Excellent in every way! We ate here 4 times in 4 days, 2 lunches and 2 evening meals. Good is fresh, delicious and decent portion sizes. The “Specials” truly live up to their name. Particular highlights included mussels in white wine sauce, haddock goujons and the brisket. 3 of us are coeliac and they provided us with an allergens menu. They had run out of GF bread/rolls some days but kindly allowed us to use our own. Service was friendly and staff happy to answer/clarify and queries we had. Small wine list with lovely choices to suit the cuisine. Highly recommended!

We were on an overnight stay at the campsite and booked a table for 5.30 at Bootleggers. We’ve had takeaways over the years but this was our first sit in meal. We were not disappointed at all. We arrived 30 minutes early and were promptly seated at the table allocated. We chose drinks before the server came back to ask if we were ready to order. I chose the baby rack of ribs with chilli slaw and chips. My husband chose belly pork with crushed tatties and chilli slaw. What a feed. Large portions, much more than I expected. The food was amazing. It was the best ribs I’ve had to date. There was loads of meat in them. Once we had finished, the server quickly came back and asked if we would like dessert. We both chose sticky toffee pudding. It was the best we’ve ever had. Very moist, and the buttery sticky toffee sauce was amazing. We had two pints of lager each and we shared a bottle of red wine. The service was outstanding. Staff checked up on us and made sure we were attended to. All staff were very friendly. We had been in earlier in the afternoon with friends for coffee and the service was great then too. We will definitely be eating in Bootleggers again.

Just been to Bootleggers tonight and had a lovely meal. The service was great especially Annabelle who went out of her way to explain the menu. The meal was lovely as was the dessert, service exceptional. Will be back.

Went for a family evening meal. Food seemed generally ok (not good, just ok). But took a very long time to arrive and wasn’t hot – actually quite tepid – by the time it arrived. Service was ok-ish at first, but appalling later. We were in the upstairs area, and NO waiting staff came upstairs for the 45 minutes after we’d finished our meals. So nobody to ask for more drinks, or for desserts – or even to ask for the bill (as we gave up on the idea of drinks/desserts after 30 minutes). Won’t be going back there again.

I wasn't sure about ordering from a van having had absolute rubbish at Roseisle but I hung about looking at what others had ordered and decided it looked tasty . I have to say the haddock and chips were the best I've had in years, and I mean literally years, the fish melted in the mouth, the batter was light and crispy, the peas tasted home grown, the chips were also good, it was all absolutely delicious. I would definitely return, only trouble is I'd want the fish n chips and also to try the rest of the interesting menu! It was fabulous.

I’m up from Sussex to visit famiky and Bootleggers was recommended, with none of us having been before. The location is stunning. Difficult to beat really. We went yesterday, on a rare gloriously sunny weekend, we had t booked but the staff were very accommodating at finding space for us. The food was scrummy. Very good quality and the portions were absolutely fine. We didn’t need dessert because we were full from the mains and sides. The Chios were delicious but the cod goujons , burger and brisket all enjoyed. The crushed tatties were delicious!! The service was excellent. We didn’t feel the food took too long considering how busy it was and the staff apologised. If you want it fresh, you need to be prepared to wait a bit. Whilst certainly not cheap, for the quality and location, it’s reasonable value. Seems to be a lot o f whingers leaving reviews.

After great experience last year, what a disappointing visit. Seafood chowder was ratatouille with potatoes , 4 mussels and 3 prawns in tiny bowl. For £11.50 ! My wife’s Piri Piri Prawns also starter size with about 8 prawns. At £14! The sauce looked suspiciously like what was lying in the foot of my soup bowl raising an inference where the prawns in my soup came from! Come on guys .. read similar crushing recent reviews and have a talk to yourselves.

We were looking forward to eating here after being recommended by two of our friends. Firstly, nowhere does it say that there's a 10 minutes walk to the restaurant. Not a real problem for us as it was a glorious evening, but had it been raining, it would've been a different start to the meal. The menu looked good and there was a large choice of specials, but strangely only one choice of red or white by the glass. My first gripe is the portion sizes. The only places that can get away with serving small portions at the price Bootleggers are asking have Michelin stars, and I'm sorry to say that whilst the food was ok, it was just that, ok. Let's talk about the service. My pet hate is uncleared dishes, no excuses. We sacked deserts and drove into lossiemouth for a (much cheaper) ice-cream instead.

We arrived as a group of friends with our young kids. The food was very over priced and poor quality, I could have cooked better myself.. The service was poor, for example our dirty plates sat on the table until we left. Even though the waiting staff were chatting by the bar. It’s ashame as it’s a lovely location but i wouldn’t return back!

We had travelled one and a half hours for our dinner reservation for my mum’s 60th birthday. I had eaten here previously at a 7pm dinner reservation and asked whether dogs were allowed as we were thinking of booking for my mums birthday, we were told that this would be fine and actually saw two families eating with dogs that evening! When we arrived at the restaurant today, we were turned away at the door due to bringing our elderly dog. We explained that this is not what was advertised, but were met with an unsympathetic response, no attempt was made to find out from the manager and it was a freezing day so we couldn’t eat outside. Absolutely no effort was made to try and resolve our situation or even a simple ‘sorry’ and was just met with the response that ‘we have never allowed dogs past 5pm so I don’t know why they told you that’. A bit of empathy would have gone a long way.

We were visiting this gem at 1530. Really lovely place and will be back. It is very relaxing in the sun. We had a sea bass special, slaw and my wife had beetroot and goats cheese salad with a side of chips. We shared our dishes and they were very fresh and delicious.

This place has stopped doing food outside. We were a bit puzzled as to why they have decided to throw away a massive portion of their business. We have eaten here outside many times before and have always enjoyed the amazing views of the Moray Coast with our dog. This doesn't seem to be an option anymore which is a massive shame. Unfortunately we won't be visiting again until this strange policy is reversed.

I was delighted to see that Bootleggers had reopened. Nothing has changed from last year, thank goodness. Friendly staff, good service, a superb location, a varied menu plus specials board, and most importantly, a very enjoyable meal. Prices are on the expensive side, but I don't mind paying when the food was as good as it was. I will be back to Bootleggers again before the summer is out.

Lovely position and decor but the portion of chowder was ridiculous for a main course. More like a starter - kids' meals were bigger. Too expensive.

Venue back open a week after being closed for the season. Number of issues experienced: 1. Cleanliness - Would you not have thought that after a seasonal closure that some deep cleaning would have taken place. Dust in doors and light fittings. Generally unclean throughout. 2. Waited 25 mins for water and a soft drink. Other customers complaining and member of staff uttered ‘oh f*k off’. 3. Ordered food others who ordered after us food brought out beforehand. Table was booked and currently waiting 45 mins for a burger. No explanation about the wait etc.. When it arrived I bit into it and liquid poured out.. resulting in the other half of the burger becoming very soggy and unable to pick it up. Chips tasteless and undercooked in middle Overall overpriced food. We haven’t even got into the season proper yet…. God help them in full season! Such a shame as the location is stunning.

This is a fabulous place hidden away in a caravan site in Hopeman but it's definitely worth persevering to find it. The coastal position has great sea views and the modern decor provides a fantastic ambience. For a recent, modern construction it has bags of character and atmosphere with great attention to detail from the lighting and wall hangings to the cosy fire and beautiful glassware. We had a few drinks here late afternoon/ early evening and I would thoroughly recommend it. We didn't eat but the food we saw looked delicious.

This place is a must to visit, stunning location with amazing views and delicious food. Staff are friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble. Good selection on both menus we dined inside and upstairs so we could really enjoy the views. My husband had the chicken with a side of bbq sauce which he really enjoyed and I had the sea bass which was also delicious. We can also recommend the crabby fries and parfait. We can’t wait to go back. Keep up the good work.

This was our second visit to Bootleggers and again, we were not disappointed. A lovely two storey restaurant with outdoor dining should you wish it. Fantastic views over the Moray Firth. The menu was just that little bit different from other local Eateries, plus there was a Specials Board. Prices were not cheap but acceptable. Friendly staff and quick service despite the restaurant being very busy and, most importantly, our meals were delicious. Our visit was on a Sunday afternoon, and live music added to a fantastic atmosphere. It was a beautiful afternoon, and we grabbed a picnic table and stayed for a drink or three outside the restaurant. The only criticism I have is that for folk with any disablement issue, there is no parking near the restaurant, which is located within the Caravan Park. The nearest parking is at the harbour and on a nice weekend this can be problematic due to the volume of cars and limited parking availability

visited here on sunny day in Moray, although the restaurant wasn’t busy we sat for 15mins for someone to take our order before we had to go to bar and ask. limited menu and found it very strange that burgers/steaks etc didn’t come with fries so you pay another £4 for the privilege! burger was sad to say the least, 2 of our party had the chowder and the brisket (which was a decent portion size) they said these were delicious. BBQ pizza was tasty too. no parking outside the venue as it’s at the other end of the caravan park so bear this in mind. won’t be rushing back if i’m the area again.

Bootleggers has a great location overlooking the Moray Firth, with a small dining room upstairs (and a terrace that wasn't in use on a wet blustery day). The food was pleasant, but some of the main portions were unbalanced - so a small bowl of chowder came with two large slices of focaccia bread, and wasn't very good value (it was really a starter sized portion sold as a main dish), although the mussels in tomato sauce with chips and a single focaccia slice made more sense. However the mussels could have done with more sauce, which felt a little bit like "let's throw a tin of chopped tomatoes over the mussels and see what happens". The garden side salad was less than 50p worth of leaves with a little French dressing, sold for £6 - this needs to be thought about, although sides are notoriously difficult to price. Drinks were reasonably priced. Desserts, of which there were only three on the menu, were disappointing. the sticky toffee pudding was fine, but could have done with more toffee sauce. A seasonal fruit crumble was, quite frankly, weird - a little fruit compote in a pastry case with something crumbled over the top - its saving grace was the scoop of salted caramel ice cream.

We went in for a drink only and bumped into a friend. We were then joined by another friend and were having drinks. About 2245hrs we were very abruptly told to drink up or they would take our drinks from us, as last orders had been called earlier. we had been provided a round about 2230hrs and were the only people left. Their stated opening hours say closing at 2300hrs. Perhaps a little better communication from the 'apparently senior staff member' may have prevented our leaving feeling so disgruntled and demonstrated they understand the meaning of hospitality. The result was one of our group stating they would not return. Communication is everything
