Regular here. Always a great meal.

What a find. First time eating here and got to say wow. Portion size was amazing. The mixed starter for two people was delicious, proper homemade kebabs pakora and bhaji plus chicken and lamb. A meal for four people was reasonable, priced with drinks. Will definitely visit again.

Absolutely no customer service felt like I wasn't wanted

Just finished eating a delivery after trying the Bombay Balti under new ownership. They have a very good food hygiene rating and we ordered lamb Saag, vegetable curry and vegetable rice. It was really easy to order online and the delivery arrived 20 minutes later. It was really delicious and we will be ordering again. Well done!

Absolutamente increíble. El restaurante estaba ocupado a las 7 pm un miércoles. Buena señal. Pedimos una variedad de platos del menú principal. (También hay un especial temprano si quieres una alternativa más barata) Todo fue una sensación de sabor. Ahora confía en mí cuando digo que soy muy particular con la comida, ya que cocino todo desde cero en casa, incluidos los platos indios. Los sabores y las texturas estaban todos presentes. La mejor comida india que hemos comido en mucho tiempo. También el servicio era de primera categoría. El chef creó un plato extra de ajo para mi marido, que le encantó (aunque un poco caliente 😆). Sin duda recomendable.

The food was between bad and terrible. I had a mixed grill and every piece of meat was really dry and tasteless. You must make an effort to get the meat that dry. Others mentioned their food being tasteless, which is kind of surprising as Indian food is usually tastefull and spicey. One of the group members spent the night in the bathroom reliving the food again. As you might have guessed... I do not recommend this place.

Burned my face off with a madras here the other night. It’s my first proper curry in the UK for about five years, and I couldn’t have picked a better place to get back into it. The portions are decent and the prices are good. Beer is available. The staff are very friendly and accommodating too. Definitely recommended.

Food was horrible, they claim to be an Indian restaurant but it’s not. We ordered aloo chaat, but we got puri sabzi. For Raita we got plain yoghurt, in place of chicken biryani we got prawn pieces in chicken biryani. And then the staff was very rude and aggressive.

This is the best place in town for Indian food!! I'm amazed at the rating but know they are all old reviews from before it changed hands. This is my favourite style of food and we have tried everywhere over the years, we now have Bombay Balti every Friday without fail and have for months. We've never had a bad meal, my Mrs likes to stick to tikka masala whereas I like to sample the menu, I haven't found one yet that I didn't like. Each meal is bursting with flavour and the portion sizes are great, we get 2 meals out of a main and side each. This is for takeaway but have had a sit down meal with them a good few times, they do an excellent job of making you feel comfortable while tending to your needs, the food and service is second to none! Massive thank you to Taj (hope I have spelt this right) and the rest of the team, keep up the good work

Following my review below from 9 months ago, my wife, daughter and I came here to celebrate her graduation and 4 years in Lancaster. As per my previous review, a superb experince with wonderful friendly service. My wife ordered a veggie Biryani and all of the food was spot on. A fantastic memory to finish off our Lancaster experience - highly recommended. My daughter and I had a fantastic meal here. Superb quality and ample portions (so big that we would barely finish - and that was us sharing a mushroom pilau rice and a garlic naan). I had a chicken pathia and it was spot on, easily one of the nicest I have had in decades. The service was quick and the bill was small - what more could you ask for? We will definitely be back.

Best indian restaurant in Lancaster hands down. Lots of choice, friendly service and reasonable prices.

This is the first time I've been to the Bombay Balti, and it was excellent, highly recommended. There's plenty of space, and the food is excellent. Well worth a visit. S

I order a lamb vindaloo delivered from here almost every week and I have never been disappointed. Always mega tasty, fast delivery and absolutely lovely delivery drivers. I love it so much that we recently took my Dad here for his birthday dinner, and they couldn't have been more wonderful - whole family thoroughly enjoyed their food, and the entire team were warm, helpful, and friendly. Our waiter was also an absolute hoot! Adore this place to eat in or for takeaway.

Absolutely fantastic! From start to finish. We went this evening to celebrate my wife’s birthday. My daughter and son joined us and we arrived at 5.30pm. The staff greeted us with genuinely happy and welcoming hospitality. Started with a pickle tray and poppadoms fab-u-lus!!! My son who usually won’t try Indian food, (not keen on spice) decided he fancied the lamb chop starter. He loved it. We all had starters and three of us chose the traditional onion bhaji which were absolutely delicious 🤤, best I have had. Then came the mains, My daughter and I had the chicken tikka masala, my wife had Korma and again my son decided to have the half roast chicken with a side of Korma sauce. The meals were beautifully cooked piping hot and the presentation was amazing. We had the usual sides of naan, rice and I had chips 😳🙄. In my defence, it was a special treat and I have lost 6Stone since October 😇. All lovely. This was all very, very good. However, the best bit for me was the service and lovely atmosphere these lovely people were working double hard to get right. Not only was this my wife’s birthday celebration but unknown to the staff we were celebrating because my wife had come to the end of two years of treatment for breast cancer. Tonight the staff of this restaurant helped us make memories that we will keep for years to come. Thank you to all of them for making us feel so special. Everything I have said is a true reflection of our evening and I have left this review out of love and thanks for a truly wonderful evening. Dhonyobad! ❤️

Three of us ate here whilst visiting Lancaster. All the staff are welcoming, friendly & provide good service. We ordered drinks & poppadoms whilst deciding from the extensive & interesting menu. We all had starters & main courses. My vegetable pakoras were particularly delicious, so light & delicate. We all enjoyed our mains very much but the portions were huge; I could only eat just over half of mine & my husband & nephew, who both have excellent appetites, were unable to eat all theirs. If visiting Lancaster again ,which we probably will as my nephew is hoping to relocate here, we'd definitely eat at Bombay Balti again.

This place is amazing, just had a meal here, the food was fantastic, the staff are so lovely I highly recommend, we'll definitely be back xxx

Great Indian food the mixed starter was lovely and main meals but sorry to say the nan bread was very burnt and really wasn't edible the popudums were hard and burnt too I know this is only a side dish but we spent over 60 pounds for this meal and did try to ring to inform them but unfortunately they never answered bit disappointed was expecting the usual standards .

This place has improved 10 fold. It was never bad, but tonight’s food was a different level. Best Indian I’ve had in a long time. Full of flavour, generous portion. We’re from out of town but after tonight I’ll definitely be switching from our local Indian to this one! 10/10

We ordered a take out from here, one of the dishes arrived with very little meat in it, called them to ask to replace it and the manager was so defensive and rude and wouldn’t listen Avoid like the plague

There I said it , best curry in lancaster, trust me I’ve had a few not just here but in the surrounding area and nothing compares to this place. I’ve tried it a couple of times , once drunk and once sober(last night) and both times I couldn’t fault the experience. greeted very nicely at the door and during the stay nothing was too much trouble for the staff, all were happy to have a chat and give recommendations based on preferences. Massive portions which we all struggled to finish. Do yourself a favour next time you’re in Lancaster give it a go, you won’t be disappointed!

Been here a few times now and ordered take away a few times as well. Food is always lovely, arrives quickly, hot & fresh. Reasonably priced and the staff are nice and attentive. Fully recommend

Ordered today . Decent enough but the food was poor .The curries ( lamb rogan Josh & Dupiaza) were too oily with a splash of small bits of lamb swimming amongst the accompanying sauce viz, cost cutting . The taste of the curry itself was mild and lacked potency and depth . It was rather bland and unexciting and hence totally forgettable. The onion Bhaji starter was extremely oily with artificial colouring, ie, gross . The lamb samosas were surprisingly tasty but again too oily - which is atrocious in the context of today’s uk with its discerning and health conscious , dining public . These sort of eateries need to evolve but many like this one are ostensibly still stuck in the past . It’s lazy and obtuse. Synopsis : I wouldn’t recommend the establishment and I would alas not return .

This was our first visit after being recommended by friends and we weren't disappointed. The restaurant was extremely clean, lovely decor, floors were also clean, no food debris 😀 The staff were extremely friendly, chatty, clean looking, and worked as a team, helping each other bring food out. The portions were generous, yummy on the eyes, and our plates came out hot!!! That's an extra bonus in my book. We were table checked more than once, but we were more than happy with everything. When visiting again this is our go to place. The toilet was also extremely clean, hand soap etc was full.

I recently visited Bombay Balti along with my friends. Fair to say it was the worst dining experience of my life. We waited for a hour and a half for our order to be prepared. On being asked regarding the delay, one of the senior staff members replied rather rudely as if he was standing in his dad’s backyard. If I had to choose between standing at gunpoint or visiting the restaurant again, I will definitely choose the former.

Had a lovely meal here, three of us had starters mains and nan bread, all very good, nice ambience, the staff were very good, all helpful and pleasant, would recommend and will return.

Went here not having booked. Had couple of hours before our train. Helpful to start. Got us a table and drinks and ordered quite quick. Drinks and starters arrived quickly but then no main. We had to ask for the bill for starters and drinks so we could go for the train so no mains were had. 2 hours we were there. Starters were good. Service not so good.

Always amazing!!! Great quality food and great service, whether it's eaten in the restaurant or delivered. By far my favorite restaurant in Lancaster!! 10/10 would recommend!

The Bombay Balti, 16 China Street. Lancaster LA1 1EX Tel: 01524 844550 Date of visit: 29th October 2023 Following a good write up in a local newspaper recently, regarding this award-winning restaurant in the centre of Lancaster, I just had to go and see for myself. The Last time I visited this establishment was way back in May 1994! When it was known by the name of The Curry Queen. It was very different then. It is now decked out with bright modern lighting, and fret worked panels, with freezes depicting scenes from India. Spacious, clean and comfortable. Seating for around 60/70 people with a comfortable waiting area near the bar whilst you wait for your table or for the busy take-out service! It is licenced and it takes Card payment! I arrived at this place just after 2.00pm expecting it to be open after looking through the information posted on Trip Advisor. So, I guessed that it was a typo error and decided to while away a couple of hours in the vibrant city of Lancaster, there is plenty going on here to keep you amused especially a couple of coffees at the Cirillo Lounge and watch the world go by. And as I guessed, they just haven’t had chance to sort out the web page, but I am assured by the front of house manager Taj, that it is in hand, so for the time being I would advise you ring up for an up-to-date time information. I was shown to my table by Chaitra, a student working her way through university and earning a few bob to help, but she was very proficient at waiting table. Service here was very slick, and although it was early doors, everyone seemed to know just what was expected of them! I chose from the extensive menu, Popadom’s with a fine pickle tray. Followed by my usual benchmark fare, sheesh kebabs. Piping hot and bursting with flavour and a very tasty yogurt sauce and fresh salad to go with them. I asked Chaitra what she would recommend as a starter to which she pointed out that the chefs’ specials were all very good, so I chose a Three chilli, Chicken Srilanka, which to my mind one of the tastiest Coconut based curries You will find for quite some distance! Accompanied by an excellent full flavoured soft and fluffy Pilau rice and a fresh Peshwari naan, if I was going to be picky, I would request that the chef puts a little more of the sweet sticky filling into it! A pint of Cobra Lager completed the show. Friendly knowledgeable staff with prices being in line with almost every other Indian restaurant. just under £35.00 Parking a slight problem as there was nothing close to the restaurant, but hey, the walk was good. I’m going to give this place 9/10 well worth a visit.

Haven't been here for just over a year. Last time, it was lovely, so we thought we'd give it another try. The staff were very friendly and some of them looked quite new but were very attentive. It wasn't too busy as we went on a Thursday night, we ordered off the early bird menu, which was very reasonably priced for the portions that we got. The food was very nice and piping hot. The service was very good, although a little hasty, but that was okay. All in all, it was a very good experience and we will certainly be back.

Visiting Lancaster for a specific purchase and also to meet up with a nephew living & working there. Suggested before we travelled that we should dine out one evening at nephew's choice of Indian Restaurant. He came good when he took us to the Bombay Balti...ambience was good, service was great with all credit to 'Jahnavi', who took care of us, providing superb advice and recommendations where needed. Started with some poppadoms and the 'pickle tray' and progressed to the main course which was my excellent Chicken Madras. N.B. There is a spicy dip on the pickle tray that is "to die for" and should be bottled & sold to all good curry lovers. Could not fault the restaurant at all and glad to give it a positive review for others to try.

Tried the lamb chops to start, very good mix of spice and seasoned properly give them blast. Went big for the main bombay chicken, mushroom rice with a dhal mopping everything up with a chapatti and washing it down with a cold cobra. The service was really good and made to feel very welcome - will certainly visit again next time I'm in town

Me and my wife Went here for an early anniversary meal, from the moment we stepped inside we felt very welcomed and very relaxed, the service was excellent and the food was outstanding, all piping hot and everything was delicious, we will definitely be going back soon

Without doubt the worst indian takeaway I ever had. New to area and thought I'd give it go last night. Was up most of night with stomach issues. Rice was bland and no taste of coconut despite ordering coconut rice. Butter chicken and lamb rogan josh were tasteless. Definitely not one I'll return to. Doesn't even deserve the one star

We went to Bombay Balti for tea before the theatre on Sunday. We booked for 5.30 and were pleasantly surprised that there was an ‘early bird’ menu as well (£13.95 for two courses between 5 and 7pm). There was such a nice range on there that we all went for it. We were served by a nice lad who remembered what each of us had ordered and was attentive without being intrusive. Our food was lovely – freshly cooked and tasty. The main courses included either rice or naan and were generous portions. They also do takeaway and several orders went out whilst we were there, so obviously others are as impressed as we were - we will be back!

I have used Bombay Balti for longer than I care to remember. Like all restaurants it goes through good and bad times. Tonight I ordered my favourite. King Prawn Puree , Chicken Shashlik with madras sauce and Peshawar naan . Absolutely fantastic. Best take away from anywhere in ages. Thanks.

Had a lovely meal from here about 6 weeks ago, so thought we would order a takeaway last night, as they were promoting that it was 20% off. First thing we noticed was that prices have gone up, like lots of places. When we got the meal, it looked unappetising, two onion bhaji on some lettuce that was brown and slimy-looking (menu price £4.50!), a watery vegetable curry that had a handful of frozen mixed veg in, poppadom that was crushed into a thousand pieces. Maybe 20% off means they rehash all the leftovers from the day before, which is understandable in the current financial climate, but neither of us are feeling particularly great today and my husband has realised how lucky he is to have access to a toilet at work. Very disappointing and don't think we will get food here again. On a positive note, the Brinjal was nice.

Had a great meal, and the staff were really friendly and professional. I would definitely recommend Bombay Balti.

Booked my 50th birthday celebration here. 40 of us were treated to a great banquet style meal. The main courses were great with a selection of 4 curries but it was the starter plates that blew us all away with their quality, variety and quantity. Management were great in the run up to get everything finalised. Staff worked hard to keep us fed. A great way to celebrate, highly recommended.

I was in the Sun Hotel on Saturday evening having a few beers and I thought I will give this Indian a go. I ordered my food on my phone and I paid for it, I ordered Chicken Tikka Dopiaza with Pilau rice to take home. It was £12.20 it was tremendous, I will be going again. I looked in the Restaurant and it looked busy which you would expect on a Saturday night. Anyone going would be best too book a table in advance.

Favourite place to eat in Lancaster!! Amazing curries full of flavour, good quality meat and an array of fresh vegetables. The poppadom dips are unrivaled, and are a must get. Customer service is always very friendly too; I've been regularly going for years, never had a bad experience.

My friends and I were staying at Thurnham Hall and Naz was so attentive and helpful when I rang up to order takeaway before our time away. My family always have a Bombay Balti when visiting on holiday and my guests said it was the best Indian they had have - thank you so very much (and also the delivery was exactly on time and the driver was so delightful and courteous) It was the perfect start to our holiday. We decided at the last minute to go out for food but as it was valentines day many places were full. This place wasn't (which isn't usually a good sign) but the food really was very good tonight, the saag paneer was especially delicious. But also they had put rose petals on the tables and when we left we were presented with a rose and box of chocolates each. It was a shame less people hadn't made it there destination valentines meal.

Friendly, welcoming service, wide selection of dishes on menu. Tasty, quality food, well cooked and served. Docked a star for atmosphere because it was a quiet, Tuesday early evening, not many people in.

Delayed delivery by 40 mins. And putting loads of oil, food colour and spices in food does not make it an Indian cuisine. Almost same gravy base for everything, just contents vary. And prawn biriyani is an extra oily red Chilli powered version of prawn fried rice. Use frozen stale meat products. Not recommended.

Amazing food, huge portions. Not very spicy. And the delivery was in time. Although they should change the description of vegetable biryani online. It says it is served with onions and eggs but it actually comes with a whole lot of vegetables and no eggs which is just perfect!!. Will definitely order again.🙂

Worst curry Iv had. Curry was so watery and the rice was over cooked. Onion bhajis tasted like cheap microwave ones and the naan was undercooked! Use need a new chef food was awful 🤮

Everything tasted fresh cooked. Good flavours. Suitable for authentic Indian (choose appropriately) and British Indian food. Highly rate the Sag Paneer, Kala Chana, Chicken tikka and Lamb chop. Mango Lassi great but too sweet. Service at tentative. Waited 30 mins for food but it was worth it as clearly all fresh. Did not try the vast other range which I could see on panther tables. Looked delicious. Many happy tables

Food was ok, have been three or four times before, and from memory it used to be better !

Unfortunately my other half was unhappy with the ready made chicken produce they use here. Her Tarka Dal was very disappointing. I didn't think my Madras was so bad but considering her experience then I'll have to just give it 3 stars. The staff are polite but disorganized and haven't the knowledge to give advice. For instance, I wanted two poppadoms to come with my main meal and instead they brought 6 with onions and chutney! I simply didn't ask for that. I think on our next visit to Lancaster we'll definitely give this place a wide birth. Please follow me if you enjoy my reviews 👍🏻

First time eating here. As uni students we have tried very takeaway however this has been the best so far! We had Chicken Tikka Masala and Chicken Tikka Rogan Josh. Both were incredible. Full of flavour and piping hot. Would definitely recommend. Will be back soon!

This is one of the best Indian restaurants I’ve ever eaten at. And I eat A LOT of Indian food. Can not recommend this place highly enough.

Honestly, it is the worst Indian food restaurant I have ever been to. I have been to many in my life and I am of Indian origin, so I say this knowingly. The waiter was quite inexperienced, but without a doubt the worst thing was how long it took to bring the food: an hour for 2 dishes...Horrible! And there were only two more tables. And that's not all. We ordered a plate of "Butter chicken masala", that is, one of the best known dishes in Indian cuisine. Well, those were pieces of dried, pre-cooked marinated chicken breast submerged in a yellow soup of pure clarified butter (or Ghee) without any spices and with a very sweet flavor. We asked the manager why this dish was not red-orange with traditional masala spices and she replied that they made it that way. It is an insult that they say that, and there will even be people who believe it... in short, a lack of respect for a magnificent Indian dish. Anyone can see how it is made on YouTube and it had nothing to do with what they served us. The other dish we ordered was a lamb "Rogan Josh", which consisted of pieces of that but chewy meat, with fat or cartilage immersed in a fried tomato sauce and some spices. Both dishes were semi-cold, and it took an hour. I do not recommend it to anyone, and I regret not having read the opinions of others who came before me. A terrible experience.

Sinceramente es el peor restaurante de comida hindú al que he ido nunca. He ido a muchos en mi vida y soy de origen hindú, así que lo digo con conocimiento. El camarero era bastante inexperto, pero sin duda lo peor fue lo que tardaron en traer la comida: una hora para 2 platos...¡Horrible! y eso que tan solo había dos mesas más. Y ahí no acaba la cosa. Pedimos un plato de "Butter chicken masala", es decir, un plato de los más conocidos en la gastronomía hindú. Pues aquello eran unos trozos de pechuga de pollo marinado resecos y pre-cocinados sumergidos en una sopa amarilla de pura mantequilla clarificada (o Ghee) sin ninguna especie y de sabor muy dulce. Le preguntamos a la encargada que por qué esta plato no era rojo-anaranjado con las especias tradicionales de masala y nos contestó que ellos lo hacían así. Es un insulto que digan eso, y hasta habrá gente que se lo crea...en fin una falta de respeto a un magnífico plato hindú. Cualquiera puede ver en YouTube cómo se elabora y nada tenía que ver con lo que nos sirvieron. El otro plato que pedimos era un "Rogan Josh" de cordero, que consistía en trozos de esa carne pero correosa, con grasa o cartílagos sumergidos en una salsa de tomate frita y algunas especias. Ambos platos semi-fríos, y eso que tardaron una hora. No se lo recomiendo a nadie, y me arrepiento de no haber leído antes las opiniones de otros que fueron antes que yo. Una pésima experiencia.

Ordered take away at 17.20. Order confirmed as due for delivery at 18.05. At 18.25, I rang to see what was happening. I was told it was out for delivery. No apology. 5 minutes later I get confirmation the food is ready and will be out for delivery soon. At 18.45, I called again. I called her out for lying and I told her I would like to know for sure what was happening. As she tried to contact the driver, he arrived. He was lovely and apologetic as he was the only driver on duty this evening. If the person answering the phone would have told me this earlier I could have gone and collected the food. No apology, no explanation, no choice given to expedite the food getting on my plate. Well hangry! The food was OK, but not brilliant. It's not the first time I've been messed about or the food hasn't been top notch. I'll be looking elsewhere for Indian take away in future.

I would not recommend this place for anyone. The customer service was the worst. Told the receptionist to give us a table but was not even acknowledged nor greeted. We were standing and waiting by the reception area for so long to be seated or given a table but nobody helped, and yet there were a lot of empty tables. We just went to the nearest table from the reception area without anyone assisting us so that we could at least get a menu after waiting for a very long time. Unfortunately, after sitting near the reception area for at least half an hour, while looking at other waiters giving menus and food to the table next to us, we werent even given any menu and not even a single waiter bothered to at least tell us to wait or hand over something for us to order. So in total, we waited over an hour and ended up not getting anything at all. This would be the last place that one must eat from. Would not even give this place a single star and not worth visiting.

Early bird deal is great value for money. Quality of food and service was great. Will enjoy coming back some time.

Excellent honest Indian food. Smart decor, very friendly staff, large generous portions, well spiced , good quality meat. Highly recommended

Starters were lovely.main course tasteless.very disappointed.

We ordered vegetarian take away from Bombay Balti and I wouldn't really recommend it for vegetarians. Chapatis were not baked properly at all and were as thick as Nans and were made out of white flour instead of wheat flour. Tarka dal was really bland. We ordered vegetable fried rice, but we only got plain fried rice with just onions (we couldn't go back to ask as we were already far from the restaurant) I do not know about non-veg though.

Superb Indian cuisine, friendly and attentive staff, great sense of fun. Cannot rate these highly enough.
