The best Thai restaurant in the UK. I almost visit there every month when I was in Reading. Even I am living in Germany now I still can’t remember those delicious food, and dreaming to come back enjoying it again. Highly recommend green curry and short ribs, as well as stuff chicken, fried rice, tonyung soup, pad Thai, Thai style milk tea, and a lot of typical thai style food like spring rings Omg so many memories, I missed bolon thai

We have loved and trusted the food from Bolan and eaten there for many years, as well as ordering take-outs. So it's disappointing to see the restaurant was only taking cash recently. This usually tends to suggest something is not quite right with the business. And now we find out they are no longer accepting orders on Deliveroo, and doing collection only. End of an era of great food AND great service?

I wish I could give zero stars . The only think who was edible was the beer . This food don't have anything in common with thai cuisine ( taste like chinese) . After taking few bites from that food I feel I ate 20 chocolates in hour and I feel I have sugar in all my body . Staff service was very ok but food was very disappointment

A terrific ‘end of holiday’ dinner for four. Excellent and plentiful food and really good friendly and relaxed service. Definitely recommended and look forward to returning.

Lunch menu is only £12 (excluding service charge) for a main with a desert or starter! I got the chicken green curry and gai satay and both tasted good and authentic!

For the price I don't think the place really cuts it. One issue was the amount of dried red chilli flakes I had in my dish; it said three chilli spicy, so you'd expect it to be hot, (and I like hot hence choosing it), however there is a point at the quantity of red chilli flakes overwhelms the dish and all the other flavours are lost, (and this was the case).

It is a nice restaurant and delightful atmosphere. The service was really good.

The food was very good like the original in Thailand. I tell them please make me so spisy and they make it for me. Love it!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Hight recommend. 🥰🥰🥰✨✨

The food here never disappoints it is lovely and tasty. The service was much quicker that previous visits, but if you are larger person their chairs are small and can be uncomfortable for long periods of time.

Lovely food. Service good. Only complaint is the chairs are v uncomfortable if you are not skinny!! Update. Feb 22. Offered a different chair in the restaurant, much more comfortable!!

The food was OK, nothing special but beware - the "vegetarian" set menu and some of the "vegetarian" meals contain fish sauce. This is not listed on the menu. We were checking ingredients because we are vegan (they did help us find some vegan friendly dishes), but if you were less wary and had just trusted the menu you would end up eating fish sauce.

The food was extremely delicious and well-cooked and served with a smile we'll definitely go there again.

I love Thai food but this is the restaurant I never say no . I can go there anytime and eat . During my pregnancy time there was time when I was only craving for Bolan Thai Creamy Tom yum and mixed plate starter . They have halal chicken option . Still you can ask before ordering . Overall it’s a good Thai restaurant in Reading Town Center with friendly stuffs , good food , easy access and lovely Thai atmosphere

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I highly recommend No.65 on the menu, it was so good I had two plates of it. Food is consistently good and staff are absolutely brilliant. The food comes at a lightning pace. Love it!

1st visit was fantastic😋 2020 2nd visit was amazing 😋2020😋 50th visit 2023😐 51st visit 2023 ☹️ Update from last 2 visits, food taste is still good but the portion is halved especially when you go for lunch and do the upgrade to lamb or fish 5 tiny tough chewy piece for a extra £2.50! Feel robbed for the second time 😔 not sure if I will chose to come here again with so much more options and better value elsewhere but thanks for the good meals from before a real shame!

We have ate here quite a lot over the years. Since the new owners have taken over the food and the cleanliness has gone downhill. Dust everywhere around the ornaments needs a good deep clean. We ordered set menu A. The beef dish was inedible, the beef was very chewy and not nice. The chicken Thai green curry was frozen chicken and not fresh as we have had previously. The duck was the only one the same as before. The starters and the mains were all warm but not hot as previous visits. We are very disappointed as we've been coming here for years.

We had ice coffee, Tom sum salad, pad kra pao with riceIce coffee is too sweet for my liking. Both the salad and the main can be bit more spicy. It was more of tangy and sweet. The portions are large and the service is quick.

Went in yesterday to have lunch with family, the food was superb, tables and cutlery were exceptionally clean. The waiter was friendly and smiled all times while taking order or serving. The music playing on background was so good I saw myself eating and dancing while seated… great place to eat

Had a takeaway, and it was excellent. Brought back some memories of when I lived in Thailand. It's reasonably priced and has that authentic taste you can't get in many places - set amongst a collection of fine Asian restaurants, the arcade is definitely worth a visit 😀

Excellent food, great selection, love the atmosphere here. Easily one of my favourite Restaurants in the UK. Definitely coming back here again whenever I crave Thai cuisine. The drinks were a bit too sweet for my preference though, but then again I'm also not a big fan of sweets.

NOT WORTH THE MONEY. We ordered pineapple fried rice but the rice was very sticker and seems not made with Jasmine rice, come with the pineapple bowl BUT no any pineapple in the rice?! So what is “pineapple fried rice” please? Yellow curry chicken was okay, however the size was so small, many sauce but less chicken even vegetables. Just like soup rather than a main dish. Pad Thai was SUPER TERRIBLE! It taste sweet…the size was small, less noodle. Spring roll are exactly the same when you order in the Chinese take away shop. So if you like to eat spring roll just order in Chinese take away shop don’t order here. Iced Thai coffee too much sugar. Very disappointing with this prices, not worth the money.

This place is posh but it is not kids friendly at all. We got scolded because our boys were playing with the cutleries.The male waiter was very unhappy, he was at the verge of screaming because the kids were making lots of noise at the table. Mind you, they were all confined to the table and was not running around the establishment. Because of this we rushed to finish our meals and quickly leave the place. If you have a kid with ADHD, they will not understand you here. Very unpleasant experience indeed. We felt unwelcomed and this will be our last time coming here.

I am very unhappy today, pineapple rice is my must-order food every time, but today when I was almost finished eating, I found that the pineapple was rotten, which is really incredible, although the waiter reduced the pineapple rice bill, but I'm still very stumped why they use rotten pineapple

The worst service I have ever experienced. From the moment we sat down we were pressured to order, eat, PAY and leave. I asked the waiter about an ingredient as I am allergic to certain types of shellfish and he refused to give me an answer. He literally sighed and looked the other way. He obviously had no idea what ingredients they use and was hideously rude with it. He also made a mistake with our order but insisted on repeatedly saying it was our fault for some reason. The list goes on. All in all not what I would bother paying £160 for, I can make better food at home and don’t have to get berated by some random rude man. 👎👎👎 I won’t be going back.

CREAMY SOUP VS OILY SOUP! Having ordered before at Bolan Thai Reading, I thougt I should give it another go and get some nice Thai food. BUT, it is a while since my last order and it is obvious that either they have changed the Chef or in particular this evening he must be very drunk. The creamy tom yum - as I enjoyed at my last order - has turned into almost a standard tom yum with extra oil. Nice and spicy taste though and plenty of fillings. But, man, why does food has to swim in oil? Yuk! The 'fried rice' with egg is nothing but fried. If it has been on the wok it has been there only for a few seconds, and as seen on the pictures, even steamed riced has been blended in. Not eatable! One should expect that the egg was blended into the rice as scrambled egg, but here we get an egg fried to death in oil. Again Yuk! Something has changed Bolan and I am sure that you know what??? This order was utterly disappointing and considering your high street prices, this is simply not worth the money...

We had a feast fit for kings and queens! The mixed platter, seafood tom yum, pad thai(noodle stir fry), and khow-ob sub pa-rod(Pineapple Fried Rice) were so scrumptious, we nearly forgot to leave room for dessert. And the cherry on top? The service was as friendly and welcoming as a hug from a long-lost friend.

Came here at 4pm there was literally 4 people in the restaurant was looked up and down and told they’re fully booked I can only assume because of my skin tone it’s my birthday and was about to spend a lot but you know I’ll happily spend my money somewhere else’s god bless ❤️

Such a hidden gem of a place. Lovely vibe in this restaurant with great Thai decor. Service is friendly and welcoming. Menu has a great range and the set menu takes some beating. Good choice of drinks with Singa beer on tap. I keep going back and love it.

Food is fantastic and the place is very comfortable, cozy and clean. Price is reasonable and I had already dine in few times.

We had an afternoon meal at Bolan and were lucky to be squeezed in as they were fully booked/reserved tables but we only needed a short meal time and the reception was accommodating. I have holidayed in Thailand and this is as authentic as it gets. The food was delicious and I will be booking a table next time to enjoy the Bolan Thai experience.

I lived in Thailand on and off for 4 years. Love Thai food. This restaurant is the real deal.

This is very nice place, a bit hidden even being on the main walking zone in Reading. I had the duck curry .. was supper deliciouse. Everything is clean and the team is very friendly .. I am coming back soon

Thought the food was ok but nothing worth recommending particularly for the price. Found it a bit strange for one of the staff members son to be running back and forth from the bar to the kitchen barefoot. Don’t think I’d return

Good food and friendly staff. Just moved out of Thailand and it just being in the restaurant made me feel back "home". I'm not Thai, but the feeling of feeling at home was great. I would only request that the original krapaow moo to be added in the menu!

My family and I have been eating there since it opened and both the food and service for lunch or dinner has been excellent. Soft shelled crab is a must for a starter and the mains to many to choose from

Average food, worst customer services! The worst experience in Reading. The kitchen forgot to cook my food after all my friends finished their food. It was not even busy. And the waiter never come and ask. When I asked about it, they trying to theat just a delay in kitchen, it was not forgotten. When manager came simply saying do you still want the food, of course will be another 20min.

They're lunch deal is very good value for money. Overall good quality food and brilliant service. My favourite place in Reading.

Not authentic Thai too sweet !!! I ordered veggitarian food which was just fry up. Menu said 1 platter for 2 people -> ended up paying price for 2 platter. Not worth the price you pay !!! It was loads of pineapple in Thai curry with sweet chilli Gosh!!!

Absolutely knock out dinner! Had red wine pork ribs for starter and sirloin steak (like weeping tiger for mains). Was gorgeous. Highly recommend

We had a terrible experience at this restaurant, would not recommend. We were charged £18 for a dish that was priced at £12. When asked

Turn on the air conditioning! Unbelievably hot humid and overcrowded. Covid heaven in here. Waited 30 minutes between starter and main course, lost all appetite and the left. The smell from the lack of air conditioning and damp carpets was very mouldy and very uncomfortable.

Don’t dine in. We waited for more than an hour for mains to be served. They said Deliveroo orders went in and took precedence over ours. Terrible for dining in.

For what you pay you get the value for what you eat. Set Meal for 2 was thoroughly enjoyable and just the right amount. A good amount of choicw to choose from the drinks list too. The service was friendly and attentive. The food being served at the right temperatures and a good time in between courses. The restaurant itself has a nice atmosphere and great decor. The location is good if you are looking for drinks or desserts afterwards. Would HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

We’re supposed to try their lunch set menu but apparently it’s only at 3pm so we ordered from their usual menu. A lot of choices from appetisers to curries to stir fry to noodles. I had difficulty choosing but one of the staff helped me. •panang chicken curry - level 2/5 spicy kick (definitely good with coconut rice) •prawn pad thai - 5/5 (flavourful) •sticky coconut rice with taro/banana - 4/5 (because we crave more haha) Would definitely back!

Lovely restaurant, authentic atmosphere and taste with friendly stuff. Food was tasty and portion were huge, cannot complain at all. I was asking details about certain dished and could not get answer from lady who served us, this should be improved.

Went for my friends wedding party, food was amazing 10/10, felt very authentic, atmosphere was very quaint, didn't even know this place existed above Soju etc, it needs way more recognition ! My boyfriend and I will certainly be back! And shout out to the staff, very friendly awesome bunch of people, owner is also very sweet! Much love to them all :)

Went to Bolan to celebrate a birthday recently. First visit to the restaurant and staff were friendly and attentive. The food options - vegetarian, meat and fish - are good and we ordered a range of things. The food was freshly prepared and tasted nice, other than Pad Thai and Red Curry which were both quite sweet. Would definitely like to come back, but preferably to less sweet dishes.

We popped in for Sunday lunch and they managed to seat 9 of us. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful only out shone by the amazing food. Served on interesting plates, hot, delicious wonderful food to meet all out tastes. From very spicy to mild. Staff checked on us, replacing drinks etc.

Delicious Thai food is worth a visit

The food is excellent but unfortunately Bolan have increased the prices significantly, that I do not feel it is worth dining at anymore. Its a shame because I used to enjoy dining at Bolan. It is now too expensive for the service provided and the location. To keep customers returning I suggest they look again at the price increases.
