I have called into this cafe on a regular basis over the last couple of months. This was mainly whilst waking through the nature reserve. It is in an ideal spot to take a break for a cup/mug of tea and a snack or meal. The food is varied with main meals, breakfasts and scones/cakes etc. (the home made gluten free lemon meringue is excellent). Tony, Sandy and staff are very obliging and nothing is too much trouble. Lots of local people pop into the cafe and the history of the Rylands is depicted on the walls which is often a focus for friendly conversations. Runners, cyclists, walking groups all frequent the cafe and on busy occasions a short wait may be necessary, but it is well worth a visit whilst in the area.

Great atmosphere and friendly faces of the cafe staff make this a must-visit place. The food is all freshly cooked and usually to your own liking. The idyllic setting on the side of the river Trent at Beeston also add to the attraction of the cafe. A friendly face and good food are all served on a daily basis. The service is good with everything being freshly cooked to order and they are all good value.

I live in Beeston and had heard a lot about this place but had never been in. It is great. A very friendly atmosphere, good food, good prices. Tony greets everyone like old friends. The cafe is full of local history, having pictures of residents through the ages (and stories from Tony about who they are and what they did/do). Going here makes you feel connected to the local community and part of the many groups (cyclists, runners, families) that are frequent visitors. It's our new favourite weekend breakfast spot.

Just read the reviews from others and cannot believe its the same place! The service was awful and I thought if this place was situated anywhere else - they wouldn't have any customers! Popped in on my lunch hour - waited 15 minutes to get served - ordered the most basic thing on the menu which was a bagel and a cheese cob - which took over 40 minutes - had to inquire about it as I had to get back to work and the bloke in the kitchen nearly snapped my head off saying he had just had loads of orders -which is fine but most places give you the heads up if there are long waiting times - its not as though we ordered cooked food. The cheese cob was barely edible - grated cheese without spread on a packet roll - and the attitude ruined our lunch. I would never eat here again - the pub next door was lovely but unfortunately, didn't do food until 5 pm. Usually, when you are unhappy with the service - they will always retort that you should have complained at the time - but on this occasion - the owner was so aggressive I didnt feel as though I could. Very poor.

Don’t go there if there is a queue, very slow and you hear the same story five times over, then if you don’t show interest you get a rude response from the man behind the counter. Now then the food was quite nasty, dry bread, cheap fillings and do you ever change the oil in your fryer. The cakes were a bit dry too and nothing special, cash and carry material. Sandi & Tony - congratulations on serving the very best of "Belly Buster' English breakfast for the last ten years!! Readers, this cafe is unique as are Sandi (the best traditional English Cook in the world, ney Universe) and Tony the 'front man' and if your not happy when you go in, you will be when you come out and we haven't got to the food yet; breakfast, lunches, puddings just how you Mum used to cook them and very hard to find in this day & age! And another thing, the bill, so easy to understand why it is so popular with friendly happy customers, so much to smile for, my only regret (but in someways perhaps not) is that we do not live nearer!! Sandi, Tony, thank you and look forward to the next ten years, kind regards, John.

Boathouse cafe lies amongst one of the iconic eateries in Beeston. It serves up the typical greasy spoon food but with a great twist; good service. Andy is always very welcoming & never fails to make us laugh and smile. The quality of food is pretty much what you'd expect; average with things such as chips & jacket potatoes on offer for vegans. For non-vegans; the menu stretches no more than the average greasy spoon. It would be a great shame if boathouse cafe stopped business, serving up moorers, cyclists, and regular pedestrians. Me & my 16 year old mates were appropriately taken care with; and as always my dietary requirements were addressed with efficiently. Thanks Andy, keep up the hard work. Overall rating 8/10

Me and my girlfriend decided to take a walk along the Trent and we decided to stop at the cafe for a coffee and toasted sandwich, the guy who takes your order gave me our coffees and explained "help yourself to milk and sugar" which is fair enough but as there was only a drop of milk in the bottle I replied " do yo have some more milk" to which he seemed to take some sort of offence and told me to "calm down" ???? I replied I was "completely calm" and laughed although his demeanour was hardly jovial and not the way you talk to a customer. The food is ok for a cafe but the staff look scruffy and ought to wash their clothing. After about an hour of walking we were passing the cafe again and my girlfriend needed the loo so popped back in, after coming out she said the three staff had shouted to her "you could at least say thanks for using our toilet" which she felt completely embarrassed by as it was in front of their customers and completely out of order considering an hour prior we had spent £10 in there. I have visited numerous times in the past whilst cycling but will never revisit. Overall if you are dying of thirst, starving and want to be made to feel guilty of wrong doing this is the place to visit, if not give it a miss.

This cafe is an amazing place. Tony, the man who runs the place is the friendliest person you could ever hope to meet and makes it a great visit for everyone who comes in, and Kesha is also very nice. It has a very happy and connected feel, a lot of the people who come in are obviously well know to the owners and to each other, but you do not feel like an intruder if you only come in occasionally. The prices have to be seen to be believed, when you read the menu you feel like you have gone back in time to the 80's - nowhere else has charged so little since then. Everything you seen coming out of the kitchen looks and smells fantastic and is all freshly cooked to order. They will even do a veggie breakfast if you ask for it. The cakes are fantastic, they have lots to chose from - but don't, just ask for the Caramel Apple Crumble Pie, it really is the best. It is only £2 for a big piece of cake and for an extra 50p you can get ice cream or custard with it. The marina is a nice place to hang around and this cafe makes it an absolute must visit.

All the staff are very friendly, but Tony is the nicest guy you could meet!If you're after good basic food, whether you're passing through on the riverside cycle/walking route to Attenborough Nature Reserve, moored at the marina or just want a coffee while watching the river flow by this is the place to go!

This place is a home from home, even if you have never been in before. All the food is stuff you REALLY want eat, not pretend you like to impress people. The tea is proper "builder's tea", in a nice mug - just like your Dad makes for you, and the chips are Dad style too. Try to visit on a sunny day, the windows are huge and the view is good.

For those walking the stretch of the Trent between Nottingham City and Sawley, the Boathouse Café offers an impossibly welcome rest-stop, in which you can get a cup of tea and some good, hearty food. The owner, the wonderful Tony, is a man who not only cares about his customers, but also cares passionately about his local area, and in particular, the history of the local area. As a result, you can guarantee that you will learn or hear something interesting whilst you are there, either by earwigging a conversation, reading the many articles and labelled photographs that adorn the walls, or even by having a chat with Tony himself.I will be honest and say the standard of the food is not always top-notch, and when they decide to open/close (or rather, stop serving food) is seemingly in the lap of the Gods, but that, when you have been walking all day, or just fancy sitting by the river watching the world go by, is a matter of supreme indifference. This is a great little place that I highly recommend.

Absolute garbage, the food was atrocious and expensive, I will never visit again, cheap teabags, cheap condiments all at a premium price.

Don't take The Boathouse on face value. If you do you will pass it by.A tea and a bun, a cooked breakfast, or any other cafe food won't be the best you have ever had, but it may be the most jolly place you have ever visited. Run by the irrepressable Tony and crew, he will remember who you are and greet you with gusto. He can also be heard offering passers by tea and coffee like a market trader from a stall. It's all good fun and very low cost.Put a smile on your face by just stopping by for a drink. Or admire the walls where loyal customers offer pictures to decorate the place.

Old style cafe in lovely setting next to the River Trent and Beeston Marina. Great for early morning weekend walk followed by egg on toast and coffee. No frills but definitely cheap, cheerful and charming. Say hi to Tony in the cafe who is friendly and engaging and has banter for everyone.

Every time I head home, I stop for a visit, takes me back with the eclectic wall coverings, not sure it can be called art work. Very reasonable down to earth café food, at great prices and what a wonderful location, great walks up and down the river.Staff are always warm and inviting

Visited today when in area and noticed sign saying beeston marina.was drawn in for a light lunch purely on the basis of hearing the man serving (Tony?) chatting to customers.never have I seen someone be so friendly and welcoming and yet must have been baking hot in the warm kitchen.i had a salmon cream cheese cob that came with a side salad and nachos,a huge wedge of carrot cake and a carton of juice.all for around £4 eaten in the sun on the picnic tables over looking the marina.pure bliss!cafe is a fab eclectic display of postcards from all over the world, with bright tablecloths.definately be back, even just to see the man's serving manner n smile again.he brightened my day!

Visited twice in a recent stay in Nottingham, both times for breakfast and both times it was lovely. Good was so fresh and tasty and all of us have said the pancakes were the best thick style pancakes we’ve ever eaten on a meal out. Definitely come here!!
