First time visit after it was recommended to me. The place itself is lovely decor is great . Wee waited a long time for our food which was awful the park full of fat potatoes were cold and the smallest potion I have ever had. My daughter paid !£43 for steak which was awful . Party of 8 no one liked their food . Very poor would not go back very dissapointed

2022 visit. Produce driven is fab'. It's where "then" comes up like an onion soup burp, and makes its place in the "now". Speaking of now, there's nothing more "post covid staff shortage" than an added service charge. This gives the resto the room to spend your money on the produce driven part of the experience. So you help out with paying to get the magic to the table. Sadly, most of this magic lies elsewhere. Produce driven requires someone in the place to put Produce first. The mealy salad elements and supermarket "reduced for quick sale" greens start of the sadness. The roasted roots side features one wonderful roast onion half, adjoined by sad and oven averse compadres. It's a sad affair. Sadder still is the cauliflower. Juicy is not what we want from cauliflower unless you loathe its flavour. The chic peas come as a side and die in a pool of insipid tomato. Billed as a whisky bar is odd, as 2 of our choices have evaporated. The service is barely functional, but this isn't where the biggest issues lie. There's a lot of fashion in the fit out, though ventilation is poor. It's whomever is buying and processing the produce that is the problem.

I enjoyed a speedy dinner at Bothy this week and it did not disappoint. I was staying at One Devonshire Gardens a nearby hotel, and found the restaurant on a review site. I wanted a local eatery and it fitted the bill perfectly. The place has a busy atmosphere and it's clearly a local haunt. The menu was varied and drinks were excellent. The service was pretty attentive and it has the feeling of a gastro pub with its comfy sofa dining and it also has a lovely private dining room upstairs. Unfortunately, on this occasion I was unable to enjoy my usual choices due to dietary restrictions but the vegetarian options were still tasty. I ordered roasted cauliflower to start and gnocchi for the main-course (although I wasn't fresh homemade pasta) it was served with mushrooms and a cheese cream sauce. I also had a G&T and the bill came to just under £50. I'm looking forward to taking friends and clients there later in the year.

Always had great experience at the Bothy but not great this time. There was a few issues. 1. The place was mostly empty and they still managed to get my drink order wrong, I totally understand when waiting staff are under pressure (I’ve waited tables myself so can empathise) but when it’s quiet they really should be able to do this. 2. When drinks arrived one got spilled over one of us. The waiter didn’t apologise, didn’t offer a tissue etc…just walked away. I went to the bar and asked for tissue etc and it never came. Ended up asking again and finally they gave us some 3. I asked for a side order with my meal (side order didn’t arrive, I had to chase them for it). Again I don’t want to be harsh but the place was quiet, I can totally understand things like this when the place is mobbed, but when the place is quiet the service should be good. 3. Had sticky toffee pudding for dessert…..oh man it was rock hard, not great at all. In summary it wasn’t the worst, but the bothy isn’t cheap, the steak I got was £43….when something isn’t cheap you expect a level of service and it was far from good. I imagine staff training is the issue as the waiting staff were the biggest issue, management really should help/train them/support them…..as let’s face it if you are a waiter and you spill a drink on someone and don’t even offer some tissue to dry them then it means management obviously haven’t gave them sufficient training or a level of competency to work to.

When we went to the Bothy, it was quiet as it was midafternoon none the less the staff were pleasant and knowledgeable. The interior is eclectic with a mix of tables and chairs and very well kept. The toilets were very clean and nicely decorated (sorry, I have a thing about toilets, there's no point being a lovely restaurant and the toilets discusseding). The food we had was wonderful, well presented and hot. The next time we visit, we'll try and make it for the evening.

Only passing through for one night it was important that we found the perfect restaurant serving a range of traditional dishes and The Bothy exceeded our expectations. A good variety of wines all reasonably priced without excessive corkage fees, all the staff are really friendly and the food was outstanding whilst still being reasonably priced. We will definitely return if in the area again and would highly recommend, thanks for a great evening.

Spectacular experience. They were so enthusiastic about switching over to a brand new menu I felt bad for asking for a dish from essentially the day before. They were happy to accommodate though, and were overall just amazing, from great martinis to awesome wine pairing suggestions. The food was not just delicious but obviously carefully prepared. Definitely one of the great Glasgow restaurants.

We had a school reunion for 21 with pre-dinner drinks and a three course meal with wines on Friday night and the staff at The Bothy could not have been more helpful both with the pre-event arrangements and on the night itself. Their organisation, assistance and communications beforehand smoothed the way to what was a memorable night. The on-line system, which enabled each person to select their meal from the excellent Kelvin menu, worked perfectly and saved the organisers of the reunion considerable time and grief. The accurate delivery of each person's choice to the table was impressive as was the attitude and tolerance of each staff member as the night grew long! Well done to the whole team.

My wife and I visited again last Sunday. Everything was fine but when we got home we noticed that we had been charged an additional 2 quid as my wife had the temerity to ask for a little more gravy to go with her roast dinner. We spent well over £150 but obviously the Bothy's need for our money outweighs any other considerations.

The venue and location is impressive but there’s more flavour in the decor than the food. The knives either need to be sharpened or the kitchen needs to learn how to make pork tender loin, tender. The food was hit and miss and the Yorkshire pudding had more crisp than burnt toast.

Busy day on Sunday 22nd of December. We were there for my dad's birthday and the famous roast beef Sunday roast. Service and food was outstanding. The roast potatoes were sublime as was the roast beef but the star of the show was the beef gravy, thick and rich like Donald Trump. Controversial with the Yorkshire pudding, but we shall let it slide. Old Scottish countryside feel inside, decor and ambience befitting the old building housing the restaurant right next to Byres road. A warm and cosy place busy with punters enjoying an extensive drinks menu and outstanding Scottish cuisine. Tell yer pals, get to The Bothy.

I took an American friend who is a real foodie to Bothy for dinner thinking we are guaranteed a good food but what a disappointment, I was so embarrassed, the starter of scallops was OK but very small but my god our main was a disaster, my friend had pheasant which was so dry and absolutely tasteless that the poor soul hardly touched his dinner and my Venison was so chewy and also cold...... It was disgusting.... mains were served with a side mash which was the most horrible thing in planet, my friend was convinced it was from a packet, it was like glue, yukkkk..... The waiter who took our dinner plates away saw that the majority dinner was still on the plate, didn't even bother to ask if was dinner was OK, and just took the plates away, I wanted to complain but my friend stopped me, and told me let's just leave. Considering that bothy isn't a cheap restaurant, you would expect to have a decent food, but what a disappointment, would never go back there even if they pay me.

I travel solo. And I like to eat! In Edinburgh at The Kitchin and in Inverness at the River House, i enjoyed a wonderfully sited table where I could people watch and see the choreography of the staff in production of the entertainment of dining. The dane for other “lesser” restaurants. At the Bothy I was put in a “passageway”, nowhere near other diners, but lots and lots of waitstaff rumbling by my table, the only table in this passage between two dining rooms. My service was perfunctory and spotty. I felt like an afterthought. Maybe not a place for choreography, but not a place for solo diners either. I generally tip well, but not here.

We booked the Sunday roast lunch, but not sure we would return here. The food was mediocre - there was oil standing in the bottom of the Yorkshire pudding, the meat was chewy and the potatoes had a weird texture, as if they weren’t made from fresh potatoes. Lastly, they gave us a table in the back of the restaurant at not a very nice spot, despite us having booked the lunch a week in advance. If you are booking in advance and never visited before - definitely ask for a table at the front of the restaurant!

This place came recommended by an acquaintance, but it ended up being a major disappointment. Dinner menu was bland and unimaginative - we had chicken supreme, sea bass and buffalo mozzarella. we went based on the rating after the graduation of a good friend to Bothy. Based on the first impression, we had some high expectations maybe. Looking at the rather limited lunch option I went for the burger. so the easy lunch, but again a good restaurant proof quality preparing simple things good. the uuuhhh we are fancy and put brie on top doesnt help if you use a cheap meat patty which has the consistency of a snow tire. Service was quick and friendly, its also kind of nice inside, I just dont like the tables in front of the entrance door, and everybody coming in is walking around me. I really did enjoy the shandy...

A family lunch presented a welcome opportunity to visit Bothy. It is held in high regard for its Scottish cuisine and somewhat decadent interior. A niche I very much enjoy. Firstly the venue is nicely curated with lots of wood, mood lighting, tartans and curious artefacts. It’s upmarket but not in a stifling way. With a large group we were able to take a fairly large sweep of the menu. From risotto, lamb, fish and chicken everything was beautifully cooked and presented. Sides of triple cooked chips and broccoli with sriracha were not just an afterthought and tasted fantastic. Maybe not the heartiest of portions but the quality was there with aplomb. Top marks. My only bug bear would be the service. It’s a personal dislike to have numerous different waiting staff. Understandable at times when it’s very busy but on a fairly steady afternoon service it felt less personal to have numerous unnamed staff helping throughout the meal. But I’m also sure others would be less perturbed. All in all Bothy offers top class cooking at a moderate price level in comfortable surroundings. If I was to return it would be an evening service and maybe kept to a special occasion but with happy patrons on this visit it’s doing the important things right.

It is a good, pretty and cheap restaurant that I haven't enjoyed in days. We went with my son because a colleague had recommended it to him. What success! They have a well-priced menu and a reasonable menu. The wine was somewhat expensive but delicious. We shared a delicate and very well presented Haggis. Each one ordered a starter and a main. I opted for a salmon (rillette) and a saithe (grilled); The first was a feast of flavors and the second allowed me to taste quality fish. We shared two desserts: a toffee pudding that filled you with flavor but overshadowed by a nut tartlet that took your hiccups away. And the best: all in an endearing environment, decorated with exquisite taste, and served by professionals who made you feel special. In short: highly recommended.

The roast beef was tough, gravy gelatinous, roast potatoes soft instead of crispy, veg overdone and the Yorkshire puddings were raw in the centre. There’s no excuse and frankly I can’t believe they’re getting any with it, for the £30 paid you can go to Gaucho or Porter & Rye and get change for an infinitely superior roast.
