at the crossing going towards Leicester Square and then turn left after Pizza Express on the corner. Good cafe grub such as fry ups and chips etc Well cooked, filling food at a very honest price for central London. They do sandwiches and cakes too.Been coming here for years and returned over the weekend. Fast efficient food delivery and lovely pleasant staff and good prices - its brill - try it!

Lovely traditional cafe just off Trafalgar Square. Large selection of basic breakfasts,sandwiches, cakes and hot drinks. Quick and pleasant service and very economical. The downside is no public toilet, however as the National Gallery is just across the way with good public facilities I don't see it as a problem.

Great for tourists staying in the Trafalgar Square. Quick cheap breakfast and opens early. Went with children. Ask for the bacon and egg sandwiches toasted as doesn't come toasted.

A little haven right near Trafalgar Square. Typical English breakfasts for a reasonable price but also friendly staff who took care to serve their customers. Had the full breakfast which included tea & the sausages & eggs. Both were simple but good. Went to this sandwich bar ( no toilet) to experience an independent place with no pretentions. close to Trafalgar Square on May 1st after the march and rally there .Asked for a cappuccino from the man behind the bar who had just served a customer with a coffee from Bravilor 3pt. glass decanter and jug of froth.At my request the woman behind the counter moved to the coffee machine beside her.The man instantly motioned to her to stop and served me the same coffee and froth as the customer before me had.I was charged £2.20 for something in a cup with no taste,no flavour,just a hot brown liquid covered in froth and left it after three sips.

Just got back from breakfast at Breadline with my flatmate. You can get a full English breakfast for £6 which comes with a tea or coffee. I asked for no beans but the chef added the beans anyway, apologising, but I just ate around them. I suggest adding another egg to the dish as one egg is not a lot for a breakfast but that's my own opinion. Server lady was friendly and fast. We ordered takeaway sandwiches for our other halves back at our flat and when the server told the order to the chef he quietly made a fuss about it, we noticed this because of his hand gestures and eye rolling. If you can't handle the stress of cooking, hire a new chef who actually has patience and can follow orders when they're put through.

Came into this cafe as I needed to eat quickly and there were queues at other places nearby. The interior is a little basic but don't let that put you off. the food is cheap and tasty and the staff are friendly. Conveniently located near to Trafalgar Square, will eat here again i am sure.

This is what outwardly is known as a 'greasy spoon' or transport cafe style place and it is perfect. Do Not change a thing. Simple fair but hits the mark and at a price which is fair. In a location where cafes are pretentious and expensive this is a little gem. Come here if you want ham egg and chips and no fancy side salad.

I visit here regularly. The food is not fancy though is tasty. The service is friendly and efficient. It's always very peaceful on a weekday evening, despite being in such a busy area. A great place for people looking for some hearty food that's not overpriced and that can be eaten in the peace and quiet.

We have been to the Breadline three times and it wins on every point - it is in a prime location between Charing Cross station and Trafalgar Square, a window seat gives you a nice outlook, you get service with a smile, the coffee is consistently good, the carrot cake and lemon cake are excellent, the coffee and walnut cake is fresh but not quite so good, and the prices are considerably better than anything else in the vicinity. My only suggestion for improvement would be for tea to be served in a cup (teapot even better) and the coffee to be served in a mug instead of tea in a mug and coffee in a cup - seems the wrong way around to me.

Servizio veloce, colazione saporita con caffè macchiato, salsiccia, bacon, uovo, pane tostato (servono anche i fagioli, ma non li ho presi). Più ci penso più mi viene voglia di mangiarne ancora!!! prezzo economico per Londra, Solo 6.00 £!!! Fanno anche fish and chips allo stesso prezzo... in un pub si arriva a pagare anche 14.00 £!!!

Très déçus. On y allait en confiance au vu des commentaires précédents. Arrivés devant on a failli faire demi-tour. On aurait mieux fait !!Le café est mauvais, les saucisses infectes, les beans de mauvaise qualité. Bref à éviter !!En plus pas de toilettes dans l'établissement

Vera colazione inglese in tutto e per tutto. Il loro caffè per noi italiani è un trauma ma rispetta i loro canoni in pieno. Il cibo è squisito. Per la colazione ci ritorno per forza.Locale Carino in stile americano e personale gentilissimo. Anche il prezzo di 6£ è giusto secondo me.
