My Ukrainian wife found this restaurant with the intention of dining in a restaurant with a cuisine similar to her home type. We visit early evening and chose our dishes sampling each others as we always do and all I can say is the food was amazing. This is Polish home cooking like I have not tasted for a long time. Accompanied by great Polish beer and great music made this a wonderful dining experience. A must try ! We will definitely be returning soon

Went here with family and friends after the rugby match. We lived in Poland for some time so knew we liked Polish food so we booked a table prior. Run by the owner and his wife. It gets busy. We had a fantastic time. The food was delicious. We will definitely return. Highly recommend,

Me and my boyfriend were visiting Cardiff, he’s Polish and wanted me ti try some polish quinine, and it was stunning, the food was fresh and tasty and the service was lovely.

Haven’t reviewed in my home city for ages . Having a reason to visit we left delighted . Huge portions of tasty food in a good atmosphere. This happy place will never win awards but it is worth a visit . Cheap and wholesome, we will be back .

I came here for dinner by myself on a Thursday night. Food was superb, and everyone was friendly and attentive. Make sure you come here hungry as the portions are large - I had the ham hock with fries, with all the delicious accompaniments (mustard, horseradish, coleslaw and beetroot). The hock was fall-off-the-bone tender, beautifully cooked. The spicy horseradish, the mustard, and the salads all cut through the richness of the meat wonderfully. Great price too. I will definitely be coming here again!

Looking for somewhere to eat before a concert on Saturday night we stumbled upon Bread and Salt. The food was fantastic, the portions enormous and the service, music and atmosphere just perfect. We had pierogi, schnitzel and goulash and everything was cooked to perfection. We will be back.

Had dinner at Bread and Salt and it was superb. Pierogi, Blood Sausage and Hungarian Pancake were all delicious. Next time I visit Cardiff I will definitely dine here again.

We stopped in for lunch and had the pierogi, beef roulade and Hungarian pancakes. The food was outstanding and the portions were extremely generous. The staff were attentive and very COVID-aware. Strongly recommend but make sure you bring your appetite!

I went with my husband on a freezing cold night and had a warming spicy vodka to start.then the pierogi which were fantastic, then delicious beef and Hungarian pancake. The portions are generous, the vodka brilliant, the service perfect, I couldn't recommend it more highly.

I recently went to Poland and really enjoyed the food so was keen to take my family to a polish restaurant near to home to try it. This is a small and rustic restaurant and on the night we visited, had one waiter/ owner who was very efficient and made some recommendations. He did say there was a delay on the food as another table had just ordered, but the wait was not long at all. In term of the food, it was all really good and great it was home made. The stand out dish for me was the pierogi, these filled dumplings were home made, and large size. This meant they would be a meal in themselves and had a great ammount of spinach and feta filling. Duck legs were super tender and fell off the bone. Rosti were crisp on the outside, soft in the middle I.e perfect. Chicken breast was really large with an excellent sauce. Veg stew really flavor some and spicy. For desert there were home made sweet pastries which were good too. In terms of price, £10-14 for a main is very reasonable, wine at £12 a bottle great value too. Take all this together , definately deserving 5*. Another reviewer said feels a bit like going to someone’s house and eating their good homemade food which I agree with. Will go back.

My wife & me decided to eat here, my wife had peirogi, I had peirogi, we also had one pork schnitzel, we couldn’t fault the food, the owner was very friendly & talkative, I am Scottish & love polish food as my wife is polish,the portions are good, I would highly recommend this restaurant, will definitely go back. El desinfectante de manos estaba disponible si era necesario. Muy buen menú, especialmente para mí, ya que soy exigente con la comida. Elegí el papas rosti con gulash de verduras (en lugar de la versión de carne y pollo). Mi marido eligió el rollo de carne. Nos alegramos de no tener entrantes ya que las raciones eran enormes. Comida deliciosa y bien presentada. El chico que sirvió también fue muy útil. Definitivamente regresaremos. Excelente relación calidad-precio y buena comida. Muy recomendable.

My husband and I have just visited this restaurant for the first time and we were very impressed. We were greeted by a lovely couple and, when I explained that I had to follow a diet that is gluten free and vegetarian, she offered a number of options and clearly had a very good knowledge of gluten free food/cooking. I opted for the vegetarian stew which was absolutely lovely and my husband really enjoyed the duck. We loved the food, the atmopshere, the cosy feel of the place and the people who were so welcoming and friendly. We will definitely be back as soon as possible.

This was my first time at this restaurant and it was a very pleasant surprise! Torn between a few mouthwatering things on the menu, I opted for the Duck leg. It was delicious! The duck was tender and juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside - just the way it should be. The meat was served with some lovely baby potatoes, cucumber in sour cream, and a red cabbage salad. The portion was also generous. The restaurant itself was very clean and tidy, and the husband and wife team who run it were very friendly and smiley. Will definitely be going back to try the rest of the menu!

We went on a Friday afternoon, things we pretty quiet.We were one of two tables. We went for a wriggle deal and used it to our advantage getting the "Devolay" - a chicken roulade and duck. Both dishes were delicious!Despite it being quiet the atmosphere was really nice and easygoing. In fact, the thing that really made it was the customer service. The husband and wife team were welcoming, friendly and really cared about us enjoying our experience and our food.Will definitely be returning!

This is the second time we visited this elegant and relaxed restaurant. The first meal of pierogis and cabbage rolls was so good we wanted to come back and try more delectable bites. So we dove into the duck leg and then pork schnitzel with three Polish salads. We topped the meal off with Cream puffs and a fruit tart. The Krupnik after dinner drink was delicious !

Todos los platos que probamos fueron una agradable sorpresa. Pedí los panqueques de papa y obtuve los panqueques húngaros, pero en realidad eran mejores de lo que pedí originalmente, así que no tengo quejas. This is a great restaurant. The portions are a good size and the food is delicious and really good value. The perogis are great to start with - and I'd also recommend the potato pancakes, the chicken and the beef roulade. Definitely worth a visit.

Fui a pan y sal anoche con mi familia. Nunca he tenido comida polaca, pero definitivamente la volveré a tener. Desde el momento en que llegamos hasta el momento en que nos fuimos, fue encantador. Nos saludó un caballero encantador que nos recibió con una sonrisa amistosa. Nos sentamos en la parte delantera del restaurante ya que teníamos un cochecito, de esa manera no estábamos en el camino de otras personas. Tomó nuestra orden de bebidas y luego nos dejó por unos minutos para decidir qué nos gustaría comer. Diré que mi compañero y yo copiamos lo que mi hija y su compañero tenían para su primer plato. Este era el plato para compartir que consistía en panes de jamón, quesos, aceitunas verdes, salchichas de salami y tomates en rodajas. Fue presentado en un azulejo negro. Había más que suficiente para dos personas para compartir. Tengo que decir que no pude dejar de contarles lo bonito que era. Para nuestros platos principales todos pedimos cosas diferentes que mi compañero tenía el corvejón de jamón, y era enorme. Yo tenía el repollo relleno, mi hija tenía el estofado de carne y pollo y su compañero tenía el davota (perdón si lo he escrito mal) había más que suficiente en nuestros platos y la comida estaba bien presentada y era encantadora y caliente. El personal no te molestaba ni intentaba apresurarte a comer tu comida para sacarte. Recomendaría este restaurante a amigos y familiares, sin duda alguna lo haría.

Just what this area needed! A proper Eastern-European place! Generous portions, quality food, lovely service and good honest food. Keep up the good work guys.

We had some time to kill before going to see a film so thought we'd give this restaurant a go. The owner was super friendly and looked after us well throughout the meal. The menu has lots of hearty options, perfect for a cold winter's night. I was concerned there wouldn't be any decent vegetarian options, but the vegetable stew I had was very filling and nicely spiced. Will come back to try something more adventurous from the menu.

This was our first time at Bread & Salt and we really weren't sure what to expect. We left absolutely satisfied with the food, and delighted by the service. We're both vegetarian, which isn't always easily accommodated in eastern European cuisine, but we had several options and everything was fantastic. The potato and cheese perogies (or dumplings, as they call them) reminded me of the homemade ones common in Ukrainian communities in Canada, which I've been searching for since moving to the UK. The potato pancake was fried to perfection, and they subbed vegetarian stew for the meat-based goulash it usually comes with. The stew was was a bit heavy on the smoked paprika for my liking, but that's just a personal preference. My SO loved it. I was also given a treat - a side of sauerkraut that isn't even on the menu, but they happily obliged when I asked for it. The complimentary Polish liqueur at the end of the meal was the perfect way to finish. This is a great little mom and pop restaurant, and we will definitely be returning!

Caminamos mientras nos imaginábamos un cambio de la calle Chai de al lado. Así que fuimos arrebatados a una fiesta de todas las cosas polacas. Buena cerveza, buen vino (ciertamente no polaco), la comida era buena aunque un poco pesada. El servicio fue excelente. A pesar de que mi única queja sería la imagen gigante de MTV, está bien fusionada, es un bar y es un restaurante.

Mi esposa y yo estuvimos allí con amigos. La comida y el vino eran excelentes. Nos sirvieron muy rápidamente y todos disfrutamos de diferentes platos polacos. La sopa era increíble, así como albóndigas (dos tipos), carne y tortitas de patata, todos los platos son grandes y muy sabrosos. Vendrá de nuevo alguna vez. El menú en línea sería útil, actualmente lo envían a pedido en Facebook.

¿Qué puedo decir realmente, aparte de una noche en un restaurante polaco que parecía servir comida a diferencia de cualquier comida polaca que haya probado, ya sea en el Reino Unido o en Polonia?

Nuestra primera visita, no va a ser la última. Me encanta la comida polaca (conocí a mi marido galés en Polonia).

I just visited this place again and I am over the moon !!! Food is so delicious and for sure freshly made by friendly owner Piotr and Maja , they are such a open people and welcome us with open arms :) we tried ham hock , cabbage rolls and veggie option ( goulash ) EVERYTHING WAS OUTSTANDING !!!! We order selection of vodka shots as a addition to the great meal and company and that was the best evening so far in Cardiff !!!

This was my second visit, and again I (and my partner and a friend) loved the food and appreciated the warm and friendly service. We ordered a mixture of pancakes, dumplings and a ham hock. All were delicious (and generous) and really tasted home prepared and cooked. The music can be a bit loud (and heavy) at times but we still came away feeling very lucky to have this restaurant around the corner. We had a great time and will be back again soon. Don't miss it if you are in the area and enjoy Polish cuisine.

The food is good hearty Polish fare, traditional flavours done well, the portions are generous. The service is friendly and helpful, without being intrusive. The restaurant is relaxed, with handmade decor, and feels very genuine. All in all a very nice experience, and we will definitely be back.

I visited with my partner and friends having booked a table the day before. The table was ready and the owner was very friendly and helped with our choice of dishes. The food was delicious, mixed dumpling starters topped with bacon and onions, various schnitzels and cold beers. Everything had an authentic home-cooked taste and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening. In American folklore, you will sell your soul at the crossroads to attain something that you desperately want. Well this lunchtime I craved a wickedly honest lunch and upon the crossroads of Clifton St and Broadway I certainly found a hot place. This is such a sinful find, a restaurant of character and friendly, home grown staff. As many times in my past I do not go into the pretentious complexities of food, so here it is. I started with meat dumplings which were heavenly, beautifully cooked and the flavours were incredible. Moving onto the mains, I opted for a simple pork schnitzel. There it is my friends, wonderful home cooking. What a place!! My soul has been sold and I will be sinning there many times. Being that I work locally, my sins will always taste sweet.

What a pleasant surprise. If you like GREAT Polish food and lots of it, this is the place. Walking to the loo, the kitchen door was open a crack and the dough on a huge tin for the dumplings was sitting in plain sight. Just seeing e consistency, I knew they would be amazing. The 3 dumpling starter is highly recommended and make sure you mix and match the filling to get the full experience! But the main was amazing. I had the potato pancake topped with Clifton chicken and beef plus spices and creme fraiche. I needed help from five others to finish it and they gladly helped me! I also got to sample my firend's meals as well. Each was a new taste sensation and the variety has me going back next week with another group of friends to try more dishes. My only regret was not leaving room for the pancakes with chocolate and ice cream for dessert! The husband and wife team who run it are delightful and they are very helpful in explaining every meal.

Five seniors went for an impromptu lunch, and we're so pleased we did. We will try to make it a regular event. Light airy street corner location. We sat at a big table for six, with great solid dining chairs. The staff were charming, attentive and informative. It is a no-nonsense place, unpretentious homely and relaxing. The wine list was simple: one choice each of red, rosé or white. It was a birthday celebration and we got through two bottles of reasonably-priced very drinkable red! The menu, thankfully, is not enormous. Always a good sign. Classic Polish starters and main courses. But be warned - the portions are large. Next time we might have one main shared between two. We each had different dishes, and enjoyed the lot. We left with a spring in our step and full stomachs!

An absolute gem of a restaurant in Cardiff! The food is excellent, on both visits I have had the breaded chicken topped with peaches and pineapple, or ham and cheese, and it has been delicious. My boyfriend also had the ham hock which was very very good. The portion sizes are very generous and great value for money. Everything has that homemade feel that makes you want to go back again and ago. The service is also brilliant, very efficient and friendly. Would definitely recommend this place for hearty homemade meals. We already cannot wait to go back!

What a lovely little place on the corner of Clifton Street and Broadway! Very welcoming and friendly staff, spotless clean place where You can order proper home made fresh polish food. I ordered a mixed portion of pierogi (russian, cabbage with mushrooms and meaty). They were really big and full of delicious filling whereas the actual dough was thin and delicate. Highly recommended to visit with friends willing to try something new!

We happened by this pub since it was in the neighborhood of our cafe. The Polish-Hungarian style food was wonderful, especially the dumplings and Hungarian Potato Pancake covered in stew. The owner was friendly, and portions were large.

4 of us went for dinner after my parents had walked past and been intrigued by the menu.We had pickled herring and polish meat and cheeses. The herring was amazing, delicate fish with a sweet vinegar sauce. Highly recommended. The meat and cheese was varied and lots of it. Delicious. Main courses followed, 2 pierogi (filled dumplings) and 2 ham hocks.The dumplings were as good as anything we've had in Poland and topped with sweet onions and bacon bits. The ham hocks were plentiful and falling apart with dill topped potatoes, beetroot, sauerkraut and a carrot type dish. Again it was amazing. Zywiec in frosted glasses and zubrovca as a digestive. Can't recommend bread and salt enough. Eat here

Went on Saturday for a late lunch with my son and mother. Mum is Polish, myself and my son don't speak the language. The food was home cooked and incredibly tasty, decor rustic (which added to the charm) and the couple that run the place were so friendly and helpful. There was a fantastic family and community atmosphere and the locals were quite happy to chat with you if you wanted. Thoroughly recommend this eatery.

Looks basic in the decor, but spotlessly clean. Plenty of drinks to choose from, Polish beers too! I chose a Potato pancake with Goulash, cheese, sour cream and salad(coleslaw, red cabbage and sauerkraut) , this was really delicious and such an unusual dish, very authentic. A friend had the beef with noodles and gravy, this was totally unexpected with rolled beef seasoned really nicely served with giant noodles, like dumplings with cabbage and gravy sauce. Another friend chose chicken breast with chips and served with some salad too. They were all really tasty and the portions were huge! Great value for money, although we couldn't finish them... I would recommend they offer smaller portions as an option. We saw the Ham hock that another customer ordered, that looked massive too! The bar tender/waiter was extremely helpful although not that fluent in English he advised of the specials and was very nice and welcoming to us. The local Polish community obviously love this place and we're all very friendly towards the bar tender. Plenty of families coming here for lunch, a busy little restaurant. Like a short holiday enjoying some Polish tv and lovely food! High chairs available for little children too.

Very good Polish restaurant in the Cardiff suburbs. We visited on a weekend evening and whilst it was fairly quiet the food and service were brilliant. We had a chicken soup starter that was a traditional thin soup but it was VERY tasty. We followed up with goulash that again was very tasty with great accompaniments. Limited menu but good food and very friendly service. Will no doubt visit again when in the area.

We both had pierogi, classic ruskie and the other spinich & feta. They were huge and tastedawsome, certainly as good as my Polish grandmothers. Very polite staff and great central location. Will be going back for more very soon.

I've been here a number of times and always enjoyed it. Good, honest, wholesome Polish food at a good price. They also do takeaway (you pick up). Meat, sausages and vegetables in sizeable portions. Bottled and draft Polish beers.
