Worst experience ever !! I went to the restaurant in the afternoon and first impression i got was ignorance ( as if they were not happy i was there ) the waitress didn't seem to know the menu nor could recommened anything, however i went with butter chicken and 2 naan ( btw it was 1 naan sliced into 4 pieces ).. the staff sat at a table behind me and i just had to raise my hand time and again asking for service. No water was served neither asked with my meal.It all seemed rushed or the staff was uninterested, probably underpaid to even care. I will never go here againnnnn....!!! There are far better options and with reasonable price in and around holborn. I will never visit this restaurant again.

Easy to miss from the outside. Seating is downstairs. Lovely decor of flower arrangements and wallpaper is of Bollywood actors/stars. Nice size tables. Happy hour. Good food which can be spicy so do inform the wait staff if you prefer it mild. Nice ambiance.

Been in London 2 years and this is the worst we've ever been treated at a restaurant. The waiter got our order wrong a couple times and then argued with us with attitude when we asked for it to be rectified. Terrible reflection on the business. They also tried to charge us for additional drinks they served us but never asked for. When this was happening the same waiter was arguing with another table. Food was great! but was so expensive even for London and the place was empty. Avoid this place for now until they figure some things out because it put a whole damper on the evening and made everyone feel super awkward when they receive attitude from you waiter.

The outside seating area of the restaurant is worth a visit in the summers especially. Nothing like it. It's like in countryside yet in the city. A lunch is the best time to visit. If you want to spend a time away from the usual noice clutter and require your own space, checkout their outside seating area. The food is of great taste, just a tad bit slow service. One of the few Indian restaurant which caters food according to Jain dietary requirement.

The food was really good. I devoured the szechuan fried rice, gobi manchurian, palak paneer. The naans were a bit too hard (probably because they became cold as we were waiting for the palak paneer as there was a muck-up in our order - more below). The food was very highly priced for the portions we received but then again, it is central London. I loved the entrance, very different and that's what prompted me to try out this place. It leads to an underground bar/restaurant style setting which I quite liked. I think it would probably appeal more to a younger crowd. Food arrived fairly quickly. Our first waiter ( the person who showed us in was great), however it all went downhill when another waiter decided to serve us. First, he took a wrong order. We asked for palak paneer and he decided to bring pani puri instead (we were even pointing out the dishes on the menu). This ofcourse meant our naan went cold by the time we received the palak paneer. We then asked for the dessert menu and he hesitated, almost as if he couldn't be bothered and he stated three options that the restaurant had. I insisted on the menu because how can we make a choice without looking at the ingredients or knowing the prices? He brought one menu between the three of us. It turned out that there were about 6-7 dessert options. At the end of our meal, he brought a bill including both the palak paneer and pani puri. We were looking in his direction when he realised he had made an error so he re-printed the bill. 5 minutes after bringing the re-printed bill, he brings a card machine and we inform him we are still waiting on our other friend to make the payment. He smirks and walks away. We are then presented the bill with a service charge which we did not want to pay because we were very disappointed with the service. I had a word with our previous waiter informing him of our experience and that we would be back but service needs to be improved. He apologises and informs me that the waiter has been doing long hours. As we are walking out, the waiter that served us stops us and says we haven't paid service charge. I inform him we do not want to pay it as we were not happy with the service. He then says we must pay it otherwise he will have to pay it from his pocket. I told him we are under no obligation if we are not happy with the service and we will not pay it. He then says we should have informed him before he brought the bill as he would need to re-print the bill without the service charge and he did not have the password for that. By now, I was completely irritated and I told him that was not my problem. I would have returned to this place because of the good food, but until they improve on the service, I will be taking my business elsewhere. If the waiters act as though they are doing the customers a favour by serving them, then that will be this restaurant's downfall.

It has a grand entrance on Kingsway which is as quirky as it is spectacular. All glitz and flashing lights above a staircase. But it all literally goes downhill from there. The restaurant in a dark basement lacking all natural light feels more like a canteen. A rope cordoned off half the room from an area where a large presumably pre-booked party were taking turns at a buffet table. The menu bizarrely starts with desserts before listing mainly Indian staples but strangely a few Chinese dishes such as Sichuan prawns. For such a prosaic menu and environment the prices were pretty steep including £20 or thereabouts for quite a few dishes without accompaniments and nearly £30 for a thali. Even a fairly bland chicken curry came in at £14 so I decided I might get better value including it within a £19.99 three course menu. Potato and lentil patties six in number formed a generous starter; the chicken curry featured a large bowl of rice and some chunky pieces of chicken in a mild sauce; I was given no choice of dessert just a bowl of rather stale fruit salad with a dollop of ice cream. I accompanied all of this with a bottle of Rekorderlig cider which at £7 was more expensive than in any other restaurant I’ve ever been to, including many more prestigious venues than this.

We came across this Korean restaurant in the Holborn area just as our stomachs started growling after a full day of sightseeing. Accessed by a staircase at street level, the restaurant occupied the basement of the building above. Our initial impressions were good, helped no doubt by the slightly dim lighting which offered a touch of anticipation. Alas, the food did not quite meet up with our lofty expectations. Don't get me wrong - it was quite tasty, and Korean food is usually deceptively filling. Between the four of us, we had several stews, and hot plates of chicken and beef, all of which came with an accompaniment of unpolished rice (a nice healthier touch). Although reasonably satisfying, the food wasn't going too much to write home about. Service was average at best, and prices were a little on the high side for the size of the portions, but then, restaurant prices in London are on the high side in general.

I used to come to this place a very long time ago when I lived in London. It seems almost as popular as it ever was. I’m not surprised as as Hare & Tortoise offers good value and consistent quality. It’s wonderful to know that after all these years I can still get a curry laksa or Singapore rice noodles dish just as delicious as I remember.
