Spice Island in County Durham

Collected my order due to the reviews saying it takes too long. Should have avoided it instead. The food was vile. The chicken was rubbery, poppadoms were stale and the food in general was tasteless. Probably the worse curry I’ve ever experienced. It went in the bin after a few mouthfuls. Will not be eating from here again!

I was the only person in restaurant, it was very cold and looks like its half way through a refurb. food tasted ok but i was on the toilet 2 times during the night to dispose of it. i wont be back here

Slightly late delivery but acceptable due to weather conditions.

Called to ask if food halal, got told can’t check with chef for Halal requirements and don’t have halal produce certificate. Woman rudely said she doesn’t have time to check and disconnected call. Very bigotry and rude behaviour. Just lost a customer

2 and half hours to bw exact food was burnt and cold un edible iv rang them nothing but pure cheek on the phone, i have told them to come and get it back not fit for a dog. I will never ever order from here agon 30 quids worth of food.

Food was expensive, yet fantastic. Delivery driver could use some lessons in customer service, do not appreciate being shouted at for her failing to bother to knock at my door.

Lamb Tikka in mixed kebab tough as boots. Madras sauce awful, probably the worst madras sauce I've had in years - bland, tasteless and a funny colour. Disappointing 😢.

We went 29th October on a Tuesday night. We were the only 4 people in there. The food was amazing, and tasted wonderful. I have had quite a few Indians playing cricket all over the country and this was a good one! We were even treated to some free Brandy’s!

Oh dear, this place has changed since I was last here a few years ago. Different people and different quality food. Enough to say I won't be going back. No wonder there was no-one eating in.

very disappointed 😞. meat was chewey and one bit just grizzle 🙄. The "pakoras" were not pakoras. more like cutlets and they tasted awful.. I only ordered from you because my favourite takeaway was not taking orders yesterday.

2 hours after placing the order, and after 3 extensions on the delivery timescale I called the restaurant to find out d the order hadn’t even been started. Ended up going to collect 2 hours later

Tadka dhal and parathas were great. Generous portions. But the madras sauce was mediocre. Watery and not that flavourful.

Unfortunately a lot of the curry had spilt from the carton and the poppadoms were burnt.

Phenomenal!! Will definitely be using this as my regular from now on!! 11/10!!

some of meat left a funny aftertaste so awful most went into the bin ! Also our bill was £42.60 we handed over £50 to get told she d come out without any change and it would get dropped in which it hasn't

We order from here all the time and just wanted to show our appreciation for Spice Island. Staff are always polite, food is always piping hot and delicious. Can't fault anything. We get the same order every time and it's consistently good. Would definitely recommend :) Food always comes on time, if not early! There's often a little something extra in there, too, which doesn't go unnoticed. Thank you for the great customer service and even better food. We'll be back soon :)

Best curry in shildon in my opinion, still has room for improvement. Madras is lovely but has a lasting taste like no other I’ve ever had and I cannot put my finger on what it is, but it’s not in a positive way, not enough to ruin the dish though. Don’t like the fact they do thin chips/fries either. Maybe that’s my fault for expecting Indian chips. 7/10

Order was delivered fairly quickly but food was absolutely awful. Ordered a chicken tikka and a chicken madras, the madras tasted like acid, absolutely no flavour to it & the tikka of BBQ sauce. Ordered a cheese naan & couldnt believe my eyes when i received a half cooked naan bread with half melted cheap cheese singles inside. Onion bhaji’s were rock solid and disappointing. Once again fantastic Phal curry with all the extras, rice , bread , chips , pickle tray poppadoms. Turned up early and food still piping hot . A very polegetic driver saying sorry its early . Doesn't bother me at all . EXCELLENT WELL RAN BUSINESS . 10/10 CLASS FOOD. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 5 STARS FOR ME !!

the steak was extremely fatty and tiny the chips were full of grease and the lamb chops were mostly bone and the tiny and I mean tiny little bit of lamb was disgusting, I would have to really really think about ever ordering again from here

My food arrived 1 hour late and the chips were cold and hard , we also didn’t recieve salad or mint sauce with the onion bagjis very disappointed and we paid extra for more mint sauce which didn’t arrive

One of the best Indians I’ve had in such a long time, came for a weekend away with my boyfriend and went for a last minute meal. Service was excellent and the food was amazing. Portions are absolutely huge and well worth the money. We had to take out due to leavint so much. Will 100% return due to how amazing the food was and excellent service. Cannot recommend enough :) 10 out of 10

We went last night for the first time based on online reviews, we weren't disappointed!! The food was amazing, portions were quite big so we brought a good amount home too. We had the restaurant to ourselves, not sure why it was empty when the food is so good. The guy serving us could not have been more helpful, really nice humble guy. We'll definitely be going back!!!

Had food from here before and it was ok. But the food tonight was so over salted it was inedible and went in the bin, the only thing we could eat was the bread. Very very disappointing.

Myself and my wife had a very had a wonderful evening at spice island, don’t be put off by the work in progress!! The food was brilliant and the service was excellent! Nothing was too much bother and we were looked after beyond expectation! Will definitely be going back soon.

Food was 45 minutes late and freezing cold by the time it got to us. I had rang the shop and he blamed the delivery driver for it being so late. Chicken tikka was spicy and the chicken korma was bland and tasteless.

Food was lovely. Shame about chicken tikka all leaked out the foil tray. By the time it arrived bottom of carrier bag was swimming with tikka sauce and nothing left in the tray apart from chicken. Disappointing when you pay nearly £40 for a takeaway
