Bombay Tandoori Restaurant in Thurrock

Food was amazing as always. In particular the two speciality menus are always worth a look. I had the chicken sagwaala which is an incredible dish, very tasty, but not over spicy. Service was good. Never had a bad meal in here and been coming for 30 years.

Dunno why it’s rating is so low compared to other places nearby, always have a nice curry whether eaten in or taken away. Nice staff, great service and as good a curry as anywhere else nearby.

3 half hours late. I have refused order. I would like a refund. I call restaurant at 8. They said waiting for driver. He will be 15 minutes. Then turns up at 10.30.

We had a lovely meal here yesterday. Staff were very nice 😋 food was amazing. Great price. Best Indian food I have had 100% will be coming back soon

wow what £40 get you just had a mixed grill and chicken was dry and the kofte that was not cooked and the customer service was not there told to bring chicken back and he will change it

One of the better tasting chana curries I've tried , my food was actually packaged delivery. Only thing is the fried puri with it wasn't in a separate paper bag and so was sorta soggy as it was in the same container as the curry. Overall decent food shame the packaging decision let the quality decline.

We were so impressed with this Indian Restaurant. We went on Sunday evening. Staff were very polite and attentive. Food was delicious. We have been to many Indian restaurants and the food here was the best by far. We will definitely be returning.

Bombay Restuarant's atmosphere was good, clean and tidy. Staff were friendly and good. We ordered plain Naan. But we got butter naan with full of oil. Also we ordered butter chicken. The dish we got was like sugar added pumpkin curry. We couldn't eat it even. The dhal curry dish what we got average in taste. I have been so many indian restaurants in India and Sri Lanka. I know the real taste of Indian foods. But this is the worst Indian meal I ever had.

Delivered very quickly, but all the papadoms were not just broken, but smashed into crumbs. Called the restaurant, but they blame the courier driver stating the moment it is pass to the courier it is Just Eat's responsibily. It's not the first time I've had a problem and the restaurant passes the blame. The restaurant really couldn't care less. We eat in the Bombay regularly. I now couldn't care less about loyalty. There are plenty of other restaurants to eat in or take away.

Gone downhill over the years! I cannot believe how good this place used to be compared to how it is now. Every touch point was shocking, 3 hours for a meal for 4 . Even had to ask for a menu after an hour of sitting there. Had to keep going to the bar to get drinks etc. They did look short staffed so I was sympathetic but the service became diabolical, I have never had cold rice n and Indian now have I had cold onion baji’s. Even when we did finally get the bill we had to call back the waiter to pay, we asked twice if we were getting the usual free Baileys at the end to be told they would have to ask the owner… I saved my dignity and didn’t ask again. This is such a shame, I’ve been going to the restaurant for over 30 years but tonight they all seemed like headless chickens, terrible service and cold food!

I spent £38 pounds and was very disappointed. The prawns in the tandoori king prawn masala were not prawns. It was some other sea creature. Very rubbery. The tandoori chicken tasted like old meat. The saag also was 3 out of 10. The best thing on the plate. The cook has lost the love for cooking. I will look up on YouTube on how to make the dish and cook my own. Sorry about the not so good review.

Not been here for a few years as they deported the chef and it went down hill. Tonight we gave it another try. It is worse than it was before. The King prawn purie was the smallest prawns ever and just tasted of tomatoes. The rogan was as bland as hell, I’ve never had to add salt to an Indian but tonight I needed a lot just to give it any taste. Don’t waste your money because it far from reasonably priced!!!

We were both sorely disappointed and would not consider returning. The staff were not welcoming. They showed no care . When our dishes were served, he just plonked the plates down. The onion bhajis were not edible, they tasted of oil, so much so I spat mine into a tissue. My main was served warm and lacked any flavour. We both left the majority of our food behind, yet nobody asked if there was a problem. The staff lacked any care, charisma or consideration towards the customer. They only had about 20 per cent occupancy and I'm really not surprised. Very disappointed 😞😞

Extremely expensive Had dinner there tonight, with a friend, the only people in the restaurant, not even a takeaway whilst we were there. Extremely expensive was charged £18.90 for two martini and lemonade’s bearing in mind, a martini should be served as a standard 50 mL measure. They are counting this as a double I don’t even know if this is legal has martini should always be sold as a 50 mL measure, and the price is normally the same as a 25 mL measure of any other spirit. £70 bill for four drinks, two starters, one main one rice and one side I think is extremely expensive compared to other restaurants

Food and service was great, good value too. Was in a larger group and everyone's food arrived together, fresh and hot. Would definitely recommend and will return

Ordered a takeaway but a couple of items were missed off although they were confirmed on the order when collected. Very disappointed!

It's soo sad to see a once highly regarded restaurant turn into a dead pan place to visit. The service is appallingly slow, with waiters who had no charisma, conversation or care. We were there for 2 hours waiting for a main dish, all the while takeaway orders were flying out the door. We had to ask twice for a drink and 3 times for the bill and the restaurant was 2/3 empty! Clearly their focus is on online orders now whereas before you either had ti collect or eat in. They aren't cut out for both. The food was good, not wonderful as it was before covid. Before i would never go anywhere else for my indian, now i do not see the appeal in using the Bombay. They have nothing over any of the other local restaurants. Whoever the current owners are need to inject some life back into the place, or at best a waiter who isnt running takeaway orders over waiting tables. Very dissatisfied at the restaurant, i wont be rushing back any time soon.

Ordered £70 of food, driver turned up with a rice, curry and naan, we said it was wrong order - neither restaurant nor delivery will do anything. Delivery picture also shows a small bag being handed over. Won’t be using again. £70 out of pocket.

Believe they sent me the wrong curry as it is definitely not chicken although it is a biryani in there is absolutely no potatoes or vegetables in the curry whatsoever. It is just a brown burning hot runny sauce.

As above ,I have been coming here for 30 years with my wife, always welcome and great food, however there seems to be a change in the family or management running it, its just not the same, my wife ordered a vegetarian meal, which ended up being meat, not sure what meat, when questioned the waiter said they had given her the wrong meal, no apologies, no nothing, remember the old days when the drinks would have been free, or that meal. I miss the previous owners, we wont be coming back

I ordered the 3 variety sauces, 1 mint, 1 mango chutney & 1 onion salad. Instead I got 3 mango chutneys, 3 onion salads. Where was my mint sauce?? The poppadoms were crushed to tiny pieces like cereal. The butter chicken I ordered was not butter chicken but a korma instead! I will definitely not be ordering from here again. ☹️

This used to be one of my favourite restaurants. Never again will we go here. If I could give no star I would have. Wish I had read the reviews before I went as is exactly what has happened. Over priced, poor service, food was disgusting, waiters rude and not able to understand. Didn’t even know what wine spritzer was!! When I complained apparently no one else does!! Avoid going here as it isn’t what it used to be. Gone down hill and I would waste your money.

Appalling service. Ignored by waiters. Food cold and was sent back. Tried to overcharge our bill by double the actual cost. Staff were rude. Was once our favourite local Indian. But now our worst and never using it again.

Xmas meal booked for 14 , got in there at 7-30 sit down , we had 2 tables , first table got their food , all had to be sent back as really cold , the other table had no food put on table after 2 hours wait , a couple walked out as they had the same issue , so we all got up and walked out too , manager was rude , staff were so rude , never eating in there again , discusting behaviour from manager and staff

Ten years ago I was a regular here and highly rated this place. It had a great reputation in the local area, but since covid it has gone down the pan very rapidly. Used to go about once a month but now maybe twice a year - different waiters every time but same indifferent food and higher prices! And I make better onion bhajis at home rather than the dried offerings at this place.

I've been using the Bombay for a few years now as it's close to where I work. Unfortunately the taste of the food has gone down recently and the last time we had food from there (11/22) it was quite bland and no salt whatsoever. I hope this is only temporary as it used to be fantastic.

The food was watery and flavourless plus the chicken stringy I'm unsure if it was undercooked. Either way I didn't eat it and wasted my money. I won't be ordering again.

Our 4 curries arrived as a pool of liquid at rhe bottom of the plastic bag it arrived in. None of the containers were intact and everything had fallen out.

First time eating here, I had the tandoori salmon which had no flavour, it come with nothing and when I asked for the salad I got some scappy bits of lettuce spread out on a plate, I asked if I could have some sauce to put on my salmon as it had no flavour, the manager came and said he would take it and put some sauce with it what did I want bhuna or masala? I said masala it took him ages then when it came back it was bhuna sauce, I then said I asked for masala he then took my salmon again for ages and it came back with a masala looking sauce on it which also didn't really taste of anything, my partner had the rogan josh which was not hot and had no flavour, all in all this was the worst Indian we've had and we would not recommend to anyone!

The food arrived and both main dishes had leaked out into the bag resulting in half of a dish! The sauce had leaked over everything in the bag!!! Absolutely terrible will not be using just eat again!!

I always went to village India. But bombay is more comfortable relaxed and food just as good if not better. Went tonight 6 of us food service cost and atmosphere amazing 5 stars guys thanks lee

All our food arrived damaged. The sauce has spilt all over the bag and into each other. The rice was not what I ordered!! Phoned the restaurant and they was not interested, told us to “TELL JUST EAT”. Will not be ordering from here again!!

Got super excited seeing The Bombay on ubereats, that wasnt very long lived. The order took forever to come and when it did come it was all cold, the king prawn puree bread was undercooked and extremely doughy, the chicken was tough and the sheek kebab despite being cold was overcooked and tough. Sorry but will be ordering elsewhere now. Shame as this used to be a class Indian takeaway!

Pilau rice stodgy. No flavour to chicken tikka, tough pieces of chicken.

Papadons we’re crushed to but so had crumbs. Hardly any chicken in the main course just all sauce.

Food arrived on time & was nice and hot. Some of the packaging was a little damaged & food had leaked but nothing too badly.

Excellent meal. Just the job for my hungry family just back from holiday. They loved it. Clean plates all round. Thank you.

The food was hot and tasty one of the better Indian restaurants in Grays would recommend them for dine in or takeaway. Would of given them 4 stars but the service was a little slow!

Absolutely awful how they treat people won’t be going anywhere near this place again

If I could give this zero stars I would! This place is certainly NOT child friendly! A friend went with his disabled daughter. Yes her chair takes up some room but the restaurant was EMPTY and they’ve NEVER EVER been turned away from anywhere before! But not only did The Bombay turn them away they couldn’t give them an excuse as to why and were rude too! Absolutely disgusting service!

We just had a meal from this restaurant and the food was tasteless, boiled like food. It's not the 1st time we order from this restaurant but it's clear that it has changed. It looks like the management has changed as well, not only the cook. Very dissapointed.

I spoke to the manger regarding my daughter's tradatinal hindu ceromony have party approxometely 70 guest but I was told he is not interested instead of saying we cannot do it and say sorry he can not take any booking. So disappointing.

Food ok average , service wasn't great , place was mostly empty all but a few tables and despite this service was very slow for the record Incase that sort of thing is a deal breaker for anyone . I would visit again in the right situation but it wouldn't be my first choice .

Over 40 years of eating in indian restaurants (my favourite cuisine) and this experience started badly and got worse. Cold onion bajee served as a starter when we ordered it as a side dish was reluctantly changed by the grumpiest manager you could ever imagine! He then spent the rest of the meal angrily striding past our table and staring at my son and I. Oh and overcooked dry chicken dish to follow. Definitely won't be returning!

Waited an hour to be asked for our drinks order, at least half an hour after the drinks were given out to be given the menu for the food, for one of our guests to CHOKE on a bone. The owner told her “it’s just a bone” and snapped it and walked away. He was extremely rude. Then there was another bone found in another dinner. The waiter couldn’t apologise enough though. It’s a shame that the owner had to be so rude about it. If you’re planning on an Indian, pay slightly more and go up the road a tiny bit to the village indiya

Rude manager. We waited 1 hour 10 minutes for our food to turn up but decided to leave along with 2 other groups of unsatisfied customers. There was only 3 waiters who couldn't even keep up with drink orders.

Food was really nice, the restaurant was very quiet so the service was good.

Really rude manager, I’m 36 weeks pregnant and he wouldn’t let me use the toilet because of COVID. Hmm, I guess COVID doesn’t apply to paying customers?

The manager in this restaurant is so rude no customer service we waited a long to be served two guest who ordered after us got they starter before us and when the food arrived it was terrible when we mentioned the food not being up to standard the manager wasn't interested and told us to pay the money he then walked off and we were left being ignored for 15 minutes when we pay at the counter the manager shouted at me and my wife he then locked the front door thinking we was going to leave without paying felt so embarrassed avoid this restaurant

Waited nearly an hour before been served 31 December 2021 They seem to be more interested in takeaways When we eventually got our meals they were not the best I Left most of my meal as it was very chewy When complained the rude person said it is duck Basically take it or leave it Will never eat there again

I was very impressed with the vegan options that were available. Delicious. I’d definitely recommend.

Excellent service and great food

Food great until main dishes arrived husband found large shards of what appeared to be glass in keema naan when we complained told it was bits of clay from tandoori oven got offered another which we refused no refund offered. If this had been a childs meal and digested could have had serious consequences 😫.

I’ve been here a lot and the food is fine, standard Indiana/ Bangladeshi take away food. No frills. Toilets moderate, not great. The thing that lets this place down is the grumpy owner. I visited last week and made a very small order and he begrudgingly put it through. It has made me feel like now going to Village India which is close by.

Waited1 hour 45 minutes for the main meal but was very good when it came. Service needs improving

Best Indian I have had for ages, portions were very good & the naan bread was fantastic.Overall I would recommend you take a visit.

Take away. Shish Kebab. Main. Plus sides etc Kebab/ Salty dry overcooked and not pleasant. The sides bland and uninspiring. Just dreadful. Have frequented many times over the years. Just returned and last meal, eating in as a couple. Was good. So back we come. Service good (Hassan). Boss/Tony not there and maybe chef had day off. But not cheap. You decide

My order was incorrect I was missing an item and when I contacted the restaurant they said can I collect the missing item I explained that I ordered delivery and it was there responsibly to rectify it after a lot of deliberation they took my number and said they would be in contact but no call back and 10 mins later the missing item was delivered but I must say the quality and taste of the food was not as good as before I guess a different chef

Arrived exactly on time. The best korma in town and will certainly order in the future.
