Amazing! Large portions, great flavours and super tasty. The chunks of chicken in the curries were HUGE! Honestly the best Indian take away I have had. Will 100% be ordering again and recommending to all my friends and family.

Enjoyed our food which arrived piping hot. Tasty curries and a very good choice of different curries from the usual. Good range for vegetarians.

Order delivered earlier than expected time. Really hot and fresh, no staleness to the bread or rice. We had an item incorrectly sent - wrap sent instead of curry. Rang up and spoke to a really polite and apologetic man which makes a nice change from some places! Issue was rectified immediately and arrived at the door within 10 mins which is about how far away we live. Food was beautiful which was no surprise to us. Definitely ordering again

One of the cartons was damaged so had lost some of the sauce and the nan breads are on the smaller side so make sure you get more than you think you need BUT I wasn’t that bothered as the food was delicious.

IF YOUR ON A DIET, WELL THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU, COS YOU WON'T PUT ON WEIGHT EATING HERE, very small portions, starter chicken pakora 4 bits looked like it had been sliced with a razor blade that's how thin it was, £1 each poppadom, £2.50 chutneys tiny square pots chicken dupiaza, chicken tikka massala 4 bits of chicken in each bowl very small portions 2 nan breads, 1 shandy 1x lemon on lime, £59.90 There are Alot better places then this to dine at, it was A SPUR of the moment meal, won't be back,

I went as part of a large group of 18 people on Saturday evening . Everything about this visit was first class. From communication before the event .... they opened 45 mins early to accommodate us..... to splitting the bill and covering a small shortfall. The food was amazing.... it all came out together, was beautifully presented and was of a really good quality - everyone really enjoyed their meal. The service was first class, they offer great value and a really great menu. I have to make special mention of the peshawar naan, a personal favourite of mine. I often go to the west end of Newcastle to buy freshly baked naan, this was every bit as delicious .... and as nice as any I had on a recent tour of India. Authentic flavours in lovely surroundings. This was my first visit, but I will definitely be back with other friends and family....it will soon be a firm favourite.

Ordered for delivery came within 45 mins as opposed to the hour on the order. Garlic mushroom chicken tikka and onion bahji were delicious. Main course of butter chicken tikka and lamb dopiaza were really tasty. The chips were fantastic not your usual frozen chips. All food was hot cannot fault anything. Thank you

I've had a number of takeaways from here delivered by them and they've been mostly good with good portion sizes and tasty food. First time eating in. Restaurant was empty at 7pm. Comfortable temperature and attentive staff. I don't like providing negative feedback but I'm sorry, I'm not dining in here again. Portions were small for the approx £12 price per main, sag paneer, the paneer was like rubber, 5 small pieces of chicken in my dish, beer was £4 - £5 per bottle/draught. We just felt a delivered takeaway was better all round. Naan breads were first class. It was my birthday and I felt disappointed all round. Could not recommend for dining in

Extremely poor food, again. The food we first got from this takeaway was very good and we were impressed, with lots of flavour and depth to the food. Our experience previous to last night was not good though and I received a naga chili curry that had zero taste of naga chillies. These are distinctive in flavour and so are very easy to recognise. The curry didn't hardly taste of anything at all and was more like an Indian base gravy. We hadn't ordered for a while after that, until last night. We thought it may have been an 'off night' for them, although there was no excuse for what we received. We thought we'd give them another chance and surely they would have their main chef working on a Saturday night. Last night was much worse. The lamb phall had 4 pieces of meat in it. Just 4! The taste was very poor and had an overriding flavour/texture of too much stale powder. The naga chilli curry was watered down!! you can add as much water as you want when making a curry and when it reduces down and you've finished cooking, it will taste great (if you know how to make a curry), but if you ever add water to a finished curry it just tastes watered down and there's no escaping it - this was watered down and tasted so weak. The last chicken curry tasted off and soon as you tasted it. Something in the curry was off and not fresh. The curry tasted off. We ate very little of these and the vast majority was thrown into the bin and a waste of £36. To top it off my partner and I both had a 'bad belly' today and it cannot have been from anything other than the takeaway food. We will never order from there again. They have clearly changed chef as the food was appalling the last twice. I'll never chance them again.

Alwaya a good welcome here. We have been many times to this lovely relaxed restaurant. Free car parking available opposite. We have always enjoyed the food here. It's really gorgous and nicely presented. Our drinks brought out promptly and orders taken with care. We've had various starters of dips, poppadoms to start with, all lovely and fresh. The Lamb Tikka starter is cooked well and tender or Chichen Pakora or onion bajis or mixed kebab. All freshly made. No complaints whatsoever. 👌 Nan bread is light and fresh, not like some other places ... The chef has a gift of using just the right amount of spice for me and my family. You can request more spicy if you'd like your food to be, or milder as u order !! Main courses of tender chicken tikka always good and tasty.. my chicken Tikka Massala has just the right blend of flavour for me and its not heavy, my son loved the food here too. 😋 Chefs specials are varied and always great to try. Also the madras was nice as well. Not all at once obviously!! 😊 The 'specials' for eating in on a Thursday and Sunday or for a takeaway .. are great value and just as freshly made. 5 courses. The restaurant is elegant and newly refurbished and spotlessly clean. Staff always polite can't fault this restaurant and will be back again soon. !! 😋 😋 😋 x

Lovely setting food average, not much crack waiters the old man bless him didn’t really have a clue? it was quiet, chicken tikka was tough. I ordered the Sri Lanka chicken which was way too spicy, after leaving half the way, I did ask me if it was too spicy. This should have coconut in it. I don’t think I did. For my half of cider I was served a can of Strongbow which I had to open myself. It was okay, but I sadly won’t be returning after our friend suggested it we thought we would give it a try. I wouldn’t waste your money here there are plenty more places to spend your money.

Would not recommend after a meal for four people that was not up to scratch. Poor customer service and two if the dishes presented were insipid, bland and not what was ordered, again portion size was below average as a result, shall not revisit

Absolutely shocking service. All the staff are ill mannered and impolite. One brown haired girl on her phone and one blonde running back and fourth looking as if she’s trying to act like she’s doing her job. Won’t be returning. Angry face.

Best Indian ever or was.... Edit: last few times onion bhajis have been raw in the middle 😔 Edit 2: this seems to have been rectified. Last few times the onion bhajis have been great.

I ordered a takeaway. Starter was average, keema pilau had no keema in it! The worst though was the seafood Balti - seafood means various fish, not lots of cheap shrimps and a couple of pieces of a chewy fish. This had no taste whatsoever! Someone had thrown a tin of tomatoes in with the cheap shrimps and called it a Balti. Absolute waste of just under £20 for 1 person. I will never get anything from here again.

Had a meal from the spicery this evening it wasn't good at all. keema naan next to no meat in it keema rice the same. madras was pretty week it terms of spice. other two meals we got were watery very disappointed. best indian restaurant by far in the northeast is sajis along sunderland road in gateshead. ive struggled to find a good takeaway in this part of the northeast full stop thats counts as 2 poor indian takeaways and bad chinese and 2 poor chip shops aswell.

Not used these for a while so thought I'd give them another try. Onion bhajis were OK but very greasy. Chicken Tikka starter was OK but mint sauce was like water, very poor quality. Main course was chicken dupiaza, chicken was very tough and chewy so most of it went in the bin. Given this place is a bit more expensive than most of the other takeaways in the area I expected better. Quality has gone downhill over the last year or so, certainly won't be using again :(.

Bland small portions, one guest had prawns in his meal when they weren't ordered, a hair in another! Tasteless naan, no salt or pepper n when requested a well used plastic saxa container was put in the table (see photo)

Fantastic restaurant offering a good takeaway service with both delivery and collection offered. In the six times, I have used them, the food has always been fantastic and the consistency of the standard is refreshing. I highly recommend trying them if you haven't already

Unfortunately, we returned to a la spicery for a takeaway, after having not eaten from here since before lockdown. A friend of ours had advised against us trying here, informing us that it had gone downhill. And I’m afraid to say I agree with him. Chaat starter lacked its usual flavours. Lamb was dry/chewy. Curry sauce was not hot and frankly quite bland. Naan wasn’t very garlicky. Overall, portion sizes were good, but it was lacked its previous quality of authentic (british) Indian taste. We won’t be returning again after this performance. Sorry

Ordered starters and mains for 5 people for takeaway. Spend +£70 on the meal. All curries were NOTICEABLY watered down, to the point that it was like water with food colouring. When I called to complain I was advised they would replace two of the five curry dishes we ordered but this had already soiled the rice and ruined the meal. He then suggested he will give us "two free curries next time" even though 4 of the 5 people eating binned their mains! Will NOT be ordering from here again. Food was disgusting, you expect some substance to a curry, not for it to be watered.

Ordered last night, the food arrived on time, was hot and all very delicious.

Spur of the moment visit, but A la Spicery had been recommended, so was looking forward to a good Indian meal. Started with a very warm welcome from the young ladies who showed use to our table. The menu was your normal Indian cuisine and a very good selection. Asked a couple of questions with regards to sauces etc and the young lady was very knowledgeable. That’s where normal stopped, The food is exceptionally quality, fresh flavours and tasteful, portion size was spot on and Both Freshly made popadoms and Nans.

It was beautiful as was the food, well worth the money, be very hungry if u go.

Placed and order last week, part of the order was missing after waiting around 1 hour. Rang today to place another order told arrogant woman on phone they missed part of my order last time to then be told their is nothing she can do about it after been charged full amount! Very poor customer service didn't try to help manager should brief on customer service skills!

Recommended. A hidden gem, Amazing food, amazing service, during the lockdowns we have been getting takeaways from Ala spicery, the food can only be described as exceptional every time. I love Indian food & usually travel from consett to ocean road in South Shields. However this will be our new restaurant & takeaway & it’s not too far from home.

We have used A la Spicery often but they really excelled themselves tonight . Food was superb , 4 people , 4 starters , 4 mains . Both ended in the bin less than half eaten. The poppadoms were stale and soft, clearly a day old. And the naan was doughy and undercooked. The bought in mint sauce was nice though. Will never use this takeaway again.

Sorry but this was the worst Chicken Tikka Masala I have ever had, it was the wrong colour, it smelt bad, the chicken was lumps of frozen chicken for sure we had a taste but even that was bad, I wouldnt care but we ordered two as the reviews were good about this place but never again.

We have ordered a couple of times now and loved it everytime! Brilliant service, quality takeaway and delicious dishes! We will definitely be coming back and hope to come to the restaurant to eat in when restrictions are lifted 😊

Usually enjoy a takeaway from here but my partner was ill through the night after his meal; violently sick and diarrhoea.

This was a recommendation, from a good and trusted friend , however our pallets are out of sync more than I could expect. Food was tasteless, Not even takeaway standard for the cost of £60........ which the worst takeaway wouldn’t even be £6 Definitely been had .....restaurant was empty (I know why now) staff were in interested and had no knowledge of the dishes

Very disappointed tonight. Have used this restaurant on a regular basis. Tonight we ordered a takeaway at 7.40pm to be told it would be about an hour. 2 hours later we rang to find out what was happening and was told it would be another 10 mins. Personally I think they lost our order. Not good business .
