Absolutely rotten would never ever order again was disgusting chicken wasn’t even proper chicken curry was like gelly 😷

Food was lovely, was still hot when delivered. The garlic naan is unreal

2 hours after placing the order, and after 3 extensions on the delivery timescale I called the restaurant to find out d the order hadn’t even been started. Ended up going to collect 2 hours later

Tadka dhal and parathas were great. Generous portions. But the madras sauce was mediocre. Watery and not that flavourful.

Unfortunately a lot of the curry had spilt from the carton and the poppadoms were burnt.

Phenomenal!! Will definitely be using this as my regular from now on!! 11/10!!

We order from here all the time and just wanted to show our appreciation for Spice Island. Staff are always polite, food is always piping hot and delicious. Can't fault anything. We get the same order every time and it's consistently good. Would definitely recommend :) Food always comes on time, if not early! There's often a little something extra in there, too, which doesn't go unnoticed. Thank you for the great customer service and even better food. We'll be back soon :)

Order was delivered fairly quickly but food was absolutely awful. Ordered a chicken tikka and a chicken madras, the madras tasted like acid, absolutely no flavour to it & the tikka of BBQ sauce. Ordered a cheese naan & couldnt believe my eyes when i received a half cooked naan bread with half melted cheap cheese singles inside. Onion bhaji’s were rock solid and disappointing. The only redeeming factor was the keema rice but for a £45 meal you really do expect better quality. Will avoid in the fu

Best curry in shildon in my opinion, still has room for improvement. Madras is lovely but has a lasting taste like no other I’ve ever had and I cannot put my finger on what it is, but it’s not in a positive way, not enough to ruin the dish though. Don’t like the fact they do thin chips/fries either. Maybe that’s my fault for expecting Indian chips. 7/10

Once again fantastic Phal curry with all the extras, rice , bread , chips , pickle tray poppadoms. Turned up early and food still piping hot . A very polegetic driver saying sorry its early . Doesn't bother me at all . EXCELLENT WELL RAN BUSINESS . 10/10 CLASS FOOD. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 5 STARS FOR ME !!

the steak was extremely fatty and tiny the chips were full of grease and the lamb chops were mostly bone and the tiny and I mean tiny little bit of lamb was disgusting, I would have to really really think about ever ordering again from here

My food arrived 1 hour late and the chips were cold and hard , we also didn’t recieve salad or mint sauce with the onion bagjis very disappointed and we paid extra for more mint sauce which didn’t arrive

One of the best Indians I’ve had in such a long time, came for a weekend away with my boyfriend and went for a last minute meal. Service was excellent and the food was amazing. Portions are absolutely huge and well worth the money. We had to take out due to leavint so much. Will 100% return due to how amazing the food was and excellent service. Cannot recommend enough :) 10 out of 10

We went last night for the first time based on online reviews, we weren't disappointed!! The food was amazing, portions were quite big so we brought a good amount home too. We had the restaurant to ourselves, not sure why it was empty when the food is so good. The guy serving us could not have been more helpful, really nice humble guy. We'll definitely be going back!!!

Had food from here before and it was ok. But the food tonight was so over salted it was inedible and went in the bin, the only thing we could eat was the bread. Very very disappointing.

Food was 45 minutes late and freezing cold by the time it got to us. I had rang the shop and he blamed the delivery driver for it being so late. Chicken tikka was spicy and the chicken korma was bland and tasteless.

We were the only people in the whole restaurant the night we went, looks like they are part way through a refit and not quite finished. The main thing was the food was lovely. They were very short staffed but looking forward to going again and it hopefully looking abit more finished but just needs a few little things doing.

Food was lovely. Shame about chicken tikka all leaked out the foil tray. By the time it arrived bottom of carrier bag was swimming with tikka sauce and nothing left in the tray apart from chicken. Disappointing when you pay nearly £40 for a takeaway

I had a takeaway from here and it was delicious! I had a prawn korma, tadka dhall and sag bhaji and they were some of the most tasty I've tried. Really good flavours. The man who served me was friendly. The food was ready in time and very hot.

I went here a few years ago and gave the restaurant four stars. Having returned, recently, I am dropping my review to two stars. When I called to make a reservation, the gentleman answering the phone straight up asked me if I was actually going to turn up. This immediately put me off. I understand that some places have problems with customers booking and then failing to show up, but there are probably politer ways to speak to people making a booking. When we got there, the gentleman who greeted us seemed to be the same man as answered the phone. He was very friendly and polite, and everything seemed fine. I remembered that the last time I visited, the Vindaloo wasn't particularly hot, so this time I tried ordering the Phal, which should have been considerably spicier. I have had Phals in other restaurants and they are normally at just about the upper limit of my tolerance/enjoyment. Sadly, Spice Island's Phall wasn't noticeably hotter than their rather timid Vindaloo. My sons both had tasty curries (deliberately mild, as they don't like very spicy food), and I couldn't argue with the portion sizes, price or flavour. When I mentioned the lack of heat in the Phal to the manager (the only person working front-of-house), he replied that he had given me something relatively mild because he wasn't sure if I could really handle spicy food. This on its own limits the place to two stars. There is a distinct lack of trust from the management towards customers. Two days later, we ordered curries for delivery. Mostly the same items, but with one of our Vindaloos switched to a second Phal. Again, the Phals just weren't particularly spicy, despite our insistence, on the phone, that yes, we really did want spicy food. I have no idea if Spice Island is actually capable of serving really spicy food, as I have never had any from there. I can say that their food is flavourful and generously portioned for the price. The restaurant is cleaner than the last time we visited, with no lingering smell of cigarette smoke in the toilets anymore. The management, however, is off-putting and I am not sure if I would bother trying for spicy dishes for a fourth time.

I ordered a starter which I didn’t get. I ordered a plain Nan and not sure what was sent as it had a flat piece of meat in it. Didn’t receive the Madras I ordered and couldn’t say what the curry was.

The best by far for takeaways. We have tried many others in the area but none were as good as as Spice Island so we will stick to this place in future. Nice to find a restaurant that uses fresh vegetables in their curries! Always beautifully cooked and not too oily, the menu offers a good choice for vegetarians and vegans

Well, what can we say. I never leave reviews, but this warrants it to warn others. We were passing through and met with a relative who had moved in locally and went looking for a curry. After being refused entry in another curry house being a 5 person party. We found this place. Alarm bells immediately as only 2 people sitting in on Saturday night with 20ish tables empty. The waitress had to go and ask someone if it was ok if we sat in, which was agreed. But we were so hungry after our very busy day. I had veg pakora for starters. Never seen them in sausage form before and was made clearly from frozen. Then our mains came out. OMG HORRENDOUS! Apparently chicken, though nobody ate it, as it tasted and smelt funny. The sauce was slimy and was knee deep in Ghee and was revolting! Unpalatable. Also they served a vegetarian a vegetable rice with fish in it!!! Charged £150 for the privilege. Reluctantly paid as not to embarrass my relative we were visiting. Nothing else to say other than ..... I have no idea where the positive reviews have come from. I suspect foul play. Horrendous!

Tastiest curry I've had in ages, really good portion size too and especially loved it as do my favourite curry which not many places do. Only thing is missed the mint sauce but not worth losing a star over as the rest was so good! Found our new takeaway

Very late delivery. Nearly 3 hours for a delivery is ridiculous. When food got here, all of the packaging was coated in oil. Curry was lovely but tandoori kebab was very dry and prawns smelt terrible. Devastated as we usually eat in here and it’s always lovely but the takeaway was very disappointing.

Absolutely fantastic. Hospitality was genuinely the best i’ve ever received, me and my wife came late and night and we were treated with so much genuine care and compassion. Food was amazing too, the dhansak is my favorite dish and these guys did not fail!!
