Brasserie at the Elan in Powys

Burgers were awful - we ordered a beef burger and a lamb burger and both were of very poor quality, looking like a supermarket value range product. Would absolutely not return.

A total failure when it comes to food. My husband and I ordered a medium-rare steak, chicken with herbs and soup. The steak came to us well-done, smelled like it was old and was stringy, looking like a sole. we told the lady that we had ordered medium rare and she replaced it and in less than 5 minutes we got a new steak (it tasted even worse - I had the impression that it was heated in a microwave and placed on a hot pan to color the outside) and it was lukewarm on the inside - a total failure. The chicken should have been covered with herbs and we got it in a sweet BBQ sauce, THE CHICKEN WAS DRY. A cook who cannot make juicy chicken and thinks of a medium-rare steak with a well-done one is not a cook in my opinion. I will only add that I have eaten a lot of steak in my life (even my husband makes the best medium-rare or rare steak, and also chicken, juicy pan-fried chicken - it's possible, you just have to know how to do it The soup is good, too spicy but good. In general, the atmosphere was very bad because it smelled of alcohol. We were not satisfied, especially for the money. I will add that we ordered two soups, two steaks and two chickens and each dish was inedible. the cook is a total failure. I don't recommend the building from the outside, but something could be done with it.

Lovely place, great service, serves good food from an extensive menu, plenty of seating, will happily revisit.

Great food and great service. We ordered chicken pie and battered cod and can easily recommend them both. There were many vegetarian options and Indian dishes too.!

Like Faulty Towers, never laughed so much. If you want good food, do not eat here.

This is the best place to eat or drink In rhayader Forget the lamb and crown. More atmosphere and spotless toilets. Unbelievable cakes that are freshly made on the premises. Can't wait to try the authentic curry's.

We had a great service. 5* for that. Food was good (Fish and Chips). Nice pub atmosphere, good with kids.

I find all the four and five star reviews very hard to believe. I ordered a chicken and mushroom pie with mashed potato but about five minutes later, received a cheap, tasteless microwaved ‘chicken’ burger served in a bun (which just fell apart) with a dollop of mashed potato! Who the heck would serve a burger in a bun with mashed potato? We were also told that they didn’t serve food on the grassed area even though there were other people eating there and told that they had no onion rings even though there were other people eating them. Quite possibly the worst food I’ve ever eaten. An absolute shambles from start to finish.

Always stop here after a hike in the Elan valley, lovely pub, not tried the food yet, but it looks delicious

We Visited for an evening meal and was greeted by a friendly young lady with a big smile. She pointed us towards a table, and took our drinks order,which she put on a tab for us. Lovely food, and good service.

Inedible rump steak. This was the most chewy rump steak I have ever had. Even the steak knife didn't want to cut it. And I would have told staff if anyone had bothered to check how are meal was. My husbands gammon wa apparently fine. Change your supplier and get a better steak

Horseshoe Gammon was cooked well, good value. Service was 10/10

Great food, very friendly, we will return.

A very pleasant place to dine and meet friends. A great selection on the menu also a special board. Large selection of drinks, too! The music is not too loud, so that you can hold a conversation without repetition.

Nice bit of lunch post training. Made the effort to make me an iced coffee which was nice.

What a lovely afternoon we had. The food was extremely tasty and all at a decent price. Dogs are welcome in the bar and beer garden. Fantastic staff, very friendly and welcoming. I believe his name is Martin (if not I'm sorry) but he let me sample a couple of ales whilst having a good chat. Very clean and modern with a traditional feel. Keep up the good work and we will be back in the future.

We were recommended this by a local chap so went in and booked a table at midday for 7.00 that evening for a romantic meal for 2. When we booked they failed to tell us there was a wake being held there so meal was totally spoilt by loud singing and swearing !!! The food however was good although we left after main course did not stop for desert or coffee.
