Lovely lunch for my daughter’s birthday. all vegan. The chicken skewers, dirty rice and chicken bahn mi were delicious. Friendly service. Good cocktails!

Went to bonsai plant kitchen today for lunch for the first time ever and I have to say it was literally amazing! Not only was the food incredible (best ramen I’ve ever had) but the cocktails were the most delicious and creative I’ve had in a long time. We were severed by the lovely bar manager who really made the whole experience just incredible. The stand outs were the picante margarita and the plum smokey old fashioned. WOW can’t recommend this place enough !!! 10/10 can’t wait to go for dinner.

food was all way too spicy, atmosphere was loud and food was outrageously overpriced. the food was good but not worth that kind of money. good vegan spot. Can recommend the tofu and crispy kale! Went with a coeliac and there were many gluten free options too.

Fantastic food and friendly service. I'd like to make one suggestion, please turn the music down a little. Having to shout to make yourself heard at a pub is expected but at a restaurant, particularly one like this (not fast food) is a little uncomfortable. Thank you.

Exceptional. Honestly, I was one of those who was critical of vegan restaurants that referred to items as chicken this or lamb that, I stand corrected. Here, it sets expectations about what you are likely to receive from some extremely talented chefs, delivered by knowledgeable and friendly staff. You need roughly 3 plates per person, 4 if hungry. We will be back. Put this one firmly on your to do list!

Really delicious food - I've had some mediocre experiences lately with small-plates restaurants, but Bonsai Plant Kitchen is great. Highlights definitely the grilled napa cabbage, the "pork" spring rolls and the "chicken" skewers. A bit less keen on the mapo tofu stew (a weird choice for a sharing dish) and the sweet potato skewers (the chunks of potato were a bit too big and dry), but these are minor quibbles - both dishes were ultimately still very nice. Service speedy and pleasant.

I've eaten here twice for the lunchtime special, and each time the food has been INCREDIBLE. Even though the space is small, the staff have been able to accommodate my baby buggy both times and I've not been made to feel like an inconvenience, which is greatly appreciated!

I visited their restaurant over the weekend and the atmosphere, service and food was 10/10. My partner who isn't vegan loved the food and insists we go back soon. Our favourites were the "pork" spring rolls, the mapo tofu stew and the Japanese sweet potato skewers .

Having seen the brilliant reviews I was keen to eat here, although I had a little trepidation due to not being vegan. I can honestly say that you do not notice that the meat is missing, and that is no exaggeration. We had a selection of dishes, from cauliflower, to 'pork' spring rolls, and dirty rice, amongst others, and all were absolutely delicious. My favourite had to be the spring rolls as these were incredibly moreish. The food arrived quickly, and the ingredients were all really good quality. Good service from the waitress too. I would recommend this to anyone and cannot wait to visit again.

Amazing vegan food! Great staff. Beautiful menu. Even non-vegan parents loved it. It’s a little hectic in there in evenings with lights and music, some people in our party found it a little overwhelming. But I liked the vibes

It's so good that a place like this exists - great for the planet, for animals and health. Pretty tasty too - an imaginative variety of vegan substituted Asian foods. Quite nice inside decor on a grungy street. Service was patchy: great to start with and then required wild gesticulating to get anyone attention as it got busier with only 2 people serving. We did have a cocktail and a sake with the recommended 5 to 7 small dishes between the 2 of us, plus shared a dessert with coffee and tea and it came to over £90 which seems pretty steep. I'm happy to pay more for an ethically wise choice but this would be too much to make it any kind of regular trip. There did seem to be a cheaper, but less interesting set lunch menu that we didn't have.

The food is great, but they forgot part of our order, so we had to leave before it came because of the time slot and they put it in a bag to take home…..

Amazing food, excellent staff and a very reasonable bill.

Bonsai is very 'on trend'. Cool, funky and modern. The food was good, and the service attentive (in a style i find rather intense / think American). I was excited to go here, as a surprise for my husband for Valentines. He has been vegan for many years. But in honesty we were a bit disappointed 😞 I found the flavours of the food all pretty similar; sweet, spicy and very salty. Don't go here if you have high blood pressure, both for the salt content and the bill! Overall, good - but unlikely to be back all things considered.

BEST VEGAN FOOD IVE EVER HAD! Sadly, this place is not very wheelchair accessible- very narrow doorway and small inside. Be aware that if you are going to book here, I would advise that you ask if there would be another wheelchair user coming on the same evening in which case book on a different day. The tables are not wheelchair accessible either, but they are going to change this in the future 💓 There is no wheelchair accessible toilet here. However please be nice to the staff and the restaurant- They are very aware of how inaccessible they are, but most of the establishments on this road are not accessible due to the fact that it's a very old road. Apart from that very good service and extremely good food! We went here for our valentines dinner and we loved it. Big thank you to the staff for being accommodating.

Good and inventive small plates of vegetarian food, Japanese and Asian style. A range of different flavours and options. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. I also liked the toilets a lot, gender neutral, nice decoration and slimming mirror which is always good! 😄

Pretty much the best vegan food you can get anywhere, absolutely incredible flavours and textures, perfectly presented, very friendly, cheerful and polite staff. The space has great atmosphere, an excellent place for a special meal. Drinks are also superb. Would strongly recommend the aubergine which is possibly the best cooked aubergine I have ever eaten. Not the cheapest but definitely worth it.

For someone that isn't vegan. This is some of the best food I've ever had! Everything was full of flavour and the tapas style means you can try bits and it doesn't go to waste if it's not to your taste. Things coming when their ready can mean a wait between dishes.

Food was lovely - very highly flavoured but pricey for such small portions. We had the table booked to 7:30pm but felt repeatedly hassled and rushed by 6:50 by the waiter to finish which we were not best pleased with and felt this marred our enjoyment of the experience somewhat. Was really looking to trying this highly rated vegan experience, especially as so rarely eat out. I would come back when I'm feeling flush and I hope it will feel more relaxed.

Wow- first time at this restaurant and couldn’t recommend it more, atmosphere was lively and the service was delightful! The star dishes of the night were the napa cabbage, cauliflower, and to finish the chai crème caramel! Give it a try if you’re in town but definitely book in advance! Attracted by a ***** review in The Guardian and just a five minute stroll from my front door, my partner and I booked early dinner to celebrate her birthday. Just… wow! Neither of us are vegans but the food sensationally lacked for nothing in flavour, inventiveness and presentation. Highlights included tempura “sea bass”, and skewered Mongolian “lamb” fully living up to the promise of its name check by The Beatles in What’s The New Mary Jane. And the cocktails! Conjured from the brain of our charming maitre d’, Raju, the gin basil smash is the most refreshing sharpener you’ll ever down, and the vegan butterscotch vodka shot is highly recommended by way of an alternative to a regular dessert. Absolutely brilliant in every respect — no wonder you have to book well ahead!

The food is fantastic, but given the size of the portions - still pretty pricey. For what you’re paying, the service and atmosphere are a tad underwhelming. In a small room with very few tables, we were left waiting for about 10/15 minutes before anyone came to our table. I personally wasn’t too fond of the decor or the music, either. As for drinks, it’s inconvenient not to be able to buy wine by the bottle, the cocktail range is slim pickings and the bar could do with a makeover. Likewise, the bathroom may as well have been outside it was that cold/miserable, and the table we were sitting at was noticeably sticky. Again, when you’re charging 10 pounds a small plate, these are things to consider re dining experience. But the food, the food! The seabream, oyster mushrooms and vegan chicken bun were absolutely delicious - undoubtedly among the tastiest vegan dishes I’ve ever tried and well worth the price. Likewise, the little creamy dessert was a real treat. Would probably recommend it as an evening out just for those dishes alone, but with the above caveats in mind. Hope to go back at some point when money is less of an object.

Went through the majority of the menu with my vegetarian nephew and thoroughly enjoyed every single dish. Confession, I am not a vegetarian but found the sea Bream so convincing I would have argued it was fish. Perfect adaptation of flavours, I would come back once a week if I lived here. Hats off to the chef and the staff, make sure to reserve a table, they will be very popular!

Amazing food. So much flavour and so many different great dishes. Desert was equally as tasty. The creme brulee was delicious. Highly recommended

Other than the odd burger bun dish, Bành Mì Slider, it's amazing food, the burger was nice but really didn't fit with the other dishes and, tbh, we were expecting something more like a steamed bun. All of the dishes are very strongly flavoured, which is great. Though, for my taste, I like something as a contrast like some salad or rice - the Dirty rice is lovely, but also strongly flavoured. This is all possibly our choice error in our overall pick, and I'll defo go again and get a salady dish to replace one of the others. Friendly, helpful staff.

Bonsai plant kitchen is innovative, stylish, delicious and relaxed. It’s style AND substance. The venue is tucked away just off of London Road and it stands out for its brilliance. The atmosphere in the restaurant is like entering a home, the waiting style friendly, approachable, smart and swarve. We were taken care of by Raj a lovely and friendly waiter who helped us order the perfect amount of food. The candles, decor and lighting all creating the perfect mood for a lovely meal out with friends, family or a date night! The food was delicious, so many flavours and I brought friends who eat meat and they were amazed with how much they enjoyed it! Truely one of the best spots in Brighton for good vibes, lovely atmosphere and damn tasty food! I’m also doing dry January and the mocktail was out of this world ✨😋🫶🏽 I will 100% be returning and so should you!

Hands down the best vegan dining experience in 8 years and around 6 different countries eating plant based. Food is 10/10 on every level and flavour and texture. Service is 10/10. Blown away and will never eat dinner anywhere else when we visit Brighton. Thank you Bonsai for making my wife’s 39th bday the most memorable yet!!! my oh my, where to begin. bonsai is one of the absolute nicest restaurants ive been to in my entire life. food? gorgeous. drinks, stunning. service???? incredible!! i believe our servers were called raj (maybe im not entirely certain) and i didnt catch the other lovely persons name but both were so kind and fabulous. i had such a blast with my friends, we were raving constantly about the atmosphere and the overall vibe of this pleasant little place, hidden away in a little alley. truly, a hidden gem. thanks so much for such an excellent experience! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Highly recommend Bonsai for their great customer experience, food quality and atmosphere. I’ve been twice now and never been let down, with the second visit as good as the first! We went here for dinner on a rainy weekday evening. The place was fully booked, but they had a table in the back. If you intend on dining here, I'd recommend making a reservation in advance. They serve small plates. There were two of us and we ordered 6-7 dishes. The food was all very nice, and the service was great too.

As many have said, very tasty food but what a shame to we receive such shocking service. Came for my partner’s birthday, we don’t get out much anymore due to young children. The staff were unwelcoming, unfriendly and rude to the extent it affected our night. Maybe someone was having a bad day which I can empathise with but we felt a generally cold atmosphere and you don’t go to a restaurant for a special occasion and expect such rudeness!

Bonsai Plant Kitchen is such a welcome presence in Brighton because it is, without a doubt, some of the best plant-based food I have ever had. Each new dish is a unique sensation, and the tastes that are achieved are phenomenal; some of the 'mock' dishes defy explanation of how they have replicated particular flavours and textures. The setting is intimate, but not pretentious. The staff are so lovely and welcoming. I have been here more times than I can count because it is simply that good. If you live in or are visiting Brighton, do yourself a favour and check out Bonsai.

I can hardly describe how amazing the Japanese food here is. It's 100 vegan and still tasted better anything I can compare it to. The crisp kale, the tempura (vegan) and the roasted rice it's all incredibly delicious!

Well deserved super positive reviews! Very nice ambiance, super friendly staff, and most of all, the FOOD!!!! Everything we had was incredible, especially that Chicken Yakitori was better than any other I had in my life, including non vegan versions in Japan! Next time, I will oder 5 portions of that. Pork Spring Rolls from our neighbouring table looked amazing too - wanted to try that too but just didn’t have a room in our stomach. Bravo to the chef and everyone there! 👍

I've been looking forward to eating at Bonsai Plant Kitchen since it opened and finally bagged a table for an early Saturday night dinner. It was fantastic, probably the best meal I've had in Brighton. Four of us ordered 12 savoury dishes, two deserts and three non-alcoholic drinks, with the bill coming to £128 including service. Everything was delicious, including the drinks, and the service was impeccable - bonus points for bringing water to the table and keeping us all topped-up too. And despite being fully booked, I also appreciated having a six-seater high table for our party of four when some other places may have been tempted to seat another two at it. Will definitely return, thanks!

The most incredible Asian vegan food. The best restaurant in Brighton I’ve been to for a long time! The small plates were amazing, loved every mouthful. Really creative dishes and so refreshing to be 100% plants! Service was very good, the waiters were attentive. Only let down was being asked to leave immediately after finishing as there were more dinner guests due.

This is quite honestly the best restaurant I have ever been to! My husband and I absolutely love it here. The food, staff and environment are all excellent. I will continue to keep daydreaming about the food until our next visit!

would give more stars if i could :) been here a few times now for different birthdays and would recommend to any vegans / vegetarians in brighton as the food here is an asian fusion with stunning flavours and interesting small plates. we all shared a bunch of dishes including miso glazed aubergine which was a table favourite and the bahn mi sliders which were like bao buns. the service was spot on as everyone was super engaging and enjoyable to speak to!

Bonsai Plant Kitchen made my day. While I was stuck in the middle of a bout of Covid, one of the owners, Arlo went above and beyond to organise a surprise birthday cake for my daughter’s birthday meal at very, very short notice. Total commitment to birthday happiness and life-affirming niceness from Arlo, many many thanks! And I’m reliably informed that the food was top notch tasty. That’s every dish. And the cake. Booked private dining area for a birthday recently and really glad I chose this place. Everyone in the party agreed the food was top notch, even the meat eaters (it's all vegan-friendly). Cocktails were spot on and so was the vegan birthday cake we ordered. Can't wait to come back!

Three of us had lunch on a Saturday and had some exquisite food. Certainly not cheap, but the quality of every dish was outstanding. Be warned, most menu items are very spicy. Also, watch your step, the loos are virtually in darkness and I went into a cleaning cupboard by mistake! 😳

I think I've been here about 6 times now ... I still haven't, and can't imagine I will tire of it. Such creative, delicious food. Each dish tastes unique and you can tell there are layers of well thought out flavours in each. The chefs are geniuses! They add/ swap out things on the menu often enough, keeping things fresh and always keeping me excited to go back. Very cool cocktails, again, very individual and well thought out with such creative spins on each. Service is great every time, with knowledgable and friendly front of house peops. You can tell the chefs/owners love their food and what they do and that shows in all aspects of this place. I have brought so many non-vegans here and they have all been blown away. My favourite spot in Brighton! Such a breath of fresh (delicious) air.

We went to Bonsai for the second time yesterday. The food was great, but the service let it down. Considering the prices they need to up their game. I don't want to be critical but need to point some things out. Ordered sake. Was not asked if we wanted it hot or cold. We assumed would be served hot, as Ozeke Sake should be. It was cold. During the meal we were not asked how everything was, nor if we wanted to order more drinks. Asked for glass of lemonade, which never turned up. The service was not bad, i hasten to add, but should have been more attentive. One tip - if they tell you your tabl is the tall one in the middle then cancel your booking. You will get constantly bumped by the table behind you. Not comfortable. On the plus side the food is excellent and very inventive.

Finally got the chance to go here tonight and it was so lovely the food was incredible. One of the best meals out I’ve ever had. I can see why it’s always booked. We’re gonna come next month for our wedding anniversary it was that good. Our server was great very knowledgeable didn't catch their name (short blonde hair)

Firstly I'm not vegan, or even veggie, but all the dishes I had were super tasty. The menu is small yet perfectly formed and is split into small plates. I had the: Lychee Blossom Cocktail £11 Mix vegetable Gyoza, Szechuan chilli oil with crispy garlic £7 1/4. Hanoi “pork” spring roll, pickled apple £8 Tempura Sussex grown mushrooms, teriyaki and Japanese Mayo £8. Bonsai is a must-visit for any Asian food lover. Super tasty! 100% plants. Nut free kitchen. Can’t wait to visit again.

We have been here a few times now and the food is always consistent yet repeated ordering the same dishes we're still blown away. The service is great, chill, easy going but attentive. We have tried most of the usual suspects vegan food wise in Brighton and imo most are quite overrated and underwhelming. Looking forward to our next visit!

Absolutely amazing from start to finish ❤️ We had the best time at Bonsai Plant Kitchen, thanks to Arlo and their wonderful team. The ordering system of crossing off what you want on a paper menu is fun and it means you can keep track of your small plates so you know what’s left to come. Cocktails were delicious and had new flavour combinations, I loved the Black Passion Rum Punch. The Vietnamese Espresso Martini special was brilliant too. The food was out of this world, the corn, the gyozas, the spring rolls. The best for me was the sea bream- I couldn’t believe it wasn’t real fish. I am an avid meat eater and always have been, but the whole menu was so good, and somethings were such good replicas, you wouldn’t even know you weren’t eating meat. Amazing- can’t wait to come back ❤️

Visited with family, a mixture of pescatarian, vegetarian, vegan and a part- time carnivore. Received a very warm welcome and shown to our seats. Being a Friday evening it was busy. We were given a Korean style ordering sheet with which to make our selections. The sheet is returned when the order is bought to the table so you can tick off the dishes as you go along. We tried about 12 dishes . All were delicious. We were also offered a new menu item for free. The staff, although busy, were attentive and friendly throughout. It was nice to see the food being freshly prepared through the open kitchen and we given plenty of time to enjoy the food. All in all a very enjoyable evening and would not hesitate to return.

The food is great and small plates means constant variety. Tastes fresh and clean just as any good Japanese style food should. It's quick but carefully prepared and beyond tasty. Most importantly for us it's all vegan, totally recommend.

We came here to celebrate my mum's vegan-niversary (1 year of being vegan 😅) and it was AMAZING! It was so nice that mum was able to choose from everything on the menu for once - and the rest of us were blown away with the flavours and quality of the food. The service was great too - the team are delightful. Also loved the ordering system of ticking the items you want. We had a wonderful evening and it was a real testament to how well vegan food can be done 🤌 💯

I loved the food - not much to say except, yum it exceeded my hopes. The atmosphere was a little chilly which was Asian but nevertheless, chilly and spare. The service was okay, not amazing. One very nice server but she seemed to have too much to do. At these prices I expect more staff. The ordering mechanism idiosyncratic but bizarre and unnecessary. The price was right for the quality of the food but high for the location. Thank you, I’m coming back.

Delicious food, with lots of the crispy textures that vegans tend to miss out on, but spoiled a little by being ejected for the next booking. Between us we had the special of crispy kale (my favourite), the aubergine (melt in the mouth), the “Chicken”...

The food was fantastic, we ate well and tried different things. We had a mixed group of eaters, but everyone found something to eat. Good sized space, with a nice atmosphere. Only down side was the service, it felt like we were an inconvenience and any requests or questions were met with a no before the question was finished. I’ve been here twice so far with my boyfriend and we’ve now made it a tradition of ours to go whenever we get our student loan. The workers are always helpful and kind. Service is quick. There is not one dish on the menu that has left me disappointed. Everything we’ve had there is so scrumptious. And for how good the food is, the prices aren’t bad at all. We usually end up paying £20-25 each but we leave with our bellies full and happy. I recommend this restaurant to everyone, especially if you’re not vegan.

The food was fantastic, we ate well and tried different things. We had a mixed group of eaters, but everyone found something to eat. Good sized space, with a nice atmosphere. Only down side was the service, it felt like we were an inconvenience and any requests or questions were met with a no before the question was finished. Deserves an extra star! Atmosphere & customer service were great. All dishes we had were delicious. The flavours & attention to detail were off the charts, seriously good food. This place is awesome, thank you for a lovely evening!

Oh my days! The food here is amazing! Everything from scorched rice to the yakatori skewers, to those fantastic gyozas (see pic) is so flavorful. The team here are wonderful, so friendly and incredibly creative with their dishes and cocktails. Atmosphere is on point. Can't wait to come back.

Absolutely outstanding. Went here for dinner and from the get go, the staff were very friendly and efficient. Ordered a delicious cocktail which arrived swiftly. The food itself was just UN. REAL. Favourites were the 'pork' spring rolls and the tempura 'sea bream'. All of the flavours and textures were so well thought-out and beautifully put together. An honourable mention goes to the dirty rice, which honestly just left a huge smile on my face. Just give it a go - you will not be disappointed!

Absolutely mind blowing, trust the reviews and go eat here!!! Everything was perfect, texture, flavours, portion sizes, everything! Literally the best meal I have had this entire year, puts into perspective how versatile and delicious food can be. We got the “pork” spring rolls, salted “sea bream” and dirty rice. Absolutely phenomenal each on their own, as the dishes kept coming each was better and better! Please please please go here, it will be unforgettable!

Bonzai Plant Kitchen, I love you :) I almost don't want to write a review because then more people will go and it'll be even harder to get a a table at my favourite restaurant. I've eaten here 3 times since it opened and the quality has not dropped. Service is the right level of attentive but not too attentive, food is outstanding, I love the atmosphere and vibe, its just so good! (My only suggestion would be maybe some kombucha as an alcohol free option?)
