This place is a real gem. Super location with great western Solent views, very warm welcome, flexibility on eg sandwich filling & very reasonable pricing. What's not to like! Adjacent parking & a very short walk to the Fort Victoria attractions. Several obviously regular locals there when we called. Dogs welcome.

Another lovely visit to the Boathouse. We sat in the garden and a very helpful mature gentleman who works there helped us by moving a table in the garden into the shade for us and our dogs. We had been earlier this summer and had a lovely time there sitting in their garden overlooking the sea, nice people, nice place and a real find.

Visited with another couple on a sunny late afternoon. There were no bar prices on display,I and a mate both had a good hunt around but found no prices....be warned. We took a punt and ordered a couple of local beers and small house wines. We needed a second mortgage to pay and couldn't believe what we'd just been told.It was a cafe after all. So queried the prices because they aren't visible anywhere. That's correct we got, £ 13 for two local weak beers, in a rustic cafe and without any table service. It had to be wrong, £12 for two small house wines served in warm glasses. Drew the line at that & asked for chilled glasses. We got a lot of huffing and puffing, rolling of eyes and loud sigh. Unpleasant service and unfriendly. We went outside with the drinks and sat on a wonky worn out old table. It was obvious very quickly that locals received a very different level of service etc than that of us tourists. It was a rip off but one that we definitely won't repeat. Bring your own chairs / drinks / snacks and save yourself a fortune. The view is free for anyone & everyone to enjoy!

After sunbathing/swimming along the beach for a while we decided to have lunch here on a table overlooking the sea. All food is on the blackboards inside and it was pretty busy for a Monday but didn't have to wait too long and all four lunches were excellent from the ribs to the fish and burgers. Decent drinks election too (bottles beers, ciders and spirits) and all staff were very helpful and friendly. Great spot we would definitely return to!

Ordered 2 salads and a pot of tea for 2. Took the tea to our table and waited an hour for our food. We asked for our money back because we hadn't been served which we got but were still charged £6 for the 2 cups of tea which was all the teapot held. The place was busy but most of the time it was selling ice creams. We had been recommended this place but we will never go again as we then had to find somewhere else .

We were larking about looking for somewhere to stop that didn't charge us for parking the car there (like the Waterfront) when we happened upon this little spot up by the sea. With a log burner nestled in the corner and a conservatory overlooking the sea, there were extensive menus on the wall offering a plethora of things from paninis to hot offerings and is licenced too. Opens out to a gravel beach and has access for the wobblers who can't do the steps to get in & free WiFi for those that can't live without. You can pay on card or cash & we felt very welcome. We had walked past the Boat House several times on our recent trips to the Isle of Wight, and finally went down there this week for the first time.Of course, the location speaks for itself - right on the sea front, either seating on the beach or on raised decking. Often the case with these places is that the location is so good that the food and service aren't the best because people keep coming back for the views anyway. However, this is not the case here. The food was really tasty with generous portions (and they went out of their way to provide something for my son that wasn't on the menu and making it seem like no trouble), so the reason we kept coming back really was the staff. All of the staff we met were so friendly, even on busier days - they took the time to pay a lot of attention to both my son and my mum's dog, so everyone was happy!!!!We were also really impressed that they remembered us... although it was only a couple of days since we had last been in, they must get a lot of passing trade, but they even remembered specific drink orders which were out of the ordinary.A real gem - a lovely friendly family run business that is a real rarity these days.

My husband had a £10 'boathouse burger'. It came with some oven chips from frozen and tasted like a burger van burger. My daughter had a kid's chicken burger - £5.95. It was a bap with a reconstituted 'chicken' burger that would have had no more than 40% chicken meat, probably costing 10p or less to buy. Same sad chips, not a shadow of salad in sight. I had a panini with bacon, brie and mushroom. It was fine. I guess not much could go wrong there. Only less than half of the panini had mushrooms in though.I guess we paid for the location.

This place is famous for its views across the Solent, but only in the summer. In the winter the windows are always steamed up giving you near to no visibility outside. We didn’t eat but the menu looks good and average prices for the area. Drinks were more expensive than the Seaview Hotel just around the corner. +£1 per drink on gin & tonic. It was November on a Friday evening and all tables were reserved. We did sit at one of their best tables for our drink ‘Captain Ted’s Table’ and it was wobbly as hell. Felt like it was going to give way at any time. Come on this is an easy fix.

Nice busy cafe, lots going on with a lot of choice to make your own baguette. Popular with the locals for lunch who fancy an upgrade from a morrisons meal deal.

We have been here many times over the years and looked forward to our visit again this year. What a disappointment. We had a cream tea which consisted of a pot of tea, 2 scones, butter, cream and jam. The jam and cream pots were half the size they used to be and the butter was barely there, adequate enough for one scone but certainly not two. The jug of milk supplied did not have enough milk for one cup of tea and we had to ask for extra. I do not drink tea and asked for my tea to be substituted with coffee, big mistake, it was undrinkable. Went we went to pay we were told 'cash only' and I was lucky to find some cash in the bottom of my bag. This should be made clear when you enter and before you order as a lot of people do not carry cash. Our experience was so different to every other visit we wondered if there were 'new owners' but overheard the owner telling other visitors that she had been there 17 years. Sadly will not be returning.

Remember coming to this pub with my family when I was ten so had to come back 40 odd years later. Disappointed the coffin by the door was gone 😂 but it was a real highlight of our trip. Our dogs were welcomed and fussed over and the food at lunch was amazing, so tasty. Really friendly staff and all the facilities were spotless. Fantastic views over the garden too. A lovely trip down memory lane
