Boathouse Restaurant in New Forest

This hotel was dissapointing. Location good but parts of hotel were tired. Restaurant area lacked any atmoshere, more like a beachside cafe. Dinner was adequate pub grub ,but breakfasts left a lot to be desired. Continental menue was lacking any cold meat or cheese and on one occasion no crossiants were available, just cereal in cardboard box ! Hot breakfast were charged at £5 extra and not included in room charge.Not good enough for even a 3 star establishment. After checking out and settling the bill, on arrival home I was phoned by hotel stating that I had been mis charged and could I pay some more ! Highly unproffessional. The establishment seemed to be staffed with youngsters who were not up to the job. Wont be using them again

Excellent quality food and server all round, will come again when visiting Hampshire again. We had burgers , fish fingers sandwiches, salads and a fish main course.

Went in for lunch after working in the marina, Good food, Staff were friendly and worked hard. The fish and chips is so big and very well cooked. The prices were resonable and the beer was cold!

Had no reservation and just went in on off chance. New Manager met with a smile and the best experience commenced. What a fantastic experience. Staff friendly, food fantastic, atmosphere great. It was a joy, made more so by the friendly manager who really made it. They were all busy but all very calm 'on the surface, anyway!'. Thank you and all the very best to the New Manager.

Where to begin, the cutlery, which was bought to us, was dirty. The tea was lukewarm and extremely weak. Parts of the breakfast were cold on arrival, and the poached eggs and the rest of the breakfast were swimming in water from the poached eggs, and to top it off they we're rock hard inside where they've been over boiled. Finally, the black pudding was cold and raw. We've quietly watched the Boathouse deteriorate over the years, and this is the final straw, which is a shame because the setting is stunning and so convenient for us because we're just down the road. One star is quite generous, considering how awful the entire experience was.

WHAT HAS HAPPENED HERE!!! I loved this place. I have stayed here for years. This visit ,all change. There is zero security. back door propped open all day and all night for anyone to wander in. No one available for breakfast so I had to go find breakfast some place other. Staff know nothing. They didnt even know there were books in the room with breakfast times and wifi codes etc. Price has gone up so I assumed the place had a facelift but instead the carpets are fraying and it all looks a bit tired. Wont be staying ever again .

Restaurant / Cafe Review. I know this is a hotel as well but I am writing this review based on the location, service and quality. Dirty spoons served with the coffee which took 22 mins to arrive. Tables left dirty around us, while staff chatted. Coffee was nothing more than hot milk. Never again I’m afraid

Where do I start with this.. what can only be described as the most depressing 40 minutes of my life spent at The Boathouse this week. I don't write this review lightly as I'm saddened that this establishment has gone so downhill and I sincerely hope they do something about this, and quick before they have no regular local customers left. I hadn't visited The Boathouse in months due to being horrified by the experience I had in the summer, dirty tables, litter, old damaged furniture shoved in corners that were still in view and that was just on the outside, the staff seem somewhat uninterested, their customer service skills lacked to put it politely and there wasn't really anything good I could say about it. Fast forward 6 months I thought I would try The Boathouse again as I like to support local establishments and lo and behold myself and my friend had yet another awful experience. On arrival I was met with a totally cluttered bar area, receipts everywhere, staff tip jars forcefully placed with tatty paper labels on them and a half eaten cake which looked like it had probably seen better days. On arrival it took several minutes too long for the staff to finally acknowledge that a customer was waiting to be served and I somewhat felt like I was an inconvenience to them. Bar staff were pleasant and we were served our drinks. However, it was hard to ignore the overpowering smell of frying coming from the kitchen area. On looking around I noticed a small specials board attached to a pillar, there was one lonely item listed which was Chilli Con Carne, a lovely meal however at £15.95 I did wince slightly. In my slight disbelief and disappointment about what I was experiencing it was made more apparent by the lack of any atmosphere, we asked what had happened to the usual background music that we were used to and it seemed to shock staff that this had been brought up. Upon having a closer look The Boathouse now just looks tired and somewhat unfortunately dirty, well the air conditioning unit above my head clearly hadn't been touched for a very long time. As mentioned already, staff seem lovely but there seems to be so many of them and some seem to be wondering around aimlessly. Unfortunately, The Boathouse seems to have run itself into the ground and given this has been over a long period of time I'm saddened that this is still the case. Please The Boathouse pull your finger out and get back to the lovely place it used to be. I cannot and will not return until I've heard of change on the grapevine.

Disappointed as it is Such a gem.. views of the marina. Balcony view for overnight stay, staff were hard to find on arriving, radiator wouldn’t turn off all night, so baked. Windows painted shut. Odd glasses in the room and when paying £160 for one night expected more than a cheap basic continental breakfast, but to then be expected to pay extra for simple scrambled eggs … disappointing as is such a lovely place. Big room, stunning views and fantastic base…. So disappointed.

Took my parents here for a lovely lunch - the portions are so generous and the staff are lovely. I had scampi and my mum had the fish and chips and my dad had a chickpea curry which was huge and had rice, salad and a poppodum. I will definitely be back in the summer and see what it's like sitting outside watching the boats.

The larger rooms have walk in showers, so are accessible but can only be reached at present by steep stairs as the lift has been faulty for more than a month, with no indication that it will be repaired soon. The food, provided by Carlos, is very good.

We enjoyed a very good Christmas dinner here with friends. The food was lovely & the staff were very friendly & attentive. Thank you & Well done to all involved.

Went with a friend for a bite to eat at lunch time. Hugely disappointed in the quality of food produced. The vegetable samosas and calamari were clearly frozen from a cash and carry - nothing fresh or homemade about it. Not what we expected in such an establishment. Coffee was average - but wouldn't come here again. Much better places just down the road in Hythe town.

Booked a table, didn't get seated until an hour after the original booking time, took our drinks order then we ended up having to go to the bar to get them ourselves. No-one seemed bothered about bringing us any menu's so we got them ourselves, so fed up in the end we walked out & went elsewhere for food. The place had approximately 4 tables of people in so not busy, waitress was very rude & couldn't really be bothered. Would not bother going back again whilst they are running the place.

We had breakfast, never again. It really was terrible and to have paid for it is salt in the wound. We had to look through the menu standing up at the bar ie to order before you sit down. Then we weren’t allowed to sit at a table as that’s for hotel staff - despite not a single person being in the restaurant. This is the terrible customer experience before the sun standard breakfast arrived. The breakfast was hard poached eggs, slapped onto the toast. The cheapest and smallest eggs in the world. No taste. No care and attention in anything.

The food was superb. I had grilled sea bass on a prawn chowder and baby potatoes (in the chowder), my wife had glazed salmon flats on an Asian stir fry and both were excellent.

We stayed here fir one night wish it had been more. Food excellent 3 courses and wine. Beautiful views across Southampton harbour

After many recent bad experiences with service we very nearly never came back - however on our most recent visit the food was excellent (as always) and the waitresses Emi & Lucy were fantastic. Boathouse - please keep hold of Emi & Lucy!

I rang this hotel and I was very shocked with the response of the management as I was asking information about what to do in the area while I was making a booking at the BoatHouse Hotel in Hythe. I wanted to book a room but I didn't record any interest from the hotel about my needs and what to do in the area! They were not interested... Therefore I decided to stay somewhere else as treating customer fairly was not a priority or important to them!! I don't recommend this place whatsoever and I believe the person I spoken to was very rude.... Not recommended..... and stay away from them.....

Extremely disappointed with this hotel the manager/owner Roshan seedheeyan has no clue on how to run the business and is extremely rude I tried to cancel my booking but was told as I was 30mins in the 48hour cancellation policy this would not be possible but was originally told this wouldn’t be an issue and would be able to have a refund. But after calling back to confirm this I spoke to Mr seedheeyan who refused the refund due to being very quiet and not having many bookings this appeared to be a lie as I later found out they were fully booked. He clearly just wanted to keep the money £160 certainly over priced for what you get. I stayed on my own without my partner in the end out of principal. On arrival you enter through the restaurant which looked messy and smelt of deep fat fryers certainly not what you would expect from the photos I will though admit a lovely location in Hythe. The rooms are very basic and if you pay for bed and breakfast don’t expect a cooked breakfast as this costs you extra which is not mentioned when you book, you do however get a continental breakfast but this isn’t even something to shout about. All in all a very terrible hotel and all due to the shocking management who I’m told is not a people person rather comical for someone in the hotel/restaurant sector. I recommend you stay well clear of this hotel unless overpriced rooms and poor customer service from management is your thing!!

Poor service, missed off one main meal from our order (only 4 of us dined) had to wait to have it cooked. No real service. No one checked in with us. Had to ask for fresh cutlery. Have to order drinks at the bar having sat for 15 minutes waiting to be served as no one told us this on arrival. With the exception of one staff member no one seemed to know what they were doing. Chaotic. Bar was very dirty littered with used glasses and split drinks. Food is ok nothing special nothing particularly great either. Will not be visiting again.

The management at this hotel is terrible. I would never go here again, or recommend to anyone else. Everything is too much trouble.

Having Stayed In This Lovely Location Plenty Of Times Before, We Decided To Book A Room For My Partners Birthday. The Actual Staff Are Friendly And The Rooms Are Great......, But On This Occasion We Had A Problem With The Water In The Bathroom Not Heating Up And For £150 A Night, You Would Expect To Have Hot Water !! All I Can Say Is......The Manager / Owner / Director Really Does Need A Lesson In Customer Service !! Having Complained To The Staff, My Partner Tried Reasoning With The 'Manager' On The Phone (As He Was Not 'On Site'). He Was Very Abrupt & Rude... And He Actually Reduced My Partner To Tears !! Totally Unacceptable In My Eyes . We Will Not Be Returning. Unfortunately, We Have Recommended This Hotel To Many, Many Friends, Family & Even Our Customers, But Now I Will Definitely Be Advising Against Visiting This Hotel. Utterly Disgusted With The Management

Service a bit random but this is the fourth time we've eaten here this year and the food has always been good. The belly pork is particularly delicious.

Stayed overnight for a family funeral and wake which was held at the hotel, can not fault staff or facilities ! They bent over backwards to cater for us especially with circumstances changing last minute ! Buffet was vast and delicious, and we were able to use the seating area in the balcony which overlooked the stunning marina. My uncle and I were staying in a twin room and it was spacious and the bed comfortable, shower and bath available and had a vast balcony. Breakfast in the morning was very good as well. I can’t say thank you enough for everything the staff did and how hard they worked, I will definitely return under happier circumstances

Almost a month ago, we choose The Boathouse for our Christmas meal my sisters and i because it was highly recommended to us. Our experience was disappointing to say the least. We were rushed from the moment we walked through the door by the waitress, due to the kitchen closing at 8.30 pm. The starters were served with the main meals, to save time. Then the food was under-cooked and when we complained we were given the run around for half an hour by the waitress until the manager arrived. The chef agreed the food was not cooked but it took the manager a further hour to haggle about the bill and the mistakes his staff had made. His demeanour in our opinion was rude, he was bad-mannered and he lacked any people skills. A very unpleasant experience.

If you want a beautiful view in summer for day time drinking this is the place!Alas it's the menu that really lets it down, at high prices you don't get the best choices, few things to choose from. I've had the burger which was nice aside from the soggy bottom. The fish from the fish and chips was terribly greasy it made me feel a bit ill. Popped in for breakfast but no fresh orange juice and no soya milk so will give this place a miss. It's not difficult for a place like this to have fresh juice and soya milk to cater for the mass. I so t need to hear excuses like there is no demand for it. The reason there is no demand for it is because you haven't got it. Simple. Staff lovely though :)

I attended the Boathouse after a funeral and 15 of us were at the wake. Upon entering the restaurant (straight from the burial in Beaulieu) we were asked what we wanted to order. We hadn't even had time to get comfortable and look at the menu.I thought this was really insensitive, bearing in mind this was by no ways a celebratory lunch.My sister in law had to make a slight detour from the service to pick up her 4 month old son and was running a few minutes behind us. The owner was asking how long she would be and we explained that she was on her way and he said "I'll wait by the door to hurry things up". I couldn't believe how he was rushing us!! Once the orders were placed, we waited for the food to arrive. My brother in law was last to be served and the owner bought over a risotto for him. He politely told him that he had ordered the salmon. The owner said "No, you ordered the risotto" and put it in front of him! Some people offered to swap meals as we didn't want to make a fuss (again this really wasn't the time and place for a scene). One lady said i'll take the risotto and the owner picked her meal up and plonked it in front of my BIL and said there you go have chicken! We were gobsmacked.The food was mediocre, a few hairs were found and the service was absolutely shocking. From the looks of things the kitchen had to stay open a bit longer than usual, but the table was booked in advance, so they knew we were coming and the meal was costing £250+ so there was absolutely no excuse for the way we were treated. I am so disappointed by how this day ended and will not be returning.

I decided to re-visit this restaurant as I was pretty sure the first time I visited, they were not making the most of their potential. I am so glad I came back. The service was as good as before, if not better! The food was excellent. Really different, tasty with generous portions. I would say the chef was not in the kitchen on my first visit. This time however, it was very obvious he was in charge, which made a huge difference to taste, quality and presentation. I would highly recommend a visit to this restaurant, not only for the food, but the waterfront location and excellent service, both in the bar and the restaurant.

Scallops not cooked properly. Very sick afterwards.Couple I was with chose a,different meal and were reasonably satisfied.

Very enjoyable lunch, service good and our party of four all found something on menu they'd like. We all agreed we would definitely return.

We have had various meals here over the years with these owners and in its previous time as Salt.It now has extra seating and a new colour scheme.It has a super location in Hythe Marina and has a light and airy outlook of the Marina and it's boats.The staff were welcoming and efficient.The kitchen has an open front so you can catch a glimpse of the chefs at work.There are hotel rooms above with good views towards Southampton Water and it's ferry and cruise ship traffic as well as local pleasure boats.It is a quiet location.There is parking outside, free for restaurant users.There are tables and seats outside when the sun shines.There are no other hotel rooms in Hythe and only a few B and BThe menu offers starters, mains and light lunches.We had panini with a choice of chicken / bacon, beef or ha with a side of shinny chips.There was a good serving of meat but was a little dry and extra garnish would have improved the dish.The beef burger was tasty.If you visit also have a walk around the little village , use the pier train and take the ferry across to the port of Southampton and you will have had a good day out

We went on a busy Saturday night and it was full but the service was polite and quick. The full menu is back so made the most of it we had scallops, braised blade of beef and sirloin steak followed by chocolate and walnut brownie with caramel ice cream and apple and berry crumble. Going back soon.
