We do live locally ... after an office based day for my husband and I , we decided to bike to Bowleaze for a drink and fish and chips tea .. Reasonably priced beer , sat with a lovely, charming , beautifully calming view .. really peaceful , enjoying the sun .. we had fish and chip meal .. freshly battered crunchy cod , with obviously homemade chips .a plentiful portion .. delicious ! Would definitely recommend.

My friend and I were staying at the Riviera Hotel so decided to eat here on our first night to check it out, I wish we hadn't.We arrived at our table and as the resturant wasn't busy we thought we would get served fairly quickly. But it took 30 mins to place our order and get a drink.A few more people arrived after us and I think there were another 5 couples in total. They placed their orders and we all waited.......and waited....... and waited. After about a hour another couple asked where the food was, they were told that the cooks on duty were having a few problems and the head chef was being called in on his day off. (Why? can't they cook without him?)I went to our room and picked up a packed of Hula Hoops as my tummy was talking to me.After about another 30 mins food started to appear, all the other couples received some food, but we later spoke to them and they said it was undercooked and a chicken was still raw.I asked where our meal was and the waitress asked me what I had ordered, she had taken the order so I could only guess that it had been lost. After a 2 hour wait I said I was leaving and would not pay for the drinks that I had finished a hour earlier. We ended up having Fish & Chips from a local chippy only a short walk away.

Arriving at the hotel after a long drive we hit the restaurant early for dinner. As a result, we were first in and both opted for a cheeseburger and chips from the bar menu. Service was friendly and prompt and by the time we left, another six or seven tables had sat down. Before ordering we were told what was and wasn't available from the main menu which was thoughtful. The meal itself was excellent and reasonably priced. If we had been staying longer than a day we would certainly have visited again.

We come here every year whilst on Holiday in Weymouth and always have extremely good fish and chips, unfortunately this year they were not so good. The chips seemed as if they were from the previous day just re fried and as for the fish it was more batter than fish. This is a shame as it seems like the standards here have slipped a bit, even the gentleman who served us gave us the impression that he didn't want to be there! We hope for better next time.

With great options available, especially for children, this canteen style facility provides fantastic food at excellent prices. After a day at the beach (or amusements depending on the weather) it is wonderful to walk in to a spacious eaterie where sandy toes and the tired moans of children are not frowned upon. Whether it's fish and chips, burgers, pasta, chicken or a jacket potato you're after, it's all there on the menu, served quickly and with an efficient system. The puddings are excellent, although the ice cream parlour next door is also very tempting. Highly recommended.

Apologies if this is difficult to read but to be honest it is going to be rather awkward to writeI have written a review previously for the Riviera in 2013 that if you read will express my feelings that it could and should be somewhat better (mostly regarding the grounds) and that I found the staff friendly and welcoming and that the Bowleaze Restaurant appeared to offer good value, but not having tried suggested you read other peoples comments..Now to bring it all up to date:We had booked Sunday Lunch for four on Fathers Day/Mid-Summers Day 21st June 2015.I invite you to read the Hotels take on the excellent Carvery they serve up on Sundays! We arrived around 12:30 to find a completely empty restaurant (remember this is Fathers Day)We waited at the restaurant entrance and eventually a young man approached us and confirmed he had our booking and he then pointed us in the direction of the corner tablePlease don't think I'm implying he was rude, he wasn't, he was just not experienced, this became obvious when we had to leave our table to get some drinks from the bar where the same young man served us.It was at this point we asked to see the Menu and requested the air con be adjusted because it was so cold in the Restaurant.Unable to provide a menu the young man said he would check with the chef and upon his return we were a given a choice of just two meals!! Plus he did apologise explaining there was a staff shortage that one of the chefs had not turned up.I'm at a loss to find a Hotel of this size could be in such a situation because one chef was absent.Completely disappointed and in total dis belief we, collectively, took the decision to finish our drinks and leave.Exiting the still cold restaurant with our drinks we sat in the lounge area, and to be fair it is nicely appointed and pleasantly comfortable, and drank up before heading of to eat in Moreton. In conclusion I find it so sad that this beautiful Art Deco building appears so poorly managed and is in need of so much TLC it's crying out to be the venue it so deserves to be.

My wife and I made a reservation (in person) several weeks ago to treat my mother-in-law to lunch on Boxing Day, which happened to be her 94th birthday. At the time of making the reservation the person taking the details checked to ensure that the restaurant would be open, this was confirmed as 'YES it will be open' and they would decorate the table with balloons etc. and make it a pleasant surprise for her. When we arrived on Boxing Day we were advise the restaurant was CLOSED. Nobody from the Riviera had had the courtesy to contact us and inform the restaurant was not going to be open. The receptionist did go off and make some enquires, with 'management' saying they would supply a chef and waitress and a free drink, but sorry, to late! and who wants to sit in an empty restaurant. The day was completely spoilt. Will never eat at the Riviera again!

I attended a wedding reception at the Riviera and everybody was disappointed with the bar staff. As per usual, like most places, they were understaffed for serving hundreds of people. But to make it worse they were rude, unhelpful and never said thanks. They also refused to serve people at one end of the bar but didn't put a sign up to say that end was closed so that caused confusion and bad feeling.

Have just called in to The Riviers for tea and coffee this afternoon. How awful. Customer service when ordering the drinks is sorely lacking. No cream for the coffee, but there will be a delivery tomorrow! No help today, is it?? We sat in the foyer, as there appears to be no lounge. The tea and coffee arrived, and immediately had to ask for a replacement cup and saucer as it was dirty. This was replaced straigt away, with no problems. But on closer inspection, of the 6 cups and saucers all were dirty with coffee/ tea marks on the inside and outside of the cups and drip marks on the saucers. The milk jug was also dirty. I chose not to drink mine as I didn't want to use the cups. My 5 companions did have a drink, but the coffee didn't taste nice. This is in a lovely spot with fantastic vIews over Weymouth bay, but we will NOT be back. Goodness knows what the rest of the building/facilities are like if this is anything to go by.

Called in for lunch on a wet, miserable Sunday. Didn't intend having a full on roast but they looked so good we felt we should try them. We weren't disappointed. We went for the standard size ( you could have a small appetites one or a two meats one for less or more money) and I opted for beef whereas husband chose the pork. The meals came pretty quickly seeing as the place was full up. We hadn't booked but it seemed like many people do as lots of the tables had reserved signs on. Our meats were excellent and the plates piled high with veggies - cabbage, carrots, Swede and parsnips plus roast potatoes of course. Lots of all of them but they could've done with being a bit hotter (roast spuds were very hot but the other veg weren't). Husband had plenty of gravy on his pork but my meal was very dry, just a bit of gravy in the Yorkshire pudding, none on the rest of the plate which made it a bit of a struggle to get through. I'll be brave another time and ask nicely if I can please have some gravy but they were busy at this time so I didn't want to be a pain.
