Bob & Berts Dumfries in Dumfries & Galloway

This was very much a last minute thing, we took our grandkids here for a quick lunch. For a kick off, there were dirty plates and empty sauce sachets on the table which were never collected. We ended up moving them ourselves to the side. The table was sticky and the sofa had a tear in it. Staff are not friendly or welcoming and it took ages for the food to come. When it did come, the coffee and kids drinks plus a scone were not brought out. When we realised it wasn't coming (about 10mins later), my daughter in law asked where the drinks were to be told 'i can't carry anymore on my tray'. The kids burgers and chicken was poor to say the least and the coffee is lousy, a gigantic cup of a hot brown substance that resembled coffee, didn't taste of it. The whole place looks disorganised and grubby. Will never be back. If businesses want you spend your money, then surely it's a must to get the basics right, customer service, cleanliness and something nice to eat. I know i wasn't expecting fine dining but this was just terrible.

My husband and I came here for lunch and it was dreadful, the toastie had no flavour with the cheese or the ham, one side was cooked and the other side not. The burger my husband had tasted dreadful no flavour and the soup that came was my toastie was more like a purée than a soup which was incredibly sweet and not nice at all I even tried to add salt to it which didn’t help matters. I was £30 for a tea, coffee, soup and toastie and a burger which I wouldn’t mind paying for if the food was good in flavour. Won’t be back as it was the worst food.

Really liked the decor and menu here. Funky and bright and lots on offer. The prices were reasonable. Although service a bit slow….we sat for about 8 minutes without cutlery, despite asking 3 people and our food getting colder and colder..

We visited several now, and the one in Perth is so much better than this one, it’s dirty, overpriced and the staff aren’t great either in the Dumfries one, NOOOOOOOOO never again!!!

We got here early lunch time and when we came in (2 of us as a couple) we had to walk over to the till to ask if we should just sit down or do we wait. The girl said al give you menu’s then take a seat. She handed me one & we awkwardly stood waiting on the other one. Then she said how many do you want and i said just one more and she said two or one? And i said one anyway we got our menu each and chose a seat. We got a chicken wrap (ceaser one was horrible don’t recommend didnt even have chicken in and goujon one was nice) sweet chilli chips and chicken curry loaded fries (huge could share). We didnt know you got chips with the wrap and were failed to be told our table would be flooded with chips. This cost £40 and there is no prices on menu and half the menu behind tills is not on the one at table. The food took 1 hour 30 mins to arrive, and it was empty the place wasnt busy at all. Anyway when eventually arriving, we tried to put a dent in the mammoth amount of chips on our sticky dirty table. Whilst listening in on the chefs moan that nobody washes the dishes and calling each other ‘fat fx xks’ We got a frappe and latte though and these were top notch cant fault. Would probably go back for a take away coffee. Finally just to add salt to the wound, my boyfriend has got food poison and has been ill for 3 days and has to be seen by a doctor, this is the only thing he has ate, have also seen other people saying the same. So aye, thanks we’ll no be back 👍

Wanted to find a nice place for breakfast whilst in Dumfries. The website looked good but on arrival I found there was no table service, the tables were all sticky wherever I tried and the kitchen staff looked like they didn’t want to be there. Ordered the halloumi, avocado, egg, tomato and spicy relish brioche bun. Took a while to come but when it did it was completely cold - no relish, no tomato. Just a cold egg, avocado and halloumi roll with a few bits of salad. Was really disappointing. I ate what I could then left. Very underwhelming.

My mother and I both ordered a cheese panini. it was dreadful. they served us with barely toasted bread with a slice of cheese slapped in it and called it a meal. no side salad. would not recommend

The worst dining experience I've ever had. The soup and toastie was inedible as the soup was so thick and salty that you couldn't take even a mouthful. The toastie had been made with the cheapest ham and cheese. The burger was served in a soggy bap and the chips were mostly burnt. What was worse is that the kitchen staff looked dishevelled and dirty, and my friend swears that the waitress took a chip from his plate as she was coming out of the kitchen, so putting your fingers in someone's food is so unhygienic and disgusting. The only thing I can say in the staff's defence is that they didn't argue when I asked for a refund. A truly awful experience and place to eat. The company or franchise seriously needs to address these concerns.

Had soup and sanwich. Firstly soup was cold and no taste at all. Sandwich was terrible . Bread must have been the cheapest you can buy. I would call it a simple meal but the cook chef couldn't get it right. Spoiled our day.

Came for lunch on Monday 18th around 1pm and what a total shambles. First your given a seat but the menu is on big boards behind counter in not so big letters so unless you have great eye sight it’s totally useless, yes Costa do it but they have 75% less items on their boards and bigger writing . Asked for a Chicken Goujons wrap for my wife but the one with absolutely no spices or hot sauce , she got three delivered to our table and was then told the one she ate was not spicy 🌶️ rubbish it was extremely spicy 🥵, my friend wanted just a toastie no soup but we had to pay for a soup and toastie both meals came with no salad for the price ridiculous, his toastie cheese had not melted, I got a sausage roll which was not fresh I also got a rock hard scone, . First they had to refund us for the extra Goujons wraps they had charged us for , I took the scone which was so hard I tried banging it on table it didn’t even break , I took it to till lady said all the scones were homemade fresh like all the cakes I can tell you awith 35 years of catering experience behind me u do not make your cakes they are bought in & with the contacts I have it would not take me long to find out which food firm supplies you theses cakes mostly frozen and you just thaw and serve . I showed her how hard the scone was by banging it again on till counter, I even offered her to get a knive and cut it open but she refused. Her exact words were some might be yesterday's as if we don’t sell them we put them on top for next day that’s why we offered to heat it up , then she said oh couldn’t be yesterday we were closed must of been Saturday,s but to make it to me I could have any came free up to £3 how is it free I paid for scone got no refund. £36 we spent it is ridiculous the girls at till don’t know what they are doing and the lad who brought out clean cutlery in front of me a fork had sauce on it he wiped it with his apron then put it in the clean cutlery. You get asked do u milk then I ask for sugar but told it’s over their , same with cutlery. You had five tables in and I was carrying a machine that keeps me alive and no help. No wonder Starbucks across the street was packed out and every other cafe in town centre. People have seen through the glittering windows and saw this place is ridiculous expensive and not using anything local just a fast food restaurant. Worst and I mean worst place ever I,ve been to eat in Dumfries nd that takes some doing. Your stuff don’t care , you probably don’t care but I won’t be back and I will social media this so if any tourists coming to town go somewhere else like eleven,s or the stove, or Mrs Greens . Dumfries deserve better than this.

The food is ok - you get what you pay for but I have been a few times and every time the food has taken forever to come. I usually get a tea with my meal and if I waited to drink it when my meal comes it would be stone cold. I asked a member of staff if I could get some boiling water in the tea pot to top it up because I had been waiting f0r nearly half an hour and she was going to charge me for another tea!!! needless to say i won't be back

Toasty & soup. Soup was foul red hot salty, left ours. Toasty was thin cheap white bread hardly toasted very greasy. A awful lunch will not go back.

We didn’t even get to order our breakfast as this place is so dirty. It was first thing in the morning and wasn’t even busy my husband went to get a highchair and honestly we couldn’t believe how dirty it was so we decided to leave and go elsewhere. It’s a shame as we had heard that the cooked breakfast is really nice but until cleanliness issues are sorted out we won’t be back.

Good food and clean premises. Prices quite high and it’s all self serve, however food is of good quality and staff are friendly.

The americano coffee is really so poor it is almost undrinkable. It tastes oily and musty, a sure sign of old, poor quality beans being used. Had to send it back, and got tea instead. With loads of coffee shops to choose from in Dumfries this place will no longer be top of our list of go-to places for a coffee. The staff seemed to be a bit at sixes and sevens, guess they are fairly new as I haven’t seen them in here before, which is fair enough, but the coffee has gone from previously been poor quality to undrinkable.

Excellent coffee but a disappointing experience overall. There was only one person behind the counter trying to cope with a queue. We were just about to leave when two other staff turned up. My wife finished her lunch before mine arrived. Our table was sticky and the toilet I went in had been marked as having recently been checked but the seat was marked with poo.

amazing quality food had the loaded fries salt and pepper and bobs they were honestly amazing made sure to go back again before the end of my visit defo worth a try if around. good quick service and nice atmosphere

I wasn't impressed with my chicken panini, I had to send it back as there was about 4 pieces of chicken in it. when I received it back after complaining they had just put a few more pieces if chicken in it, was very bland & dry,

Never again! Long wait to order, was not busy! Waffles were hard and dry and difficult to eat, bacon was the saving grace. Daughters meal was just over warm, thankfully 3rd meal was OK. Coffee nothing to write home about, first and last time I will go!

Dropped in for breakfast. The coffee was great and strong (many places we visited made coffee too weak). The food was great - a Scottish breakfast and eggs Benedict. The staff were wonderful, engaging and made the breakfast a great experience.

Amazing little American type diner! Well recommend popping in… they have scrumptious cakes and treats to enjoy with a coffee or for a meal it’s a lovely place to eat and enjoy some time with family and friends! Staff are so friendly … the buffalo Goujon burger was to die for!! Absolutely give this a go, you will not be disappointed!

Wasn't to great however its now new owners so I shall try it again to be fair . I had pancakes and bacon was a huge portion wich wasn't presented well wich puts me and others off food But will try it again as was in once before for a hot dog was good that day so shall try again to be fair

To be fair, we were warned of a 25 minute wait for cooked food though we did only want snacks. Some staff were working harder than others tbh. A lot seemed to be about training as in looking about when serving a drink to see if you can clear / part clear a table next to you. Anyhow, our sausage pork / chorizo rolls were very tasty - though no price list on the counter :( - and coffee was excellent.

Been a few times while waiting an hour and 15 mins for a bus journey I take a few times. Sadly I think this will be the last. Stood at counter waiting 10 mins to be served. Only one person serving and he was busy making drinks. Sat down and my tea came fairly quickly but the food took almost 30 mins to come so by then my tea was stone cold. Granted the food was good butby time it came I had to wolf it down so I could make my bus. Clearly undersraffed

Visited here today(9th July 2023) as it’s one of my favourite Bob & Bert’s but wasn’t great at all. Not a table cleared and all full of cups,plates,food while staff walked about seemingly doing not much at all. Food wasn’t the to die for food it usually is, had a breakfast and the bacon was a bit hard, the beans were a spoonful of mush, not melt in the mouth as it always has been. Then used the toilets which were filthy and clearly haven’t been cleaned and not a bit of toilet paper to be seen. Really disappointing to be honest. Don’t know if I would go back after this

I usually enjoy Bob and Bert’s and we sometimes plan a drive around where one is as there’s none close to me in Motherwell. We visited the Dumfries branch today. We’ve been here before. Arriving after 12 we’ve missed the breakfast rush. 2 bobs fry’s and drinks. Had to ask for a table to be cleared was the bad start. Looks like they are really short on staff. Clean and friendly. Delicious food. Crispy bacon in the burger. Generous portions bathrooms very clean. Disabled access good. High chairs available for infants. Brilliant!

Had lunch here with family recently. Great choice at a good price. Ordered French toast, bacon and syrup. Excellent service and a good size helping, even for my tastes. Grandson had chips and ordered a second helping they were so good. Would definitely come back.
