I had ordered from this restaurant and waited beyond the delivery time, when I chased the order up o was told they were unable to deliver and would I mind cancelling the order, when I wouldn’t they asked if I would send a taxi to collect my order. Disgusting service, no apology and no solution, avoid this place at all costs.

We ordered a takeaway whilst on vacation. The food was first class. We had garlic prawn purée with puff bread & a mixed meat and prawn chef special curry delicious with garlic Nan popadoms pickle & vegetable rice, a must try

EXCELLENT FOOD we had garlic prawn puree in puff bread then Kasmiri curry with naan breads and we got free drink as well with woucher deal.

Had meal here about 4 months ago and to be honest it was very bland and mediocre, so that's why it got 2 stars. Fast forward to this week and they were on Groupon offering 4 starters, 4 mains and 4 sides with a drink for £29.99. So we gave it another go not expecting much to be honest. This time was much better meals all had more flavour and we're much better. Don't know if chef has changed but it was much better. In fact I've been back on Groupon and bought the same deal again.

We found this place on Groupon and so glad we did. We got extras on top of the deal which were all worth it. Really nice warm, fresh food. We ended up taking food home from ordering a bit too much. Quick service.

Amazing food, and very friendly and helpful staff.

Excellent choice and very tasty. Freshly cooked and decent portions. Food was well above the Groupon value so definitely worth a visit.

Disgusting food. Completely unprofessional staff don’t know what they doing. Horrible food it’s not India food at so please don’t waste your time and money eat something else.

Use to be decent not sure what happened this time but teased like a supermarket jar mix of curry sauce. Very poor.

We have just been to the bowburn spice restaurant for the Sunday buffet for the second time and it was fantastic the food was piping hot and absolutely gorgeous we started with the poppadoms and pickles really really nice then had a mixed kebab starter what was so tasty then onto mains we had naga chicken, South Indian garlic chilli masala, lamb rogan josh, butter chicken, chicken tikka masala and khahari lamb with mushroom pilau and nan breads peshawari, and keema and it was fantastic we enjoyed every mouthful we would definitely recommend it is well worth a visit you won't be disappointed

Took the family this evening and had such a lovely meal. Starters were great and mains were some of the best Indian food we had ever had. What a great little restaurant and to cap It all you can take your own drinks. Highly recommend, give it a try you won’t be disappointed! James and Sue

Went for the Sunday all you can eat very unlike most other as you order what you would like from your table and the staff bring it to you making the over all quaility of the food far nicer as its fresh and hot with it being made to order and the experience was far more enjoyable than a regular all you can eat the staff where friendly and the food was lovely would definitely go back and would certainly recomend thanks for a great night 😃

Just been in today for Sunday buffet where we were very satisfied with some lovely food and service. The gentleman serving us couldn't do enough for us.. loved it and will definitely be back again soon!

My husband and I came with friends for an evening meal and it was all excellent. We all had starters which arrived quickly and looked as tasty as they actually were. Our main courses were delicious and the portion sizes were perfect. The waiter was very helpful and we enjoyed chatting to him about India and how different foods are cooked. Although they don't sell alcohol you can take your own and glasses are provided. This is a great idea as it means you aren't paying over the odds for wine and beer. All in all a lovely night and we will be returning.

Great little find tonight food was seriously one of the best Indian we have had and service was great. Prices beyond reasonable therefore exceptional value for money. Cannot fault it will definitely be returning very soon.

Delicious fresh cooked, tasty meal, could not have enjoyed it more. The varied menu makes it great to be able to try new things but will all the usual favourites too. Staff so friendly and welcoming. Will go back soon 100%.

What a great Indian. You can take I. Yous own alcohol and the food is such good quality (on par with Sashins Newcastle) and a great price. We have given from Yarm on several occasions and it worth the drive! James and Sue

Worst Indian I’ve ever eaten. Ordered a takeaway and experienced the most watered down, bland curries I’ve ever eaten. Nothing resembled an Indian curry unfortunately. Will not return.

Ordered a take away bank holiday Thursday. Food was very good quality (king prawn tikka etc.), was impressed. Delivery was also surprisingly snappy.

Disgusting Madras. New to the area and shocked at what they are trying to pass of as Indian cuisine here. Couldn't pay me to eat here again. Even the chips tasted weird

We had a lovely meal at Bowburn Spice - its appearance is misleading from the outside as it’s bigger than it looks. We couldn’t have been made more welcome, the hospitality was second to none! The food did not disappoint and we were treated to some delicious cuisine. Would definitely return - thanks Bowburn Spice!

Had a few takeaways from here and decided to dine in , had a great night , food excellent , service and atmosphere really nice . More people should try it.

Really bad. Hair in food, horrible taste and terrible service

We used to visit the old restaurant and had high expectations, on arrival the restaurant was very quiet but the service was quick and the staff very helpful and the food was fresh and tasted great, starter of mixed platter was delicious and the shaslik and tikka masala was very tasty. We were given a complimentary Indian desert to try and was lovely. The only downside was that it was very quiet but because of this we got 1-1 service which was great and would recommend to anyone to try.

Walk in to take away. Staff do cleaning even no customer. The shop was cleaning and tidy. Friendly staff which entertain all questions as i'm first timer. Ordered briyani lamb and kebab. Credit to briyani, large portion (i can share with my wife and 1 kids). The taste also good.

Heard nothing but good review, but fairly disappointed. Food was okay, lacking spices and small portions. Staff were friendly and decco nice.

Where to start, the worst Indian I have ever had. The foot was overcooked mush, onion Bhaji was mushy inside and nothing like a bhaji, the tikka was like water with not much chicken, rice overcooked. The peshwari nan was tasteless. Very poor will not buy from here again!

Having been new to the area you normally have to go to a few takeaways to find the best one. However in this instance the Bowburn Spice was fantastic. After having nice meals here in the past, the last few have been very poor, infact the last one tested like it was warmed up from the day before, the sauce was awful and the chicken tough as old boots , I will give them one last try then go elsewhere

In the past Bowburn had one of the best Indian restaurants in Durham. It went downhill and I was so hopeful that things would be better now it was under new management, but it is no better. The first issue I had with the tandoori chicken. The taste of the spices was so subtle it was almost non-existent. Not a great start. Main courses were also severely lacking in spice. Is the squeeze so bad that you need to cut back on spices? Chicken wasn't cooked into the main dishes. While I understand that meat will be cooked in advance, I should be able to taste the sauce in the chicken. This sort of lazy cooking is something that should be avoided. The coconut rice was boiled rice with dessicated coconut sprinkled on top. Again, very lazy cooking, The saving grace was the poppadoms and naan bread, hence why you avoided a one-star review. It's such a shame, and it left us severely disappointed. Won't be going back unless they greatly improve.

I had a meal a few months ago in the restaurant and it was lovely. . Decided to have a takeaway tonight Prawn tikka it was an awful the taste and the colour was a strange bright red i had 1 mouthful and it went in the bin It was cold too . Wont advise takeaways.

Not the best Indian food we have had, by a long way. The masala sauce was very thin and watery and an unnatural shade of bright red. The jalfrezi was predominantly onion. Overall quite disappointing given the great reviews. We won’t be going back.

Ordered from here 4 times now. Absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly. We have tried various dishes and every one has been fantastic Food always delivered quickly and piping hot. Fabulous food 👍

Absolutely disgusting £65 cost me the chicken tikka was not like it was nothing like Indians sorry but it all went in the bin I went here cos read reviews and thought why not give it ago after paying for it I realized its was under new management. 1 star and thats because you have to click one my star rating is none And then I thought o God a bet its rotten. And yes I was right AVOIDE IF I Was you don't waste your money onestly you thank me

Been here a couple of times now and it has never disappointed, eating in with the lovely atmosphere is absolutely wonderful as well as the constantly supportive and pleasant staff make the experience one of a kind and ordering food to take away is nearly just as good as eating in (the only downside being you gotta have your own after eights at home :D ), the price is very reasonably set for each item, while also being affordable, and I would definitely recommend this restaurant as one of the best Indian restaurants to experience.

Got 2 currys peanut butter Chicken, Jaipur chicken, tandoori chicken in starts and garlic naans. Didn't like either of curry, peanut butter chicken was not eatable at all. Tandoori chicken in starts was tasty. Stars reflecting value for money, only tandoori chicken was likeable out of order which was of £4 out of £37

I visited Bowburn Spice for the first time tonight to have a take away. There is a lovely restaurant as well as the take away service. The prices are very reasonable and the food is exceptional. Fresh onion bhajis not greasy and nice and crisp, pilau rice which was well spiced and the rice well separated, tarkha daal which was just as I remembered it from my travels in India and Nepal and Chicken Jalfrezi. Nice flavours and spicy too! They do local deliveries too. I will definitely be back, maybe to dine in next time.

Best Indian I’ve had in ages, delicious flavours. We had a spicy version of the chicken Tikka, Bengal prawns and Paneer. All amazing. Bring your own booze great with the cost of living crisis too, very affordable offers on a Wednesday. Passionate service and attentive. Would recommend.

If you like Indian food and great service, this place is a must visit! On passing you may be forgiven in thinking it's just a takeaway but it's actually a lovely, clean and smart restaurant situated just over the road from the CO-OP in Bowburn. The food is delicious and plentiful with the best naan bread you could wish for. We went on a Wednesday which currently gives you a banquet option: choice of starter, main course with rice, naan plus a side for two to share and all for £16.50pp. But, what makes this place doubly appealing is the fact that you can bring your own alcohol - they'll even supply the glasses! It's a concept very popular around West Yorkshire which I think deserves to catch on in our area too. They do sell soft drinks but we chose to bring a bottle of wine to share (as did our friends) which, lets face it, saved us a small fortune! Go on, give it a try - you'll like it a lot! We'll be back.

Portion sizes were inadequate. Not much spice to the chicken tikka main. Naan bread didn’t have much taste. Was planning on going here for a meal, but now we won’t be going.

Popadoms were nice n warm, we had lamb jalfrezi, chicken haliali,onion bahji, saag aloo,mush rice, garlic& peshwari naan( scuse all rubbish spellings!!!) Food was amazing, bust weve had, v. Fast and v. Fresh

Me and my husband was here on Friday night with friends for a birthday meal. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. They went out of there way to help you.. Also Kye the young waiter was very proffesional.The food was amazing and cooked to perfection. Will defo be back again. Keep up the good work see you soon x

Sheek kebab was large portion but a little dry, vindaloo had a slight sweet taste to start but that blended away when the heat kicked in, rice and naan were the usual offerings, will I go back , yes, the heat and potato in the vindaloo takes me back to the old days, well done all staff, I'll be back!

Delicious, finger-licking good food and very welcoming staff. I also like that they had dairy-containing food well marked on the menu (I'm vegan) and the food was brought out quickly. Will come here again for sure!

First time trying was recommended by a friend, and I will say out of all the local India takeaways and restaurants that I’ve tried this one is the best . Food came hot , full of flavour and fresh herbs not your big typical big tinned sauces , decent portions so yeah very pleased great addition to the area . Also to top it off I got free Pompadoms and sauce , 20% off collection discount and he even Chucked me a free bottle of cobra which overall is just what I need after a long hot week working out side thank you very much it was that good I wrote this review mid way through my dinner I’ll definitely be coming in to the restaurant to sit down and have some food

Heard so many fantastic reviews. It's bit pricier for some things than other takeaways and we trying keep tight our finances. However I got bit spare cash and decided treat me and my wife at the weekend. What can I say but bloody lovely. If I was allowed swear I would it was awesome. The Passanda was absolutely stunning out of this world the service was fast. I know we only live down road but when they advertise delivery in certain window and they smash it. It all adds to the review. I certainly should recommend this takeaway to anyone who loves good Indian takeaway. We have really got a fab hidden jewel in Bowburn.

The best Indian restaurant in County Durham! The food is amazing. The staff are friendly and make you feel welcome. I honestly cannot fault Shahlux.

Really good food. Very glad this has opened as it’s very close to us and the other Indians are a bit of a drive away. Have only done takeout so not sure what the restaurant is like but the food is excellent.
